This was my first visit to a Small Victory Bakery. This location is on Granville St by 15th Ave...where there has been much construction of late. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is beautiful, very bright with high ceilings.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And the selection of pastries was impressive. Opted for a latte and a croissant. Both came out as expected in terms of presentation and taste, though the latte was not as hot as one would expect. They did provide a pager to notify when the coffee was ready. Waited. Waited. Finally walked over and after several exchanges, determined it was our coffees. I provided the pager and said it did not go off. The attendant then reached down and activated it. Nice. No apologies. Beautiful space but with poor service, I have no intentions of returning to this or any of the Small Victory Bakery's. read more

I LOVE the Small Victory in Yaletown and go to there often, so I was expecting the same kind of experience when I recently visited this site on Granville. Unfortunately, it was not the same. I was glad to see the same amazing pastries and tarts and sandwiches, all fresh and beautifully displayed in the display case. I ordered a croissant and it was superb as usual. I also ordered one of thier baguettes to bring home. My kid and I think SV has the best baguettes in the city. They are crusty on the outside, soft yet chewy inside, and just consistently perfect. This one was as good as all the others we've had from here. Yeah! I wanted an Earl Grey tea which IMO is a pretty basic order. Surprisingly, they did not have it. I got a green tea instead (their tea selection was very limited). And the girl who took my order, as well as the girl who rang me up at the cash, could NOT have been more aloof. I smiled and tried to make a little small talk, especially with the girl at the cash when I took out my debit card and asked how to pay (she just pointed at the tap symbol on the machine but my card is not tap-enabled. I always joke with people about this). This girl would not even look at me. Zero eye contact. No "thank you", nada. I just got really cold vibes from the two of them there at the counter. (At least when I picked up my tea at the beverage counter, the guy there made eye contact and semi smiled). (Side note: the staff at the Yaletown site have always been super pleasant and friendly, and this really makes a difference. To me, anyhow). Not a bad place to do some afternoon work...even though they don't have wifi. The tables are spread out enough complete with partitions. Atmosphere is fine with lots of space. My butter croissant was great as it was served from the kitchen instead of the showcase. My latte was smooth..probably cab use just a bit more flavour to complete that full latte feel. I'm updating this review as Small Victory has been my fave little joint and regular spot over the last six months. Because it's close to where I live it's been my go-to coffee shop for delicious coffee and treats! The staff has always been extremely friendly and deals with big lineups in an efficient way to keep things moving along. I love the seating they have in this space and the decor is a real treat! My all time favourite thing to get here is a vanilla latté and the breakfast croissant with the tomato jam and egg and arugula! It's to DIE for! When I'm not feeling as hungry, I'll usually grab a butter croissant and boy are they buttery and flakey! I absolutely love them. The layers are so incredibly perfect too. I've tried tons of their treats too and everything has been incredible so far. I love too that you can buy things like Mumgry and their own granola. Top marks for small victory! read more

Absolutely outstanding!! Ive been to many cafes and bakeries/ coffee shops around vancouver! But i gotta say that this place is up there in my top 2. I tried several pastries across the board, And each one proved to be a winner. You can tell there is a Real Master baker behind the scenes and they only use prime ingredients...the butter that they use is of the highest quality, as the pastry base used for the croissants and strudels are so flaky and can easily be compared to the ones in europe. No i have not tried each item they have, but have tried quite a few..,and like i mentioned...each one oustanding in its own right. With celebrating my gf's birthday this past Saturday, it wouldn't have been complete without cake! I straight up asked her what kind of cake she wanted and she said "Anything coconut!" So I literally Googled "Coconut cake Vancouver" and I was pleasantly surprised to see Small Victory pop up on my results. With Small Victory being one of my favourite bakeries, it was a no-brainer to order their Coconut Cake. And to no surprise, it was delicious! Yay, found another spot for cakes! While picking up the cake, I couldn't resist grabbing a latte and all three of their croissant doughnuts: vanilla, pistachio, and coconut pineapple. I discovered these the last time I visited and seriously.. they are the best thing ever. I am super excited that they're opening a third location at Brentwood! So much closer for me.. Small Victory is the BEST french bakery within 100 miles of Vancouver -- in any direction!

I purposefully came here one morning after Googling bakeries and cafes. Upon walking in, I was instantly taken aback: the place was way more spacious than I had thought, or the Yelp pictures had led on. Huge space with tables in the back and high exposed ceilings (in my opinion) gave the place a glamorous Yaletown vibe. The bakers were working out in the open alongside the cashiers, with the humming of early morning coffeehouse efficiency. For someone who has never been to this place, the two counters were slightly confusing at first, but managed to figure out the counter displaying pastries/cakes was also for ordering. Pastries were perfectly placed and actually made me a bit hesitant to order one...akin to my hesitation about stepping on fresh snow lest I ruin the powder. A giant board above the counter listed drinks, concoctions, and prices...except drip coffee which is what I was seeking. The board directed me to look on the sheet which was by the cashier. I ended up making a snap drip coffee decision. My only suggestion would be to ask for a second copy of the drip coffee choices to be put closer to the front door, so we can have more time to read the different brews and decide while we are waiting in line. The coffee mug I brought was filled to the brim with my drip coffee order, thus I'm not sure what the normal size of coffee would be had I not brought it. I will say it was worth it, to enjoy the coffee in that spacious place, and someday I may even be brave enough to try a pastry! read more

Oh my yummy! I have such a sweet tooth that any excuse to try out some new pastries I will jump on immediately! It is mom's birthday tomorrow so we wanted to try something new! We went with the coconut cake slice, carrot cake, double chocolate cake, passionfruit cheesecake and tiramisu (basically their entire selection). My mom and dad loved the coconut cake with decadent layers and a delicious crumb without being overly sweet. The double chocolate is really dark in nature but again, a good balance of sweetness with a burst of chocolatey flavour. The cream cheese on the carrot cake is addicting and their passionfruit cheesecake has a surprise crust in the centre with a wonderful curd on top. Tiramisu was the one that was only okay but this is because tiramisu is more common and the others were "exotic". Overall, we love the cakes here and although they aren't cheap, the ingredients are of high quality and each slice is quite filling! Would return to try their tarts and pastries soon! read more

The breakfast sandwich with bacon and avocado is delicious but that and a coffee come to over $20 so it's quite a splurge. Waiting for your order feels a bit chaotic with regards to where to stand and wait, and you pick up your coffee at the opposite side of the store where you pick up your food. It was my first time to visit Small Victory on Granville Street. I tried the one in Yaletown. The one on Granville Street is very spacious and it is bigger than the one in Yaletown. The pastries and cakes as well as placing orders are on the right if you are facing the coffee shop. The coffee pickup and baristas stay on the left. I ordered a latte, almond croissant and lemon tart. The latte tasted great. It was smooth; the coffee and milk balanced well; and the temperature was too hot that wouldn't burn my tongue. The almond croissant was good too. It was crispy outside and sweet inside. However, I still love the almond croissant from Thomas Hass more . The yellow cream in the lemon tart tasted very sour and the pastry outside tasted sweet. Whenever I swallowed once, the sour flavour made me shivering. I was not sure why the pastry portion was really really really hard that I had to use a lot of energy to cut the lemon tart by fork. In general, the coffee here tasted great. They have a wide variety of pastries but it depends on which one you choose. I may like to try their chocolate pastries next time and other coffee beverages. This coffee shop is located on a busy street. It is hard to find street parking. It is good for people who walk or take public transit. I drove, parked far away and walked all the way to the coffee shop. If you are going to park on the street, you may find some parking meters, street parking with two hours free or free parking in residential areas (which are further away from the coffee shop). But watch out on the time limit on sign. You don't want to get a parking ticket just because you want to get a coffee. read more

Beautiful day, its sunny outside.. might as well enjoy the Sunday weather looking for the best cherry blossoms in Vancouver. My wife has always wanted to try this bakery in Homer St but Granville St was a closer drive with easier to find street parking. Line up was quick and short. The fresh smell of baked goods is always a bonus and stimulates the appetite. We got a breakfast croissant with avo, almond croissant, 2 cookies and a double chocolate cake. The almond croissant was a bit too sweet and oily 3.5/5. Breakfast croissant hit the spot 4/5. The Americano 4/5 and Cortado 4/5. 2 cookies are gifts and lastly double chocolate cake is 5/5 on looks alone, taste will come later. Would I come back? As Fairview residents, we have been customers of Small Victory since it opened and it quickly became one of our favourite coffee shops and bakeries in the neighborhood. The service was always friendly, the food portions were generous, and more importantly, very tasty. Generally, Small Victory Granville is still a very enjoyable place but we feel there's enough points to note so that management and ownership actually improve consistency in service and quality. It's been so much of a yo-yo and every time we think they've bounced back, service and quality slips again. This is the case recently. FOOD: We have been regularly ordering the avocado toast, clotted cream scones, turkey sandwiches, brioche and breakfast sandwiches, their croissants, pistachio donuts, and cinnamon buns. All some of the best that Vancouver has to offer. The food is absolutely delicious and we have gone out of our way several times to thank the staff and compliment the kitchen on their baking and cooking. Our first few years or having the toast, you'd get 2 slices of avocado toast and the size of the scones was greater. We've watched these go down to 1 slice of toast and considerably smaller scones, for example. Several times, we've ordered hot/warm sandwiches only to have them cold inside or inconsistently heated. Staff has always corrected the issue by re-heating or remaking if necessary, but it's happened more than a few times over the years of going here. You used to be able to get sparkling water from the tap too but that hasn't worked in over a year now. We've noticed an increase in prices too. Understandable to a degree given their size, location, and food costs, but it's getting tougher to justify. SERVICE: Unfortunately, this is a significant drawback here but not a deal-breaker on many days. It used to be a place of such warmly-greeting staff, happy that you were a patron and so we would almost always recommend SV as THE PLACE to go. Over time, it feels less like they're less joyous and that customers are almost a frustration at times. Now, there are many staff there who are warm, friendly, and interested and whom we've recognized over our many visits while still being efficient at their work but service overall seems inconsistent. Interestingly, we feel like the bakery part and coffee bar are almost two different places or levels of service. We have rarely felt any warmth at the coffee bar and I cannot recall a smile, thank you, or laugh from the coffee bar staff in the many years we've been going. Granted, they have many customers to serve but it's feeling less friendly with each visit. Service improves for a while but then it goes down after a few months and at the time of this review, has seemed to have fallen again in general. On Saturday, one of the drinks we ordered was an oat milk vanilla matcha latte. When I received the drinks, the barista seemed frustrated like they didn't want to be there and did not respond when I said "Thank you."After we left, I drank some of my beverage and noticed it was neither vanilla or sweetened nor oat (or at least tasted VERY different from the same drinks I've had in the past). Since I'm lactose intolerant and we were already a ways from Small Victory, I basically had to dump my drink down the drain, wasting $$. [[HIGHLIGHT]]ATMOSPHERE: Understandably busy. Well laid out but odd waiting area is wasted space. Long overdue for adding more tables. We've since seen one appear.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]One visual observation is it still feels very austere with lots of brass and large, open walls. It's not a warm, inviting environment (that comes with the patrons), but rather cold-looking.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, it's always very clean. Hi my name is Issabelle and I'm addicted to buttery croissants. I popped in on a busy Saturday morning, and with Covid restrictions, there was a line out the door. The line moved rather quickly and everyone maintained their distance. I've been to the Small Victory location on Homer before, but this was my first time at the Granville location, and I have to say, I much prefer this one! It's a lot more spacious, they offer a lot more baked goods, and there are a lot more seating options. They have a weekly rotating breakfast/lunch menu that is offered from 11am-4pm. This menu offers a variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, and pastries, which are all made in-house daily. Since today was my cheat day, I picked up an iced black coffee and a variety of baked goodies: butter croissants, veggie turnovers, breakfast croissant sandwich (for my brother), carrot cake, double chocolate cake, and chocolate chip cookies. I loved everything I got, but since I've got a savoury tooth, the veggie turnover was the most superior. It reminded me of a delicious Argentinian empanada. And the filling was to die for! I was genuinely sad when I made it to my last bite. The carrot cake was also delicious - not too sweet, and the perfect amount of cream cheese frosting. Their croissants are also amazing - flakey, buttery, both crispy and soft in all the right places. My brother who is a die-hard chocolate chip cookie lover, raved about how these were the top 3 best cookies he's ever had. I personally would pass on the double chocolate cake next time (only because I'm not the biggest chocolate fan...I know, I know I'm crazy), however my family who does love chocolate, loved this cake. In the future, I'll be picking up my croissants and veggie turnovers from Small Victory! The only thing that went wrong during my visit, is that I should've picked up more croissants! Next time. Neighborhood coffee haus with indoor dining and a couple of outdoor tables. Good selection of baked goods as noted on their website menu. Portions were on the small side but tasty. Service was relatively fast but quite a gap between ordering and getting drinks from the coffee bar. Bathrooms are poorly located, too close to dining area. Always preferable when customers have access to sugar, cream, knives and forks. All of that is done back of house so if you don't ask when ordering you have to line up again. read more

I've been to their other location multiple times, but never to this one. Personally, I liked the ambience and the selection of this place better. The venue is more spacious and there is a larger variety of items. We ordered a bunch of things, and most of them were fantastic. The total came to around $30 for 7 pastries. I wanted to try their pistachio cronut thing but they didn't have it when I went. Vegetable Turnover (5/5) I always wanted to get this but never got the chance to. It definitely didn't disappoint. The pastry dough was flaky and light, though it was a little too oily. However, I really liked the flavour, though I would have preferred a little more filling. Mushroom Tart (3.5/5) This was not bad, but I didn't like the flavour of the cheese. That's just me though, since I'm not the biggest fan of cheese. There mushrooms weren't as juicy as I wanted them to be and were a little dry. The pastry itself was pretty good, but the filling itself fell a little short. The goat cheese flavour was way too overpowering. Almond Croissant (4.5/5) Probably one of my top three favourite almond croissants of all time. Definitely in the top five though. The pastry was decently flaky, and had the nice crispness on the exterior. It was a tad oily, but nothing too bad. The filling was quite nice, and there was a generous helping of almonds on top. The croissant itself wasn't too dense, which is very important. Their There's almond croissant is still the best though. Croissant Bite (2/5) I didn't really like this one. The croissant bite was quite dense and I'm personally not a fan of cinnamon sugar, which there was a lot of. Plain Scone (4/5) Pretty good for a plain scone. It was buttery and moist (sorry), and the flavour was nice. Being a plain scone, it did get a little boring after a while, so I would suggest sharing this one. Pecan Cookie (4.5/5) I've never seen this one ever before, so obviously I had to get it. It was delicious, and definitely did not disappoint. The texture and the dough base is the same as the one for the chocolate chip cookie, except that this one has a generous helping of pecans inside! I love pecans, so that was great. The exterior was crispy and the inside is chewy, which is the best kind of cookie in my opinion. The only thing that I didn't really love was that it was a little too sweet, since there was some caramel or dulche de leche type thing mixed inside. Overall, it was still fantastic, and I would totally recommend this, but you should probably share it. Chocolate Chip Cookie (5/5) This is the one thing that I get every single time and it never disappoints. It's still the best chocolate chip cookie that I've tried ever, and I've eaten hundreds of them. It's crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. I've written reviews about this cookie so many times so I'm just going to stop now. Small Victory is one of the best bakeries in Vancouver. The only thing that I'm sad about is that they don't have vegan options (at least none from what I saw, though I could be wrong). I can sum Small Victory up in one word. Butter. This modern style patisserie carries baked goods that scream Paris. One bite of their flaky pastry and I am transported. I recently had a friend come visit from Belgium and he insisted we eat at Small Victory every morning because it reminds him of home. Not that it's a hardship to have Pain au Chocolat every morning. This is a great spot for baked goods. Love their veggie and beef turnovers. However, I strongly dislike their coffee. Still haven't a good cup there and have stopped ordering it. Much prefer a matcha latte from this particular cafe. But overall a great spot to catch up with a friend and enjoy a pastry. read more

Another instagramable cafe + bakery. There are so many cafes in this neighborhood. What make small victory bakery stands out is its hospitality. When they asked my name, they can tell what it means in Japanese! Quite surprise. I got a latte and almond croissant. Of course, the almond croissant is great. Croissant Doughnut + Pistachio Cream: This was small but tasty. There was a good amount of pistachio cream in the center which was smooth and creamy, and you could slightly taste the pistachios but it wasn't over powering. I liked the added crushed up pistachios on top to give it more pistachio flavor and a crunchy texture. I am glad that I got to try it but I wouldn't get it again because it was quite pricey for the size. (4/5) Pain Au Chocolat: This was kinda burnt looking at first because the pastry was quite darker than usual but it didn't taste burnt at all. The pastry was super crispy and flaky which I liked but since it was a bit over baked, it became a bit too oily for me. There was some chocolate bits inside but it could use a bit more. I was on the hunt, reading many reviews and articles online about "the best cinnamon buns in Vancouver". I tried a lot and they were good but not satisfying. My friend recommended me to try SV's cinnamon brioche and I have since then started going here once a month to get the brioche bun (with icing). I live only a few blocks away so they sure help me practice self control.. I will go often for their chai latte because it's perfectly brewed and the perfect sweet you want (not too much, only a hint to please the palette) but must resist the baked goods. Take into account the size of the place, number of staff always supporting each other, and location - their price is reasonable (gotta pay the bills and make profit, right?). read more
