Wow, so disappointed after reading all the great reviews. Ordered lunch for myself and two co-workers. They always trust me to find us great new spots but this time I failed them. Ordered 3 orders of tri-tip med rare and when it arrived it was cold, and the plastic knives they send with the order couldn't even cut the meat. We are only 5 miles away yet the meat was cold. The worst part was that we had to eat caveman style with our fingers because the meat was so tough. Couldn't even chew it and swallow. You would have thought the Chef would have noticed when he cut it but I guess cuz it was a to go order they shipped it as is. Bread smelled and tasted like a dirty sock, not that I have ever eaten one but it was a disgusting flavor. So we are all thinking how could they screw up the mashed potatoes but they gave us so little butter you couldn't even tell you had put butter on them and they were cold too. This place will probably never get a second try from us even though we love BBQ. One last thing,,, how bad was it? I have over half of the meat in a box to take home to my Husky but I am worried she will choke on it cuz it is so tough. Going to think about giving it too the blender first so she can have a taste. I have been eating here from time to time over the years and at first their food was consistently good. In recent months either the chef has changed or the ingredients have and the food has become worse and worse. Today i went there on the off-chance that it had improved. I ordered a petite chopped salad with tri-tip. The meat was grey and tasteless and the salad was limp and slimy. After two bites i got up and left. The food was utterly inedible. My family has never been to Stonefire Grill until Monday. They hosted a Sensory Friendly night and that made all the difference to us. We don't go out to dinner, like at all. Why? Because it's stressful having a toddler let alone a toddler who gets easily overwhelmed in most restaurant environments. It was sooo nice to know that we had a place to go where we didn't have to worry about anything. Let me stress that it is not common to have a family friendly restaurant to go to where the lights are low, it isn't to loud, it's family friendly, the food is delicious, and overall not needing to say sorry. Thank you Firestone Grill. PLEASE HOST ANOTHER NIGHT, like once a month would be nice- so families like mine can get out. Stonefire Grill.... Two words.. Tri-tip and Carrot Cake... I attend Concordia University in Irvine, the university that is hidden in the "holy hills" and that no one knows about. Anyways, sitting in class and my professor says, "OH MY GOSH~ Everyone in this class needs to go to Stonefire Grill." So being a good student I find myself sitting at a table with the number 81 assigned to me, don't I feel like i'm at the DMV, and here comes a young man with my salad...then another person comes along and there it was... the mouth wateringly amazingly ridiculous i don't even want to spell correctly jakdfljsk good tri-tip...so i sit there staring at this plate of meat poking at it. What am I supposed to do with it? It just looks too good to eat. So I take a bite and... the angels fell down and joined me for dinner. To top off the meal a little birdie swooshed by my table and dropped off a package of carrot cake... one word can describe that cake... decadent.... anywhos, 5 stars, the whole team there runs a great restaurant, managers are good people, and the food for its price is unbeatable. If you go, may I suggest, the Stimulus Package, 1 pizza, half tri-tip, salad, and breadsticks...for a WHOPPING $20. Enough to feed 3 hungry people or 4 people people...haha... Tried this location during a weekday lunch. I'm a fan of their Ceasar Salad. It was busy but I had a few choices of seating after I ordered at the counter. I ordered a Quarter Chicken/Tri Tip Combo that comes with a choice of salad and two yummy bread sticks. Guess which salad I choose! The Chicken had lemon seasoning and the Tri-Tip herb butter. The Salad was huge for one person, but I ate it all and just had a little of bit of chicken and meat. Took home the rest and 1 1/2 bread sticks (for my son). The salad was delivered first and maybe 10 mins later out came the hot food. The chicken was juicy and the tri tip was med. rare. Everything was good. The only thing I don't like is having to remember to get a plate, utensils, napkins a togo box. I had to get up too many times and weave my way through the seating area. This location is smaller than the Fountain Valley one. I like the food, just not the set up of the self service drink/plate station. read more

great convenient place. the restaurant has a lot of seating and is spaced out enough to where you do not feel like you are not listening to your neighbor's conversation. even though this is pseudo-self-service place, the servers are very helpful with anything you ask. the only thing i order here is the stimulus package. i go and think that i will order something different, but it is honestly the best deal and the best variety. it includes, a choice of tri-tip, chicken, or rib, a choice of salad, a whole pizza, and breadsticks. my order is usually the tri-tip (half bbq half gorgonzola butter), caesar salad, breadsticks, and pineapple with canadian bacon (i personally enjoy chicken and avocado). the tri-tip is usually pretty good. even though they ask you how you want it cooked, it ends up being medium to medium-well. i prefer medium-rare, but the flavor is good enough for me. i've read in other reviews that the meat is tough and chewy. it is hit/miss with this place because they crank out a bunch of these orders. the caesar salad has A LOT of garlic, which i love, but i can see not being so great to other people. it has a spicy zip to it that will tickle your nose. but the portion is large and usually can't be finished between 2 people. the breaksticks are covered in garlic and parmesan, it's like poetry. the pizza is cooked in a "stonefire grill" so it has a rustic taste to it but it is mostly crust. they have a selection of wines which i tried once. it was a nice compliment to the tri-tip and to the rest of the meal. i love places where you can refill your own drinks. i wish more restaurant were setup like this so that the little things that you need and hate always asking for are available for you to get when you want them. i feel that this place is best for families and couples. my girlfriend and i go often and we eat our meal then save the leftovers for lunch at work the next day. $20 covers 2 meals for 2 people, i can't complain. if you get the chance, try other things on the menu. i hear a lot of good things about their pastas, but i don't really know personally. read more

Great atmosphere with friendly staff. We ordered the Caesar salad, pesto pasta and margarita pizza. The margarita pizza was bland. Not enough sauce and the dough was slightly soggy. The cheese fell off every time you went to grab a new slice. The Caesar salad is always amazing but this time it was dry. We had to ask for a side of extra dressing. The pesto pasta was on point! I will tell you how much I love this place. When my son was younger, he liked to go to some event at the Game Stop close to Stonefire Grill. I never objected, even though we live a good hour from Irvine (more if traffic is bad) because it meant I got to have a meal here! To start with, the Greek salad is delicious; chock full of feta cheese and briny olives, a little kick from the pepperocinis, some sweet earthiness from the beets and of course the lettuce, which was fresh and well prepped; no hard pieces from the core like some restaurants try to pawn off on you! Standard Greek dressing, but not too oily or tart- just right. The bread sticks come hot from the oven. Beware their buttery addictiveness or you may not have room left for dinner when it arrives. I've had the tri-tip, the chicken and the ribs and they're all good. What I really love is the pizza. The crust is just right for me; not too thick or doughy. The sauce is mild and not overly sweet and there's plenty of cheese and toppings, but not so much that the crust collapses. The place is always clean, the service is efficient, the prices are reasonable; the one downside is that it does get very crowded at times, so you may have a bit of a wait for a table. But hey, that's what you get for choosing such a great place to eat! read more

Went there for a large order about a month or so ago and they have awful service. Do not go! Called my order in and was there at the time they said the order would be complete. Went to the front carry out area and gave them all the info and paid. The cashier told me to please wait. I waited 20 minutes beyond the time and was observing the cashier and everyone to see when an order like mine might come out. I was getting impatient but waited. Nothing came out of the kitchen, the cashier that I paid through finally realized my order has been done the entire time sitting in the cubby behind her even before I paid. I asked her how long was it sitting and she lied straight to my face, 'maybe ten minutes. " I was pissed. I would have complained to the manager but we had guests over so I was rushed. I asked for more BBQ sauce, she then gave me attitude. Mind you we ordered 5 or 6 lbs of tri tip and other stuff to go along with it and I told her that. She then showed me some BBQ sauce was in there and got me more. That's all she had to say. Got home a few minutes later and had the guests eat really cold food. We had to heat it all up again. This was horrible service and I wish I remember the girl's name because she was useless. If you don't mind cold BBQ, go ahead and get some from this place. Otherwise you might have your food sitting for 20 minutes too long before you get to eat it. There is no excuse. I was watching the waitress and she really didn't do much throughout the time. She could have easily pulled it out at the time of payment, hell even a few minutes after. I've never seen service this bad and it wasn't cheap. this place is really goood! i've lived in irvine for almost 3 years now and this was the first time ever going here :O you order carl's jr style where you order at a cash register beforehand and they give you a number and bring your food to your table wherever you sit, pretty casual! the meat is pretty damn deliciouss, we got the ribs, chicken, and tri tip combo and all three were very satisfying. each of the meats were amazing and the breadsticks were also pretty bomb. overall the food is very filling and delicious, i would recommend either the chicken or tri tip. look to spend 12~20$$ depending on what you order read more

I came here for the first time for dinner and I did not feel this was 4 star worthy food. Our chicken on our pizza was totally dried out and out pizza had almost no sauce on it. Our bread sticks were stale and lacked flavor. When we pointed out to the server the bread stick was clearly old and stale she took them away but never came back to offer to refund our card. After 10 minutes I went up myself and asked. The girl seemed confused and said "she didn't know how to handle the situation." Since I only had 1/2 of a bread stick I went to the manager and finally got my refund. I was all around not impressed and won't be returning. read more

I highly recommend Stonefire Grill for takeout or catering. The quality of the food and the taste are unbeatable. The price is also very reasonable. I ordered 'The Works' from their Crowd Pleaser menu for my son's highs school graduation dinner. We had 20 guests and ended up with a lot of left overs. The tri tip was cooked to perfection, juicy and delicious. The roasted chicken with savory herb and garlic seasoning was amazing. All the sides from mashed potatoes to Cesar salad, baked beans, and especially the quinoa salad were big hits. I also ordered two slabs of baby back ribs... All gone. I've only had a couple things to eat here. I've had the truth-tip, which is tender enough and flavorful. I had the garlic chicken breadth, which is pretty good, though a bit dry. I've also had the ribs, which are not very good. The breadsticks and the salads are amazing and the pizzas look pretty good. I would and do eat here regularly. read more

I came in and made modifications to my order, and not only did he greet me and recognize me as a former employee, but he checked our order and quickly realized there were a couple of items forgotten. He took the leadership to ask another employee to help him grab the food. I saw them fist bump one another, and he just seemed to have a really enthusiastic, can do, positive attitude, which made my trip that much better. I drove all the way from L.A county to pick up a semi large to-go order but of course was running late. The staff (especially Christina) and managers (George and Coyotl) were so kind enough to let me pick up my food past closing time. I felt horrible because they absolutely did not have to wait since I agreed to pick up at a certain time. It was my responsibility to arrive on time. Went there for the first time today. The breadsticks were cold and slightly hard (wth) and the chicken tortilla soup has one piece of meat in it. ONE PEICE. It wouldn't be a big deal if I hadn't inquired about if the soup was good and the guy said "oh yea it's so much protein and so chunky" so that is what I was expecting. I probably would have skipped this review if there were two pieces lol. The food at Stonefire is awesome. Their stimulus package is an affordable way to feed a small party. Yet I recently had a negative experience with their takeout. The young lady at the front takeout desk was doing a phenomenal job. But she was completely overworked. She was answering phone calls, taking orders at the front, getting orders to guests who piled up at the door, and walking to the kitchen to ask the staff for marinara sauce and things that were missing from orders. For some reason, it took them 22 minutes to give me a small packet of marinara sauce. The girl at the front was working her butt off while two, what looked to be managers, surveyed the restaurant and did nothing to help with the dinner rush. I really don't want to do takeout again here after this experience. The food was great, but in a night when I was in a rush, the restaurant failed to put their employees in a position to succeed. I felt like the guy from bar rescue who could easily notice that there was something wrong with the management and organization of the staff. Improve the customer experience and this place is easily a 4 or 4.5 star. read more

This was actually my first time trying out Stonefire because I saw the promotion for the stimulus package. When i got there, i decided to order it to go just because it seemed crowded and I was beginning to get a headache. I guess the guy who took my order misheard me but I said to go; he ended up giving me a # instead of taking my name. Everyone else was getting their food and I was beginning to wonder if they forgot about me. I think the manager saw me sitting there with a number in hand and came by to ask if I ordered to go, I said yes so he went back to get my order. I picked up my food and left. Well when I got home, I opened everything and guess what? Yup, they messed up on my order. It's so obvious since they crossed off the number on the bag and crossed off what I ordered. So, you're probably wondering why I am giving them 5 stars? Well my boyfriend went back to get the correct order. He spoke to the manager Sean and he was super awesome. Sean apologized for the mistake and definitely made up for it. Not only did he give us our correct order but he also added some extras and when I say extras I mean EXTRAS! When my boyfriend came back, I was shocked to see him carrying extra bags. He explained to me what happened and he himself wasn't expecting such a generous outcome.
