I gave this place a try for lunch after a member of my family insisted we check it out. I was hesitant at first due to all the negative reviews I was reading, but man was I pleasantly surprised! I had the lunch buffet which had a decent selection of food, salad, and desserts. Their fried chicken tenders were super tasty as was everything else. A member of my party was also obsessed with their catfish. It definitely was well worth the visit. Service was nice. I also was checking out some of the portions of the tables around me who opted to order from the menu over the buffet, and the portions looked huge! Visiting Branson for Thanksgiving and decided to try the Thanksgiving buffet they advertised. We were seated promptly, our drink order taken and instructions on how they work. I got the turkey and corn bread dressing and my wife and daughter got chicken, ham and mashed potatoes with a roll. I have never had turkey or dressing this dry in my life. I had to drown it with gravy and that didn't help much. My wife and daughter said the ham tasted weird and the potatoes had the texture of grits. The rolls were hard and inedible. $60 for a lunch buffet for 3. When the host asked everything was, I honestly told he/she that it wasn't good at all. Their Thanksgiving dinner was a HUGE RIPPOFF!!!! The driest pork loin ever. The turkey was like eating wet salt. The sweet potatoes was water soaked straight from a can, same as the green bean casserole. What I thought was cranberry jelly was cherry flavored jelly it didn't matter because there was no hot dinner rolls or biscuits. The pumpkin pie and Pecan pie was just like it came from Walmart, "Freshly made, then frozen, then thawed". There was not one thing that represented a home made Thanksgiving dinner despite the hard work from the staff. The fault lies with the owners trying to cut corners and save money. This establishment DOES NOT represent what Branson is about. Will NEVER RETURN!!!! At 60 dollars plus the 8$ tip the service was a 3 out of 5. We were kind of close to the back entrance which the staff kept coming in and out of smoking cigarettes. I don't care if the staff smokes or not but the owners should designate a location other than right by a door in close proximity to people dining. There was a male waiter/busboy who was rather loud and being friendly with the one table I saw him wait on. Great breakfast buffet! Stopped in after trying 2 or 3 other places on a Saturday morning but didn't want to wait for a table. Everything on the buffet was very good. The eggs were fluffy, the ham was cut thick, the bacon was tasty. It was obvious the biscuits were homemade. There was a good variety for everybody in our family. A very good deal at $8.99! It was better than the buffet at Shoney's we had earlier in the week which was $10.99. The only negative was my wife said the women's restroom needed cleaning. New to the area, decided to try Starvin Marvin's! We had high hopes upon entering the restaurant. The host was very friendly, and our server, Stacy was great! We started with the boudin balls as an appetizer. When they came to the table, to my surprise, 4 came to an order, and weren't very big. The outer crust for the BB's was hard as a rock. On to our entrees, my girlfriend had the Grilled Cajun shrimp tacos and I gave the pot roast a shot. Our appetizer arrived, 4 minutes later, our entrees arrived, 1 minutes later my side salad arrived, so not much time to try to enjoy any one item. My girlfriend ate 3 of the rubbery "grilled" shrimp from a taco and stopped after that. My pot roast was disappointing by far. I was hoping for a good slow cooked pot roast, but instead I got some kind of sodium filled meat product from a bag. If they dare tell me it was cooked in house, I'll gladly hand over my chef coat. Gravy for the potatoes and pot roast was thinner than the sweet tea my date was drinking. And again.. what's up with the romaine lettuce served UNDER the pot roast? Seriously confused on that one. Being from Louisiana, Starvin Marvin's was a restaurant that we were nervous about. Many places claim they serve Authentic Louisiana Cuisine and many fail. This was quite possibly the closest we have come to real Cajun food outside of the Pelican State. The Gumbo was made utilizing an actual Roux not just from a box. The Blackened Fish was by far the best I have eaten outside of our home state. With that being said, If you are from Louisiana, DO NOT GO IN EXPECTING REAL CAJUN FOOD. If you are from any other state and you want to experience an introduction to Semi-Cajun food this is the place to go! Our Waiter was absolutely fantastic. He constantly checked on us and always refilled our drinks. The atmosphere reminded us of home. To top it all off, they give you a little cup of ice cream to wash it all down. I wanted to go to the Farmhouse, but my husband didn't want to wait 20-30 minutes and look around. So he stopped at this restaurant. Price wasn't bad. When I looked at the buffet I started to cry. I wanted to get some good pancakes. They looked and tasted like cheap frozen pancakes. Our food came out one dish at a time with a good ten minutes in between. when i asked to speak to a manager i was told that there was not one available and an asst. manager was not there either. So someone sent an older waitress over to speak to me. To come and find out there was a manager there because he kept peeking around the corner at us! We stopped at Starvin' Marvins for dinner on our first night in Branson. From the roadside it looked appealing and had a fairly full parking lot. I wish I had checked the reviews first. 3 days later my husband still talks about how bad it was. After checking out the lackluster buffet, the husband ordered the shrimp po-boy. It literally fell apart with the first bite. The Dutch crunch type of bun disintegrated. It was either too stale or I'm not sure - but it was almost cracker like and became powdery chunks. The server said that she had never seen anything like it. I ordered the shrimp salad. I love Cajun, but not too hot. I asked the server and she said the boiled shrimp did have a little kick, so I took my chances. It had no Cajun flavor at all. The only spice was oddly from the honey mustard dressing I had on the side. Otherwise, it was a fresh basic salad. Our teen boys had the fried shrimp and fries which was good but average. Neither finished their meals which says something. The hostess was great and gave us a great trip to check out Presley's Country Jubilee for a show. (It was excellent). The server was nice and did a good job. With the exception of the po-boy, the portions were large but way overpriced. All these fools leaving 1 star reviews maybe try and order some fresh food off the menu and don't be cheap and take the $15 buffet scraps? The service is second to none- we sat down and had our drinks, appetizers, and entrees within 45 minutes tops- more like 30. Our waitress Nancy stopped by to make sure we had everything we need plenty of times, and was extremely kind and helpful with any questions we had. We had the coconut shrimp and blackened fish and it was AMAZING. We are from out of town and this was the only restaurant we ate at that wasn't disappointing. It was about $65 for two people and a LOT of food. 10/10 would recommend, truly unfortunate to see this place under 4 stars.
