There's a lot to unpack here, though suffice to say this could be Austin's best kept secret for fire Asian fusion at a killer price... Some of my favorites include the grilled lamp chops, sautéed soft shell crab, lemon pepper wings, stir fried egg noodles, poke bowl, spicy yellowtail sashimi, sushi deluxe, avocado Kama, beef skewers, and brisket pho. The sushi you get for the price is a steal, particularly the sushi lunch specials (A, B, C) which include an 8 piece roll, 5 nigiri's, and a bowl of miso soup for under $20. If that doesn't fill you, the avocado Kama is only $10 a for a baked half avocado filled with shrimp and topped with a mountain of shredded crab in a spicy mayo sauce. Or there's the colorful poke bowl with a medley of seafood and greens and a delicious mango salsa. The sushi deluxe is an artfully crafted variety of sushi and the spicy yellowtail sashimi has nice Thai chili bite to it. If you're in n mood for more "bar munchies" to pair with the game, you can't go wrong with the lamp chops, the skewers, or the wings, and the sautéed soft shell crab is also a rare treat you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else in Austin. Finally, if you just want a big bowl of noodles, the stir fried egg noodles will hit the spot, comes with a healthy serving of prawns, chicken, pork, or beef, or if you want a hearty noodle soup, the chicken or brisket pho is also a winner. Other dishes that seem to be popular include the teriyaki bowl and the pad Thai, and if you have time there is an underrated dim sum menu with 20+ popular items from the old cart dim sum days of Chinatown upstairs. While Street and Chinatown are basically the same establishment, the Street menu does have several distinctive items you won't find on the upstairs menu (and visa versa), and the atmosphere downstairs is much more loungy and casual, which is nice for happy hour with the coworkers, catching the end of a good game while rush hour traffic crawls by, or just enjoying a nice quick meal by yourself. I really love this place. Food is great, sashimi, soup dumplings, even the house salad is delicious. But the service is what really stands out... Ray & his team are so personable and make you feel right at home, their genuine kindness comes through in every interaction. Even though I've moved away from this neighborhood, I make the drive every week because I've never found another spot in Austin with such great service. read more

Nice spot for classic dim sum food! A little pricier than average for what you expect at another dim sum restaurant but everything we ordered tasted good. The spot is tucked away on the side of Mopac but parking is ample and easy to get to. They have reopened after having closed during covid, I think they might be trying to rebrand so access to their website and more details about what they currently offer is a little harder to find. Service was great. Lots of variety on their food and drink menu. Potentially a cool date night spot? My only wish is that they would lower the prices of the dim sum menu. I think this change would attract a higher customer base and I would be more likely to recommend the spot to others. read more

Maybe just don't come for lunch? This place is right next to my office so I thought I'd give it a try. The first thing I noticed upon walking in was the smell. Unfortunately, it resembled old mop water, my first sign to maybe reconsider. But nope, I saw it through and took a seat at the bar. I ordered the chirashi off the lunch menu. It came with a miso soup, which came out about 10 minutes after ordering. This was one of the strangest, worst miso soups I've ever had. It was full of chunky, roughly cut green onions and had zero seaweed. On top of the off-tasting flavor, it was served at room temp. This is when I knew I was in trouble. The chirashi came out. Weirdest presentation of chirashi I have ever seen. To my knowledge, chirashi is always served in a bowl over fresh sushi rice. This place's presentation? A large dish with what appeared to be day old rice smushed down with all shapes and sizes of different cuts of fish on top of it. The fish did not taste fresh and there were super strange garnishes of iced tea-sized lemon wedges sprinkled throughout the plate. Is this supposed to be an aesthetic thing? I'll never know. Altogether, you can tell the food is prepared with no love and by people who have no mastery of sushi. Terrible. (Giving an extra star bc maybe it's just the lunch crew that's this bad...) read more

Just happened to want sushi and remembered seeing this place way across town. Jumped in the car and actually found a good little sushi spot! The great thing about street is that it is adjoined to a Chinese restaurant called China town. The host/server told us if we wanted Chinese food, they could bring that down so you could have Japanese AND Chinese food in one place!! We settled for Japanese only. The vibe and the food were both really good! The sushi was made fresh upon ordering. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes. I was too stuffed to try dessert. We went last weekend. We ordered soup dumplings, some dim sum, pho, and tea. Our food arrived 45 mins after we ordered and the soup dumplings were literally frozen at the center. After an apology it took almost 30 minutes for a correctly cooked set of dumplings to arrive. Loud TVs covering the walls turned this into probably one of the worst dining experiences we've had in the last year. We tried to leave 30 minutes after no food but our waiter said our food would be right out (took another 15 minutes from there). Our tea never even arrived but we were charged for it anyways before pointing it out to our server. read more

This cute little spot is on the bottom of an adjoined Chinese restaurant. I tried it on a whim as it has only been open for a couple months (used to be sports bar...) I was blown away by everything that I had. The fish was fresh and cut perfectly, the sushi rolls were unique and delicious. We tried a bunch of different items and all of them were great. TNT sashimi - So good. Fish was super fresh and the sauce it came with was spicy and amazing. One of the best dishes of the night. Yellowtail sashimi - Melted like butter in my mouth and the sauce it came on top of was delicious.. Westlake roll - I would have never thought to put truffle oil on a sushi roll, but it was great. Not too overpowering at all and went well with everything else in the roll. Not something I've ever had, but I would definitely get it again. I wasn't sure what Street would be about - my brother ate here in July when it first opened, and it sounded more like an Izakaya. However, I decided just to get sushi and was pleasantly surprised with the quality and offerings. I sat at the bar in front of Chef Yasu and was given a pot of green tea to keep which is awesome. I ordered 1 to 2 pieces at a time, and chatted with the chefs about my shiso plant, the greatness of yuzu, and who knows what else. They offered me a shot of whiskey but I politely declined. I ordered every special on the menu - all of the fresh goodies! I like how only one piece comes per order of nigiri or I never would have tried so many delicacies from the ocean. I started wanting to compare the shime aji with saba, but saba was out, so I got shime aji and hamachi belly. They were both fantastic, but the shime aji was extra special! Then I got ika with shiso leaf and madai (Japanese snapper). Both were great, and the madai was delicately flavored by the chef. Next, I got a piece of salmon belly (you can see this fatty fish trend here, right? Brain food!) Next, I got botan ebi with fried head. Who doesn't love hot shrimp brains?! A patron at the other end of the bar asked if I had tried the tacos yet. I said no, and when the chef made his tacos, he made one for me on the house: a wonton wrapper taco with hamachi, avocado, and a zesty sauce. My next order included tako (octopus) and scallop. The scallop was dressed with lime. From the specials, I paired the fluke with the kanpachi. The fluke had yuzu kosho and truffle salt, and the kanpachi was dressed with ponzu and coriander relish (I had to ask, it was not obvious for me what it was). My last order was chu-toro and uni, and it was a great way to finish the meal. Then one of the staff shared a piece of his "Bob Marley" roll with me to try, since it was a popular monthly special. It was salmon, avocado and jalapeno in a green soy wrap, topped with tuna, aji amarillo sauce, and fried shredded sweet potato with a jerk sauce on the side. I would never order this but since it was free and had nothing gross like cream cheese, I took a bite. I never would have expected high quality sushi with so much variety here, and it is walking distance from our spot but I drove because I was coming from somewhere else. To all my fellow Taiwanese-American Yelpers in Austin: There's finally another option in town for Taiwanese food! Think green onion pancakes, beef noodle soup, and 'xiao tsi' street eats. Amazinggg. Don't be fooled by the exterior or menu pricing. It may seem like a Pei Wei at first, but it's not. The pickled cucumbers (they give a dish of 3 pickled veggies complimentary with your meal; apparently $1 for every subsequent order) are perfectly seasoned/marinated. Very refreshing and just like how my mom used to make it. The green onion pancake beef rolls are SO DELICIOUS. Dare I say better than Rice Bowl's?! These might be the best in town. I will be dreaming of these tonight. The beef noodle soup wasn't bad! Perfect meat that was fall-apart tender. Slurpy noodles that seemed handmade. Broth was a tad sweet for my preference. Overall, better than Coco's. Did not try any of their sushi rolls. I personally will probably stick to their Taiwanese menu offerings for now since they were so good. Service was great. Not only did the food make me lose my appetite, but I actually felt awful after eating here. The volcano roll was not fresh at all. The scallops were covered in spicy aoili, which tasted sour and made it almost inedible. The roll itself literally made me feel awful. I couldn't eat it. The karaage was okay, but it tasted like Chick Fil A nuggets rather than karaage. Is this place really Japanese? The hamburg steak was overdone on the outside (very tough to eat) yet didn't taste cooked at all on the inside. The sauce was way too sweet and cooked down far too much. The best thing on the plate was the broccoli, and that was raw. I feel bad because the waitress was so kind, but the food was just way too poorly made for this to be an enjoyable experience. I don't think I have ever given a place such a bad review, but this is the worst food I have eaten in a very long time. Never returning. read more

I agree, it is spectacular with a no nonsense menu of street food and new twists on sushi. I was conservative my first go round and ordered the amazing Texan Cowboy recommended by my lovely server, Cat. This Texas dude is beefy, hot and tasty as well as beautifully presented stuffed with shrimp, avocado, jalapeno, asparagus, topped with seared beef, lemon confetti sauce, coriander relish and crispy garlic. Street is located below Chinatown in the former Musashino space. The menu is fun with a variety of Asian street food offerings. Dim Sum, Beef Chow "Fun" Noodle Soup, Sushi, Pork Belly Sliders, Jellyfish Salad, Grilled Eel skewers, Roast Beef Onion Wrap.. the menu is all over the place in a good way! They did a great job on the remodel which is fresh & modern. The restaurant atmosphere and menu is super approachable and fun. All the employees were upbeat, helpful and engaging during our visit. We started off with a cold Kirin draft and a refreshing glass of Simi Sauvignon Blanc. For food we tried the following: Maguru Green Tea - seared tuna sashimi plated with green tea matcha sauce, macadamia and creamy goat cheese. The fish were perfect cuts and the flavors phenomenal. Ceviche Street Style - yellowtail sashimi mixed with soy, Thai chili pepper and cilantro. I liked the hint of heat. Pork Belly Sliders - tender pork belly sliders in doughy buns. Jellyfish Salad - served chilled, tender pieces of jelly fish and a couple types of veggies. This is a light dish that is great for a lighter appetite. Escolar Skewers - the flavorful skewers of grilled escolar, onion and pepper were very good. Congrats Mr. Cheng on the opening of your new concept! Disclaimer: If you consider places like P.F. Chang's, Panda Express, and Pei Wei to be "Asian Food", then go ahead and bump this up to 4 stars. The theme here is Taiwanese street food. But while street food is supposed to be simple, cheap, and filling, Street achieved just the opposite. Don't get me wrong, the food here are good, especially with their seasoning. It's probably the best all-around Taiwanese street food in town... but only marginally. What you'll get here is food that are marginally better than the close alternatives in town (Coco's, Rice Bowl, etc.) at almost double the price and half the portion. You do the math. But if price is not a constraint for you, i.e. if paying $20 for 6 tiny pieces of sushi is normal for you, then I would recommend this place. Here are the 3 "snacks" we got for $40+ and left still feeling hungry: Roast Beef Onion Pancake ($10) - One tiny roll sliced into two along with taro fries. The rolls are about 1/3 the size of the ones from Rice Bowl Cafe. The taro fries were unique and had a tiny kick of spice with every bite. Berkshire Pork Belly Buns ($7) - If you've never had Asian "buns" before, this could be a delicacy. I mean it's pork belly. Of course it's delicious. Otherwise, there are MUCH better buns out there for cheap. Viet Shaken Beef ($19) - Largest dish out of the three but still considered a "snack". They're essentially bite size steak cubes. The cook on the beef was great (medium rare). Comes with one small bowl of rice. A second bowl will cost you extra. Overall, this place makes no economical sense to us. When a place charges $10 for 3 dumplings, that's a clear red flag to avoid. I have no choice but to put them in the same category as P.F. Chang's. Same business model targeting the same clientele, just with small plates this time. Quite disappointing since the food was actually good, just not worth the price. Not even close. read more

If 4.5 stars was an official Yelp rating - Street would define 4.5 About a third of the items are spectacular. Nothing is bad. Street is Asian street food. A lot of Yakitori, pancakes, Sushi, and general all purpose items from a Japanese menu. On the spectacular side - anything cooked on a skewer. Eel was real eel (not the prepackaged precooked American sushi product). It was pounded flat and grilled great - with quintuple kudos for the yummy skin. The fish balls are addictive and frankly I wouldn't mind getting addicted here. A roast beef and scallion pancake is - surprise surprise - a full blown hot roast beef wrap with the wrap being a Taiwanese pancake. The dish is served with taro fries (a total five star item) and both sriracha sauce and plain old catsup. Never mind your fancy Asian sensibilities. Try dipping the roast beef wrap in the catsup. Food for the gods. Seaweed egg drop soup is first rate. On the solid enough - but that's nice dear list: sushi, dumplings, seaweed salad, spicy edamame. We ate 100% of those items - so nothing wrong on that front. But you won't dream about them six days later. In contrast, you COULD dream about the skewered eel and fish balls. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ I got off the pink train and said goodbye to the penguin. The beautiful blonde in jean shorts is beckoning me to her table at Street! I get closer and closer! She has skewered eel! She has skewered fish balls! Overall: A good addition to Chinatown. I like how they have the lunch specials divvied up into different regions of cuisine. I went with their Hong Kong Box (Roasted Duck with Chinese Sausage) and my friend had their Saigon Box (Beef Cubes with Vegetable Tempura). Both were good, but the Saigon box had more meat in it as there were a lot of bones in the Hong Kong box. We also shared their signature Street roll which was solid. As an almost permanent fixture at Mushashino for early Sunday dinners, I wanted to try Street. I have been for both lunch and dinner, both times I sat in front of chef Jorge, formerly of Morimoto in Hawaii. Lunch was superb. Different types of combination lunches, sushi, and starters. For dinner, I asked the chef to simply feed me. He asked what I enjoyed and gave me a spectacular meal. Arthur, who handled the drinks at Mushashino, is doing fine bar service at Street, and working on a drinks menu as well. When you first walk in, you'll notice how bright and clean everything is, it presents a far more welcoming atmosphere. The staff has learned the menu and service both times was excellent. It is a totally different vibe, in a good way. To me, what sets it apart from Mushashino, is the willingness of the chef to take requests. There was no checking to see if it was OK, it simply happened. Sashimi and rolls were presented artistically. The flavors were clean without any attempt to cover up something. The pork belly sliders, fried pork dumplings were also quite stellar. I look forward to seeing what Ronald will offer with this newest venture, and I'm glad I don't have to travel far for Sunday dinner! read more

Loved everything about this restaurant! The food was phenomenal from the appetizers down to their delicious mints on your way out! We came here to try the "Asian fusion" part of the menu as we love chefs that think outside of the box and create innovative new dishes! We ordered the Ahi Tuna tower and Nacho typical sushi snack. Both were delicious! We also ordered the Szechuan Cold noodles with chicken which were okay. When we asked for hot sauce, we got the spicy mayo and Sri racha. The spicy mayo totally transformed the taste of this dish to amazing! So make sure if you get the Szechuan cold noodles, that you ask for some spicy mayo! We also ordered a volcano roll which we didn't realize had scallops(which we have never had). We were a little hesitant to try scallops, but they were really good! Definitely will be back here ASAP. This is probably the worst lunch I've ever had. A coworker and I both got the chicken teriyaki. The chicken was so dry and seemed like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a couple hours. And it was tough and grainy, like the cheapest day old chicken on sale at Walmart... seriously that bad. Also in giant pieces, not cut at all. The menu said potato croquette came with the chicken teriyaki, but definitely was potato salad, mostly just mayo. My salad had no dressing, the broccoli was not cooked, and the miso was terrible. Really great food, a few things.. Other than the sushi rolls, nothing on the menu really had a description which could be useful i.e. What's in the ahi tower, and what the nachos are. Since some of the dishes are new to people, explanations would really help out. Also the name makes it hard to find on the Internet. It's probably too late to make any adjustments but googling "street Austin" doesn't work and same with putting it into google maps, Yelp, etc. The prices are sort of all over the place. I think the rolls are a bit steep for what they are, and was interested in the shaken beef appetizer- but not for a $19 price tag. Had the Mexicano roll, onion pancakes, ahi tower and cold noodles -- all very good. Would definitely go back. read more
