Cakes & Creams in Branson is such a fun little treat stop if you're in town and want really yummy dessert. It has that classic vacation town feeling where getting ice cream just feels like part of the whole trip. Plus they have funnel cake and how can you not stop for funnel cake?! Great spot to cool off after walking around all day too! They have a lot of options, so it's easy to find something that sounds good whether you want pizza, hot dogs, a burger, ice cream, cake, or something extra sweet. Portions were generous in traditional diner fashion, everything was delish as well! Inside can get busy, especially during peak tourist times when we were there, so expect a little chaos and line movement going slow depending when you go. Went to Cakes-n-Creams 50's Diner in Branson over spring break, and this place was absolutely packed--hardly a table in sight. It definitely has that busy, touristy energy, and it gets pretty loud inside, so just be ready for that kind of atmosphere. The servers were friendly, and even though there was a bit of a wait to place our order, the food came out really fast once it was in. We were excited to eat at a diner. The music was amazing! The line was long so we waited with anticipation. I ordered the pecan pie, root-beer float, and brisket sandwich. $8.00 pecan pie that was so small a baby would not have had enough to satisfy. The root-beer float was flat. If you remember the "where's the beef" commercials, that's what I was asking,. Where's the brisket? The brisket was missing in the sandwich. The image in the photo was definitely deceiving. We have driven past this place many times, but the sign for funnel cakes caught my eye on a recent trip. There is ample parking in the steeply slanted parking lot. I was greeted quickly and everyone was really friendly. The restaurant is set up like a classic diner, and offers burgers, pizza, etc. I was just there for dessert, so I ordered a funnel cake. It was made to order with your choice of toppings, but I chose the basic one with just powdered sugar. Sadly, it was disappointing. The cake was super thick and dense and not very crispy. It was ok, but not what hoped for. I also took a couple pieces of pie for my group to enjoy later. The cheesecake and the Reese's pie were both pretty good. read more

All I can say is, "Oh My Goodness-the PIE!". I had the coconut cream and hubby had the regular Apple ala mode and they were both delicious. The custard in the coconut cream was cold, creamy and laced with coconut and topped with a perfect level of whipped crème. I'm not a whipped cream girl but it was pretty tastee! The ambiance of this place is fun and retro. There is a main jukebox at the front and smaller options at some of the tables. The menu included about six different pies and several types of cheesecake. There were also several ice cream options as well as diner food, like burgers and dogs and sandwiches. Upsides are the food and the classic feel of a wild and packed diner experience. The burgers were great, the fries, the rings, and the dessert. The wait was a bit insane and yet very understandable and worth most of it. The one downside that hit so hard was the fact that they wouldn't or couldn't split the dessert order from the food. A hot funnel cake will melt the ice cream into mush if not eaten right away... so one has to eat absolutely quick, or make a decision between a fresh and hot burger, or a fresh and hot funnel cake experience. Five to seven minutes wait on dessert would have saved this score. read more

Saw the reviews and a ton of YouTubers saying how great the food and experience was. Of course the arcade sold my kids. We being foodies and gamers this seemed like the best start to our vacation. Unfortunately the burgers were terrible they were almost the same texture and taste as the ones from elementary school. Basically they threw a ton of seasoning on it and threw it on a soft bun that turned mush almost immediately. Service was meh. The juke boxes at the tables advertised "we work try it" of course my 10 year old excited drops her own quarter in and nothing. No music, no song she selected, so I grab the employees attention and she tells me "oh the tables... yea sometimes they work it's why you should have used the big one over there." Not the response I was expecting but ok whatever it was only a quarter (At least she wasn't rude about) but still zero care. On top of everything it was 73 dollars!!!! For 5 under whelming burgers and fries. Now it wasn't all bad the desert we got the kids was pretty awesome, if I had just come in for desert this would have been a 5 star experience. So eat somewhere else and grab desert here and you will be very happy. read more

Prices are fair but honestly the place stressed me out. The old loud music is fine but some dude kept screaming on the intercom when orders were ready and you couldn't even understand what he was saying. Funnel cake was excellent. Adding ice cream and syrup is a lot of sugar we aren't really used to I guess. Ice cream is just blue bunny brand. We didn't get any hot food but it looked on par with the type of place. The worst part was thinking there was some jerk bassing in the parking lot making the windows shake and then 20 minutes in realizing it was their own sound system bassing out doo-wop music It was novel to us and only cost us $24 but it's not on the list to do again. The restaurant does not have table service. You order as you walk in then pay. You seat yourself. When your order is ready, you pick it up yourself. The restaurant has a cramped feeling about it and the food is average. You will pay a credit card fee if you use a card. The restaurant has a good theme but would be nicer if there were waitresses dressed in 50's garb. Or if the employees were a little more friendly. If you don't mind all of the above, give it a try. There's little jukeboxes at all of the booths that take one quarter to play a song and the song plays over all of the speakers not just at your table. I ordered the chicken pot pie. It looked and tasted like vomit on a plate. You need to remove this item from the menu. Others said the hamburgers tasted like fake meat. I tried the cheeseburger, fries and and strawberry milkshake for lunch during vacation. The milkshake was heavenly, the fries were okay but the burger was not great. It was obviously fried (not my kind of burger) with what appeared to be cheaper ground beef. They didn't offer cheddar so I had American cheese on it which turned into a cheese sauce (not appetizing). The ladies working there were pleasant and the theme of the diner is fun. We rolled into town starving and happened upon this place. You place your order at the counter and they bring to you. My 13 year old decided on the triple burger. The meat was thick, so he had to take one off and just eat a double! So, just know, the double is probably enough for you! I had a BLT and it was very good. The parking lot is completely adequate for cars and trucks NOT an RV (as an rv camper I noticed). We didn't have our's connected so in we went. I'm so glad we did. This place is the real deal. Completely clean, nostalgically cute, and charmingly photogenic. All the fare is homemade and totally delectable. The 6 of us stopped for a midday snack of blackberry cobbler, apple-pecan-caramel pie (both ice with cream), fried chicken Sammy, 2 hamburgers, fries, coffee, lemonade and we shared all around. The pie / cobbler crusts were flaky, tender, recognizable fruit filling and rich vanilla ice cream. The accompanying coffee was fresh. The chicken sandwich was fried and certified crispy -- not greasy at all. The French fries, oh those French fries! They had a little coating before frying and were certified crispy, yet soft inside. I do believe these were the best "plain" fries I've ever eaten ... no joke. I'm not normally a French fry girl but I will eat these again. I personally didn't taste the burgers but the others were raving. It is busy but they have an efficient system. The servers were sweet and seemed to enjoy their customers. We liked it so well ... We went back for the free drive-in. That time 2 couples got funnel cake and the other couple got a medium ice cream. I'm not normally a big funnel cake eater because they're too greasy. This was like a unique pastry topped with real recognizable strawberry topping. I say recognizable because it's obviously homemade and not smashed up strawberry flavored goo. We tried 3 separate times to come and there was a line out the door every time. This isn't a bad thing, but something I did want to point out! I'm also writing this in the middle of June which is pretty peak tourist season for Branson, I think. We first went around 4pm, then drove by around 7:30, then finally got in line and waited starting at 10:00pm. We ordered about 20 minutes later, I'd say? You order at what looks like the dessert counter and they send you on to pay and order drinks where the actual cash register is. Another thing to note! All card transactions have a (I believe) 3.8% fee, so it might be a good idea to bring cash. The food was honestly pretty mediocre bordering on not good, but I'm still glad we came and tried it! The beer batter fries were really good, especially with the nacho cheese to dip them in. The other food (pizza, burgers, chicken strips, tater tots) felt pretty high school cafeteria-y to me. We didn't order any desserts, so I can't speak to the quality of those, but they all looked really good! One last thing - this place is LOUD. It's not huge and there are a lot of people, plus an arcade, so it makes sense. There's also a loudspeaker that they call orders over. Just something to be aware of for folks who are sensitive to noise. I do recommend trying it once for the ambience if nothing else!
