Osage is located in Top of the Rock, which is a gated area near Branson. There is a charge to enter and if you choose to not use the shuttles, there is an additional fee for parking near the restaurant as well. The grounds and view from the restaurant are truly spectacular. Rolling hills and canyons. Details in design are paid attention to here and that shows. Overall, the food was good but not totally outstanding. My favorite was the beet salad. I would recommend the steak too, but the short rib was tough and over powered by the apple cider vinegar it was marinated in. The sides were solid, typical steakhouse style- buttery corn and roasted Brussel sprouts. Washing this dinner down with $24 Old Fashions was steep (if you want them smoked there's an additional $4 charge) and caused us to imbibe in 1 drink each. The kids meals were good with standard options including chicken tenders, but I'd pass on the surprise sundae. It wasn't very exciting--- the surprise was whipped cream on top. Maybe just call it a sundae. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Consider booking a table by the window to take in the view and ordering the beet salad. read more

We wanted to take my mom out for a nice dinner for her 60th birthday while in Branson. We were so disappointed. First the service was horrible. The waiter would leave water glasses empty for extended periods of time. He took quite awhile to bring the wine & other beverages. He would seem very put out if we needed anything & rarely checked in on us. Food was terrible. The potatoes were cold, the lobster bisque was embarrassing (it was watered down & unseasoned. No bisque, more broth-like), salads had too much dressing, & overall most of our party were unhappy with the quality of food. My mom's 60th should have been special but it was a restaurant nightmare. (Also, no recognition of her birthday even though I said it when making the reservation AND reminded our waiter). This restaurant is beautiful and it knows it. I made a reservation as a guest of the hotel for our first night here and was easily able to have the concierge change it when we realized we needed a bit more time to get ready after driving from the lake and checking into our room. When we arrived we did not have to wait and were easily accommodated with our request for a room by the windows with a view. Our server was excellent and very efficient, professional and friendly. He took wonderful care of us and did not rush us at all. We tried a filet, the Brussel sprouts and a wedge salad. We also ordered my daughter a pizza from their children's options which came as a huge and delicious flat bread that we both thought was wonderful. We walked around and enjoyed the view, visited the Buffalo Bar, and took some photos all while waiting for our food. Our server said it happens all the time so he paced the meal and waited to bring the fresh bread until we returned from the view so it was hot and warm. We had our 17th anniversary dinner here recently. We went early so we could enjoy the sunset celebration. A great westward view with bagpipes playing and a cannon firing as the sun dips below the distance horizon. We started with a drink in the bar, then moved to the dining room. The grilled artichoke appetizer was fantastic, I highly recommend it. My wife enjoyed her entree of sea bass and my steak was cooked perfectly. It was an enjoyable un-rushed evening for us. We were walk in's so needed to go to the lower level to done. We were greeted right away and no one was in line and it still took a hard 10 minutes for them to decide where to seat us. Wait staff was ok but nothing exceptional. I had a bourbon flight which was very good but the pours were quite light. And nearly sips. Everything is ala cart here, so the cost is higher. I had white fish which was extremely good. My wife had fried chicken and daughter had ravioli which were also good. Made reservations months in advance because we're on a road trip and requested table with a view, we got seated behind the only obstruction in the place (big fire place) Ordered their birthday cake for a friend and they couldn't be bothered to clean the table prior to it being brought out. Food wasn't terrible, but the service was so far below what you would expect when paying the amount it costs to eat here. We couldn't even finish appetizers before they were bringing out dinner then to add to the rushed feeling, the waiter tossed boxes on the table for us to bag up our leftovers. We didn't have a ton of options for food on top of the rock, so settled in here to eat. I know it's Holiday weekend, but at 58 dollars an adult plate, you would think that they could keep the food stocked up? My 5 year old didn't like anything... the only thing she ate was the waffles... and they were empty. The black berries were mushy (so she wouldn't eat that either) the only thing I ate was Cesar salad and my husband said the eggs didn't taste well either. The best thing about this meal was the dessert. I will say that when I asked for suggestions about what kids eat, they didn't recommend anything... but did end up removing the cost of my daughter's meal... because she didn't eat. I would have appreciated more kid friendly food options... especially when it's one of two options... although I never actually saw the other option. read more

The buffet was excellent with a large variety of charcuterie, fresh fruits/granola/yogurt, seafood, breakfast favorites - some with a twist and some other excellent brunch/entree items. This is one of my favorite restaurants. We look forward to coming here every year after we pick our kids up from camp. I made a reservation a week prior without issue and we were seated in the Atrium by the windows. Our server, Inee, was lovely and attentive. We ordered the Spinach dip (always a favorite), the lamb (cooked perfectly), the lobster mac and cheese (my son is obsessed), the lobster bisque, the elk soup, and a Caesar salad (you have to keep the anchovies!). The bread service is always so delicious- their butter can't be beat. We also were surprised with a birthday 'sundae' for our son's 11th birthday, plus an extra serving of butter cake for the adults. Watching the sun go down over the lake with a glass of wine and their amazing food comes at a premium, it's quite expensive. Big Cedar Lodge has a few options for dinning, including bars, grills, a fine lounge, and this Osage Restaurant, at Top of the Rock, and very next to The End of the Trail, a sculpture by James Earle Fraser, at Infinity Pool. The whole accommodations area is some kind of old and luxury resort, while such high-end (expensive) restaurant is definitely part of the experience. It would be wise to reserve an earlier dinner (before the sunset), and then to explore Chapel of the Ozarks and watch an on-site show. Other than surrounding activities and resort itself, the menu is typical and should not be any disappointment with the food and services. read more

We went for the buffet. They often ran out of items that were not quickly replaced. The staff was very nice, but the food was really, really bad. I hate to say that, but it was all bad except the desserts. For the price, you would expect better. Even acceptable, but no. I ate little, said nothing, and left. It didn't help that the guy carving kept a constant rambling dialogue about the "O.G.". Stop that, and serve the food. The buffet arrangement has no real flow, and people were running into each other, going different directions. Maybe just not have a buffet. At least not there. read more

Bread service was brought over about half way thru our appetizer - a little wonky on the timing, but ok. The herb honey butter was great, bread just so so. We moved to our main courses; I had the scallops and they were done perfectly. My husband had the mushroom pasta. I tried it, and it just wasn't for me. He said it was good, but not great. My side of truffle mushrooms were ok, just didn't have enough flavor for me. I tried the Mac n cheese and it was pretty good! We both enjoyed the dessert. Able to make a reservation on short notice! You can valet park for $15 or self park and take a shuttle. Note the shuttle can be crowded and warm. Know there is a Fee to get onto the complex, $10 per car. We arrived at the restaurant and there is indoor and outdoor seating. The views are amazing. The service is good. We had to wait a few minutes for the table. Ordering was easy, fast. Drink and wine options, soda. Started with the shrimp cocktail. Shrimp was fresh. Clean. The cocktail sauce was unique, more on the ketchup side. The filet was tasty. Good seasoning, a bit of sauce. More sauce would've been better. Butter on top. The steak was slightly over temp but ok. The onions on the side were good too. The sides were great. The potatoes were crispy and tasty. My favorite. The Brussels had a nice sauce and were also very good. The asparagus were fine. The blueberry lemon gooey butter cake with vanilla ice cream was a winner. I'm a fan of gooey butter and this was delish. Highly recommend. After dinner, take a walk around the grounds. So we were in town for a concert and decided to spurge and go to Osage Restaurant's Sunday Brunch. You need to know that you will pay $10 to enter Top of the Rock. Then you can either stop at the Visitor Center and catch a shuttle for free or park there and pay $27 to Valet Park. There is no free parking. The building and restaurant are gorgeous and the view spectacular. The service is wonderful and the wait staff were the best I have had in a long while. They were attentive our needs and fully on point. We were treated like kings and queens. Loved the service. There are lots of amazing choices and we really tried during the 2-1/2 hours we were there to sample everything. The crepe's station was fun and they were amazing. The charcuterie station was meh, but also fun. Omelette station was wonderful and what you would expect. They had a prime rib carving station. Good meet, well cooked, but not kept warm; so it was cold when served. Then there was the normal buffet breakfast fare. All good. I really liked the thick cut bacon. Chicken and waffles were a hit with my adult kids. Their take on eggs Benedict was a spectacular fail. The egg was hard boiled with no sauce and a soggy English muffin. The cold seafood station was great with oysters, scallop, and shrimp. They needed to pay more attention on the preparation since the scallops and oysters all had sand still on them. Made for an interesting and familiar crunch. The rest of the lunch menu was okay, but only fair. Dessert was interesting and fun; lots of bite size tarts, cakes, and cookies. At $58 per person, the bill before tip was $260; with a 25% tip that was well earned the bill came to a whopping number. Don't forget entrance fee and valet parking. We came for the experience and enjoyed the atmosphere and service. But I am not sure the food was worth the price point of a fine dining steak and seafood dinner for four. read more

Went to Osage for dinner tonight. Our server had a very large table and us. He was seemingly not in a good mood. When filling out the reservation form, there are options to make notes and check off food allergies. I did this and when we arrived the server was so blasé about it and emphasized how I could have a salad because everything else is soaked in butter. I had to ask him to take the initiative to speak to the chef. I was given the option of salmon or shrimp and was brought six shrimp on a plate. I had to ask if they would modify the house salad. The only reason for the three stars is that my husband's and stepdaughter's food was very well prepared and they enjoyed it. The ambiance is lovely and if you have an interest in Native Tribal history you will enjoy the pieces throughout the restaurant. Overall, for $300 (no alcohol consumed), I expected more from a restaurant that specifically asks patrons about allergies in advance and then does very little to accommodate them. read more

I truly am blown away at the lack of service we received at this restaurant. We celebrated by fiancé's birthday on April 20th and the service was so bad, I had wrote a note on the receipt for the server to see. We had a reservation and told them we were celebrating a birthday and our recent engagement which is why we were told we would get a window table. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. We felt a bit rushed when ordering and we told our waiter that we were going to try and slow down our ordering so we could enjoy our dinner, we were met with "well, we typically wait to put in an order once the soup gets to the table, but do what you want" which was a bit snarky and that was the only time we had an issue with the way he was talking. However, we were checked on 4 times in a span of 2 hours (1 of those times was to give us the bill). We were constantly asking other waiters to fill up our drinks, waters, asking for a steak knife, and asking for more bread. Our assigned waiter would be gone 20-30 minutes at a time. The last time he checked on us before giving the bill, he left to get the bill and containers for left overs. 25 minutes later, we got the bill and had to wait 7 more minutes for the containers he forgot. He said he would fill up my water without me asking him and he came back 30 minutes later saying "oh shoot that slipped my mind" when he saw my still empty glass. This service is what l expect when I find myself in a mediocre restaurant, not a place where I'm spending over $300 for a 2 person dinner. We are extremely disappointed in our experience and astounded with the lack of service. Which was incredibly disappointing because we really enjoyed the food, but the service was so subpar we don't see ourselves coming back. We felt like our waiter was providing exceptional service for larger parties (we physically saw him over there every 5 minutes while neglecting us) and threw us to the wayside. We asked for the Manager to speak about our experience but no one ever came. I am hoping this flags the management's attention so we can finally chat about the lack of service we received here. This place is as special as the other attractions in the "Top of the Rock" complex. It's a high end restaurant but very much worth the experience. The good side: - it's located in the same complex of: 1. "Lost Cave and Nature Trail" and 2. Museum, both very highly recommended. The views are one of the bests in the area. - If you get your reservation for the sunset time, the views are amazing. From the terrace and inside the restaurant. It's all windows so you actually have about 280 degrees view. - the food was very tasty and fresh. They have a good selection of chicken, fish and stake, and the sides are separate but sharable by 2 or 3. - plates like in any high end place ranged from $36 to ~$79, with the sides mostly around $12-17. - they have a good selection of wines and cocktails but cocktails are about $21, which you can get a good bottle of wine for $46. - it's good for large and small parties, and our server was polite and prompt with the service. The not so good: - there is no self parking, so you have to pay $10 to park inside near the "welcome center" and take the shuttle, or $20 and do valet parking. - there is not much to do between 2 and 4 pm (that the bars and restaurants open). The nearby coffee shops close around 3pm. - I felt a bit rushed, as soon as we ordered dessert they brought the check, which for me it's a bit unnecessary. read more

The gate attendant on duty at 7:30pm on October 21 thought it was a hilarious prank that our GPS, working from the address on the Osage Restaurant web page, took us not to the restaurant, but to Big Cedar Lodge, forcing us to backtrack in the dark over that entrance road's unlit collection of blind hills and curves, until we finally found the actual entrance to the restaurant. "Well you know, that goofy GPS, nobody EVER trusts that, not our fault, hahaha," the gate attendant said, instead of, "Sorry about the trouble, I'll let my boss know that the Osage address should be on the restaurant's front page, not buried behind it." Then she charged us the ten-dollar penalty for not booking an overpriced room at the Big Greeder Lodge, which earned us the privilege of driving up the hill to Osage and paying another $20-plus-tip to have our car parked for approximately 60 minutes. Thirty bucks so far, and we haven't eaten a bite. The Center Cut Filet with Stilton Cheese was perfect. The Mushroom Bolognese was a pound of sauce-laden noodles containing the fragments of approximately two-and-a-half actual mushrooms. They were hiding in there somewhere, and it became a game to find them. Then we got the bill. I had asked for a single large ice cube in my scotch-rocks. They charged me a dollar for it. I'm not kidding. I'd provide a picture of the receipt, but I didn't think to save the itemized portion of it. Here's the thing: when the sun goes down, Osage is just another steak house, but one that costs $10 to enter, $20+ to park, and $1 for 3.5 cubic inches of frozen water, in a pretentious atmosphere laden with (toxic?) wood-fired oven smoke and smug staff.
