Can't believe this place has so many good reviews. Our experience was chaos. This cafe is near the cruise terminal and if you are visiting near on a day when ships are arriving or departing you can expect the same. Nowhere to sit. Crowded and we waited a long time for our food which was made one item at a time. The display looks gorgeous but don't be fooled. We had a matcha cream puff pastry which was frozen inside which leads me to believe the items are not made fresh. The almond croissant tasted stale. There was a short line to order but there were plenty of people sitting at every table and there was a short wait for my food and drink after ordering White chocolate mocha latte: 2/5 the coffee flavor on this was pretty strong which I didn't love as someone who likes really sweet lattes. I also didn't like that you could barely taste any white chocolate flavor at all Pistachio filled donut: 3/5 this was decent, lots of cream on the top and the inside. It was too sweet for me though Cretzel ham and cheese melt: 4/5 this was my favorite item here. They even warmed it up and cut it in half. On this visit I chose a mango passionfruit filled donut. The dough was soft and the filling was flavourful. The coconut shavings on the top added to the taste. Date of visit: July 16, 2025 When looking for alternatives to the crazy expensive hotel breakfast, I stumbled across this 24-hour gem, and I am so glad I did! It always seems to be busy, which is really the hallmark of a great restaurant, and the quality of the food and staff friendliness drives that point home. Staff use tablets to take your order at the counter, which is good because there are so many items you want to try that you keep adding things as you go down the line. I went with a ham and cheese cretzel, and it. Was. Fantastic. For dessert I added a Vanilla Donut Bite and I am hard-pressed to think of a better way to finish a meal, the slight crunch on the outside mixing with the soft vanilla underbelly. Visiting Vancouver and looking for a place for lunch. This place is known for it's pastries, but they also have good selection of sandwiches and soup. It was Monday, around 1:30pm and there was a line when we got there. The line moved reasonably quick, when you got in front of the pastry case there was someone their to take your order. (it had the hurried pace of some delis that I have eaten at). The place was crowded, but we did manage to snag a small table, which was a bit tight for the 3 of us. We ordered, Spinach and Artichoke Pocket, Vegetable Soup, and a couple Tuna Melts. They heated the Pocket, with a Panini Press (not my favorite method), so the entire sandwich was a little too dense for my liking. (It did have good flavor). The Tuna Melts were also heated in a similar way but they were on bread. They were also good too. The desserts looked very impressive, but were too full to try. Next time? It's a decent place for food, but not an especially relaxing atmosphere. read more

It was a beautiful day in Vancouver so I do wish they had outdoor seating but not a biggie. And the third one is that the taste and quality of the treats are very good. We came here on an evening and ordered coffee with some delicious desserts and enjoyed them. I come here every time I'm in Vancouver. It gets crowded around 9am and there's a line. The service staff is efficient but it's awful for someone like me who is unsure what to choose. I had the matcha and Earl Grey puffs boxed up to take to go to my work, and decided to eat the sandwich and oat milk latte inside the store. They do heat up sandwiches for you but I had to check the counter as I couldn't hear the staff. Also The area around the drinks counter was crowded and I was waiting for my number but couldn't hear the staff. I understand that it's crowded because it's a popular place, but it's not a relaxing place at all. I recommend the matcha puffs and the Cretzel ham & cheese melt. However it moved quickly, but not too quickly that you didn't have time to examine their beautiful display case stuffed full of pastries. The cafe space here is very modern, with tall ceilings and sleek black bench booths. The pickup area where you wait for your items is awkward and crowded - it would be nice if they figured out a better system for this. I got a matcha cream puff, egg bites, and a coffee. The cream puff was huge and tasted delicious. The other two were more normal and I would probably not re-order them. So I guess the moral of the story is when you go to Breka, choose to indulge. read more

Another location of one of the best local coffee chains around town. Parking is pretty awful here. But it's close to Waterfront station. Inside is packed, like all their other locations. This one has a more modern interior compared to the other locations, with their fancy light fixtures. Staff are friendly and quick. Can't really go wrong with anything here. They do have sandwiches and cakes, both of which I imagine are pretty good (I've tried them at the other locations). read more

Isn't it funny that one minute you could be best friends and the next you find yourself being complete strangers? That's what distance can do to a relationship. Sometimes you feel that way about people, but on the rarest of occasions, you may feel the same way about places too. On my first visit here to Breka in 2022, I felt an instant connection -- a sense of companionship and affinity that you normally get from a close friend. It was that same type of feeling you get when you meet someone for the first time, but it feels like you've known them your whole life. I loved it, and it seemed like Breka loved me back because the food, the service, and the ambiance were all invested in making me feel comforted. But just like the fast friend that you make at a party who you wonder if you will ever see again after departing, I had to leave Vancouver and didn't know when, or even if, I'd see Breka again. Lo and behold, an unplanned trip in 2023 landed me back in this familiar place where I found myself having those same feelings reappearing. And when I entered the doors after almost a year away, it was as if I had never left. Like old friends gathering after a long break, our conversations were easy and soothing. The smiles came back on our faces as we didn't need a re-introduction. But as all visitors in life learn: time is temporary. And for me, that time had come to an end way too soon. When it did, I too had to return home from a visit to a friend that always seems too short. Elliott Smith once said, "I'm never gonna know you now, but I'm gonna love you anyhow." And those words are as good as any to chronicle my longing for my good friend Breka from a British Columbian city that goes by the name Vancouver. read more

What a wonderful first breakfast in Vancouver! The service was fast & friendly and the ambiance was perfect for a morning. We tried: - blueberry almond chia pudding: chia was really well soaked and the blueberry sauce the perfect amount of sweet. - Sausage roll: breading was crunchy and soft, sausage had good flavor but not too salty or hard. - Chicken pocket: really great puff pastry that stood ip reasonably well to the chicken w tomato sauce. Delish - Strawberry cream strudel: the highlight. Beautiful puff pastry, strawberry just the right level of sweet, and a nice thicken cream, all topped with crunchy sugar. I'd eat this every day.
