Came inside Cross Street Market for a bite. It was between Steve's or Chicken Lab. My fiancée convinced me to go with Steve's since they're usually closed when we're here. It did not disappoint. This might be my third time here. I usually get the cheesesteak lunch special that comes with a drink and fries ($13). I'm glad they were busy because the staff appears hard working and the food here is very good. The cheesesteak roll was soft and chewy, and the oils and grease did not seep through. I got onions and provolone and as you can see from the photos, the sandwich was hot and fresh, with a nice stretch from the cheese. The fries had a nice color, crispy on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside. This meal hit the spot. There is plenty of seating inside CSM. Come to Steve's for a great satisfying meal at a reasonable price.

It's meh. The set up, service, and food are just meh. The prices aren't that crazy considering the food is less than average. The hamburger was dry and seemed like it had died in a freezer months ago. There was a decent attempt made on the sausage egg and cheese on wheat. I could have just gone over to the crepe woman and had something fire. It's nothing to write home about but will keep you from starvation.

No fuss, no frills, just an older man and his griddle cooktop. You get your order in and you leave in an exchange of few words. Steve's Lunch is far from glamorous, but it is fast, and when you just wanna walk down the street with burger and fries in hand before you get back to your shift, Steve's has your back with some of the thickest kaiser rolls I've seen. It actually works great, since all of the mess you'd get with a weaker bun is contained by the roll; this is, in a word, perfect stroll snacking. It's the cheapest food in the entire Cross Street Market, too, which is probably its niche. I can't hate it, but I wish the fries were seasoned a bit more evenly. At least I got my money's worth from one of the few mom and pop-style places left in the downtown area.

What you might expect for a quick diner bite. I got the egg, bacon, and hashbrown breakfast. The price was excellent- $8.48! The customer service was great. The meal was cooked fresh to order and didn't take long to prepare at all. The hash browns were delicious. The bacon, a bit salty. The eggs were very bland. I would ask them to put seasoning on them next time. Easy, breezy breakfast in the Cross Street Market.

I feel silly giving any sort of review for a business I only bought a homemade unsweetened ice tea from (it was a hot day and yes it was a damn good tea!). But for those who loved this place in the past and would appreciate an update, or else for those interested in checking it out for the first time, I'm here to share a photo of their latest menu (late June 2022)

The food at this location is on point, if you are in to American fried food. They give large portions for the price as well. I had the cheesesteak and fries and was impressed. The bread for the sandwiches is very good!

(6/28/2016) Was waiting for my car to get serviced on a weekday morning at Firestone and wandered over to Cross Street Market just to see what was open. Surprisingly, a lot at 9 am. Bruce Lee Wings and Nick's were tempting, but I went straight through past the butchers and fishmonger to the Light Street side and found Steve's Lunch. Usually we're here on a football Sunday drinking quart beers at Nick's raw bar or happy hour in the evenings and this part of the market is closed. There were 3 ladies working the counter, classic Bawlmer hons. There were several service and night shift staff coming in for their "lunches" or "dinner." Plenty of regulars, greeted by name and sandwiches already started before they ordered. Got a standard breakfast sandwich: sausage, egg, American cheese, on wheat toast. They use straight up shell eggs here. Bread was lightly toasted, very soft, like Wonder bread (not necessarily a bad thing in this case). Sausage patty was fatty, salty, peppery. Classic American diner fare, made to order, and piping hot. Prices cheap for Fed Hill.

Menu since the renovations to Cross St Market, very reasonable prices

We had a group of 80 people and the staff did a good job managing a large party. For the meal, it was served family style. We had the following entrees after being served salad: penne vodka (super good, our table requested a second plate because we devoured it), Eggplant parm (also really really good), Chicken Marsala (this was good and cooked well), Lasagna without meat (our table didn't get a serving of this sadly so I'm not sure how it tasted). For dessert, we were served Tiramisu and Cannolis which everyone loved. For a big group, this was an amazing place to go and the staff adapted well to make it a good experience. I would definitely eat here again and for sure would order the penne vodka, so if you are in the area try it out!

Ambiance is very old school italian restaurant which is fine and adds to the vibes. Our server seemed a little tired and/or noncommital. He did in fact forget the order of appetizer we put in (its fine, it wasn't on the final receipt) but otherwise didn't check up on us much. We weren't provided a dessert menu after dinner. I got the order of calamari fra diavoli with a side of italian wedding soup (so needed on a very brisk autumn night). The pasta was really yummy. It hit the right level of spicy and it was an ample portion of calamari on it. My bf and his dad both got the eggplant parm and both commented on how it was a really well done eggplant parm where the breading was not too greasy and there was a nice crunch when cutting into the eggplant. We definitely do think we will come back again. Food saved it from being a 3 star in my opinion, because the service was a little meh.

Neighborhood chicken bowl mild: delicious the chicken breading is crispy and has the perfect curry taste without being overpowering. The pickled veggies with it is a great palate cleanser and balances all the flavors. I got it mild and while I was nervous of the spice level being too much for me (I'm a weenie) it was perfect, the kind of spice that actually adds to the dish instead of hurting you. Tempura broccoli: So good! Crunchy without being oily, it had a bunch of herbs on it the brightened the whole dish. Ancho chile pork bun: perfectly smokey and meaty without being fatty. This one we really struggled to eat as an actually sandwich because the pork is cubed so it just falls out the sides. The buns are a fun addition and have good texture so I'm happy we tried it, but if I went back I would be fine without it. Crab Rangoon: I was a bit skeptical about 1 crab Rangoon being $10 but that is because o was thinking of my midwestern type of crab rangoons. This was PACKED with actual crab and not a whole lot of cream cheese so the price made more sense when I figured that out. Still very good, but did not stand out amongst the rest. The place was so cool inside, they had about 7-10 bar seats inside with 2 tables outside, I recommend taking this to go. The service was nice and quick, you can tell they have a very efficient process. My only suggestion would be to turn the music down a little bit because it was hard for me and my husband to just talk to each other about plans that we had for the rest of the day. So happy this was featured on the yelp top 100 places so that we could try it!

I ordered two main dishes and was originally told it would take about 15 minutes, but it ended up taking double that, so just keep that in mind if you're in a rush like we were. The space itself is pretty small too, so it's more of a grab and go place. The Neighborhood Bird bowl was a HUGE portion. It was kind of spicy but the pickled onions helped even it out. I also tried the ancho chile pork bun. The bun itself tasted amazing, but it was a bit difficult to eat. The bottom got pretty soggy while the top bun was thick and tall, so it kind of fell apart while eating.
