We went through 3/4 of the taplist, and only one beer was available. What is the point of giving your customers a tap list when none of the taps are available? Nope. We came here on a Friday night and it was not very crowded. We were seated right away and waited about fifteen minutes for a waitress to come. The food all looked wonderful by picture and description on the menu, but was mediocre when delivered. The fried green tomatoes were the star of the show for us. Everything else was not very flavorful. The macaroni and cheese was just not good. My toddler wouldn't touch it and after a taste on my own plate I quickly could see why. It is more like a flavorless mush. We had asked for condiments after our food came that never were delivered and we waited a very long time again for boxes and a bill. We had to ask other staff to find our waitress at the end. Again, not very crowded and we waited significant time periods between service. Between the service and the food this is a spot I would totally skip for a meal if visiting Branson. read more

Hero's Family Restaurant is themed on first responders & military (past present and future)! Gotta love a theme like that! Our poor waitress was awesome, she kept our drinks filled while we waited and waited for our food. My husband ordered the nachos made with crispy wontons, he said the wontons were so salty they were inedible and the meat on them had no flavor. Our poor waitress Tasher was able to get them taken off our bill. I was so looking forward to the fried green tomato BLT, because I had one in Florida at a small restaurant in the spring, that was so good, this one was super disappointing, instead of toasting the bread it was very thick cut bread that was fried on the grill top, which made it greasy and inedible, our neighbors across the way said the onion rings were awful too, I will say in their defense that the kitchen was short staffed, but the cooks that they had must have been super overwhelmed and has no heart to cook appetizing food. Great service. A ton of seats and parking. Old style restaurant with homey feel and decor. Lots of photos of police officers environment and other heroes. I had Grandma's catfish and my partner had the professors fish. Mine was lightly dusted and fried to perfection. The coleslaw was the surprise as It tastes like it has some type of seafood in it. The Mac & cheese tasted baked instead of just creamy wet. And we both ate with the side salad and soda for $50. Ate here with a group of about 8 that were in town for a weekend. Some in the group wanted a steak and this place was chosen. Seated quickly and service arrived in a timely manner. I don't recall what everyone had. I had a mushroom Swiss burger with fries. I have to day it was pretty good. Fries crisp and tasty, burger had a good amount of mushrooms on top of the burger. Some of our group ate appetizers, others had a burger. This place, on that Saturday evening, offered 2 steak options. One was a NY Strip, the other choice was a 12 oz. ribeye for a price of around $42. When the steak was set down in front of the person who ordered it, it did not look like a $42 steak. I've seen thicker breakfast steaks. There was a lot of gristle in it, our friend had trouble cutting it because it wasn't tender. In the end about half was edible. One person didn't get their vegetable side. All in all it was kind of a letdown. read more

The kids shared the chicken strips meal with mac and cheese and fries. Their dishes were all really good. I had a side salad with honey mustard. It was fresh and simple. My husband got a hero sandwich and it was very small. The flavor was fine but not amazing. We got potatoes with it and those are really good. Our friends with us enjoyed the fish and it was a ton of food but didn't like the strawberry salad at all. Yelp reviews were just okay, but the only reason we chose this restaurant was because it was right across from the theater we had tickets for. Service wasn't terrible, the food wasn't terrible and the dining room wasn't terrible. But, nothing really stood out. I'm not sure how management is supposed to contend with the roller coaster of traffic (the inevitable deluges), given there must be a lot of other patrons with the same strategy for dinner that we had. We definitely arrived in the middle of high traffic, so patience was necessary. I ordered the strawberry salad with shrimp, which was pretty good. I liked the ranch dressing a lot (instead of the vinaigrette that is standard). Staff really tried, no doubt. Everything was great, the waitress was extremely friendly and the manager, who we later meet, went out of his way to make our visit special. The way they give tribute to Military and Public Service workers is really admirable and makes for really great and humbling ambiance. Dereck was our server and he was really friendly. I had the shrimp and roasted brussell sprouts which was very good and my kids had the wings which they enjoyed. We were all pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality of the food and I say this because the ambiance is a little off putting. When we walked in, I almost walked right back out. My family and I had an all around great experience at Heros this evening. We were scrambling to find a dinner spot before our show. For our entrees we ordered the 5-Alarm Ozark Hot, and Anchors Aweigh Shrimp and Grits. Both completely blew us away! The 5-Alarm was the perfect balance of sweet and savory, while the shrimp and grits were perfectly cheesy and paired with a delicious sweet sauce.
