This is some of the best sushi that I've had in Austin. Its not too far from where I live and I'm so disappointed in myself for barely figuring out it existed. My husband and I had a date night to the movies and I picked this place randomly for dinner before we headed to the theater. Long story short-we didn't have a reservation (I recommend making one before you go bc this place was poppin!) - but they were nice enough to fit us in as long as we ate quickly. I appreciated it bc we already were in a rush and we were able to enjoy a delicious meal.

By far my fav sushi restaurant in Austin. Very small restaurant with maybe 6-10 tables and a sushi bar. Black cod 10/10 : marinated in miso and it is superb. I have to order every time. Japa tai :10/10 aka japanese sea bream Nobu's new style salmon sashimi : 10/10 Salmon toro:10/10 we got this prepared 2 different ways. One seared topped with fresh Wasabi and the 2nd has a ponzu or yuzu sauce on it. Seared scallop 10/10

A new friend suggested we meet at this place for lunch. They had had good lunch options that were not outrageously priced but also you can't substitute anything. I got the sashimi option and asked if I could have salmon instead of tuna roll, but that wasn't an option. I like tuna, but I prefer salmon. The sashimi was tasty and I like they gave you 3 kinds in addition to the tuna roll. The lunch special also came with a crunchy sushi and miso soup. We were seated quickly and because it's located in a mini shopping center, there was ample parking even if you had to walk a bit to get to the restaurant. We did have to flag someone down to take our order even though all the tables weren't full but once we did the food came out quickly. Tomo is definitely a good option if you are in that part of town!

Sweet ambiance for being farther from the central downtown. Nice interior, family-style Japanese food. We ordered an array of appetizers, rolls, and desserts. My friends are regulars and brought me. Notable mentions: spicy edamame, quail egg shooters, cherry blossom, DDD, and ask for the fried baby crabs at the end. What a culinary experience. Loved it! Waiters and waitresses were extremely personable and fun!

Love coming to this place everything is so good. You really can't go wrong, sushi, sashimi, dumplings, even the mochi ice cream. We always order so much, I walk out of there stuffed. Every time I try to pick out something different, and I'm never disappointed! The service is good, but I feel like sometimes they come a by a little more often. I get it though, they're always so busy, and that's for a reason! Not a very huge place, we usually sit at the bar because we're only a party of two, which isn't a problem. If you have a larger party, you shouldn't have too much of an issue.

The food here was great -- I'd give it a solid 4/5. The specialty rolls were definitely the highlight, especially the "Ex-Girlfriend" roll -- so good! We also tried the lychee sake, and it was delicious. We started with the dynamite appetizer, which was just okay, nothing special. The ambiance was really nice too; it was cool to watch the sushi being made right in front of us. The only downside was the service -- it honestly wasn't great. We were barely checked on, and no one ever came by to refill our water. We wanted to order more rolls but had to wait upwards of 10-15minutes before service staff approached us. That's really the main reason I'm knocking off two stars.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. I'm sort of a sushi connoisseur. This place passed the test. Very fresh. Well-made and served quickly. Flavors were good and not overpowering. Fish was nice and fresh. Seems expensive.

Came here for my friends birthday and we sat in the little room in the back and it was spaciest and cute! We decided to go family style with 8 people (which i dont think i'll do again because we got mostly sashimi and nigiri. there wasn't enough to share). We ordered hot sake and it was good! We tried so many different dishes and the ones that stood out to me were the triple D rolls!! So so good!! The peppers were really good as well. Wagyu hot rock was a great experience but i wouldnt recommend with a big group because it does not fill you up! For your bday you can choose a free dessert and they play this funny happy birtjday song super loud in the speakers. Service? Phenomenal! Sushi came out quick, water was always filled, and amazing amazing attitude! We were treated with a smile!

Fantastic reviews had my niece & I try this restaurant for the first time. The reviews did not lie. The food was delicious. We sat at the bar and started with spicy edamame. We shared the black cod, Double D roll, and our waiter recommended the off menu Samurai roll. Finished our meal with mango & strawberry mochi. Didn't care for strawberry, but mango was good. Will definitely be returning here often!

This may be the best "hole in the wall" sushi spot in Austin. Tucked away off Parmer road, Tomodachi is an unassuming but great sushi spot. We tried 5 different nigiri's and could tell the fish was fresh, and it was all very tasty with the accompaniments that came with them. The rolls we had were solid as well. We will definitely be back!

Staff is very friendly and remembers you if you are a regular. We live in the neighborhood so come here often. This is a small mom and pops Japanese place and holds around 40 people. The chef is a former Novi chef. Here are our go-tos for dinner and we love them all. - cherry blossom (I forgot to take a photo) - Dinner tempura - includes shrimp - Black Cod - mt Fuji roll We order these all the time. I adore this place!! The music was great, the staff was so friendly and funny, and the energy was amazing! The menu was one of a kind, lol. I had the Something Wrong roll and tried the Tempura #2 roll. Both were fantastic and I would highly recommend visiting if you have not been yet.

This little sushi spot hits the spot every SINGLE time. We have been to this place many place & every time the service is amazing. The sushi rolls are always made with fresh fish. My husband loves Hamachi Kama which is the neck of the fish and this is one of 2 sushi spots that we have found in Austin that actually has it. Here is what we ordered: 007 sassy Suzy samurai - amazing tangy flavor and it's a secret menu item Hamachi Kama Dynamite spicy Tuna HR We absolutely love this place and will go back over and over again.

It's located inside what I think is a mini golf place (or some kind of entertainment venue haha), and the restaurant itself is hidden behind a bookshelf like a speakeasy. I had never heard of the place before, but I thought the whole concept was SO cool. The omakase itself is incredibly intimate with only a handful of seats, which makes the entire experience feel really personal. Chef and his small team are all so warm and welcoming, and one of my favorite parts was that they actually encourage everyone to get to know each other throughout the meal. It ended up feeling like one big group dinner rather than everyone quietly eating their own meal. My friend and I were even watching the Super Bowl with everyone during our seating, which made the night even more fun! The fish was, of course, phenomenal. Every piece was prepared with so much care and precision, and you could really tell how passionate Chef is about his craft. I'd say the menu falls somewhere in the middle between a super traditional Edomae omakase and a more modern, creative one, which I personally loved. Everything felt incredibly thoughtful without being overly experimental. I also have to give a shoutout to their cocktail program because every drink we had was AMAZING! I don't even think there's a traditional drink menu. Instead, their bartender just asked each of us what kinds of flavors we usually like and created custom cocktails based on our preferences. Every single drink she made for my friends and me was SO good and paired perfectly with the meal. One thing to keep in mind is that each seating is pretty long--we were there for close to three hours! It definitely felt like an experience rather than just dinner, but honestly, the time flew by because everyone was chatting, eating, and having such a great time. It is definitely on the expensive side, but for the quality of the fish, the hospitality, and the overall experience, I thought it was absolutely worth it. One of my favorite little details was that the room is filled with Chef's personal belongings, books, and little collectibles, which makes the space feel so cozy and lived in. He genuinely welcomes guests to ask him about anything in the room, and you can tell he's just such a well-rounded and passionate person. More than anything, this was just such a FUN omakase experience!! If you're looking for something that's intimate, interactive, and a little different from your typical omakase, I can't recommend Toshokan enough!

Once you step inside, the interior immediately transports you to the late‑night streets of Tokyo--moody lighting, intimate vibes, and that cinematic feeling like something special is about to happen. There are 6 seats. My boyfriend and I had such a fun, personal experience. The staff were incredible--warm, engaging, and genuinely excited to guide us through each course. The food itself was delicious, beautifully crafted, and felt customized in a way that made the night feel unique to us. It's the kind of omakase that doesn't take itself too seriously while still delivering seriously good dishes. I also highly recommend the sake and cocktail pairing. The bartender customizes it based on your preferences. I told her my favorite drink is an espresso martini and she made this really fun espresso, strawberry latte concoction. There is also a special house sake with an homage to the owner's cat. I love those personal details. It's always a great time at Toshokan, and I'll definitely be back again. PS it's a great place to celebrate your birthday or special occasion! They broke out a guitar to serenade me lol

The way they presented the sauces made it slightly hard to dip your roll in it, but would still order again. My friends loved the transformer roll. Yuka-tekkan was a let down for me, just not very flavorful. Overall, would definitely come back for some rolls and the happy hour!
