She made reservations but it was nice out so we decided to sit on the patio which was fairly empty. The drinks were definitely interesting and fun! We all got different drinks the first round. My friends shared a few apps. Overall it was a nice time. The server gave us some bday shots (my bday was right before my friends) so that was really nice. The space inside is smaller so I definitely recommend making reservations! Plenty of street parking.

Wow, this place was cool!…read more The entry is pretty hidden and parking requires a bit of work unless you do valet. We went on a Saturday night, so we had to wait a bit in order to be seated. However, it was worth the wait for us. There is a dark moody vibe and while my group went in for drinks, there are also options for food. The place itself is pretty loud - both with music and talking, so maybe not the best location for a first date. The drinks are expensive, but the experience was worthwhile for us. I enjoyed the meditteránea. I'll very likely be back! What a neat spot.

Fortunately, I arrived at 5:30 PM on a Saturday, which was early enough to avoid a line and a velvet rope. I don't wait in line for anything unless I'm at a pharmacy, bakery, post office, or airport. Lines at restaurants and bars strike me as pretentious or bad management, and I don't tolerate either. However, I'm old, and at my age, nothing is worth waiting for unless it's a necessity. I found a seat at the beautiful and expansive bar and looked around at the Del Prado design. The colors might be different, but Flora was reminiscent of Minari and Noma. All three add to the Twin Cities' cachet. However, I was taken aback by the attire I saw around me. People were dressed in shorts, T-shirts, and sneakers. It's friggen Saturday night Minneapolis. Have some class! Flora Room was a lovely cocktail lounge, perfect for wooing, but don't expect to strike up a conversation with any of the bartenders. At these Del Prado joints, the staff must be trained not to engage. I'm out alone and enjoy talking. Bartenders used to be part of a lounge's attraction when I grew up in NYC. They learned your name, knew what you did, and gave you a hearty welcome. That, I guess, is not part of the culture in Minneapolis. Well, at least not at the Del Prado restaurants and bars. Chef Del Prado is from Argentina, and certainly, Argentina is one of the warmest and friendliest countries in the world, so I don't get it. I now live up the block from the Flora Room. I'm a neighbor and would like to be treated like one. Neighborly and the Flora Room are distant concepts.

One thing I wasn't a fan of was the QR code ordering system. It's laid out like a restaurant and the prices were typical restaurant prices, but the only time we saw a server was when they brought out our food. You also get your own water from a water station. It's not a huge deal, but for a place decorated so nicely it made it feel more like a fast food experience. It also asks for a tip with the traditional percentage amounts suggested which I thought was strange because I'm not sure who I would be tipping, I thought that usually went to your server? Besides that though I did really enjoy the burger. They have a pool table and many pieces of fun wall art to look at. They also have a nice patio for the summer.

Parking can be annoying in this area (old cobblestone streets), but there is a paid lot right across the street from the entrance if you can't find street parking. Upon walking in, the bar top itself was packed with regulars at an off hour on a Friday. We sat at a small table by the pull tabs. Fun & divey atmosphere with a pool table and plenty of photo ops. Decided on Bina's Burger (smash burger) with Fries, and a side of Mozzarella Sticks. Loved the classic cup the Coke came in, and I tried both of the Old Fashioned drinks on the menu. Bina's old fashioned is okay, and will do the trick if you're purely looking for effect. The Wisconsin old fashioned is very sweet with muddled cherries and orange. The mozzarella sticks were served with a tomato soup dip which was interesting, but makes sense (grilled cheese & tomato soup). Ultimately the smash burger is the star! Very salty and crispy and delicious! I could see this becoming a regular craving! Water and condiments are on a stand to the left of the pull tabs.

They described it as an upscale dive bar which I laughed at for sure, but when I went I would say that exactly how I would describe it. It's dark and moody, but very funky and hip with the neon walls and lights. It's very small, behind the new Public Domain space. Seems like the hostesses direct people waiting on a spot there to Neon Tiger while they wait. We were able to snag one of the last tables after we ordered (there are about 5 tables for 2, and 3 standing bar tables from what I remember). The menu isn't large - it has a couple of beers, some basic cocktails and lists spirits and mixers. The only new and exciting thing on the menu is their slushy cocktails. Good news is that this place isn't very pricey, but the portions aren't huge. My small espresso martini was $12, my boyfriend's beer didn't quite look like a full pint but was only $4. We did laugh that it was called Tiger piss. The espresso martini is good, but beware there's no actual cream liquor in the drink - they seem to squirt some foamy concoction from an unmarked squeeze bottle in a fridge on top, which was interesting. Overall, would come back here if I was bar hopping for cocktails - but wouldn't go out of my way to try it again. Great idea to send people here while waiting for Public Domain!
