Mini poke bowl with a view
Rebecca S.

This location opened up not to long ago. It's very small, has two tables outside, but there are plenty of benches all along the water. You can't get a better view, especially on a beautiful day. I chose the make your own mini poke bowl for $18.99. It comes with 3 choices of protein and 3 side choices. For a mini bowl it was huge! I couldn't finish it! There was so much delicious and fresh tuna and salmon. They also have a ton of different sides like crab, seaweed salad, pineapple, corn, radish etc. Avocado, mango and a few other options are extra. I would definitely recommend this place for a quick lunch and walk by the water.

Salmon Poke Bowl

We just arrived in Vancouver and wanted to get a quick lunch. The staff was very helpful in picking out the ingredients and trying the sauces. I love the fact that quinoa was able to be my base. I had the salmon Poké bowl and hubby had a mix of salmon and spicy tuna. These were absolutely the best Poké bowls we ever had. For drinks they had a choice of three different ice teas. We chose the black tea less sweet. It was so good I came back for a second drink.

I didn't expect to find much good quality food at SFU, but I was wrong. You just need to walk…read morearound for a bit. This 4 seat poké bar was better than I hoped for. I made my own bowl, which is always a lot of fun. First time I've had quinoa as a base, but let's give it a go! I think I went for most of the items, except for the ones where you had to pay extra. The tuna I got was fresh, as were the other ingredients. I went wild on adding sauces at the end. I designed a great concoction. I didn't get a seat at 3pm on a Thursday, so I had to walk back to campus to eat it. A quick thing I learned the hard way, if you want quinoa, use a spoon. Overall, friendliest staff I've met on campus, delicious choices, and quick service.

This week's delivery of choice: Steve's Poké Bar! Way back…read morebefore COVID was in existence, my coworkers and I would grab poke pretty frequently from Steve's Poké Bar for lunch at Lougheed. We all loved having this as a lunch option because it's, well, relatively more nutritious and clean than say, burgers or fried Vietnamese spring rolls. So, my bro and I decided to give the SFU location a try and waiting in steady anticipation for our custom poke bowls. The food came relatively quickly and the portions are still quite generous but...the sauce department was lacking. We both felt like there wasn't enough flavour to the poke, and the plain white rice was starting to overtake the delicious toppings. It was a bit different from my past experiences with the Lougheed location. Anyways, still got my poke fix, though I may lean towards trying Pokey Okey more next time haha

I love the burrito concept for a smaller portion option for poke bowl. I also love how easy it is…read moreto eat with the way they pre-cut your sushi burrito in half. My favourite is the Hawaiian classic. Everything came so beautifully together - the tuna with the sweet of corn, tang of pineapple, and crisp of tempura, the substance from seaweed. The burrito was perfect when I wasn't too hungry but definitely could have a bit more this time when I had a light breakfast. I also hope to try their torch options while the weather is still cold out. There is a $10 burrito Tuesday promotion so that's a $3 difference from My Hawaiian roll came up to $13. I'd like to add tamago and imitation crab to the Hawaiian roll (pineapple, tuna, seaweed salad, corn, radish coin, alfalfa, crispy tempura) next time! I like the nice and quiet ambiance, never too busy and staff are always friendly, even if I'm taking longer to decide.

I used the kiosk to order myself an Ahi Tuna Pokerrito. It probably took about 5 minutes to prepare, and I took it back to my office to eat. I like the idea of a handheld food, but in reality, it wasn't as easy to eat as I would have hoped. The nori wrap gets damp, and so it's a not easy to take a bite cleanly, and the nori on it's own it's stiff enough to hold itself up after removing the outer wrap. You end up making a tearing motion when eating, so it gets a bit messy. Taste-wise, it was fine. It had decent proportions of tuna and crab meat, and the tempura crisps gave it some nice crunchy texture. Overall, it was ok. For $14, I felt it was a reasonably priced, quick and satisfying enough. I got what I wanted for quick, easy lunch.
