A few friends of mine came out to Corona del Mar to show support for a 5K that a few of us had participated in. After the event and spending some time hanging out in the area, one of my friends suggested Stonefire Grill to go to for lunch. I ordered the BBQ Chicken Breast individual meal (which includes a side salad and two breadsticks) while a majority of the group opted for the Tritip individual meal. I regretted choosing lean and going with the chicken rather than the tritip. My BBQ chicken was juicy but just a bit bland in flavor. It tasted as if the chicken breast was grilled without seasoning and then painted with BBQ sauce afterwards. I tried a piece of the BBQ tritip and it was pretty good - tender and definitely more flavorful than my chicken. My friend said that the Pepper garlic tritip was really good too. For those who enjoy cilantro as much as I do, I would recommend getting the Cartwheel salad. A mixture of fresh greens, sliced radishes, garbanzo beans, olives, string cut beets, and crispy tortilla chips, the salad is tossed with a delicious cilantro vinaigrette. I noticed that there was the Stonefire Mac n' cheese on the menu and had contemplated about succumbing to my weakness. Next time, I'll listen to my fatty instincts and try it out! read more

Been here a few times whenever I'm in the area, great place if you're pretty hungry and not sure of what to eat. Order at the front and find a seat and wait while they cook your order. -Interior A very warm homely feeling when you walk in here, haven't gone at night but I'm sure it's just as pleasant. Booths for parties of all sizes, self-serve fountain drinks, just make sure to pick up utensils when you get your drink. -Food A LOT OF FOOD! You get what you pay for, if you order the salad don't order anything else. The amount of lettuce heads sacrificed to make the salads here must be biblical proportions. Tri-tip here is always good, they cook it to what you want and it's still juicy with every bite. The ribs are lacking in the meat department but that's ribs in general, also finger lickin good. -Service After taking your order from the front you're pretty much on your own until they bring the meal to your table. No salad bars or the sort, just get your drink and wait patiently, they don't take too long. They come back to check up on your meal once in a while but I have yet to find a reason why my meal isn't going well. A great place for friends, family, co-workers, if you're hungry and want to relax with some good cooking. Also for those Yelpers who are in the Armed Forces or with a Police Department, stop by in uniform and they'll knock off 50% of your tab. That's right, FIFTY PERCENT! Which is why I only go here when I'm in uniform ^^V read more

I swear, this place and Cali Fish Grill seem like really nice franchises, I'm not sure if they are or not, but for a franchise business its really good! I came here with my buddy and he ordered us the Stimulus Package (Woooaaahhhh, Stimulus). It came with Salad (GREEN), Garlic Sticks (BREAD), and a FULL-RACK-OF-RIBS ( =O MEAT). I think the cost was like $30 ? I dunno but it was TOTALLY worth it. The food came out and obviously the salad came out first since you know they just gotta throw it in the bowl and stuff. The breadsticks came out really fast too duh. Ribs came out around 10-15 later. The salad was you know, green. It had salad stuff in it. I'm actually not a really big salad person; its all the same to me so whether I get it at place X or Y doesnt matter. It wasnt bad though! I think it was Ceasar salad with croutons. I like croutons. Bread sticks were you know typical bread sticks. They reminded me of Little Ceasar's crazy sticks, but they were pretty good and I realize as I'm typing this that my standard for these two foods are not that high. Well, you cant expect a franchise to bring out Michelin star Salad and Breadsticks right?! The ribs were surprisingly good and tender. The meat came off the bone very easily and the sauce or rub was not overpowering, but flavorful. I really enjoyed this part of the meal and I got really full after the whole thing. The food here is served with like numbers, similar to Cali Fish Grill nearby, and it is brought to your table and they also clean it up for you ( I tip at the counter for all these nice services). Water is self serve, which i always like, but I wish the cups were bigger. Remember; bigger is better! Definitely coming back here to try the other stimulus package with tri tip and pizza! EDIT: Although I mentioned the franchise comments, I have learned that this place is family-owned and independent! Thats a wonderful thing to hear since it leaves room for improvement. It just looks that good that I thought it was a franchise :) read more

I very seriously love this place. It's like a CPK, but fast-food style! You come in and order beforehand, so the bill's out of the way before you even sit down. You know how sometimes when you go to a restaurant, you order the obligatory carbohydrate dish or bowl of vegetation just to round-out your meal? No one expects that shit to taste extremely delicious. Certainly not I. But I would come here over and over just to gorge myself on their side-salad. Or their garlic mashed potatoes. My group decided to order everything vegetarian just to shake things up, and boy did Stonefire Grill deliver on the plant life. Tomato-basil pizza, pesto & mozzarella pasta, everything was great. On top of that, service was awesome and attentive (but then again we were the only group there at the time), and the waiter was hot (but then again he was taken). Anywho, please come here a lot so this place won't go out of business and I can keep getting my fix. :] read more

I don't know how to categorize stonefire grill. Is it a cafe? A restaurant? I don't know but every time I come here, I always have such a bomb meal. One thing I love about stonefire grill is that their menu is really reasonably priced. You can get pasta ranging from $4.99-6.99 and tri tip and ribs for just about $10. Also, they have different portions to choose from. It's great that they have different portions however, even though you order a petite, doesn't mean it's going to be petite. A petite size can definitely feed 2 people easily. Great portions and great prices! With that in mind, you would think the quality of food here would just be sub-par but their bbq and other dishes are very good! From their pizzas, to pastas, nothing has disappointed me yet. My favorite is definitely their south of the border salad. I love their cilantro lime vinaigrette. Watch out during weekends. It gets so packed that it seems like it would take forever to find a table. But thank god they have a to-go section right next door. I ended up just taking my food home instead of waiting for an hour. read more

The only gripe is that there's no trash can in front of the restaurant...I once in a while grab trash from my car and throw it at the trash cans in front of restaurants...but stone fire didn't have any..the only let down of this restaurant. Back to the real review. Their "not so big secret" is their stimulus package. If you're ever in a group here, order the stimulus package. You pretty much get everything; a salad, pizza with 2 toppings, breadsticks and either tri-tip, ribs or chicken. And if you're the one that always settles for caesar salad, and I've sat with people like you, don't get the caesar, get the cartwheel salad. It's much more flavorful and fresh. That's my biggest recommendation. I just don't know why...I normally don't eat salads because I take forever to eat..so inefficient..but it's so good.. Other than that, you just order at the front, take a number and get served. All workers that I've talked with and have been served by have been very helpful and kind. read more

This vendor provided catering to my place of work and the chicken was tough and just as greasy as before. I can only attribute this restaurants existence to simplicity or stupidity in the market place. read more

Plain and Simple. Great bbq salad. The ribs and the macaroni and cheese are to die for. The pizza is alright, my favorite is the bbq chicken pizza. But the mashed potatoes were a real disappointment. It felt like there was no salt or butter or cheese in the mashed potatoes. Overall, great restaurant. Just don't get the mashed potatoes. read more

I do love Stonefire Grill and their South of the Border salad, in petite size, which is definitely two portions, that I will eat by myself. My only warning is holy sh*t this place is busy on Saturday night. Walked in, and the staff was doing some population control by having people hold ordering, since there wasn't any place to seat them. Ended up getting it to go, and even that had a good wait. So don't come in a hurry, but this place has solid, affordable food and it's one our family's go-tos. Not the location we normally come, but it sure is busy. read more

Had lunch here for 7. Staff was REALLY great. Our group had a few orders for the$10 anniversary special, some mac & cheese (GOOD), a couple sandwiches and a salad. I started in on my ribs....stabilized them wth my fork, sliced with the knife, and, hmmmm....maybe I am cutting them the wrong way. Tried the opposite way, no luck. Are they spare ribs? Waiter says no. He took them and brought a fresh serving. These were a little better, at least I could cut them. But....I am used to not needing any utensils for my ribs, and having plenty of meat on them (my favorites: Twin Anchors, Haunted Hamburger, Portillos). I was nit picking with my teeth just to get a small dried out sliver of meat. No fun. Mac & Chee was bomb, as it should be. Any good restaurant should be able to slam dunk a simple dish like this. Everything else was OK. Tri tip was OK. Chicken was OK. Another complaint is the temp of the food. It is delivered to your table kinda warm, not hot. read more

Hittin' SF up for lunch today and just realized I have never yelped them. Shame on me! This place is so underrated, and I think I'd prefer it stay that way. Never in my life have I had better chicken. Their garlic chicken literally brings me to my knees. Not to mention the garlic mashed potatoes...peanut slaw and the bread sticks. Try the lunch special. $5.99 for the chicken lunch, with a choice of a side and bread sticks... Extra garlic on my chicken please!!! WINNING! read more

I'm not going to lie, next to In-n-Out, this is my 2nd favorite chain. 2 Things to be in love with here. - Tri-tip: Honestly when I order here if I don't get Tri-tip I will be a cranky man. This has never been a mistake to order for me. Tender, Juicy, and super great with the BBQ Sauce! - Baby Back Ribs: I'm not normally a fan of being a messy eater, but when it comes to Stonefire's Ribs, I'll give in. Just like the Tri-tip it's Juicy and Tender. Meat comes right off the bone means you've done it right! Any of the packages/party orders are always a good deal, because you get so much of everything! So much meat to go around! read more

Normally, we'd give this place a 5-star review, but this time due to isolating, we ordered through Postmates. I don't know who blundered the order, but it arrived wrong. The meal was supposed to come with mashed potatoes, but they substituted their campfire (chili-style) beans and said it was Postmates' error when we called them. The beans are NOT a family favorite, so they weren't eaten. And Stonefire refused to correct it or refund the difference. We like the restaurant, but we won't order their food delivered again. read more

Had dinner last night and I wasnt happy with the wait! Took over 1/2 an hour just to get our salad then when we got our meat entries it was cold. Not a good night! Our food was served cold.. read more

Have been fans of Stonefire Grill for many years. First time ordering the Mega Feast takeout. Chris C. took the order. He is great, and provided excellent help and service! The Mega Feast was for our family gathering of 13. We "left the cooking to Stonefire!" :) Our menu included 2 chickens--lemon garlic and BBQ; whole pepper garlic tri-tip; ribs; Caesar salad; garlic mashed potatoes; pesto pasta; 24 breadsticks. Was ready for pickup at the scheduled time. Everything was yummilicious! Plenty for all and lots of choices so everyone got to have something they liked. Great value for the money. Being a fan of Stonefire has just increased by leaps and bounds -- 5 * * * * * stars + read more

Hmmm... I don't know what the proper term is for this style of dining, fast casual? I thought this was a sit down waiter/waitress type place, but it's a place your order at the counter and you get a number and help yourself to dining utensils. It's definitely not Carl's Jr., it's a lot more upscale, but not in the snotty sense. Once I figured that out, it was all good. I've heard of this place before and decided to come in because of the $10 meal special. It's sort of a sampler plate with tri tip, baby back ribs, chicken and a side (I had mashed potatoes). Portions aren't great, but passable. Of the three meats, I really liked the tri tip. It was incredibly tender! I've had tri tip elsewhere and it's always been tough. I highly recommend this! The chicken was okay. I've had better for sure. The baby back ribs were about the same as other places. The mashed potatoes were really good. I don't understand the incredible hatred of this place by Joe C, maybe he's just mad he's dead and not working with Kid Rock anymore, but I rather enjoyed my experience here. I have to look over the menu some more and try some of the other offerings. read more

WIsh there was one closer to me in Los Angeles. I recommend getting one of the combos depending on how many people you're with but MUST get their bbq chop salad thing (not sure of the exact name). Their tri-tip and ribs are really good.....as well as their Chicken Tortilla soup. Got their pizza once...nothing spectacular and would rather stuff my stomach with the other stuff. Craving it now. :P read more

I come here pretty often since my apt is 2 mins away from here. It is a perfect place to find good, quality food with a great price. Their salads are all really good but you have to try the ones with the steak pieces. yumm. You can't go wrong with their chicken or tri-tip. Pretty much, all their food is solid. Great for groups. It is pretty spacious big. If you are ever going with a big group, you must go for the group deal they have! Saves a lot of money and the portion is great! Service is quick and I have never had a problem with the server. Overall, I can't say it is AMAZING or that it is my favorite place to go but I am never disappointed when I do. And I always end up coming back. :) read more

This place is really good, with large portions and fair prices. I had their famous tomesto and thought it was delicious. Also had a basket of their breadsticks, which were amazing. You can't stop eating the breadsticks. Place has a large menu with a lot of options and definitely will be coming back to try some more of their food. read more

AWWWWWWWWWWWW... I lowered my review from 4 to 3. Hubby and I got the stimulus package with tri tip. Breakdown: Tri tip: chewy, low grade meat. Don't get the garlic one. The bbq one was better, but you have to dip it in the BBQ sauce that they provide for better flavor. Hubs requested medium rare and it came old cold and medium. We told the server and he said our option was to either reheat or put it on the broiler. He insisted that it would turn out the same. If I'm not mistaken, it's impossible to reheat meat without cooking it more. He came back with it very, very well but we didn't make a fuss over it. ***Tip: order one lever rarer than you normally take your meat. Breadsticks: Not fresh, sitting under a heating lamp, and very very hard. Tough... perhaps the kneaded the dough too much? They gave us 9 instead of 8. Salad: Prechopped. We ordered the garden salad. It came out nicely with cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, and all sorts of lettuce. We ordered the Asian dressing, which was very gingery and tasty. Pizza: Mushroom and Sausage. Pizza came out very very fresh. They were quite generous with the mushrooms, which I liked very much. The sausage seemed underseasoned, I like Costco sausage better. Grilled Corn: Not in package, but I had to order it since I didn't make it to the fair this year. It's definitely grilled, as there are distinct markings. But I think they steam it, and then just mark it. Nothing special. It comes with a small bowl of semi-melted, unsalted butter. You'll need to salt and pepper it up yourself. The corn itself was sweet, I enjoyed it, but not as much as the one at the fair. =) Service was quite friendly, the waitor did say he would come back and check up on our freshly warmed tri tip but did so only after we started packing our leftovers. Next time, I will definitely stick to the pasta... the one with two sauces. It's the bomb. If it weren't for that pasta, I would have given this place 2 stars. read more

Me and my wife got food from there yesterday. It was chicken and pesto pasta. We both got food poisoning later. I don't know if the chicken was bad or pesto pasta had something but we both have food poisoning symptoms . After the hospital, i ll be looking into all my options . Just don't buy chicken and pesto read more

My boyfriend introduced me to this place awhile back, and have loved it ever since. I have realized I have never written a review for them before. This is one of our favorite places to go in Irvine! *And think the Irvine Police agree, as each time we go, there are least a couple (this last time 6) of them eating there as well! My boyfriend LOVES their Garden Salad, and always orders a bigger size then most, if eating by himself. When we go together, the person behinds the counter, even tells us, "you know the medium is enough for 4-5 people". I politely tell them, I know, but, he can eat a Medium by himself! LOL. I do eat a plateful. But, I like something to go with the salad. So, each time we go, we have tried a few different things. Have tried their pizza (my least favorite), the chicken breast (both garlic and BBQ)---sooo tasty! The salmon is good. I only had one time, I had to send it back, as it was under cooked. I have tried their chicken tortilla soup, and is very good too. This last time we tried the "Tomesto" (Tomato and Pesto rigatoni). OMG, this was so gooooood!! We got a small, and it was too much, we took some home (good for left overs, and not dried out next day too). So, if you are in the neighborhood (Irvine..Target shopping Center off Barranca and Culver), stop here, they are better then most casual sit down places (Island, Chili, Mimis). Oh, don't forget their homemade breadsticks!!! OMG!!! read more

This is my favorite place to come when eating with a big group! You order at the front and then have to go find your own tables, so if you're coming with a big group it can be helpful to come at non peak times so you can find enough tables to put together for your group. I come here all the time with my sorority sisters, and we've never had a problem finding tables to fit at least over a dozen of us because we come at early dinner times like six. By the time we're leaving, people are walking around ready to attack for empty tables. It's a really good deal to eat family style and share dishes here! It comes out to be a reallly cheap meal too. The stimulus package is great for the price and can definitely feed four HUNGRY people and probably leave you leftovers given you're not eating with monster eater guys... I just wish they didn't always raise the prices on the stimulus package. But for 23.99, it's still not bad! The tri tip is AMAZING - you can have it either bbq or with garlic butter. Both are deelish! Please choose the tri tip for your meat and you will not be disappointed!! My friends have tried the ribs as well and said they're good but not the best ribs they've ever tasted so stick to the tri tip. The salads, pizzas, and pastas are all yummy yummy yummy as well! I love that the salads always taste fresh. & the pizzas and pastas are really good. I especially love the tomesto pasta which is a mix of the marinara and pesto sauce. The pesto pasta is delicious too but the tomesto is just perfect cus you can't really eat an entire of pesto pasta without being a little overwhelmed. ANDD I don't care that carbs are fattening, you better carb up here!! The breadsticks are some of the best breadsticks I've ever tasted. Ask for a side of ranch to dip in and get ready for some carb heaven!!! read more

AWESOME juicy and super tasty tri tip and chicken! Ribs are very tender as well. Love how they offer other seasoning options (lemon garlic, pepper garlic) besides the traditional mesquite BBQ flavor. You can also order combo plates if you can't decide on one particular meat from the grill. Staff is friendly and food arrives rather quickly. Their garden salad needs some help though...not very appetizing in both appearance and taste. Prices couldn't get any better! Very excited to come back! read more

I don't get all the hoop la about this place. Its really nothing special. Its overpriced and the food is just average. i ordered the pesto chicken sandwich, which was good, but all you get is a sandwich, no sides and that cost about 9 bucks. It also took almost 20 minutes to get our food and we just ordered 2 items?! It may be a good place to go if your with a million kids and want something a notch up from fast food. Otherwise save your money. I will more than likely not be coming back. =( read more

The food is consistently good and fresh. There are loads of options - for eaters of all types and the restaurant is well organized and managed. The manager checked on us several times throughout the meal, despite the busy Friday night dinner service. She had loads of energy and definitely made us feel comfortable. The weekends are really busy, but like I said, they're well organized and managed. So the time goes quickly and their system of seating is very efficient. I liked their salad options and overall restaurant design. But the salads would keep me coming! I'd highly recommend their ABG salad - Arugula, Beet and Gorgonzola. (We subbed in Feta - which I think is better!) Bread basket is a must try as well! Their full order is a HUGE basket, enough for 6 at least! Overall great experience. Just not giving it the full 5 stars because it still feels really commercial, not something I'm dying to try, not extremely supremely fresh, not WOW worthy. read more

A recent addition to our Irvine repertoire, Stonefire Grill has become a fast favorite. The portions are immensely generous, the prices very wallet-friendly, and the casual atmosphere makes for a simple night out. We've dined in and done take-out. There are always leftovers for a second or even third meal, thus making the cost per meal very very low. I also like that they support local schools and activities, with nights such as "Woodbridge Choir" and donating a % of all sales from the evening to the organization. Personal Fave: their Greek Salad... mmm mmm good! read more

mmm i love this place!! I came here with 3 other people when I was visiting and we got the family deal half chicken and half ribs. It came with salad and breadsticks. We ordered a side of garlic mashed potatoes on the side and that was my favorite!!!! I LOVE garlic and the garlic mashed potatoes were a definite hit! Its pretty cheap here as well. It was like only a little bit over 10 bucks a person and the food was great. I wish we had one in San jose! =[ read more

I had this Stonefire cater my wedding in October 2010, so obviously I love the food and won't comment much on that. If you're even considering having them cater, set up a tasting. I had never tried the pesto pasta before the tasting and it ended up being my favorite thing on the menu. They really helped me cater for as cheap as possible and we ended up with a TON of food! The value is phenomenal. I bought to-go boxes ahead of time, so my friends and fam got to enjoy the leftovers while I honeymooned. The server was fantastic and very friendly. Apparently there were some set up issues (the location we chose for food was not ideal) and he helped my girls move everything around. The food was hot and tasted fresh. Every single person complimented the food. We chose lemon garlic chicken, BBQ tri tip, mashed taters, pesto pasta, tons of breadsticks, caesar and garden salads. We definitely had a great experience with Stonefire catering. read more

We stopped by here with family after my nephew's graduation from UCI. The wait time was pretty long, but understandable since there were a lot of people eating out following the graduation. This was my first time eating at the restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. I'm a big BBQ guy so I love trying different BBQ/meat joints. Out of all the things I tried, their tri tip was one of the best I've ever had! It was just simply cooked to perfection. Soft, moist, juicy, and not over or undercooked. I can't wait to try this place again and get the same dish again, it was that good... read more

Everything about this place is so good. It has the feel of sit-down restaurant, but you order at the front and get the food delivered to your table. Which means you don't need to worry about splitting up the checks! Food is delicious! I love their tri-tip (SO tender and juicy), salads, breadsticks, list goes on and on. I'd highly recommend it! read more

I must say that my experience started off a little shaky... but this review is based on the taste of my food and the amazing level of service I received. I ordered my favorite - a bowl of Tomesto! However, I quickly noticed that my pasta was a bit undercooked and firm. I brought it back to the counter and before I could make a request, the manager came over to ask what the concern was. The staff was apologetic, helpful and accommodating. The quality of my food was even tested to ensure perfection. My friend and I were checked on throughout our meal and provided anything we needed without making a single request. This staff is attentive, friendly, ACCOMODATING and efficient. Dining area, counter tops, drink station and restrooms were clean; all checks in all blocks for me! I made the drive all the way from San Diego and would definitely do it again. read more

I was actually really surprised by this restaurant. This just opened in my neighborhood and I thought we would give it a try. It is a casual order at the cash register restaurant, but has plenty of seating and friendly staff. The service is mostly okay, self serve for drinks etc. but they bring your food to the table. The food was freshly prepared and very good. Not gourmet, but the value for the price is unbeatable!! If you have a family this is the perfect place to go!! We ordered the special meal and got a whole roasted chicken, a pizza, and a large chopped garden salad with bread sticks for $30. It was way more than enough food to feed a whole family. There was just two of us, and we had enough left overs to make lunch for 2 people for 2 days ! read more

Went out to Stonefire on a Wednesday nite. I liked Rachelle B.'s description of it as a fancy Pat & Oscar's. Here's what I liked: -good variety of salads; we ordered the South of the Border and the Cartwheel; very tasty and can be substituted for the herbivores out there. the Border had right amt of avocado and the Cartwheel had a great cilantro vinaigrette. -the veggie pizza has a good crust, but not too soft -breadsticks a plenty!!! and they're delicious, if not addictive -good portions and a meal for a party of 5 went just under $50 Why it didn't get 5 stars: -too many sun-dried tomatoes on the pizza, bit tangy for my taste -staff didn't provide direction on where to get plates & silverware; fortunately, our server was very considerate and got us plates. -the small salads are very huge. be prepared to eat/share a lot of it, otherwise there are to-go containers. -for a group of 5, tables were a bit cramped, as were the booths. Good family-style food for groups. Nice variety of salads for the veggie fans, Italian fare, and meat for the carnivores. Our friend loves the options for catering. Great upscale chain for food all would enjoy, would come back. read more

Well, I called in the next day to complain. I was going to request that I get the missing toppings from yesterday added onto my new salad order and maybe like a cup of soup for my troubles but he ended up comping me to be fair. Their bbq chopped salad is pretty damn good. I got it with the poblano ranch dressing instead of the regular ranch and also go a bit of bbq sauce to give it that extra zing. Perfect. Stonefire Grill's food is great. Customer Service is good. Will obviously be back. read more

My co-workers and I frequently go here for lunch. The tri-tip is usually the draw for us. The decor creates a nice atmosphere that compliments the menu: good food and not stuffy. If you're familiar with "Pat & Oscars", I think of it as a "fancy Pat & Oscars". read more

The salads are DELICIOUS... and so are the pastas. Although the food is delicious, my last visit was disappointing because of the 45 minute wait (even if i had also called in my order). When I did get my order, the pasta was not the al dente it should've been. I learned that the pasta was ready... but the waiter was waiting on the salad! It should've been the other way around. Anyway, I forgive them. This has never happened before that I'm aware of, and the staff are usually very attentive. I'll still go back for the delicious salads! read more
