Was staying at Douglas autograph hotel and was looking for cafe close by. Stumbled into Belgian chocolate cafe without much expectations and was amazingly surprised. Coffee : 5/5. Americano by itself was not bitter , smooth n beany. Very hard to get something like this ..was totally wowed ! Pastry : 4/5 Carrot cake fresh and moist as expected and chocolate croissant was fabulous. Interior: 4/5 Small place . Seat along the windows. Flora murals and international ambiance . Our door seating as well with umbrellas T

A very cute cafe located close to the waters! Their chocolate and pistachio croissants are pleasing to the eyes and mouth. However, the cafe does not use their own chocolate. The ice creams they have and use in the milkshake were from Avalon. Overall a good cafe to visit after a summer beach day.

This fabulous little Belgian bakery is right across the street from the JW Parq Marriott where we stayed and it is truly a taste of Belgium in BC. Freshly made chocolate croissants and thick rich hot chocolate made my mouth feel like I was in Europe - while the friendly and patient servers reassure you that you are definitely in Canada. Pastries are made fresh daily so get there early and you can buy them hot out of the oven like we did - buttery, flaky and oozing chocolate There are also chocolates, coffees, sandwiches and other goodies for those who aren't in the mood for pastries. Absolutely delicious and I highly recommend a stop.

If you need chocolate fix, this is your place. This is a little cafe across from JW Parq. We did not come for the food...we came for the rich and creamy hot chocolate. It was delish!! Warms the heart and soul.

This Cafe is situated on the corner of Pacific Blvd across from the Casino. I walked passed it a few times after my workout at the gym. The casing makes your taste buds tingle. It has a very nice selection of desserts and sandwiches. Also, bonus--they make delicious looking . Waffles with fruit toppings and chocolate and whip cream--need I say more? Today I went a little bit crazy buying a variety of treats to nosh on over the next few days. I was in a good mood and this made it even better. The Turkey sandwich isn't bad. I love the strawberry layered cake--inside has real Strawberry sauce, not jam. I'm glad that I went inside and gave it a try cause it was worth it. Fancy!!

Despite the great reviews, I found the food so so. . . and this was freshly baked goods a little after 7am (when it opened) on a Wed morning. I had the chocolate chocolate muffin, which just did not taste that great. It was soft and had some chocolate chips, but was just okay. The croissant, which was not even placed on display case yet as they were sitting off to the side, was not that flaky or soft on inside or crisp on outside. It was slightly warm with ham and cheese sandwich, with a little mustard, wilted wet lettuce (yes wilted) and tomato. I would have ordered plain croissant had I known it was not a true baked ham and cheese croissant. I was so happy that it opened before 8am, which was before our flight, but will try the other nearby bakery next time.

Great place for hot chocolate in Vancouver, especially during a cold winters day! Plenty of indoor seating and a great place to catch up with friends over a chat. I loved the vibe of this cafe with the friendly staff behind the counter, and would definitely recommend when in the downtown area.

Classic Waffles (sans ice cream) and Caramel Latte

Wow! I saw this place outside the hotel I was staying at and bookmarked it for a coffee break during my stay. I went one morning with the plan to stay for a few hours to write and work, and it was perfect! It's a really cute and cozy coffee shop with plenty of perfect lighting thanks to the wide windows throughout the shop. I really wish more cafes relied on natural lighting like this. The staff is really friendly and service is great. Since I stayed a few hours I ordered a few different things. I got the classic waffles, caramel latte, blueberry tea, and the ginger & turmeric tea. Let me tell you, nothing disappointed! Those waffles were DIVINE! I wish we had something like that where I live but it's not quite this quality. The latte and two teas were so refreshing and delicious. Everything was served in quality cute cups and plate ware. I would've definitely visited again had my trip been longer, but sadly I couldn't.

Chocolate Speculoos Cake (front) and chocolate dome (back)

Ambiance: 3.5/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 4/5 Overall: 5/5 My boyfriend and I were staying at the hotel across the street and noticed this place when we first checked it and knew we wanted to take a peek. We went on a Saturday early evening and there were still plenty of seats which was great! The best part about this place is the service - they are all super friendly, helpful, and sweet! We ordered two things to share - the chocolate dome and the chocolate speculoos cake. We ordered at the till and took a seat and they brought over our items along with some warm chocolate fondue to pour over the dome. As for the taste, the dome was a little too decadent for our liking - it was a chocolate shell with chocolate mousse and more chocolate poured on top. I loved the novelty of pouring the melted chocolate on top to reveal the inside, but I wish they had some flavour in there other than chocolate. We both quite enjoyed the cake though! It was light and fluffy and balanced out the rich-ness of the dome. As for the ambiance, it's a pretty small spot so there's not much to it. The front counter is beautiful with lots of marble, but the seating area leaves much to be desired. There's not too much seating, and half of the tables are directly across from the washroom which is not the best spot to enjoy a drink and pastry. Overall, this place is pretty good! Some of their other pastries looked really tasty so I might come back if I was in the area to grab something to eat at home.

Not only did the individual cake slices look worse than the pictures online (it was disappointing), but also they did not have the name tag with the price for many cake slices as shown online. The server did not tell us the name of the cake slices; she just told us the ingredient without any details as the name tag that was shown online (e.g. she told us "hazelnut" instead of "hazelnut mousse with vanilla sponge cake.") It was better for them to have the name tag with the price for all of the cake slices so customers would not need to ask them, especially when we needed to wear masks now and when it was busy. It was difficult to hear her through the masks. It was unbelievable that they did not have any bags for customers to carry the boxes of cake. How can they expect customers to carry the boxes of cake if customers buy a lot of individual cakes or whole cakes? Moreover, the server still asked us if we need the cake slices in separate boxes even though they did not have bags for us to carry. It would be more difficult to carry each individual boxes than to carry a large box. The server found two paper bags which did not fit the cake boxes and she tried to squish the cake boxes sideway inside the bags that resulted in a fallen cake slice after I arrived home. This discouraged us from returning because they were causing customers inconvenience. Moreover, she did not give us our receipt and she only give us the credit card receipt so I had to ask her for the store receipt. I saw the name of the cake slices on the receipt was different than what we had bought. They had mousse cakes for $6.5 in the cafe and mine was a pear mousse cake slice. However, she charged me $7.5 for it and $7.5 for lava cake but she had "Chocolate Duo" 2@$7.5 on the receipt ("Chocolate Duo" was a different cake). The price for the lava cake was correct ($7.5) but not for the mousse cake slice. She had overcharged me because they did not have the name tag with the price shown to customers; that means they could charge us any price they want. It was absolutely unethical. P.S. The bottom of the Pear Mousse Cake was damaged at the two corners when I opened the box (as shown in the attached photos). I was shocked because this was the first time that I was given a ruined cake slice. How could they give a damaged product to customer? I did not know if it was done by the server, who tried very hard to take off the gloves after taking the cake slices for us (I saw her kept shaking her hands behind the counter with the gloves). It was unacceptable. In addition, the chocolate sponge cake in the middle had no taste, and the vanilla sponge cake on the bottom was dry and coarse as if it was stale.

Had a craving for some sweets and thought I'd give this place a try. Cute little sunny spot with friendly customer service. My partner and I picked up an eclair and a carrot cake to share. Both did not disappoint.

Ruby-Blossom Cappuccino (Vancouver Coffee Drink Challenge)
    Brenda Y.

The Belgian Chocolate Cafe brings the beauty of Belgium to Vancouver: chocolate on tap, handcrafted coffees, delicate brussel waffles, beautiful pastries and exceptional service. Stunning Coffees They are participating in Vanfoodster's Coffee Drink Challenge and I ordered their creation, Ruby Blossom Cappuccino. I absolutely loved it because the cappuccino was texture book perfect (1/3 milk, coffee, foam) and the idea to use ruby cocoa was brilliant. The fruit and sweet notes of the ruby cocoa paired so well with the slightly bitter and acidity coffee. The beans are sourced from Australia Signature waffles The Waffle de Luxe definitely lived up to its name! I learned the Cafe has a pastry chef dedicated to making waffles to order and I am absolutely impressed. The Brussel waffle was light, crispy and airy. Although the grid pockets were not as deep as a liege waffle, there was more than enough dark chocolate to cover the entire waffle and fruits! I truly appreciate how the waffle itself was lightly sweetened. This allowed for the chocolate and fruits to shine. The waffle also comes with a perfectly round scoop of ice cream with visible specks of vanilla bean seeds! If this dish isn't deluxe, I don't know how else they can make it better. the fresh fruit helped give the dish some acid to cut through the sweetness. Amazing Service I was extremely impressed by the quality of service! The staff were not only friendly but they made sure you were comfortable. For example, a little boy next to me spilled hot chocolate all over himself. The staff did not hesitate to make him a new drink and they immediately cleaned up the spillage Another example, they always delivered the customer's order before they sat down or they never asked you to get your own order. Also, I love how the staff are quite equal. Everyone, including the barista would clean up dishes, get to know customers and ensure the cafe was clean and organized. This is the European standard that you don't see often in Vancouver. The Belgian Chocolate Cafe is now my favourite cafe

**Update: yet again, Yelp admin has changed the info I input about this establishment. Yes, it it located at the corner of Pacific and Smithe Street, but I clearly noted when I listed this business that its physical street address is 30 Smithe Street. This is the address on their business cards. I don't know why Yelp always changes the street addresses input**

I happened to have just come out of an afternoon show at Performance Works and as I was walking away from the Performance Works building, I happened to turn my head and see this shop, so decided to check it out. They're a small shop/ workshop that does tours which teach how chocolate is made. When you walk in, you can smell chocolate in the air. The lady in the shop offered some samples of their chocolate. I tried their Tanduay Rum chocolate and their Earl Grey Tea chocolate. According to their website their chocolate is award winning. To be honest though, I wasn't blown away by what I tasted. It wasn't bad but it also didn't taste to me like it was award winning chocolate. I noticed a sign though that said they had a drink which was part of the Koolfest. This is a new festival that started this year and is a celebration of cold drink creations from vendors of the annual Hot Chocolate Festival. Kasama's creation was a Filipino Cacao Husk & Kape Cold Brew with Vanilla Cinnamon Syrup and Ube Cold Foam. I hadn't had any Koolfest drinks yet, this one sounded appealing and to be honest...I'm the kind of person who tends to feel guilty about taking free samples and then not buying anything! So...having sampled the Tanduay Rum and Early Grey Tea chocolates, I decided to buy a Koolfest drink. Not much of a coffee person usually. This might be only the second time I've ever ordered a cold brew drink. I very much enjoyed this drink! For me to enjoy a coffee beverage, it has to be sweet and this one was sweet...but not excessively sweet. I loved the Vanilla Cinnamon flavor in it. It really hit the spot.
