Wonderful oasis for a break from shopping on Robson street. We came in for a late lunch that included a BLT croissant, egg and bacon croissant, and the mango pastry. Everything was super tasty and reasonably priced. Ordering service and counter pickup was friendly and efficient. They have a section at the very back of the cafe for you to bring all of your plates when you are finished. The place itself was welcoming and had plenty of tables for small groups. Bonus points for having clean bathrooms for customers. Highly recommend!
Nice looking pastries but it doesn't taste very good. More specifically, the fruit looking cakes. Maybe it was my selection but the orange was extremely disappointing. I expected the mousse cake to have some sort of baked base but it was completely mouse, syrupy fruit and not so great tasting chocolate coating. The chocolate coating tasted a bit alcoholic/chemically. Kinda disappointing for how much it cost ($12)
Beautiful deserts but also very delicious. The lemon was gorgeously delicate with great taste of lemon. The dubai croissant is fabulous
4.5 stars, but will give them a 5 :) Been wanting to try the pastries here... couldn't go for something too heavy or filling though since I still had a dinner reso in less than 3 hrs. Obscure Funky soul/ jazz in the background which I did enjoy. It's quite different....but it just didn't match the cafe atmosphere. I think the cafe needs a revamp. I thoroughly enjoyed my cinnamon croissant though. Flat white was pretty good too. Staff were super friendly. 2 unisex bathrooms. Limited but sufficient seating. I'm just being picky here... but It'd be nice if they had their own branded cups and aprons instead of still using forêt noire's old stuff. And personally, I think the tacky pink chairs was a bit off putting. But overall, I wouldn't mind coming again just to try their other pastries.
Le Belisse Café bills itself as having been voted best croissant in Vancouver, and it's easy to see why. All of the pastries here are truly beautiful to look at. But that's a bold claim, especially when you're across the street from Ladurée (admittedly, though, Ladurée in North America isn't quite as good as in Paris or at Harrods in London). I tried the two most basic offerings, the plain croissant and the pain au chocolat. The pastry for both was very nice--flaky with just the right mixture of moisture and crispness. The pain au chocolat was an unconventional shape, which I think adversely affects the chocolate to pastry ratio, but it was good. I'd definitely go back and try some of the other beauties in their display case.
My favorite season has arrived -- the Vancouver Croissant Crawl Festival! I visited Le Belisse cafe. What I got: Biscoff Cookie Hazelnut & Salted Caramel Croissant You will be surprised by the size! It was so huge! And price is almost the same or cheaper than other croissant crawl's item. Dough was crispy outside and nicely moist inside. Highlight was biscoff crumble and Hazelnut salted caramel cream filling combination. Crumble was so good! I could eat it forever . Cream was on sweeter side, however, it nicely paired with biscoff crumble. Presentation was very beautiful. I am so happy to discover such a delicious item for first week of this festival starts. This must be one of the best of this crawl festival for sure.
I stopped by on a weekday morning for a pastry and coffee. The pastries are beautifully displayed. I chose a Black Forest roll and iced americano (the coffee was reasonably priced, but the pastry was a little pricey). I intended to enjoy my purchase in the cafe, stating "to stay" after ordering each item. Despite this, the employee put everything in "to go" containers and suggested I take some napkins and a straw with me. The shop was fairly quiet and other patrons were enjoying their pastries on plates, while I was being encouraged to leave. I guess I didn't have the right aesthetic for the place. I stayed for a few minutes before leaving to enjoy my purchase outdoors.
I've tried quite a few of the pastries from here and I have to say everything has been delicious and well made. Their viennoiseries are all baked perfectly, and the croissant pastry is great. Also a bonus that they are open late! The only thing missing is that some of their flavoured goodies are lacking. I had high expectations for the Dubai Chocolate croissant, but it ended up taking away from the croissant portion itself since the pistachio and knafeh weren't the best. Same with the matcha croissant - it was quite a bitter cream filling which took away from the pastry itself. Staff are kind and helpful!
First time here since they changed the name of this place from Foret Noir. I had the jasmine peach mousse and it was just ok. It was filled with sour tasting peach compote and had a slight hint of jasmine. I would have liked a stronger taste of peach and jasmine tea. I wouldn't try again for the price point. The staff isn't as friendly as they used to be so not sure if I would be back.
Ambiance. Service. White chocolate Peach with jasmine tea mousse. Coffee. Went here for a late night snack and did not regret it.
We were excited to try the viral fruit pastries, but unfortunately we found them to be over priced and underwhelming. For $12 per pastry we expected these to be outstanding, and they just have quite awkward flavour profiles. The Nutella croissant, also $12, was clearly not fresh and baked who knows how long ago. Disappointing visit this time.
The croissants here are absolutely stunning to look at and taste just as delicious. I've only had the strawberry croissant roll, but it was worth every penny. I will have to return to try other flavours. I've had a turkey croissant sandwich for lunch, which was pretty good, but the draw is definitely the fancy pastries. Service was a bit stand-offish and borderline rude on my last visit, which is quite off-putting when spending money in an establishment. Perhaps the server was having a bad day. I'll still return because the treats are just so good here.
There were so many beautiful, delicious-looking options that it was hard to choose, but the Mont Blanc was the best choice. Highly recommended!
Excellent bakery and cafe with delectable baked goods especially. We tried the following for Croissant Crawl and they were all excellent. - mushroom tart - really great flavour, very crispy and crunch on the outside - strawberry croissant tart - this is so beautiful you don't even want to break into it to eat it, but the fruit is wonderful and fresh, the pastry very crispy and crunchy, amazing texture and as a package it is awesome - pistachio and mango cruffins - these are good as well. Crunchy and the inside is flavourful. - cheese tart - I think this is my favourite. Really smooth and wonderful cheese, the crust is solid and crunchy but not too much. Just really wonderful. Would definitely come back. read more
This place's aesthetic is really cute and the fruit-shaped desserts are probably the biggest draw. They are so unique and honestly look almost too pretty to eat. I believe they were one of the first places in Vancouver to really bring these fruit-shaped desserts to the forefront, and then slowly everyone else started following the trend. The mango is definitely my favourite. It's light, fruity and refreshing and the white chocolate shell gives you that little crack when you bite into it. I tried the clementine/orange one as well and I would probably skip that one next time. It's mostly cream with not a ton of cake. The good news is that the mousse is pretty light, so even though there's a lot of it, it doesn't feel like an incredibly heavy dessert. The pastries and desserts are definitely more about the experience and presentation, although there are some really good options beyond the fruit ones too. read more

I ordered the mango and a pain au chocolate raspberry croissant. They were both amazing and a little messy. The service was slow. I waited 20 minutes for the pastries. The ambiance was nice. read more

All the pastries and dessert were so pretty! It'll definitely make you want to buy everything you see! Most of the desserts reminded me of Paris-- which probably what made me ecstatically excited. We ordered the pistachio roll (my most favorite), the flat croissant and the strawberry tart. I also approved of their cappuccino! The price is expensive-- but I think it's worth it! And the shop was cute as well! read more
We were captured by the amazing looks of the viennoiserie so much that we decided to try this place instead of Paul down the street, which was our original destination. We were not disappointed. We got some espresso beverages and a pain suisse, which was absolutely delicious, one of the best we've ever eaten. The combination of the perfect viennoiserie pastry and the chocolate + warm custard, made it really irresistible. Espresso was decent too. Highly recommended. read more

Ducked in for a plain croissant for a quick bite for lunch on a rainy Saturday at 130pm. Shop was busy. Beautiful desserts. Staff were efficient and patient with the numerous patrons deciding which fruit desserts to have. Croissant was fresh, crispy and not oily. I didn't try the fruit desserts this time. read more
The desserts are pretty but it can be better if the pastries and dessert can be a bit more moisturized. Tried the Mont Blanc is bit too sweet and dry. Passionfruit croissant is dry too and not much surprise. Hazelnut roll looks pretty but the stuffing can be more and the pastries can be more moist. The store is pretty packed that I don't really comfortable enjoying my dessert cuz more customer in line walking back and forth behind me. The staff probably is tired and don't feel their passion and patient. Maybe need more training on customer service. One visit should be enough to check out this place. read more
I came here ESPECIALLY for the croissant rolls! I bought the pistachio, strawberry, nutella, ones and an almond croissant. So far I've only tried the almond croissant and I did not expect it to be almond-y on the inside too which is a neat surprise! Each bakery item is on the higher price tag, but converted to USD it's a steal. Im currently freezing the strawberry croissant roll to save it for my sister LOL. Hopefully it's still good by then! Can't comment if the croissant rolls live up to it's ratings as my family ate it and not me. They are really huge though! And pretty (: Very interesting to see "lipstick" being sold here. Tip: the croissant rolls are usually served around 11:30am? I came by in the morning and the guy told me that. read more
Fancy French coffee shop, even though the name (Black Forest) is as French as schnitzel. Parking is pretty awful around here. What can I say. The inside is quite relaxing and modern. Special mention to the green logo wall, though it reminds me more of a jungle than a forest. Staff are friendly and helpful. They definitely have European accents. The coffee is quite tasty. The cream is served in a shot glass instead of a mini pitcher. The pastries also looked nice and tasty, though I didn't try. Definitely worth popping by and relaxing for a bit if one needs a break from the loud downtown area. read more

Very cute French bakery with limited seating inside! The line was short at noon on a sunny Saturday but seating was full. The strawberry croissant was super flakey and delicious with crème inside - around $9 for each! read more
Tried the time, black forrest and opera cake. Opera cake is a lot sturdier than the ones I've tried before, black forrest was light with very liquored up cherries, but the time cake was a show stopper. Time cake has a peanut butter base with a light mouse on top with a gooey caramel filling. It was decorated so nicely, it was too pretty to eat. The gears were intricately made on top. Cakes are bit on the pricier side (about $10-12 each) + 2 teas it came up to $50. Service was great and they had a decent number of tables. One of the few places that close late at 11 pm. read more
French bakery and cafe on Robson. One of the few places that was still open leading up to 11pm on a Sunday. Had a couple desserts here on our way back from a show. Overall delicious desserts. Got a lemon tart and chocolate chiffon. Delicious and great flavor. Appreciate having a usable restroom here too. read more
Beautiful backdrop, and good pastries located on Robson. There is a kiosk by the front for their whole cakes. I've had better pastries in Vancouver, but the macaron texture is one of the best that I've had. It is moist, light, and delicate. Surprisingly I liked its texture more than my favorite La Duree macarons (which was across the street, and yes, I did buy a box and literally took a bite out of theirs and a bite out of La Duree's macaron to compare in the same sitting). What we got: - Nutella roll - French flan - macarons - a dark chocolate cake with apricot (forgot the name) - their beautiful bag ($1.50) Service: There were more than half of tables with used plates that have yet to be cleaned up. There was only one worker for the first 10 mins to act as cashier and to hand over the pastries, so the line to order became quite long. The poor grandma 2 people behind us had to grab a seat because she was standing too long. I would definitely get macarons here again, but for pastries I think it pales in comparison to the bakery Cadeaux, which we went to everyday that we were in Vancouver. read more

My husband and I were walking along Robson St. when we stumbled across the new location of Foret Noire. I'm a sucker for French patisserie shops so couldn't pass up the opportunity to go in and give it a try. I got us a table and let my husband choose our food and drink. He came back with the following; Blueberry Croissant Roll Passionfruit Croissant Hot Chocolate Passionfruit Croissant was black in colour. I'd have loved to know what made it black but my husband isn't one for asking a lot of questions. Perhaps squid ink? Doesn't matter much to me. I loved this Passionfruit Croissant with a "passion" so that's all that really matters! Blueberry Croissant Roll and Hot Chocolate were both delightful as well. Love this place so much and really wish they would open another one closer to us! Service: Good Parking: Paid parking on the street Location: 1126 Robson St., Vancouver read more
This spot was so good we visited twice! The first visit the order was wrong but it was so delicious I really didn't care. That's a first for me. The cafe itself is adorable and the flavors... I wish I had had time to visit a third time to try even more things. read more
I have had better desserts. I was shocked to see in the Viennoiserie display, there were over 10 active fruit flies hovering over the pastries (Plese see my photo). I had my eye on the chestnut tart and because of the amount of fruit flies, I had to pass. That was pretty gross. Lucky the desserts display had no fruit flies and probably because it was in a colder enviroment. I got the strawberry chocolate entrament and B got the Gateau Opera. My strawberry chocolate entrament was very light and it was not bad. I tried B's Gateau Opera and that was a big disappointment. The gateau in the center was not crispy at all. It tasted if the desserts were not selling very well and was probably on display for a long time. That was a pretty big disappointment. 2 desserts came to close to $23 was a pretty big disappointment. We asked for water and the server forgot about it and we had to remind him. I noticed the decor looked ok but one thing that really put me off is that I have noticed how badly stained the chairs were. Like I said I had better desserts elsewhere and I probably won't be back. read more
Forêt Noire Café first opened back in 2018 on West Broadway St. I've thoroughly enjoyed the pastries & treats there over the years. This new location on Robson St, will have a few exclusives on offer so keep an eye out when you're here. A beautiful bright colour scheme adorns this shop & makes for a very sleek & attractive eye catching design. Mazen, the owner of FNC, has brought his European culinary experience & superior service skills to Vancouver & it's a real treasure to taste his master pieces. Croissants, Danish, tarts, cakes, Macarons & plenty more are on offer. It's all beautiful high-end French pastries & quite a delight to see & taste. I feel like I'm walking into the movie - Charlie & the Choclate Factory - every time I step into Foret Noire Patisserie. Do try the croissants here as they are some of the flakiest ones I've ever had. It's like fine artwork as you look inside your croissant & notice each layer so delicate. The sandwiches are quite popular as well. They were all sold out by the time I got here. Pssss ... can you keep a secret? A third location (the largest of what will be 3 spots) ) will open up in Burnaby by years end. Shhhhhhhh ... don't tell anyone. read more
Excellent pastries! I wanted to get one of each but only one belly to fill. I actually went to both locations because the one we went to first didn't have the Mont Blanc, and I really wanted it, been on a chestnut phase. I was most pleasantly surprised with the Cube. Expected it to be dry for some reason, but it wasn't! It was filled with pastry cream and strawberry jam/confiture and not all that sweet. Pistachio roll was also very good! read more
Cute French cafe with so many pastries! We came around breakfast time and it looked like there were some breakfast exclusive items that we were able to pick up! We heard there was another lunch pastry delivery later with more that we missed. Lots of seats and tables available inside and the drinks were also fantastic! Overall, would recommend! read more
A stunning pastry with a kickass Espresso...what could be better first thing in the morning? ...and that's what we got...so it was a great start to the day....and yes, I've had bad coffee and pastry put me in a bad mood before. What I liked about this place was it foreshadowed what was to come....here's what happened. We were walking by the place and the smell literally made us stop. The aroma of buttery flakes with the sweet and creamy air of fruit-topped custard accompanied by perfectly roasted coffee beans. That made us go inside. The espresso was such that I had two. The pastries were such that after we finished we left right away so I wouldn't get more. You know....calories and all that crap.... The girl at cash was friendly and she tried her best but I think she genuinely needed more training, as it seemed she was brand new. We found out she overcharged us and had to let her know, and it took a while for her to sort it out, so much so, that other people behind us ended up leaving. Proper training and attention to staff knowledge for a starting business is huge. Yeah, I'd go back if I'm in the area and Vancouver seems to have become obsessed with croissants...but again...you can never have enough croissants. read more

We had the Black Forest Cake and the Broadway Cake. The kirsch for the Black Forest Cake was not strong; it would not remind you of a Black Forest Cake. The chocolate mousse for the Broadway cake tasted like the one at Whole Foods (but half the price), and it had some white stains on the side of the cake which were startling. They were both too sweet and very disappointing. In terms of service, the server was not only unable to speak English but she also did not know about the products (she gave us the wrong information). We could barely hear her. Moreover, she ruined our cakes as shown in the pictures (she made a hole on the Black Forest Cake and she made the chocolate piece fall from the Broadway Cake). Furthermore, she taped the cardboard underneath the cake onto the box wrongly: she taped on the side rather than the center (the tape stuck out from the cardboard). It would have been easier to remove the cardboard if it was taped at the centre. Overall, we were shocked to see that La Foret Noire, a cafe that appeared to be upscale, would be negligent in training (the server was unknowledgeable, unable to communicate, and unskillful of handling the products). In addition, there were mosquitoes flying around the pastries inside the shelf and on top of the other pastries on the counter. It was gross. The service, the quality of products, and the hygiene standard showed that the cafe was actually low class. They just make it a French bakery to make themselves look high-end. read more
