My son and I were in the area and the weather called for a picnic and we saw poke calling for us. Steve's Poké Bar is conveniently located in a strip mall. Ample parking. We arrived shortly after opening and the really helpful staff member was already filling an order. We asked a few questions about what was popular and he had 2 great suggestions for us. We got one of each. The spicy salmon and the Tuna. The names are really creative, but I forgot. He made the bowls look beautiful and delicious. We noticed how fresh and clean the place felt. The ingredients looked nice. We gave our bowls 2.5 - 3/5 stars. They were OK. Tasted a little fishy. If you've read my reviews you know we love seafood and fish is often a go-to. I am not sure if it was the seaweed or the Tuna. Hopefully, it was a one-off The 4/5 star reflects the service and the establishment as a whole. read more

This wasn't the first time we've been here and it won't be the last. It's an excellent reminder of Hawaii. My kid and I were venturing off to Surrey for an errand and she was in the mood for poké, so I had the forethought to get a Groupon for this restaurant prior to hitting the road, and after reading all the great Yelp reviews about it first. Glad I did so, as our meals were terrific but, without the Groupon, the price would've been quite high. (Even with the Groupon, it was still pricey. But hey, I don't believe in pinching pennies when it comes to raw fish meals, ya know?). I was impressed with this small restaurant in a strip mall, despite its unassuming exterior. (I don't know why some reviewers noted that it had a large interior. It is TINY! There's a front counter right when you go in, to order your meal, then a narrow hall/galley where there are three or four tall bistro tables against one wall, each sitting two people on tall bar stools. So max occupancy to dine in is 6 or 8 people). But despite the small size, it is very clean and quite cute, with a beachy, Hawaiian-themed vibe: white walls on one side and blue on the other, photos of Hawaiian beaches and scenes, and framed beachy, Hawaiian-related quotes. There are also stringed lights creating a canopy on high over the narrow hall/galley where the tables are, and some metal silver fish heads attached to the wall above the tables. The blue and white palette and the fish and beach art give the place a nautical feel, as do the white and blue tiles by the front counter. Very cute. The staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful! We had a young guy explain to us (patiently!) how to order, and gave us samples of the various poké fishes (all were delicious and fresh). I liked how he asked if we had any allergies to any foods and I also liked how you can choose what base you want in your bowl (greens, rice or quinoa - or half and half of any two. Nice!). My kid and I both customized our bowls; she got the two scoop poké bowl with tuna, I got the one scoop with salmon. The portions were large and there were tons of toppings to add on. Most of the toppings were standard but a few would have cost a surcharge, so we didn't order those. (Without the Groupon, my small bowl and my kid's regular bowl, with no extra-priced toppings and no drinks, would have cost $23.50. Perhaps that's the norm for poké, I'm not sure. Again, it's worth it for me when we're talking about raw fish. It doesn't pay to scrimp!). It's great that they have lids by the sauce/condiment table, so you can package up leftovers (which we both had. Again, portions are big here!). I heard the girl at the front counter helping other customers when we were eating and she was as pleasant and helpful to them as our guy was to us. Really nice staff here! My only reservations (and these are, of course, subjective): I got a few hard, thin seaweed or greens stems/sticks in my bowl and had to spit them out. They were hard and inedible. Also, I wasn't a fan of the imitation crab; it didn't taste real to me. The lids are really hard to fit on the bowls (at least, the small size ones, anyhow. The medium bowl lids fit fine. Not only did they patiently explain what I had been missing for my entire life, but they also prepared me generous bowl of stuff from the selection of treats that can make Poke my new best lunch. To top it all off, they DID NOT charge me an arm or even a leg for the experience. If you already know about this stuff, we will meet at some l point in the future. It definitely showed me how confident they are in the fresh fish and recipes. The poke was so amazing I didn't mix my ingredients up and enjoyed their flavors on the fish. Unlike other places where they flood your bowl with cover up sauces this place is fresh and delicious!!! I had the spicy tuna, shoyu tuna and spicy salmon. The food was great and the flavour was very unique. We had a 50% coupon so I'm not sure if this is reflective of regular priced items... the food was decently sized but the scoops of fish were so small. It was the smallest portion of fish I've ever had compared to all the other poke places I've tried. We even paid an extra $2.50 for an extra scoop but to be honest you're better off getting sushi with that money considering how little it came with. I had pineapple in my bowl and it didn't taste very fresh, tasted like the canned pineapple and was really mushy. The sauce was yummy but so little was given in our bowl even though we customized it with all 5 sauces. Okay experience overall but very disappointed with the amount of fish it came with. I am so happy to finally have a poké restaurant in Surrey, and this place certainly delivered! They offer the usual suspects of bases, proteins and toppings - the proteins were fresh and the regular toppings are unlimited, so you can go to town with your bowl! My only suggestion / request would be to add brown rice, tofu & cilantro as additional options. Their owner, Steve, is what really makes this place special. I went here for their grand opening last Saturday to take advantage of their one-day promo of $5 bowls. I came with my daughter & a friend, but my daughter fell asleep in the truck... so I asked my friend to place my order for me while I waited in the vehicle. It was obviously extremely busy, and despite their "1 bowl per customer" policy on their promo, Steve himself allowed my friend to order multiple bowls (instead of forcing me to wake up my child)! Finally, poke has arrived in the north part of Surrey! The other poke place that I know of is Island Cafe in Grandview Corners located in south Surrey. I assume we were greeted by Steve. He was energetic with the Hawaiian flare and allowed a number of us to try all the poke selection available. We sampled 6 different marinated flavours of the day consisting of tuna, salmon and scallops. We decided to create our own bowls with two scoops of poke on rice. You are allowed to mix and match the scoops of poke. There was a selection of free and additional charge toppings to choose from and then there is a sauce station to dress up your bowl some more. read more

I first tried Steve's Poke Bar at the SFU campus and I have to say, their poke bowls are quite good but the quality isn't quite there. Pros- the fish is nicely seasoned. Not too salty. They have quinoa (you can do half quinoa, half salad or rice). Cons- The toppings explode out of the container but only because the toppings are quite cheap. Corn, edamame, imitation crab, wakame(green food colouring and MSG), canned pineapples to name a few. I asked if they carried wild salmon (sockeye) and the worker said "no, all of our fish is farmed". Not as healthy as you think but for taste and convenience, it's all there! read more

To start, I've never seen any poke bar in Metro Vancouver stack their bowls higher than @stevespokebar (Surrey location) (Look at Dustin's bowl in the back, we actually had a hard time putting the lid on). On top of that, I can't stress how great their customer service was. This was one of the worst order my family and us have ever experienced. We ordered two bowls of Salmon and Tuna for our daughter and her friend on her birthday for delivery and everything was normal, the delivery went through my credit card and we got the receipt with the tracker number, it said it was going to arrive in 30 mins. After waiting for an WHOLE hour nothing was delivered. The kids were complaining and getting hungry so I had to call and ask about the order and they said it was picked up, not delivered, it was out of our control........ But what about my order, receipt, and money? (I asked) They said: If you have any questions email this xxxxxx, (...even though I have questions such as WHO TOOK MY FOOD AND WHERE IS IT??? is emailing going to get the food delivered?, honestly, we just want our order to arrive) "it's out of our control"..."we cannot do anything", you can also cancel your order ...and then the person proceeded to blame us for not canceling the order after waiting for 1 hour and calling the restaurant and waiting. They made the order again and had it delivered, We ordered the food at 2:57pm it came at 5:11 pm in the afternoon for the food to finally arrive. The most horrible thing is, we never received an email or compensation for anything from the mishap from customer service, despite that horrible customer service and management. They just expected us to email them into a system full of questions and spams and waited for this mishap to go away. We will never order from this place again. It was a horrible, traumatic, and unfortunate experience for all of us but im positing this for others to know so that hopefully, this will not happen to anyone in the future. read more

I was a regular at the Steve's Poke Bar in Willowbrook mall, so I was very excited to be able to eat poke again after not being able to for so long during quarantine. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. As I was ordering I realized that no longer did they allow more than one scoop of certain toppings, saddening megreatly because my usual order only consists of rice, shoyu salmon, wakame, and crab. I was also let down by the quality of the shoyu salmon, so much so that I thought they had given me something different by accident. It did not taste fresh, and it was bland, a stark contrast to what it usually tastes like in store. It's small but cozy inside and the staff are very friendly. Really delicious poke in surrey! Customer service was above and beyond in aspects that the servers would describe the flavours to you and suggest the best toppings that would work with the proteins. They also give samples for you to try before making your decision. The poke was super fresh. Toppings were unlimited so I went a bit crazy on my favourites! You could also mix and match your base so I did mostly salad and a bit of rice! Only suggestion is maybe to add tamago and fresh pineapples. The pineapples there seemed like they were canned. The 2 scooped (large) bowl was $12 and if you wanted the premium toppings it was $1+. My boyfriend got the 1 scoop bowl $9 and it was smaller than anticipated.
