Wow. This restaurant truly represents the chef's many years of experiences. Chef Ronald created all the recipes himself, and his creativity and love for food shows through his dishes. There's Japanese, Vietnamese, and Chinese influences to just name a few. Everything was fresh and made to order. Excellent customer service. If you don't like something, they will be more than glad to give you something else because they truly care about the happiness of their customers. However, I am glad to say there was not one dish I didn't like.
We had a sashimi roll w/ no rice, and OMG it was like butter. There were five different fish in it and just... it was that damn good. My hubby and I are from Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area, and those cities spoiled us with delicious food. We love food and being adventurous with it.
We had taro fries that was served with a spicy and regular ketchup. They were PERFECTLY crisp, which is hard to do with taro. I'd prefer those over regular French fries any day.
We ordered their scallion pancake and my god it reminded me of the ones I had back home. The pancakes were so light, flaky, and crisp. There were actually LAYERS in the pancake, which means they did it right. I've had some scallion pancakes elsewhere here in Texas and none of them measured up to this restaurant's version. It was so damn good we asked for a 2nd order. No shame!
We also had an avocado kama, and my husband DEVOURED it! The avocado acted like a butter for the crab but better because it added creaminess that butter just can't give. Ugh... I want another.
We also had the Szechuan pork belly with a side of rice. The pork belly with the fresh veggies in a sauce was done right. Now I judge a chef's skill based on the consistency of their sauce, and it was perfect. It wasn't gloopy or oily at all. The sauce was perfectly balanced. The vegetables were still a little crisp. And damn... the way they cook their pork belly is just right. No chewy pieces. The fat from the pork belly was rendered correctly. Definitely get this!
Now... Chef Ronald blessed my husband and I with their pork belly tacos. I completely regret not ordering this first! Holy moly... I haven't had a Chinese BBQ sauce that damn good in a long time. I hadn't paused after my first bite in a long time. I was blown away by this Chinese BBQ sauce. It was a nice balance of sweet and salty. Then he pairs it with pork belly?! I almost wanted to cry at how good that combination was. Not to mention that they make their own steam buns! What?! It was topped with cilantro and some red onion to balance the richness of the meat and sauce. You HAVE to order this! Then get seconds... and thirds if you can!
Chef Ronald truly cares about the quality of his food and the experiences of his customers. You will NOT regret coming here. My husband and I traveled here from San Antonio, and it was well worth the trip. This restaurant reminded me a lot of Los Angeles' boldness and creativity and that is Chef Ronald. Come here if you want excellent food and customer service!
Also, they have dim sum on the weekends; and if I lived closer I'd totally go. They do the actual dim sum carts, which makes my heart swoon. The fact they only do dim sum on weekends is an indication that they make EVERYTHING (yes, even the steam buns) from scratch. Chef Ronald confirmed that notion, and I will definitely make it a point to come for dim sum one weekend.
Definitely come here! You'll love it :) read more
