Great service and even better food! I constantly dream about the chicken waffle sandwich. It's that good!

I have been here twice now, and I wish I could say I liked it. The service was friendly, it has a good beer selection, and there is plenty of convenient parking. The seating is awkward and uncomfortable. Last night our party of three was seated in a booth. The seats were too close to the table, and the table had a large round cast iron base that made it difficult to get in and out, and provided little room for feet and legs, even for my 5' 1" sister. I ordered the brisket bowl, which was a huge mistake. It would have been tasty, but everything was swimming in grease and I could only pick at it. Even so, the resulting heartburn kept me up most of the night. The location makes it a convenient place to meet friends, but if I go back I will insist on a table and opt for a salad. read more

Had a great lunch today! The New Orleans Shrimp Bowl was excellent. The beer menu has a great variety. Highly recommend checking this new place out! read more

So, I had never been here. Asked for a recommendation when I was shopping in the area and someone piped up that I had to go to this place. We went early on Valentine's Day with no reservation. Good thing we were there early as I noticed the manager and wait staff reviewing the multiple pages of reservations for the night. After eating, I can understand why. The wait person we had was superb. when I had questions, or asked for suggestions/comparisons, she was very helpful whether it was on beer, appetizers, substitutions etc. all good. We had the giant pretzel and cheese sauce. (I mean giant pretzel) My husband a Kolsch beer (she even got him a sample of the pistachio cream ale). I had a blueberry mojito. I had a cup of the wild rice soup-excellent. My husband had the mushroom Swiss burger and the waffle fries. I had a fried chicken sandwich and did a substitute for their balsamic onion jam on it and the Cole slaw. We loved it. I do not like fries but the waffles were nice. The coleslaw was not a sugary or vinegary slaw but a straight up fresh cabbage slaw. We had to have the bacon maple syrup donuts for dessert. We plan to be back. All the food was freshly made from scratch, not some factory set up of frozen food upfixed. The beer list was great along with the cocktail list. read more

Great food and drinks. Nice relaxing patio with live music. Our waitress Faith was fantastic!

Faith is the best waitress at Steele and Hops! Excellent! Thank you Faith! You're the best!

Food was good, but service not so much. Our server barely came to our table and never came to refill our drinks. She also brought back only large bills in change so we'd have to tip her big. It would have been a 50% tip if we left a big bill. So instead we left her with some singles... that's what happens when you get greedy read more

Came to this place for lunch, wasn't too busy so the food came out quickly. I had the BBQ Hash bowl. The temperature was a little on the cool side. The flavors of this dish were actually good together. The only issue I really had with this dish was the amount of grease at the bottom of the bowl. The meat could have had the grease drained a little better. The onion rings were a tad cold. Marc was behind the bar very informative and friendly made me feel comfortable. Over all a nice place for a business lunch and the menu has a variety of choices. The staff is great and the atmosphere is very nice. read more

First time trying out this new place in our neighborhood. Love the atmosphere. Love the adult slushees. The craft cocktail menu is wonderful. My steak bowl was very good. Could have used a bit more flavor. My mother ordered the boneless chicken wings because she just had some dental work done. They were hard as a rock and mostly all thick breading. Would not recommend ordering these. The very best part? The service!! Siri (sp?) is one of the best servers I have ever experienced anywhere! She was so kind and friendly and made this first visit here wonderful! I will be going back and trying other menu choices and cocktails very soon and ask for Siri! Oh and another thing, thank you very much for filling the martini glasses to the top. Strange little pet peeve of mine when you order an expensive martini and it is only half full. I often want to say where is the rest of my drink? Probably the reason I ordered 3 of them. Haha. Love this place. Can't wait to go back. read more

3 burger allegedly premium, fry desiccated hockey pucks. Need somebody who knows how to grill properly

The service was spectacular. We had the blackberry bramble, it wasn't sweet at all. Delicious gin flavor and bitterness - rating 6/10. Also had sparkling pomegranate cosmo - 10/10 perfectly sweet sour bitter strong. Enjoyed and licked the place clean --pulled pork nachos 13/10. Brussels are my fav - their maple bacon Brussels sprouts take the bitterness out of the Brussels, and are. 8.5/10 with a spoonful of the gravy it comes with finished with the maple bacon mini donuts - I was skeptical but the way these donuts tasted... I promise you I am now a far. I will be back here. Idk how I'll be able to try anything new with how good the food I tried was today. To top it off, the part-owner came around bussing plates out of the way, humbly introducing himself and making sure the food and service was up to par. I have nothing poor to say about this place. Absolute best date night spot we've found in a long time. read more

Pretty unremarkable food. Cheese curds were good but not any better than any other decent pub. Food seemed very suburban and bland, like they're trying to please every picky eater who came here looking for something slightly nicer than the Applebee's they usually go to. read more

First of all the appetizers and drinks were all really good. However the service was not. The server made an "executive decision" to up-charge us for extra sides we didn't order. We had to wait nearly 30 minutes to order a second round of drinks and only got them ordered when we flagged down a manager. Our main dish, the brisket grilled cheese was not good, it had a fishy taste and smell and was disappointing. I would be willing to give this place another try but just to sit at the bar and have a drink and app. read more

I ordered take out and they had it ready right on time. I had a 15 minute drive before I could eat and the food was still hot and the waffle fries were still crispy! Food was great! read more

Decent apps, we had the goat cheese toast and cheese curds which were both great. The main courses were "eh", especially for the price. We had hugely overpriced cocktails and then went to the bar for a couple martini night caps which were great. Friendly service as well. Overall, I'd recommend going just for apps and drinks, but nothing more. read more

What a great experience! Read the positive reviews and the food and service was consistent with rave reviews. We split a mushroom and Swiss burger. Paid extra for sweet potato fries. (so worth it) Also split the New Orleans shrimp bowl. (delish) We will definitely go back again. Give it a try!!!! read more

Terrible experience here tonight. When we arrived we were told it would be 20 minutes wait with an absolute max of 30 minutes. We checked at the desk when it had been 40 minutes and then again at 1 hour and were told both times seating was imminent. After 1 hr 20 minutes we went up to the desk and said if we weren't seated in one minute we'd leave. They couldn't give us a time so we left. It wouldn't have been so bad if they'd reached out every once in a while to let us know what was going on. We had to keep checking ourselves. Over-promised and under-delivered. read more

I had the beef brisket very fatty. Norm there food is very good. I would not order the brisket again.

A welcome addition to the neighborhood for sure. A big, attractive bar and a nice dining room. They even have a small stage and had two acoustic performers. The food was very good; locally sourced and prepared well. my son and I both had a burger and it was rock solid, while my wife had bone-in chicken, which was delicious. Our server was attentive but wasn't hovering to turn the table. We don't have a lot of ambitious restaurants in the New Brighton/St. Anthony area, and Steele & Hops immediately joins the top rank of restaurants in this part of town. Will return to try the cocktails next. read more

Even though the waiter was kind The food was horrible it was so salty I couldn't even eat my food and the prices are to high

Last night was our first visit to Steele and Hops and we were definitely not disappointed. Even though they were really busy and we did not have reservations, we were seated immediately and the hostess was very friendly. John, our server for the evening, greeted us immediately and seemed very friendly. We asked for recommendations on the appetizers and he named the top three that are ordered the most. The crab an artichoke dip was delicious and the portion size was great. My husband ordered one of their hamburgers and he said it was one of the best that he had ever had. I tried the berry salad which was extremely fresh and the white balsamic vinegar dressing was delicious! Since the evening was going so well we decided to split a dessert and ordered the mud pie. One piece was more than enough for two of us! We couldn't finish all of it. The entire bill before tip was $56 for one appetizer, two entrées and a dessert. John helped to make the evening very enjoyable so we will definitely be back! read more

I don't live on this side of the metro but was across town with my family and needed a meal when I saw the photos and reviews of the food. They did not disappoint, which is hard to do with a family of six. The burgers were all excellent, the ribs were tender and toothy, but the special shout out goes to the chicken waffle sandwich. It was a mess to eat but the chicken was perfectly cooked and the salty sweet combo of everything was amazing. It's 45 minutes from my house and not on the way to anything I typically do... but am looking for an opportunity to come back and have that sandwich again. Also the waffle fries were all crisp, hot, and fresh on each plate... which seems easy enough to do, but usually a few of us get a pile of limp flavorless ones when we have gone elsewhere. Service was kind of slow but the wait staff was kind. read more

Me and my boyfriend came here with my son and had an amazing experience unfortunately our son was crabby so we had to go home and take our food to go. As far as we can remember our food was amazing so we decided to give it another try without the kiddo. However from the service to the food it was a complete 1 out of 10. Unlike last time our server could not be bothered to have a ounce of hospitality. When we received our drinks it tasted like half of the bottle of salt was poured in there. Our food was mediocre to say the least lacked a lot of flavor. The orange chicken lacked a lot of flavor came with literally six pieces of chicken. The buffalo dip was amazing however it came with several chips and then we were asked if you would like some more chips for our dip and we were charged for a whole plate of chips that we should've received with the original dip. Over all we will not be coming back the price was not worth the service or the food. read more

Got an ad on Instagram when we were talking about going to lunch and saw it was the opening day - and boy did it not disappoint. We got the smoked turkey sandwich based on the suggestion of the lady next to us and it was amazing. Hibiscus cocktail was delicious and the staff were so sweet! Definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu! read more

Small/undersized portions, mediocre food, nice atmosphere. Beers came in what appeared to be 10oz glasses. The Moscow Mule came in a baby's sized cup (no where near a mug). Brisket was no where near the 12 oz advertised, and the cole slaw was about what you would get as a sample in a grocery store. The side of BBQ sauce came cold from the frig. However, the brisket was extremely tender with good fat content and a pleasure. The waffle fries were excellent as appeared to come frozen with spices from a good restaurant supply. The ribs were meaty, but underwhelming, again with hardly a spoonful of slaw and cold BBQ sauce. The Korean bowl had undercooked rice (subjective) but the remaining contents were overcooked with tough meat and soggy vegs. (We ordered a different bowl, but did not complain when they brought the wrong food.) Their concoction varied from a true Bulgogi with a lack of sufficient onion and they added what seemed like cashews (a bold try to add texture), but walnuts would have been more on point. The atmosphere helped cover the food and drink deficiencies. A good conversion from an Applebees, however their white washing of the brick will be dated and cannot be reversed when styles change. But it looks nice now and the crowd was great on a Friday evening! read more

My wife and I came here on Sunday. I love the interior and look of everything! Very clean and modern. The bar is also very nice looking. We got sat in a booth and ordered some drinks. I got the gin specialty cocktail which was fantastic. My wife enjoyed hers as well. We ordered cheese curds to start and they were very good! I loved the smoked ketchup that came with them. For entrees I got the Mac & cheese with smoked brisket, and my wife got the ribs with fries. The ribs were very good! The fries were crispy. It came with a small ramekin of coleslaw, would like a slightly bigger portion of that since it's just one bite really. The only negative thing about my experience was my entree- the Mac & cheese. It was the worst one I've had anywhere. The cheese sauce is extremely bland and very watery, not a good consistency. The noodles were over cooked, and sadly the brisket was so incredibly dry. I was actually surprised how bad that meal was, probably one of the worst entrees I've had in a while. I still like this place and will get something else next time, but if management reads these, please take that item off your menu or fix it! read more
