    onion rings
    Ashley S.

We stopped by here for lunch while in town, 3/5 stars. The onion rings and ranch were honestly the best part of the meal, both were really good. The rest of the food was a little over seasoned for our taste and kind of took away from it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Atmosphere was decent overall, but the food was hit or miss for us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Hero's Family Restaurant is themed on first responders & military (past present and future)! Gotta love a theme like that![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The sign out front grabbed our attention when it said "best onion rings in Missouri" & they weren't kidding! Get them! Drinks were good, tap selection was great! Flight of 4 surprise taps was great! Our waitress Faren was amazing and helped us with our questions and deciding what we wanted. So glad we stopped here and had some drinks and grub!

Brittaney was a phenomenal bar tender! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe was chill, but nice still.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food... yall! Don't skip the fried green tomatoes... you'll order another round. The onion rings were good. Fresh!! And the fish and chips on point. Now, the nachos.... MUST HAVE. Try the beer flights, too!

Fried green tomato BLT with fries and nachos

Our poor waitress was awesome, she kept our drinks filled while we waited and waited for our food. My husband ordered the nachos made with crispy wontons, he said the wontons were so salty they were inedible and the meat on them had no flavor. Our poor waitress Tasher was able to get them taken off our bill. I was so looking forward to the fried green tomato BLT, because I had one in Florida at a small restaurant in the spring, that was so good, this one was super disappointing, instead of toasting the bread it was very thick cut bread that was fried on the grill top, which made it greasy and inedible, our neighbors across the way said the onion rings were awful too, I will say in their defense that the kitchen was short staffed, but the cooks that they had must have been super overwhelmed and has no heart to cook appetizing food. Save yourself the trouble.

Service was fast and loaded wanton nachos were GREAT!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great atmosphere for dinner![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will definitely get again!

Great service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A ton of seats and parking.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Old style restaurant with homey feel and decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lots of photos of police officers environment and other heroes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had Grandma's catfish and my partner had the professors fish. Mine was lightly dusted and fried to perfection. The coleslaw was the surprise as It tastes like it has some type of seafood in it. The Mac & cheese tasted baked instead of just creamy wet. And we both ate with the side salad and soda for $50. Good prices good food and nicely located in a touristy area with lots to do and see within walking distance.

Strawberry salad with very good ranch dressing (instead of the vinaigrette)
    Annette R.

Yelp reviews were just okay, but the only reason we chose this restaurant was because it was right across from the theater we had tickets for. Service wasn't terrible, the food wasn't terrible and the dining room wasn't terrible. But, nothing really stood out. I'm not sure how management is supposed to contend with the roller coaster of traffic (the inevitable deluges), given there must be a lot of other patrons with the same strategy for dinner that we had. We definitely arrived in the middle of high traffic, so patience was necessary. I ordered the strawberry salad with shrimp, which was pretty good. I liked the ranch dressing a lot (instead of the vinaigrette that is standard). Staff really tried, no doubt. I'm not sure if we would return, but we probably would at a time that wasn't so busy.

    House margarita was great!

The food and margaritas are very good! Will definitely stop back by when we come back to Branson.

Jim eating his delicious Reuben sandwich and great fried onion rings!

One of my favorite sandwiches is a Reuben sandwich. My Hero's Reuben was delicious. My wife had fried cod fish. She liked hers. Service was great.

The staff are students working to pay for their college tuition so the service was great! The food was good (most ingredients on site also made by students) portions were huge, the price was decent, place was clean and much better then any touristy type restaurant near or on the strip, so much so we came here for dinner 2 nights in a row. The students are so interactive if you ask them questions and they also have the place they are from on their name tags which can be conversation starters. It does take them a little time to get through service so make sure you have a little time to wait. They serve 2 types of bread with bread service and 3 different butters alongside those. The apple butter was delicious. The first night I had the meatloaf which was very good. The second night I had their special for the night which was a stuffed chicken with spinach and cheese, vinegar potatoes and some mixed veggie side that was delicious. There is also a store area where you can buy student made items to take home with you. I wish we had a program like this near us because we would support it frequently. Definitely make reservations and give this place a try.

We settled on a fried pork tenderloin and a single burger. The food was excellent, freshly prepared, and piping hot upon arrival. The staff was very helpful and attentive. You order at the counter and take your number to the table and the kitchen delivers it in a very reasonable time. The drinks are self-serve but members of the staff asked if I'd like a refill and did the running for me. They even brought me a "to-go" cup when we finished our meal. It was very comfortable and quiet during our visit but with a full dining room it has the potential to be a bit noisier. With a live band, it could be more than a bit louder. Tips: Head to the back and browse the vendor booths on the way. Expect to make some compromise decisions. You can't eat everything at one visit. On the way out buy something and support a local vendor. The building's purpose to give local vendors a place to sell. No vendors will cause the grill's rent to skyrocket.

I recently returned a year after the first visit, and it hasn't changed a bit. The menu is extensive insofar as classic American fare is concerned, but this isn't the kind of place you'll find 4 clever variations on Eggs Benedict. Anything named after Benedict Arnold has no place in the Ozarks. A year ago, I ordered a western omelet, which commanded my attention and exertions for the better part of 20 minutes. The portions are definitely generous - the pancakes are the size of pizzas. If you're on Ozempic, either skip this place or confine yourself to a single slice of wheat toast. Some gals in the group demurely ordered half portions of biscuits and gravy, thinking a dainty portion would show dedication to preserving their girlish figures. These "half portions" filled the entire (largish) plate. I made a mental note to opt for this on any future visit, and that future arrived this week. Biscuits were country-good, and the gravy was substantial, not that watery stuff that is sometimes drizzled on Pillsbury-from-the-tube biscuits. If you're in Branson, head a little south of the dam to Hungry Hunter. Get there early, because this place is deservedly popular and there will probably be a wait. And the parking can be a bit contentious. It's not open on Monday or Tuesday.

There was something off-putting about the CFS. I didn't care for the coating or the gravy. I'd give it a 2/5. My stepmom gave it a 4/5. Her tastebuds are broken. My dad enjoyed his omelette and said the veggies were lightly sautéed and not greasy. The service was good. The wait was not worth the taste of the CFS, but honestly, 0 minutes of waiting is not worth the CFS. I typically love CFS, but in this case, I wish I had tried the French toast instead.
