Inside, we were handed a pager and told we may have a 20-minute wait. A very kind and pleasant young Black man readily offered up his seat to older patrons, spoke kindly, and did so at least twice. The wait was short. A kind, smiling young waitress took our initial order, and soon hot food began to arrive, even though the place was packed. A nice touch was the live solo country musician performing. I ordered fried green tomatoes, and my wife had the catfish basket. As I looked around, the helpings were large. No way I could eat all that! I noticed on Yelp that one could order the fish half size. Water and lemonade round out the entree. The fried green tomatoes were battered, flaky, and cooked well. But after eating a few, it was too oily. The catfish was done well but was too salty, as were the hush puppies. I've never drunk toilet water, but if I had, it surely would taste like the water I drank. No thanks. The water tasted bad even with the lemon. The restaurant didn't make the water. However, it desperately needs a filter--cudos to the kitchen and servers for plating and serving the food nice and hot. Now the bill. I noticed a 3.5% surcharge if you used a card. I was also shocked to find an additional charge of 1.99 because, according to the receipt, I was over 12 years old ordering a kids' meal. Wait, what! Less food, but an upcharge? Then another upcharge for substituting onion rings for fries. Now my final takeaway. I always ask myself, would I return for more? No, I would not. I try to judge the food first because there are "hole-in-the-wall" places that serve great food. Was the food seasoned? The food was, but when the salt is the main thing that stands out, it's just too salty. If so, what are you trying to hide? Baja Bowl seemed like a great choice, but it normally comes with roasted pork. For $5 more, I got it with salmon. Fish was fresh and nicely charred, but a tad overcooked. Brown rice, charred corn, black beans, pico de gallo, and all the pickings made it a hearty choice. My daughter got the Full Rack of St. Louis-Style Ribs for $32.95. Half Rack of Ribs were $28.95. Why not get the full rack for $4 more? It's a no brainer. Glad we did because we had ribs for breakfast the next morning. She liked the ribs, but unfortunately, they weren't falling off the bones type ribs. This was my first time trying St. Louis-Style ribs. It wasn't bad. Though the rub was a bit vinegary for me. The cheese sauce is absolutely worse than taco bell even. Honestly, just save your money and go to taco bell. The best part of all the dishes? The pickles that came on top of the cheeseburger nachos. Also, all their signature sauces were bad. Donkey was plain(taste like mayo), ranch tasted like garlic aoli(what the donkey was trying to be), spicy ketchup? Don't make me laugh. Bbq sauce? Again no flavor. For these reasons, I say skip it. My 12 son said to give this place half a star so I'm being generous.
