This was, without question, one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had, and I travel frequently for work. I've been gluten-free for 16 years, and this ranks in my top five worst restaurants in the country. Let's start with simply finding the place. It's poorly marked and difficult to locate. Ironically, "Hidden" Pines is very accurate. There is essentially one small sign that vaguely points you toward the basement of a building. Not exactly an inviting first impression. When you walk in, you're greeted by darkness, and not in a cozy, upscale way. The decor feels random and neglected. There was a large Valentine's heart displayed, but the rest of the decorations were leftover Christmas decor. It was the day before Valentine's Day. How does a restaurant that's been closed for weeks still have Christmas decorations hanging? Ornaments were hanging from the ceiling throughout the dining room. Birch branches with pine stuck in them were scattered around. No artwork. No cohesive theme. The tables and chairs look like they were pulled from a 90s cabin motel auction, mismatched salt and pepper shakers included. The smell when we entered was burnt cooking oil. Despite all that, the reviews are glowing, especially about gluten free options, so we tried to stay optimistic. We ordered the fried mushrooms as an appetizer. They were the only thing that was even remotely okay. I ordered the black bean burger on a gluten free bun. The patties were so thin they gave me two, and both were burnt. The onions were cut into thick, chunky pieces, and the entire sandwich was completely flavorless. The green beans were also flavorless. Some were fresh, others were clearly on the brink of going bad. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles. Two tiny pieces of chicken on regular sized waffles. The bottom waffle was overcooked and dry. The top waffle was raw inside. The chicken had no seasoning or flavor. The potatoes and eggs were also bland. There seems to be a consistent pattern here. For a restaurant charging over $150 for steaks, you would expect some level of refinement. Instead, the music was loud and inappropriate for what they're trying to present as a fancy dining experience. If guests are spending that kind of money, why subject them to burnt oil smells and blaring music? The kitchen area visible from the dining room had exposed wires coming from the ceiling, mismatched blue tile, and even a random curtain hanging in the back. It looked unfinished and poorly maintained. On our way out, I stopped in the restroom. Unsurprisingly, it was filthy. The toilet and surrounding area were dirty, and the overall condition matched the rest of the experience. I truly do not understand how this restaurant has such high ratings. I would encourage anyone reading five-star reviews to check how many other restaurants those reviewers have actually reviewed. Many seem to have only reviewed Hidden Pines. Branson has many dining options. Until serious changes are made in cleanliness, food quality, and overall management, I would strongly recommend steering clear. read more

When we walked in around 3 p.m., the restaurant was completely empty--just us. It was dark inside, decorated for Halloween, and didn't feel welcoming. The hostess seated us, but the chairs were uncomfortable, even though the tables looked nice. The silverware looked cheap--like something from a dollar store. We started with queso and chips. The queso was actually very good--nice spice and homemade flavor--but the chips were mostly crumbs, like the bottom of the bag. Strike one. We shared a 14-oz steak and ordered a side salad. The steak arrived first, and when I asked about the salad, the server said she'd bring it. I mentioned salads usually come before the entrée, and she said, "Oh, sometimes we just bring them together." When it finally came, it was bland--just some greens, a little shaved cheese, and a few tomatoes, with no dressing--for $6. To their credit, the steak was excellent: tender, perfectly seasoned, and cooked just right. The garlic mashed potatoes and green beans were also very good. Unfortunately, the service didn't come close to matching the food quality. Our water glasses sat empty while the two servers wrapped silverware in napkins and chatted. With no other customers in the restaurant, that's just poor attention. The server spilled water while refilling our glasses and made no attempt to wipe it up, then placed the steak knife right in the puddle. Empty dishes stayed on the table long after we finished, and it took over 10 minutes after that to get the check. Adding to our concerns, I noticed one of the cooks step outside and then come back in still wearing his food-service gloves, using them to open the door. Hopefully, he changed them afterward--but it didn't look good. I honestly don't understand how this place has an average of about 4.5 stars over 500 reviews. The reviews do not line up with our experience--unless there's been a change in management. Overall, the steak deserves 3 1/2 to 4 stars, but everything else rates a 1. I will say when I called to make a reservation, they said they would have limited regular menu items. We got there today, and they said no. Starters: salad was just ok nothing special. Tomato " bisque " was not a bisque. I bet money it was Campbell's tomato soup. Entree: Don't put gravy on the turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing--offer it on the side. Stuffing was Stove Top. Mashed potatoes and turkey were bland even with gravy. Season your food! Ham was ok. Green beans were canned. Deviled eggs were ok. You get two, but one of mine was practically empty. Roll was pre-bought. I read this place was locally-owned, and they sourced food from local farms when possible. If you can't use a farm, at least make homemade food. First of all the Halloween decorations were really cool. Our waitress Shaniece (sorry if I butchered that) was awesome. Now to the rest of the story...came in at 5pm not crowded at all. Me and my husband ordered a ribeye, with green beans, grilled veggies, salad and potatoes. Ordered medium rare it was slightly over cooked but not terrible. The cut was good but could use more seasoning as could the green beans. The grilled veggies were good and it's hard to mess up a baked potato. We were disappointed there were no bread offerings. If you want to sneak just off the strip for a cool, trendy but relaxing meal, in a locally owned business, I highly recommend Summit Restaurant in Downtown Branson! I wish I had discovered it earlier. They have many, many delicious options but, this morning we went for brunch. Everyone was happy and friendly. Our server, Ellie H, bopped over to our table with a big smile and warm welcome. She answered all of our questions, gave advice on the menu choices and remained attentive during our meal. It was 11am and she informed us that everything on the menu was available to order and made fresh! We ordered the pancake breakfast which came with eggs, crispy hash browns and choice of breakfast meat (I selected bacon, of course!). We received 2 giant, fluffy sweet cream pancakes topped with fresh fruit (syrup on the side), and fluffy scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese (for a small upcharge). The bacon was cooked to perfection, done but chewy, with crisp edges for a satisfying crunch. The coffee was rich and dark and our water was arrived ice-cold, served in a frosty glass. This restaurant is hard to find. We found our selves in the sports bar. The nice bar tender told us where to go. Definitely some signage would help to point us in the right direction. The waffles were soggy and flavorless. The hash browns were a little greasy. The eggs and sausage were nothing special. I would give this restaurant a two. The wait staff is what gave it a three. Visited this restaurant on a Friday night at 7 p.m. and was surprised by how empty it was. Really wanted to like the food, however, the salt level and addition of cheese to everything just became a bit off-putting. Highlight of the night was the chicken and waffles. The bisque is rich and good, but again could've done without the cheese. Found on Yelp and glad I did. I think it's a couple that owns the place, which run the grill and manage the tables. Both were super nice and came out to talk to us, we were the first ones in for the day. Super nice and gave us awesome recommendations for some good places to go and other local diners to try out. The food was really good. It was really fresh, you can tell, and everything was delicious. They had everything for anyone, even for a picky eater and we had them. My stepmom and I had the chicken fried chicken. We both had the mashed potatoes, freshly smashed, but she had the side salad and I had the mac n cheese and both were awesome! My dad had the Swiss n Mushroom burger which was pretty sizable and the loaded fries. I swear he was licking the plate eating the fries, his only complaint was that there should've been more fries like double the size and it would be perfect. I'm still shaking my head at him. My stepbrother had the cappavenni noodles, which was the Mac n cheese, and a really good fruit cup. First off Service was great. The waitstaff did everything they could to make sure we were cared for. I ordered a sirloin medium rare, what I received was very medium well. The manager tried to talk me out of receiving a replacement. This is never a good sign, it's argumentative with a customer. He claimed they cooked according to temperature and not color. Two others ordered the exact same and theirs were fine. I've owned and ran a restaurant, you must realize that temperature will continue to rise after it's removed from the heat source. They obviously didn't and he was NOT happy that I insisted. What I was brought as a replacement was cooked properly but they chose the worst steak, full of gristle and mostly unable to be chewed at all. The food was OK, the restaurant was very non-descript, nothing interesting. Looks like a former nightclub that was not remodeled. Food was just average, I got the BLTE UT only had a couple of strips bacon, taste was covered by the other ingredients. The lettuce was sprung mix, in my opinion iceberg or romaine is better for BLT of any kind, it's not limp and holds up to the other ingredients. Vert hard to figure out where the door was, we had to park up the hill, walk down the hill (we can't do stairs due to being handicapped), then back up a short distance and reverse on the way out. Summit restaurant is not quite ready for prime time. Tries to be an upscale restaurant but still learning to fly. Our onion ring appetizer ($12) was very good however the rest of the food was lacking. BLT sandwich ($12) literally had 1 1/2 slices of bacon, otherwise would have been very good. Mac n cheese side ($2 upcharge) came well after plate was served and sauce was runny. Fried chicken sandwich ($14) had crust fall off meat after first bite. Fried fish ($16) was good but had places where it had no batter so meat was fried and tough. Green beans were sautéed but had raw taste and no hint of seasoning. The food is amazing. we had filets and they were cooked perfect and the flavor was awesome. My husband always asks for steak sauce and it never even crossed his mind this time. I am a very picky steak person coming from Nebraska corn fed cows. I loved this steak! The veggies were delicious and the fried mushrooms and onion rings were better than Other places we have been. The waitress was never standing around, very sweet and always smiling. If we had to gove some constructive criticism the Mac and cheese was underdone but the flavor was wonderful, and drink order sooner than later. ;) To The staff...bravo! I don't usually write reviews but this is one of the worst restaurants I have ever eaten at. We started with $14 Bruschetta that was basically just bread with melted mozzarella cheese on it sprinkled with a few tomato pieces. I got a Club Sandwich that had no ham on it as stated on menu/website. It was a $16 Turkey sandwich that I could have made better at my house. The avocado toast was laughable. I wouldn't even call it avocado toast as there was barely any avocado used on the bread. Extremely expensive for what we ordered. We should have turned around when no one else was in the restaurant. I would not recommend this to anyone. Also the manager defends bad reviews and blames the customers, which is embarrassing. Go anywhere else and save your money. Management do better. read more

Our food was all SO FRESH and delicious!! There was only one other table sat when we were there so we didn't know how fresh it was going to be, but this place is a hidden gem! I got the spinach strawberry pecan salad and it was one of the best salads I've had! So so fresh, and the chef was great at subbing things out on our order and accommodating to our children's wants. We pulled into the parking lot on a Friday evening and my wife said she was really excited to try this place. We walked in with some friends and were shocked that there were probably only 10 people eating there. We sat down and ordered a few drinks, a few appetizers, side salads, two Ribeye's and two Filets averaging about $35 apiece. While waiting a while for our drinks, we noticed there were only 3 staff members working and made a comment amongst ourselves that this looked nothing like we saw online. About 10 minutes later, the waitress came back and said they were out of Filets and asked if we could substitute for two Sirloins which we agreed to. After waiting for 20 minutes, my wife asked if the appetizers were coming out soon. After another 5 minutes, the waitress came back and said she forgot to put the appetizers in but our food would be out shortly. She apologized and said they were still trying to get things in order because they had only been open for 7 months!! When the food finally came out the waitress put them all at the end of the table and shoved them to the center. We had to take the plates and give them to each other. The steaks looked terrible and were soaked in a bowl of some kind of broth. The Ribeye's had ZERO marbling and the Sirloins looked dry on top of the broth. We looked at our "bowls" and salads with question marks in our eyes. We had to ask where the salad dressing was and the waitress looked puzzled and brought them out as a side. We all ate about half of our dry steaks and visited for a while. We gathered up all our plates and stacked them for our waitress and when she came to get them, she said thanks for stacking the plates because they were worried about getting everything done in "time". This puzzled us and we all remarked that we had never heard that from any other restaurants we had been to. About 10 minutes before closing, the waitress came out and said we needed to finish up because they were closing soon. We quickly finished our last drinks, but before we could finish them a guy came out and rudely said we needed to leave in 3 minutes because they were turning off the lights. I told him we were leaving and that he didn't need to be rude. He came back to the table and asked what I said, so I repeated myself that there was no reason to be rude and also told him we would probably not be back. He responded with 'good'!! It was definitely a crazy experience and the food was just as bad. There are several good food options in Branson, so please do yourself a favor and avoid this place and save $300. read more

The food has absolutely no seasoning. Presentation is definitely a 10 taste is another story. If you are used to salt and pepper this is not the place for you. The person who greeted us was very nice our service was terrible. The waitress brought us drinks that were flat my husband brought it to her attention and asked for another and apparently this was an issue because she decided to talk to the cook about us to the point where I could hear them complaining about us asking for new drinks. Absolutely appalling! Then to top it off she asks us if we'd like drinks to go I say yes and she brings me what's supposed to be a Dr Pepper but is the color of a Sprite. I tip 20% as a minimum and was livid when I got to the condo and noticed a 25% tip had already been added to our bill without notice due to having a party of 6.
