I still makes it a point to go here wheni can even though I've moved. This is one of Eugene's hidden secrets. Family owned and operated for two generations. The owners personally take care of their customers. They have pride in what they do and it has always been very apparent. The service is spectacular. I'm pretty sure they have the same busser that they had 15 years ago. The food is excellent diner style food that is always cooked well. You get your eggs cooked correctly. Everything is always so good. THE PORTIONS! Holy cow. I challenge you to eat a whole order of homemade biscuits and gravy. No but seriously you should order a 1/2 order. Their giant breakfast burrito is a challenge too. The pancakes are so good but you can only eat one. Good honest food that will be enough to fill anyone and still have a to go box. read more

I had high hopes for GJs in Eugene, but unfortunately left very disappointed. The restaurant itself is clean, inviting, and decorated with University of Oregon Ducks memorabilia, creating a fun atmosphere. We were greeted promptly by a tall gentleman, who I believe may have been the manager. He welcomed us, let us choose our own table, and took our drink order right away. Unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ended. After waiting about 15 minutes without anyone coming to take our food order, we finally had to ask the busser to find someone to help us. The restaurant wasn't busy, with only about three other occupied tables. During that time, both the manager/host and our waitress were sitting together at a table on the opposite side of the restaurant. I do want to recognize the busser, who was the one employee consistently hard at work throughout our visit. He was attentive, busy clearing tables, and ultimately the person who made sure we received service. Once our waitress came over, she was friendly and took our order, but we never saw her again for the rest of the meal. There were no check-ins, no drink refills, and no effort to see how everything was. The food was beautifully presented, but unfortunately it lacked flavor and was already slightly cold by the time it reached our table. To top it off, when we paid our bill, no one asked how our meal was or whether everything had been satisfactory. It felt like there was no interest in the overall guest experience. Overall, the service and food did not meet expectations, especially with how quiet the restaurant was. Sadly, this wasn't an experience worth repeating, and we won't be returning. read more

I love a good, classic brunch spot and GJ's Family Restaurant did not disappoint. You can tell this is a local favorite, with business cards for fellow local businesses and friendly staff greeting you as you walk in. The menu had a ton of options for both breakfast and lunch, including a good number of vegetarian options. I got the Denver Omelette and it was good! The omelette was absolutely stuffed with peppers, ham, grilled onions, and cheese and it was glorious. The hashbrowns were also good, but pretty standard. Oh, I also appreciated the variety of hot sauces on the table. Having Tapatío, Cholula, and two types of Tabasco was very welcome. My wife got a pancake, eggs, and bacon. The pancake was incredible--one of the thickest, most fluffy pancakes I've ever laid my eyes on and it was so good. Nicely sweet and buttery. The eggs and bacon were as you'd expect but very tasty. This is a good spot! Very cute and quaint on the inside with friendly staff. If I lived here, it would be my go-to spot to bring friends and family. read more

This is a place where you get a lot of food for your dollar. So if you're going for mass, this is your place? My husband had the breakfast burrito. Or would I would like to call "a meal for five." It's a lot of food, or really a lot of hashbrowns inside. What it could really use is a sauce option, like an enchilada sauce. It's just a bit on the dry side. My father-in-law had the blueberry crêpes, and he practically licked the plate clean. And my mother-in-law had the veggie omelette. She was a little disappointed because she didn't get to the cream cheese until she was in the middle of it. By that time she was full. I will say it had a lot of vegetables! read more

If you are looking for a breakfast spot that doesn't just feed you but actively challenges you to finish your plate, GJ's is the absolute place to be! My wife and I stopped in for our very first visit today, and from the moment we saw the plates coming out of the kitchen, we knew we were in for something special. The energy in the building is great, the staff is incredibly welcoming and attentive, and the food is on a completely different level of "hearty." The Food Breakdown: Chorizo Huevos Rancheros: I decided on the Chorizo Huevos Rancheros, and it was a masterpiece of breakfast engineering. It was loaded with savory, perfectly spiced chorizo and fluffy eggs, all topped with a massive, beautifully sliced avocado that was as fresh as it gets. Now, my tortillas were actually tucked underneath the mountain of food--a little bit of a surprise "buried treasure" situation--but honestly, with how incredible the flavors were, it didn't matter one bit. The hash browns were golden-brown, crispy on the outside, and covered half the plate! Polish Sausage Omelet: My wife went with the Polish Sausage Omelet. It was thick, savory, and packed with high-quality sausage. Like mine, her plate was overflowing with those signature hash browns. It's rare to find a place that hits the mark on both quantity and quality, but GJ's nailed it. The Verdict on Portions: Let's talk about the size of these meals--they are legendary for a reason. I consider myself a pretty big eater with a solid appetite, but I have to admit, I couldn't even finish it all! You are definitely getting your money's worth and then some. We left feeling extremely happy, completely stuffed, and already planning our next trip back. If you're in the area and want a wonderful, thoughtful, and exciting breakfast experience with a staff that treats you right, do yourself a favor and head to GJ's. Just make sure you bring your appetite (and maybe a friend to help you finish those hash browns)! We absolutely loved it and can't wait to return. read more

We Yelped good breakfast places in the Eugene area and GJ's came across highly rated for the prices and type of good ol' American breakfast places we wanted that morning. The menu is great with lots of choices. There is also a lunch menu on the reverse side. This place was super busy and very popular. They only serve breakfast and lunch and close at 2PM. We got seated pretty quickly and the busser who seated us was hustling and never stopped moving the entire time we were there. He brought waters, coffee, our menus, silverware, etc. very quickly. He deserves a raise! Now, the waitstaff...that's another story. It took a looooooong time to take our orders. We waited like 15 minutes before we could order and even then when the tall male waiter came by, he completely ignored us and took the order of people directly across from us that got seated like 3 minutes ago. We couldn't get his attention as he ran off immediately after taking their orders. Dude, at least look around the tables nearby. You might have seen the table of 3 with our menus on the table directly behind you with each of us trying to politely get your attention. Next a lady waitress ran by and literally passed our table to take the orders of a couple that were seated like 30 seconds ago. WTF? Now this lady we managed to grab right as she ran past us and before she started taking the orders of the new table. We ordered from her. They lose stars for this subpar service that could have easily been avoided if they just looked around. Other than yelling at them, I'm not sure how to get them to notice us. Everything else was great. We loved our food. I had the Chicken Fried Steak with gravy, my dining companions had the crepes with a side of hash browns and the other had the Biscuits and Gravy. The portions were huge and the food delicious. I love the style of hash browns they serve up here. They rival Beth's Cafe in Seattle. The white gravy was sublime. Very tasty. Now just get your waiter/waitress service up to par and we might return. read more

I absolutely love their food and love how its a local family business. I remember when their parents were running the place. They are always professional and kind. Prices are great, I love their eggs. If you had a bad experience I suggest you try it one more time. I think GJ's is one of the best places to eat in Eugene, period. read more

Been coming here for literal years, decade even, breakfast is always good here! It can be a family vibe here or a casual date vibe. Service is always friendly and QUICK, but nothing lacks. Pancakes are huge and tasty, biscuits are huge, portions are literally always big and it's a good value here. Very filling, prices are affordable, nothing crazy. It's always full in here but like I said, the service is very quick. From the moment they seat you, they bring you water and whatever else you order, take your order and then your food comes out quickly after. Still my favorite breakfast in Eugene to this day, and it's nostalgic for me. read more

We got crepes and two entrees for $40! $40 for 2 is almost unheard of in 2025 and we had a whole extra plate. The corned beef was delicious. The crepes were even yummier with a cream cheese filling that was not too sweet and not too filling. The California omelette was stuffed with bacon and delicious. The home fries are a little bland and the English muffins did come out burnt. Overall pretty good experience for the price, we will be back. read more

Food was diner quality, service is okay, I would go again. My favorite is chicken fried steak and eggs and corn beef hash . Hash browns get burnt sometimes on the edges. Cinnamon roll is great but not so much on biscuits which were dry but large so I would get it with gravy and I enjoyed the gravy. read more

This is a follow up answer to the owner Monique. I didn't make any personal rude comments about you ( such as calling you entitled) but I apologize for the health report that I read on yelp. It was outdated 2025. The current report gives you 100%. We didn't seat ourselves not seat ourselves. We were seated by a gentleman back in a corner. read more

One of my favorite places in America. God bless you Genievive and Alan and staff. Great food at great prices.

I came to GJ's on a Saturday morning around 11:30. My friend and I were able to be seated right away. Immediately upon arrival we were offered coffee and our server came around frequently to ask if we wanted refills. The food came out pretty quickly. Portions are humungous. Everything was very reasonable priced. The chocolate chip pancake was a must. It was delicious. So fluffy and loads of chocolate chips. I also really enjoyed the croissant sandwich. I liked how much variety the menu had. Definitely more of a greasy heavy brunch spot but very delicious. Come hungry! Employees were friendly. read more

This place is NOT SERVICE DOG friendly !!! They require the dog to be under the table. It's DISGUSTING under the table !! Disabilities don't all show outwardly ! My sister has a 4 lb legit service dog !! The dog shouldn't be allowed to lay in the filth under the table !! We were told that the dog needed to be under the table and not be fed. So she placed the dog on her lap and even placed a shirt over her dog so it wasn't touching any restaurant surface !! That wasn't good enough. We left and WILL NOT be RETURNING!!! Businesses need to educate themselves and their employees better on disabled people and service dog laws !!! read more

I'm just here to say that I LOOOOOVE GJ's. Best in town. Homestyle everything. I eat breakfast here at least 2-3 times a month. I do my birthdays and family birthdays here. I absolutely love GJ's. I love the owners and the environment they have created. The diversity they've hired and how they have kept the same people there forever. I've gone here since I was a little girl and the food is always amazing. And don't get me wrong. Most places it's MOSTLY about food but they got the food part down here. It's ALL good. My fave French toast and chicken fried steak - but on top of all of that. I love that a husband and wife run it and employ people that stay there and they all give great service. I just love this place. It feels like home. OH, and they get the food out hella fast, every time. read more

I had been wanting to re try for awhile my husband kept telling me remember we did not enjoy the food but I had high hopes it would be better, because last time we ate here the food wasn't the greatest this is when mom and dad were running it and now I know kids have taking over which is super cool , I do enjoy supporting small family businesses I like the small diner feel . We went today for breakfast and unfortunately it was the same . My $16 steak was burnt I had to stab down pretty hard to be able to cut and it was dry . Also part of my hash browns were all burnt eggs were ok . My husband chicken fried steak was mushy and his hash browns were not cooked all the way. The gravy was good little bland could use more flavor and sourdough toast was good , the service they were really friendly just was dissatisfied with food for the price . I wanted to say something as you can see how burnt my steak is ,I now wish I would of asked for a refund it was hard to eat. The fact is I could of bought a nice steak for $16. But was hoping to have one cooked for me .Most likely we will Not be back unfortunately. read more

I am a big eater I am 6'1 260 lb. And I tend to get up to high intensity activities for that I expressly love their jumbo burrito but the casual atmosphere and their consistent service there I have left me feeling consistently welcomed and able to just sit with a peaceful breakfast enjoy experience of my meal and then go about my day. There may have been times I questioned my food within reason. But at this point I feel known and my food is taken care of so I love this little place. Thank you for all the lovely breakfast. read more

Be prepared for a HUGE meal with reasonable prices. SO ordered a chorizo burrito, not expecting it to feed 2 people. He didn't particularly care for it as the meat was ground beef and not chorizo. He was greatly disappointed! My meal consisted of a huge biscuit which was dry, sliced tomatoes, large ham slice, and over medium eggs which were cooked to perfection! The service was excellent! Ambiance was quiet. read more

Overall, good. Decent breakfast, lackluster service. Got the bacon omelette, I'll say they do not slack in the bacon and cheese in their omelettes, LOTS of bacon. But, the cheese was completely unmelted.... Bleh. The toast was not even buttered, and the hash browns way over cooked. Will I be back? Yes.... But I hope for a better experience. The ambiance was your typical diner, but slow service, probably just the few people working. Overall, decent. read more

My late parents use to take me here and I can tell you why. After almost 30 years I went back for my husbands birthday breakfast today. He is from San Diego so he wasn't expecting much. I can tell the service from the server from the man filing up coffee was beyond amazing service. And on top of that the food was amazing. I have a friend that works for the Food Network. We talked about Drive In Dive In and Dives and I'm making Guy check this place out. It's beyond amazing! From now on when we are craving anything the size of our face we are coming back here! Now I know why my parents loved it so much even though the left us a few years ago, one thing they agreed on was good food and great service and I absolutely agree. read more

AMAZING!!! We ordered a bunch of food because the place looked so "home cooked family owned and operated" we couldn't decide. We started off with a cinnamon roll, wow it was served hot and delicious with allot of frosting. Evan got the French Toast and it was very good, looked like his mom made it. Side of bacon and scrambled eggs and they were delicious. i ordered the corned beef hash it was beyond good, I couldn't finish it because I also ordered Biscuits and Gravy (half order, thank God). The biscuits were fresh and fluffy and the gravy was full of delicious sausage. Mine cane with a side of toast which was served with preserves and was delicious as well. Everyone there was very helpful and sweet. The place was packed and they handled the crowd with a breeze. Check this spot out if you are near Eugene, Oregon you won't be disappointed. read more

This is seriously one of the best breakfast places in Eugene and beyond!! It's family owned... Gary passed recently which is a known loss. Such a fantastic person!! Judy is the wife and other owner... she's simply amazing and never stops. Their daughter and her husband are always awesome too... the busboys are freaking out of this world!! They've been there as long as I can remember. Classic only open the morning until early afternoon diner... there's always a wait for good reason. People travel from all over to visit.... Portions are HUGE!!!! Be aware.... the biscuits and gravy are huge portions. Consistent amazing tasting food. Family owned and run restaurant so you won't get individual service, the servers who are the owners always seem overwhelmed.
