My wife and I had high hopes for Local Flavor based on the reviews. We were met at the hostess stand with a sign that implied that the food may take a while and if you want fast food to go to McDonald's. There were several other signs inside that set that same tone. One that read complaint department 200 miles and so on. To me, it sets a negative tone that says don't complain and if you don't like the food, you are wrong. We were sat immediately with no wait. The server was lovely and got our drinks right away. We ordered fried okra and fried jalapeños for appetizers. The fried okra was excellent and the jalapeños were just ok. They were both very large portions. Enough for four to six. I ordered the fried fish dinner and my wife ordered the country fried steak dinner. The catfish was fresh but very salty. Even the hush puppies were saltier than they should be. The country fried steak was not tender and too chewy to eat. The corn with cream cheese was just plain not good. Flavors were off. When the server asked how the food was, we were like, "it's fine". We knew that saying otherwise would not be appreciated. Once finished with the entrees, we were presented with a bill. We were not offered dessert or a dessert menu. We thought that it was odd that there were no dessert options here. We paid our bill which had a 3% service charge for credit cards. I knew it was coming but I still don't love this shift in the industry. I wish places would give discounts for cash instead. All and all a disappointing experience and we will not come back. read more

A true gem in Branson. Good homestyle cooking, friendly staff, live entertainment, and an atmosphere....well, think of Cracker Barrel, but without being "corporate". We had the chicken fried steak and the pork tenderloin. Both were melt-in-your-mouth! The fried okra was about the best my wife has ever had. Even the sweet tea was good, and served in a cup large enough that you didn't have to keep looking for refills. We'll definitely be back! read more

The food at Local Flavor has a classic home cooked appeal. It didn't wow me the way I expected from the hype of the reviews but as someone from Southern California, I may not the best judge of the Southern food served here. That said, the portions are generous, the staff is friendly, and I'd recommend it for the casual, welcoming vibe. read more

Local Flavor, Branson, MO, was recommended to me from a local person. Interesting restaurant that focus on southern foods. Many are fried. The onion rings were extremely good. Buy them if you go there. I am happy I ordered a mixed salad with baked chicken strips. My wife ordered fried green tomatoes but hardly ate any. I tried one but it had a heavy oil taste. The restaurant was crowded with eaters. Southern food here which has many fried selections. We rarely eat fried foods except French fries. No knock on Local's, fried foods are not our style. They do have great looking hamburgers. I noticed many were eaten by the crowd. Waitress was excellent. Very attentive. Our meals came out quick. Neat southern ambiance. Plenty of parking. Delicious home-cooked food on the main strip in Branson. I had a chef salad made with their fried chicken bites. That chicken is the best I've tasted, flavorful and tender. I also enjoyed a side of onion straws, which were crispy and not greasy at all. A side is plenty for people to share. I'm looking forward to visiting again and trying something new. read more

We came here today for dinner. We called for reservations and when got there got seated right away. Place was crowded and there was a live singer. I got fish plate- everything was tasty except the hash puppies. Husband got the carnivore burger and said it was very flavorful, but was not fan of the fries. Kid 1 got grilled cheese and said it was good. k Kid 2 got cheeseburger, but let's be honest, she just wanted the fries and enjoyed those very much. Our server was lovely and very helpful. read more

This place was phenomenal! We've been to Branson twice as a family and, to be honest, I haven't been super impressed with the food. Tons of options but nothing really tasty. Until tonight! We called tonight to see if they could fit in our party of 12. She told us she could get us in in an hour and a half (pretty darn impressive), but she called back about 20 minutes later and said she could get us right in! They sat our crew of crazy kids and crazy adults immediately and the friendliness of the staff and the quaintness of the decor and live music, we knew we were in for a treat. We got a ton of food -- apps, entrees, and desserts -- and everything was absolutely delicious. Fried green tomatoes were our favorite. The staff was also SUPER attentive, food came out fast and correctly, and they kept us happy the whole time. Would recommend this place to anyone. We'll be back! read more

We love down home local restaurants. This place is all that plus music! The true Branson experience because you get to listen to a live musician while you eat some of the best home cooking. We had calf fries and fried green tomatoes. Both were excellent. The menu is extensive so there is something for everyone. The staff is very friendly. We didn't have to wait to be seated but if we had needed to wait, there is corn hole, ring game and other games to keep you busy. The place is good for all ages. We loved 'Local Flavor' and are so glad we stumbled across it! We ate at a nearby restaurant the day prior and struggled to eat the meal. We're worried this would be another tourist trap with frozen food. Completely the opposite! We immediately loved the vibe by just looking at their outdoor/indoor signs. They definitely have a sense of humor with a side of sarcasm and we loved it! The atmosphere was nice - very homey. The owner was working the host stand and all over the walls and napkin holders are family pictures and drawings from (presumed grandkids). You immediately feel like you're being welcoming into someone's home in the best way. Service was great and the food was even better! We got 3 chicken fried steaks and they were hand breaded with lots of flavor. The cream corn was delicious! We ended with the cheesecake which was similar to how I would imagine a cheesecake pie. It was SO GOOD! We are big cheesecake fans and while this was different than expected, we loved it! Just finished dining at Local Flavor and it was extremely good. All the servers were so pleasant and seemed to enjoy being there! We had the jelly fried Brussel sprouts and tenderloin diner with mashed potatoes and gravy which were perfect. On top of all that the atmosphere of this place was so well done and gives you an "at home" feeling! Lastly we called over Michelle, the owner, to let her know how pleasant everything was and now we know why her employees, food and atmosphere were so good because they resemble her. Great job!!! The waitress was very nice, food was good and plentiful, however, the waitress failed to notify us of the added charges of splitting a plate and using your CC. Also, it automatically added the tip to the charges and we always tip in cash and woukd not have tipped as large due to the undisclosed charges. read more

We had such a great experience here! The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the servers were so friendly. The atmosphere was relaxing, and the live singer taking requests made the evening extra fun. It happened to be my son's birthday, and the singer even did a "short", version of "Happy Birthday." There were eight of us, and we were seated quickly. The menu offered a wide variety of options. I noticed a sign about the "worst salad ever," and while it made me hesitate for a second, the story behind it was hilarious--and the salad I ordered was actually pretty darn good! This was recommended to me by a friend. I loved the atmosphere and was pleasantly surprised a singer was performing easy listening country songs. Food was excellent! Chicken fried chicken sandwich with french fries was so tender you scarcely head to chew!!! Ok that is an exaggeration, but it was incredible. The french fries were to be bragged about too. -Soft on the inside nice crisp crunchy bite on the outside! We also ordered the Ozark Carnivore Fries...as a meal. They are fries topped with ground bison, elk, wild, boar, and beef, then white queso and pickled jalapeños. The was a huge serving we barely made a dent. Delicious... NOT "gamey"... I am not usually to fond of bison, elk, or wild anything. The French fries even held under the load... meaning they were cooked well to hold the crunch. ... eventually they got soft. But they were great. Highly recommend. Seriously wish we had stopped here sooner so we could come try more on the menu. read more
