Been here several times over the years. The vibe and atmosphere are wonderful. Food is just OK. We go to see Clay Self play and entertain. He's awesome. Drove over an hour last Saturday (06/20/26) to see him and we were SO disappointed. We brought 4 family members who had never been and had talked this all up so much. Ugh. The speakers or sound system were HORRIBLE. We couldn't understand a word Clay sang or spoke. And as good as the fiddler and (forgot what instrument the other person was playing,) it was just TOO much for a small venue. Clay by himSelf is perfect. Sadly we left after being there 10 minutes. What a bummer. Hopefully they get that sound system figured out. It was ear crunching loud this time too. I know it's usually loud but this was over the top. Came in to eat while staying at The Big Cedar Lodge. It's a cute place and food is good. Kinda expensive though. The pork nachos are huge! I could have just eaten that for my meal and I would have been fine. The chicken sandwich and the boom boom shrimp good too! Our server was so nice and helpful. Loved the vibe of this place the moment we descended the stairs. In line with Big Cedar's rustic style it's warm and cozy with plentiful seating for small or larger groups. Our server Jeremiah.was entertaining to say the least. He was energetic and quick with the comebacks. He was also attentive in his service. We ordered the cheeseburger and sweet potato fries. Our food came out quickly and was just as we ordered. The burger wasn't anything spectacular but it was delicious. Our favorite part was the musical act. The "one man show" was interactive with the crowd and very entertaining. His slap stick humor kept us laughing all night. We definitely intend to go back another night while we are here. read more

Walked in and the ambiance is very nice! Nice decor and clean. The service was just ok. The waiter was quiet and I felt awkward asking questions bc he would answer with one word. Ex: how are the burgers? Good. Anyway, the Bison burger was NOT good. Meat was not flavorful at all and the sweet potato fries were cold and soggy. Very disappointing. It was a $23 hamburger too. For that price it should have been better. We are staying on the premises and don't think we will be back. :( read more

We stayed in a cabin in Ridgedale and found the Buzzard Bar restaurant in Yelp. At night it was hard to find the restaurant. It is located near a large lodge and multiple cabins. The entire area was decorated with beautiful Xmas lights. And there was a suspension wooden bridge and a shuttle service that took guests from the restaurant back to their cabins. Very unique venue worth seeing. We finally found the restaurant and had to park down the hill. When we arrived without reservations the wait was over an hour. The hostess informed us that if we wanted we could go downstairs and eat without waiting. They had the same menu downstairs. We went downstairs found a place to sit and ordered fried chicken livers for appetizers, they were delicious. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. My husband ordered meatloaf and I ordered blacken catfish. The meatloaf was good and made differently. Very dense and charred on the top. I ordered the catfish, it was Ok, a little dry. read more

Really enjoyed our dinner here. The atmosphere was lively, service was friendly and the food was great. Later in the evening around 8:45 they have live music every night too. We started with some wings and crispy ravioli and both were very good. The crispy ravioli had a nice beef filling and was paired with a nice tomato sauce. The full rack of ribs is HUGE and actually one of the better bbq ribs I've ever had. Really moist, very meaty and great flavor. The coleslaw was perfect complement, though the fries were a little bland unfortunately. Restaurant is quite popular and so can be busy, parking can also be challenging. read more

Clay Self.The singer's set involved an unoriginal racist-trope laced ranting: joking about an international Middle East seasonal resort intern/employee seated among the room of 35 "audience" (I was there because there were limited dining options during the blizzard) members, as a GUEST at his "show" [a pointless twaddle spewed out] touching on anecdotes about how 'we waterboard people like THAT here'. There was also the unsolicited, offered guidance, a statement he directed towards the attendant children, to avoid "sissy" college. There were Taylor Swift digs, jokes about English being difficult for foreigners. Just lame material using naked cruelty and humiliation, being projected as talent, during dinner. Buzzard Bar. Sunday night, 1/25. I am told he is a regular on Sunday nights. I guess I am supposed to understand this product at this venue is meant to be regarded as on brand. I accept being shown what I'm seeing when I am looking here. I accept this is among the experiences being curated for guests who travel here to take in. What a disgrace. What disrespect for the staff is displayed by the management's endorsement. The majority of the guest facing staff one encounters at Big Cedar Lodge are international hospitality students working hard and learning a trade, which greatly enhances the guest's quality of service. We dined here last night and I ordered the Meatloaf which I believe was a new item on the menu. It was delicious! It came with garlic mashed potatoes and gravy and I chose the green beans and carrots as the vegetable. I would go back and eat this dish 3 days in a row....it was that good. I also had the Bread Pudding for dessert and it was fabulous! In my previous reviews I commented on how the menu here was a bit stale. I take that all back. By the way, we always love this place because of the entertainment. There is a guy named Clay Self who we absolutely love and we were disappointed to find that he wasn't playing. The person who performed was Tucker Tillis. He is great. He has a fantastic voice, has a bluesey style and has some really unique and catchy songs (Inner Tubes and Barbecue - it's on YouTube). read more

While vacationing at Big Cedar do not neglect to stop at the Buzzard Bar for lunch or dinner. We've had the friendliest servers and the atmosphere is very log-cabinish cool. There is a small amount of outside seating overlooking a pool. The menu includes a nice variety of choices but my two absolute favorites are the Signature Beef Brisket Poutine and the Devils Pool Smokehouse Chili. The Poutine is loaded with a super generous portion of tender brisket smothered with gravy, cheese curds and fries. A meal in itself or a shared appetizer. The bowl of chili is chock full of chunks of tender beef and beans topped with onions and cheese. Best chili ever! read more

This place is absolutely hands down perfection. The food was delectable, the environment was lodge cozy, friendly service. The restaurant is part of Big Cedar Lodge development but not the main part, it is off to the side. There is a suspended walking bridge as well as vehicle bridge that is so quaint and beautiful. From the bridge there is a amazing waterfall view as well as the canyon below. Gorgeous. The restaurant is a log cabin, and just teaming with cozy warmth. I love all the finishing touches with the large fireplaces and decor. I came for lunch, was sat that right away, the restaurant wasn't too busy. I sat next to the window with a beautiful view of the lodge next to it and the canyon below. The weather is a bit dreary but it still had a cozy vibe. I ordered the cinnamon toast drink that was warm apple cider with rum. I liked the warmth, was a bit too sweet for my taste. Jay was my server and was the ultimate pro. He was friendly, had great follow-up and was on top of it! Great customer service. I went ahead and splurged and got a few things, knowing that I would be taking the remainder back with me for dinner. I had the deviled eggs, which had pickled eggs, salmon, very tasty. I had a cup of chili which was rich, nice chunks of meat, and a robust flavor. Topped with cheese, this chili does not disappoint! I also got the bar-b+q burger with french fries. This is one of the biggest burgers I've ever had It was topped with brisket, a delicious barbecue sauce, fried jalapenos. So good. The fries were thick and crispy, really nice. Came for dinner on a Wednesday night and the bar was packed. We had to wait at the restaurant upstairs for about an hour before we were seated for a group of 10, but had a good time getting beers and talking with the server. Once we made it in, we had a great spot with a good view of the "singing cowboy". He was funny and a good performer. Our servers were also very quick and helpful. I got the chicken sandwich and it was pretty big! It came on more of a hoagie roll and was chicken tender style chicken. Which was very flavorful and well seasoned with great toppings. The waffle sweet potato fries also hit the spot. My friend got the tenders that come with a sweet chili sauce that was just soooo delicious. Was a fun spot. We always have fun at the Buzzard Bar! Especially when Clay Self is entertaining us. The bar food is generally pretty decent, or you can order items from the restaurant upstairs. The libations are reasonably priced, and extremely adequate. The main attraction for us though is the singing cowboy, Clay, who is very entertaining with his crowd interaction, off the wall banter, and musical talent. It's sometimes very crowded in the evenings, and it's recommended to share your table with others if you have space. That's also a way to meet interesting people. read more

Come for the ambiance not the food. Like most of Big Cedar, the decorations are on point. Located just a few step's from Devil's pool, it has a fun, tucked away & laid back atmosphere. We hoped to watch live entertainment but that doesn't start until 8:45. We were really hoping this would be better quality food as Uncle Buck's but unfortunately it's the same. Catfish, prime rib, baked potato soup, kid's filet, chicken strips and a hamburger. Hands down the best thing was the kid's 4 oz. filet with the burger a close second. The food quality is almost identical to Sportservice food. Sportservice mostly supplies food to big arenas, ballparks etc. It isn't inedible but thawed, reheated and bland. read more

We had done the Dogwood Canyon tram tour in the morning and gone to Top of the Rock/Big Cedar Lodge thinking we would eat at Osage. Because it was Sunday, all they offered was the Brunch buffet for $58 per person. It looked wonderful, but was way more than we were looking for. The hostesses suggested we take the shuttle to the Truman Cafe for sandwiches/burgers and they called the shuttle for us. When we got on the shuttle, another group ended up joining us and they were headed to Devil's Pool, which we had seen on Yelp! closed at 2pm. They were staying on property and I asked their opinion and they said 1000% Devil's Pool if you're wanting good food. The shuttle driver said that though he had never eaten at either place, he could confirm that what he hears on a daily basis is that if you want good food, Devil's Pool, but he could not confirm that they were open so he would wait there until we went in and verified. When I went in and asked the people at the host station, they explained that yes, Devil's Pool closes mid day, but they are open downstairs in the Buzzard Bar with the same menu. The service was great and the food was delicious. We were lost as to what to order and wanted to try several things, so we ordered one of every appetizer except for the okra. The fried ravioli was my favorite. The poutine was my second favorite. We ordered way too much food for 5 people, but ended up eating more than I expected.... we were all really hungry! Had a great lunch here, and service was very good. We started with the brisket poutine, and it was really good. (The brisket was pretty fatty, but we just picked the fat off) My kids both absolutely raves about their meals: Mac and cheese and a cheeseburger. I have to admit, the Mac and cheese was probably the best restaurant Mac and cheese we have ever tried (we all had to try a bite). The burger was also really tasty.
