it's early january, the new year is barely awake, and so am i, mostly thanks to a $5 ecard burning a hole in my pocket. naturally, i wandered into the english bay starbucks at denman and davie around 4:30 pm on a sunday. it was busy, but in that polite west coast way, everyone silently agreeing that caffeine was non negotiable and personal space was sacred. the space is bright, open, and comfy. big windows look out over english bay, and at that moment it was "blue hour", the magical few minutes just after sunset when the sky turns deep blue and suddenly everything feels cinematic and slightly more tolerable, even if your new year resolutions aren't. tables, stools, and lounge chairs are spread out just right, so you can camp whether you're working, scrolling, or pretending to be productive while sipping a drink that feels like a tiny win. there's a lounge style nook with comfy chairs and a huge world map mural makes you feel like an explorer plotting your next big adventure, though honestly, my biggest ambition was deciding if i wanted another matcha latte. clean wood finishes and murals of winding hills add a calming vibe, almost like the cafe itself is whispering, "it's okay, you've got this...one sip at a time." i went for a grande iced matcha latte with oat milk and strawberry cold foam. here's the funny part: i didn't even notice my order was wrong (probably wouldn't have, thanks $5 ecard softening the blow). eagle eyed barista samet, however, caught it, clarified my order, fixed it, and even got the cashier to refund the extra syrup, zero fuss, drama free, basically superhero level service. i'm a huge fan of their strawberry cold foam. it floats on top like it's personally invested in making your day better. the matcha is smooth and earthy, the oat milk makes it creamy without being heavy, and every sip starts fruity and playful before settling into that mellow, satisfying finish. it felt like a small but very deserved victory in early january, right between "maybe i'll start my resolutions tomorrow" and "let's take another sip." the location is wheelchair accessible, easy to navigate, and overall a fantastic spot to sit, sip, people watch, and feel productive without actually having to be productive. perfect for reflecting, laughing at yourself, and starting the year with caffeine and calm. read more

I really like the nice and spacious dining area and the overall relaxing vibe. There are plenty of seats that are far apart and comfy. Its pretty clean and has good lighting. The music is a tad too loud than I prefer. you'd have to raise your voice a bit to make natural conversation. Its too loud if you just need a quiet place to read a book when drinking coffee. They should turn it down a notch. I ordered a grande mocha hot chocolate with extra mocha pumps and toppings. It was pretty good in terms of taste, also not too sweet. The temperature wasn't too scalding hot so it was drinkable right away. The hot chocolate had a bit more grainy texture than I'd like but not enough to make me choke. Some of the previous yelp reviews about the rude staff is unfortunately correct. The staff lady's tone was kinda rude when I went to the wrong counter for picking up my mobile order. (The Starbucks i usually go to has the pick up counter on the right corner, not the left) She could have said to please go to the other side but said something rather rudely in a accent I didn't totally understand. It sounded like she said they didn't get any mobile orders at all. I just told im picking up a mobile order again and she said to go to the pick up counter on the other side. But the rude and dismissive tone I got in the first place was unexpected and kinda soured my visit. Overall, this Starbucks makes good hot drinks with a nice and spacious seating area. This is a great Starbucks! While visiting my friend in Vancouver, I walked here to work one day. While it stayed pretty busy throughout the day, I was able to find a spot to work - first outside looking toward the bay; then inside in a cushy chair by an outlet; and finally, at a table looking out toward the street. Each spot was great for working, and for people (and dog) watching as well! WiFi worked great, though there had to be many people on it. I had breakfast (pepper and egg white bites and a black tea with splash of almond milk - both great!) and then lunch (vegetarian salad) over the hours I was there. Everything looked and tasted great! They even have a water container off to the side of the barista bar so you can grab some water as needed while you're there. Kudos for that! The bathroom was clean, the staff I interacted with were great, and I'll definitely revisit this location when I'm in Vancouver! Updated to add: the friendliness of the baristas bumped this location up to 5 stars for me. They're the best Starbucks team I've ever interacted with... and I've been here at least 3-4 times in the last week. Bravo, team! read more

Funny and happy baristas. They are fast in taking orders and making the coffee. If it's wrong they don't mind changing it. They know the regulars by names and I never saw any of them with a bad attitude. This maybe the busiest Starbucks I've seen in Van City but hey it's right there smack in the happening area. It maybe hard to find seats but you can just kick it across the street at the little park or beach.. read more

***Update 12/9/2017*** Now that I've moved to Vancouver (this past July), I've taken to walking everywhere. And my daily walk involves going up the seawall to the Beach area and then around the perimeter of Stanley Park, then back (yes, I'm insane. It's over 10 miles!). And I always stop at this particular Starbucks. IMO this is the best Starbucks in the city. The counter staff is amazing. If your order isn't just right, they will do whatever they can to make it so (unlike other Starbucks were, if they screw up, you are SOL). Not only are all the baristas good here, but they are all nice. I like how they always are personable, regardless how busy the store is (and this is a particularly busy site). Ish and Justin are amazing, and the others here are also friendly and make damn good coffees. There are three washrooms (one is super tiny) and, for a super busy store, they are always well-stocked and clean. On the weekends they have a huge decanter of lemon-infused water out on the counter, for anyone to help themselves to a glass. Great multi-level lay-out to the store, cute little patio outside also on two levels, free wifi as in all Starbucks.... Just an overall great place. But again, the staff here really shine! read more

With so many other good Starbucks locations, there is no excuse for rude service and a dirty store. We didn't have a pleasant experience. First, it's such a great location and beautiful space. But it was SO dirty! I understand it's a busy, touristy location, but it was a mess. The staff needs to stay on top of it. We tried one of the new Guava Iced teas, which we found too sweet, so I suggested my partner sip some off and ask the barista to add water to dilute it. The man gave us such attitude and dirty look for asking, and finally pointed over to where the water cooler was. We're paying customers, there is no excuse for your bad attitude! My neighbourhood coffee shop. The staff are friendly even when it's busy - I've seen 20 people in line on the weekends but you always know what you're getting and it has a great view of English Bay. Could use better (ie more comfy) seating but I guess they need room for the lineups!! read more

Being a former Starbucks Manager myself, it's very easy to be critical of cafes and how things are done. This Starbucks completely gets it right. I have been 3 times in the last month, and every time the staff have been courteous at the very least. They are friendly and willing to chat if you start up a conversation. The manager does a great job of ensuring a high quality standard of cleanliness and ensuring that tasks are done to the highest standard. While some people may believe Starbucks is all the same, in my opinion, good people, like the ones in this store, make this Starbucks stand out. Can't beat the location and view, which is good and bad. I've been here several times, and there's never been a line of at least five people. But they're fast in taking your order, but slow in making your drinks because there's only one person making all those orders. Because of the fact that they're always packed, the Internet is constantly lagging, which is frustrating after waiting for 10 minutes to snag a seat. read more

But after a lengthy conversation this afternoon about how mega-chains are governed, I felt it necessary to throw in a couple of tiny cents in about this particular Starbizzles location. Best, best, and probs most expensive view in the entire city, this Starbucks has the potential to be an amazing study-slash-workspace, but has never quite achieved said status with me. This is where the "potential" thing comes in -- it's always, *always* packed. Lineups out the door, not a seat in sight, the atmosphere is a bit frenetic. In and out, is what they seem to want, and in and out is what I generally do. BUT, bonus: there's no key for the bathrooms, so if you find yourself in need of one of those when wandering the pretty beaches of English Bay, they've got that going for them. This is the Starbucks to get seen at, right off of English Bay, you can pretend you just jogged the seawall, or that you are just heading out to walk your dog. Or you can grab a mocha-chatta-latte-ya-ya a la voulez-vous couchez avec moi, c'est soir - better make that on ice if its hot out, dayum! If there's another touristy Starbucks besides Robson Street, its this one. Its a big location with all your standard coffee fare, and chairs outside so you can people watch, but you'd get a better view if you staggered across the street to the beach and creeped on the tourists. EVERY TIME I MOBILE ORDER MY DRINK their is no Option for caramel drizzle on the walls of my cup , and I never order from this one usually,maybe like once or twice a month!!! With that being said, on occasion I areive to the shop while my drink was being made. This place was great, just like any other Starbucks, except this one has a great view of the water! Location: Right at the corner of a nice and busy street right off of Davie Village and Sea wall. Inside: Nice and clean. Lots of chairs and even some that face the water! The bathroom was also nice and big, which is always great. Food: The usual Starbucks quality. I don't usually go to Starbucks, but when I go I get myself a Blackberry Mojito Tea Lemonade. I recommend getting this, honestly, its their best drink in my opinion (I'm not a coffee person). read more

It was moderately busy at the till when I came on a Sunday around 9pm. There were still a few seats left for parties of one or two, but it just felt too claustrophobic for me... I dislike practically all Starbucks beverages, and since there wasn't any other coffee shop open at that time I just got a tea latte, I despise Tazo teas as well! Maybe frothed milk or passion tea is the only option for moi at Starbucks? They should stock almond milk like ALL Blenz coffee shops do, but I understand that there is a very small percentage of people that drink it. It probably has the best view for a Starbucks...I will give them that. I doubt people leave their seats from "studying" if they get one in the front. ;o Baristas are sweet, bathrooms are revolting. This location is so freaking busy - on this particular day the line up was almost to the door but the staff had grace under pressure despite there only being three of them and my drinks only took about five minutes or so. Nobody seemed stresse and all in all it was a particularly pleasant experience. I must admit that I do prefer my Denman and Robson location as my usual but if I'm hitting the seawall from English Bay side then it will be my go to spot :) read more

Funnily enough, not everyone goes to Starbucks, it has been over six years since I've been but yesterday I went bc the person we were with wanted SB coffee. Good: Bathrooms are gender neutral so a growing line of females was able to use the facilities without watching the one man go by and then an empty bathroom. Not so bad: out of paper towel. (My bad: I forgot to let the staff know) Bad: I needed a refresher on what a Frappuccino was but the cashier could not answer my question. Maybe she didn't understand the 3 ways I asked, but if someone who knows the products was taking orders I wouldn't have held up the line. I was afraid to ask what the new special Tie Dye Frappuccino was like. Good: drinks were made quickly Bad: distinct difference in temperature between front seating and main seating. Good: when I brought the practically full Tie Dye Frapp back to the counter to dispose (I didn't want to throw so much liquid in the garbage), the young man offered a refund. Thank you! Bad: it looked like he may have gotten in trouble with mgmt or the owner as I was walking away, but to me that was excellent customer service that was very much appreciated and I hope he didn't get in too much trouble. read more

Fabulous location essentially across the street from the beach. A good, solid place for after-dinner coffee when it gets too noisy for regular conversation at Cactus Club across the street (see my review -worth it anyway). Wanted to go to Delaney's but it was closed Easter Sunday evening, and weren't expecting much since it's "just Starbucks" but it was better than expected - we found a table for 4 right away, service was quick, order was accurate, and we (including my parents' older ears - no they are not on yelp to read this!) could definitely hear well enough to enjoy conversation over our coffee/tea. read more

The new design of the store has removed the seating area along the window. Many people used to be able to sit along the window and enjoy the ocean view. Now there is only seating in that area for a few people on chairs that sit too low and you only have view of other humans. This is no longer my favorite Starbucks. Its too bad. BRING BACK THE OLD SEATING DESIGN! They put the old seating style back and even made it better. Always love Starbucks. Its now my favourite again. Only problem is its too crowded. read more
