The coffee was made JUST RIGHT, I didn't feel the need to splurge for a latte. Both of our orders were delicious. My boyfriend got the "pile up" and I will tell you, that their gravy was top notch. They did have a nice area to sit upstairs though the pool table upstairs didn't contain the ball rack and the table was incredibly dirty/unmaintained. Moving onto the service. We were told to sit anywhere and someone would come and check on us, it was several minutes before someone came to check what we wanted with little to no business going on. However they were nice so that was a nice plus. The pricing for this place is a little overpriced for the simple food menu they have. We paid 10 dollars for chips and queso and the serving size that was on the platter was barely enough to feed us both. Our main entrees were easily 15 dollars a plate and not to mention that it took quite a lot of time for everything to come out. The overall taste of the food/drinks were very disappointing. My Dr Pepper was extremely flat no matter a refill or not, the chips were stale, and the queso tasted like fake cheese (only cheese I can compare it to is lunchables). My chicken sandwich I ordered was incredibly subpar: especially since when I pay 15 dollars for a sandwich I want a patty and not two chicken tenders plastered on a bun. It does take them a little time to get through service so make sure you have a little time to wait. They serve 2 types of bread with bread service and 3 different butters alongside those. Inside, we were handed a pager and told we may have a 20-minute wait. A very kind and pleasant young Black man readily offered up his seat to older patrons, spoke kindly, and did so at least twice. The wait was short. A kind, smiling young waitress took our initial order, and soon hot food began to arrive, even though the place was packed. A nice touch was the live solo country musician performing. I ordered fried green tomatoes, and my wife had the catfish basket. As I looked around, the helpings were large. No way I could eat all that! I noticed on Yelp that one could order the fish half size. Water and lemonade round out the entree. The fried green tomatoes were battered, flaky, and cooked well. But after eating a few, it was too oily. The catfish was done well but was too salty, as were the hush puppies. I've never drunk toilet water, but if I had, it surely would taste like the water I drank. No thanks. The water tasted bad even with the lemon. The restaurant didn't make the water. However, it desperately needs a filter--cudos to the kitchen and servers for plating and serving the food nice and hot. Now the bill. I noticed a 3.5% surcharge if you used a card. I was also shocked to find an additional charge of 1.99 because, according to the receipt, I was over 12 years old ordering a kids' meal. Wait, what! Less food, but an upcharge? Then another upcharge for substituting onion rings for fries. Now my final takeaway. I always ask myself, would I return for more? No, I would not. I try to judge the food first because there are "hole-in-the-wall" places that serve great food. Was the food seasoned? The food was, but when the salt is the main thing that stands out, it's just too salty. If so, what are you trying to hide? Last, they didn't even question whether we wanted dessert from the menu: just a smile and a goodbye from the waitress. I left a nice tip for the service and went on my way.
