We came here a couple of times but this was the first time I actually ate here with my family because we didn't have our four legged family member with us on this trip to celebrate my wife's parent's 60th anniversary. We had a party of 24 and was seated reasonably quick. Hostess was great and the waiter and waitress serving our tables were friendly and professional. An added plus was they could really sing and knew how to get the crowd involved. The atmosphere and decor was consistent with a 50s to early 70s hamburger joint. Food wasn't spectacular but you are really coming for the unique atmosphere and free (and enjoyable) entertainment. Food wasn't spectacular good and consistent with an early American hamburger joint. Bathroom was reasonably clean especially for how busy this place is. Overall cleanliness was good. Wait staff is very good. If you are visiting or just passing through Branson and want a quick meal, give this place a shot. I really don't think anyone with reasonable expectations will be disappointed in the food and atmosphere. First, the staff were great. The atmosphere was fun, and the singing waitresses were awesome. The food, however, left a whole lot to be desired. My wife's catfish was hot. Both our fries were cold. That was a shame, because they were crispy and good looking. My chili burger was cold as well. The burger itself wasn't great, however the chili wasn't bad. WOW! This was easily the biggest food regret of our Branson trip in 2026. We visited Mel's on a recommendation from a neighbor back home. Sadly, the food did not live up to the hype. First, it was the most expensive meal our family of 4 had for the entire week in Branson. (2 adults, 2 kids) I normally don't mention price in my reviews unless there is a huge discrepancy in cost to value but this place is certainly way overpriced for the QUALITY and quantity of food you get. It also appears from doing a little research that they either change prices based on the season, or that prices have changed dramatically as of very recent. Lucky for us, it seems we went when prices were the most inflated. App. We ordered the cheese sticks based on the suggestion of our server. He claimed they were his favorite app. While this may be true for him, they were just standard frozen deep fried fare for $11 and 2 ice cold cups of Heinz marinara. Burgers. The burgers are nothing more than pre-frozen, pre-shaped patties you find at your local grocery store, but more than likely even cheaper quality provided by Gordon or US foods in bulk at a fraction of the cost. How do I know this? Just taste one and you'll recognize that undisguisable pre frozen taste, not to mention the non circular shape of the patties which is a huge giveaway. Now I would understand this if they were selling them at $6 or even $8 but at $16+ I fully expect FRESH ground beef cooked on a flat top like diners are known for. If the fast food guys like Culvers, Steak n shake, 5 Guys, and Freddy's can do this to order and for cheaper why can't Mel's? Then atop this overpriced frozen patty was an actual cold bun, like one that had been in the freezer and not quite defrosted all the way yet. The fries were bland and barely warm, and many of the smaller ones were overcooked and hard. The chicken tenders my son got (he ordered these from the adult menu) were the exact ones we have all had before, reminiscent of a hospital cafeteria offering or other frozen carnival food cart tenders. And my daughters kids grilled cheese was dry and almost inedible. To top it all off both of my kids got shakes and both were served in tiny cups that were an additional 4.99 each. Even totaling all this up by looking at the current menu posted on Mel's website I still don't know how we spent over $100 (with 20% tip) for lunch here. Only thing that gets me close is if they charged us for for drinks AND shakes for the kids, or if they charged the full $10 each for the kids shakes even though they were supposed to be the kid sized ones at 4.99. Now the GOOD... The service was honestly really good, other than we had to ask for the kids shakes twice because they kept forgetting them. The singing was good too, and one female singer in particular was phenomenal! That being said I understand that part of what your paying for is the entertainment, but I still feel that the food should be of better quality for the asking price. Looking over some of the other reviews too, there seems to be a lot of room for improvement on this. Bottom line: Mel's is a pass for me in the future. The only exception is if I was staying at a hotel within walking distance and had a craving for a shake, float, or sundae. But even then I don't believe it would be worth the money. $50 (with tax) for 4 shakes or floats? No thanks! read more

The vegetable soup was good, but maybe came from a can. The chicken salad had grapes & other bits of goodness. The grilled cheese was crispy on the outside & gooey on the inside. I found this and added it to our "to do" list while in Branson and I'm glad we were able to stop in. I had forgotten that the servers are also singers and walk around singing old tones to everyone, how fun! Menu was large and had something to please everyone, prices are fair and portions are HUGE. My husband got a Reuben (of course) with fries and I chose a Chicken Salad Sandwich with fries on a croissant. The croissant wasn't very good (fresh) and the chicken salad was OK. His Reuben was delicious. Fries were good. Shakes and sundaes looked amazing and also huge. Service was wonderful and friendly and prompt and the singing was so fun! If you are looking for an old fashioned, classic diner type of atmosphere, then you're in the right place. When you first walk into this restaurant you are warned that it will be loud. Honestly, it's no louder than if you went to a sports bar like Buffalo Wild Wings or Roosters. The service was excellent and as a plus the waitstaff will take turns singing different songs. The menu is decent but limited at the same time. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre at best. I ordered the smoke in my eyes burger and it was decent but nothing to write home about. My daughter ordered the spaghetti and said it wasn't good. My son did enjoy the fries and jalapeno poppers so that was a plus. My husband said that he would've rather had a cheeseburger from McDonald's and that is saying something. Overall, I hate to say it but it's not worth the price you pay for the food. read more

I got a plain ole grilled chicken sandwich, which was very good, but doesn't really let them show off. I also got the veggie of the day instead of fries, trying to be healthy. Big mistake. Get the fries. They're SO good. Breaded. I love them. Fortunately, my son got the patty melt and fries (a total classic!), so I got some. Yum! My wife got the grilled chicken salad, but wanted more protein (she's whole 30). So she asked if they would put the chef salad toppings (ham, turkey, and bacon) on her salad too for an upcharge. I cringed, figuring they would charge her a fortune for adding a few tiny pieces of meat. But instead, they added like a half pound of meat for $3. Amazing! Check out the picture. My wife said it was the best salad she's ever had. Nice! And then my son and I split a 2 scoop sundae. You choose your ice cream flavor and topping(s). It's $9 for one scoop and $10 for two, so a double scoop is the obvious choice on SO many levels. Their ice cream is extremely high quality and delicious, and their scoops are huge! I just wish there were more plentiful toppings, but realistically, the old fashioned ice cream sundae bowls are pretty vertical, so not much room for the toppings to stay on there. Today's flavor of the day was mint chocolate chip, and it was incredible. All up, another amazing can-barely-walk experience at Mel's. This is an amazing place. The waiters staff are singing waiters and waitresses. they are amazing. I ordered a regular cheese burger and Onion Rings. The food was ok but not the best I have had. My burger tasted like it had no seasoning and the bun was one that as you held it crumbled. The taste was not bad at all it was just bland. The onion rings were good I did enjoy them. The gimmick is the singing servers... and I think we heard 4 or 5 songs during our stay. Many classical anthems, but they snuck in a contemporary pop song too - which I think was great. The singers definitely have talent! I ordered the chili burger (no cheese). The patty was reminiscent of a Salisbury steak in terms of consistency. Please forgive me, but I do enjoy a Salisbury steak. I'm horrible, I get it. Also, I have a soft spot for battered fries. The portions are reasonable, maybe a touch on the lighter side. You exit through the gift shop with more CDs of your singing servers. It really feels like these artists are working their way until they make it big. Our group of 31 stopped at the shopping center to shop and enjoy lunch. We ran into a few locals that were waiting for the diner to open and reported to us that Mel's is a favorite for many years with singing waiters and waitresses. This was the most fun and delicious meal we've had during our several day stay in Branson. The singing wait stay were amazing and the food too. I ordered the most delicious chicken salad which had grapes, pecans and celery along with a side of mandarin oranges and crackers. My husband's banana split is the largest I've ever laid my eyes on and so delicious. So large that my husband said, "let's share". All the fresh ingredients with a whipped marshmallow topping. This place gets an A+ in atmosphere and service! The wait staff are delightful and the decor and ambiance (with the singing) provide plenty of family-friendly cheer! We patronized this diner based upon a recommendation from a guide from the Titanic museum nearby. Otherwise, I don't think we would've found this place as it is kind of tucked away amidst the chaos of Branson's many attractions. In my opinion, the food, in terms of quality/flavor, is very average diner food. I've had some really good diner food but this would not be one of those occasions. My wife and I both had cheesesteak hoagies with onion rings. While the flavor won't necessarily make your tastebuds sing, the portion sizes are huge! You definitely won't leave hungry. See pictures. I also got a slice of carrot cake to-go, which came with vanilla ice cream. Again, portion sizes of both the cake and the ice cream were very generous. However, again, the flavor was just not there. The cake specifically was mostly carrot cake-flavored batter, and did not contain any of the ingredients you expect in a carrot cake with the exception of random pieces of nuts. Mel's was our first restaurant in Branson. We entered and already heard one of the servers singing. These servers are seriously talented. The service was great, but the food was even better. We decided to save room for desert and OMG the decision was right. We ordered the Kookie! And there was over a pint of chocolate and a pint of vanilla with two chocolate chips cookies.
