Such a nice spot to have a coffee! Amazing location on West Hastings near Canada Place. I've come here twice during the week, and its never been crazy busy. This is great cuz I can always find a seat, and the atmosphere has a relaxed vibe. The lattes are great. As for the food, the first time I came here I got the yogurt and fruit parfait. The yogurt tasted off, yet I continued to eat it. Why? I don't know, but I probably won't order it again. However, on my next visits I got the plain waffle and tutti frutti waffle which were so good! Ordered the Holy Cocoa, Rosemary! Off their hot chocolate festival menu. Cashier was very pleasant but the guy that was making the hot chocolate did not once look at me or acknowledge me. Placed the hot chocolate on counter and walked away. They were not busy at all!! The hot chocolate itself tasted like milk chocolate in milk. This is a nice cafe at the park in front of downtown water front. I just discovered this on my way to the Convention Centre. I like discovering nice places like this. Plenty of seats in and out of the coffeeshop. They have comfortable bar seats facing the window. I ordered hot chocolate and you can choose between dark and light chocolates. Service was fast and polite. They have plenty of food options, pastries and croissants. They also close late, 7:00 pm which is very convenient. Music is not too loud. Of course it's downtown so there's pay parking. I will come back regularly as I enjoy the atmosphere. read more

Sipping hot chocolate with espresso was fantastic! The best sipping chocolates I have had are in Paris, NYC, and Boston. I came to Mink per a friend's recommendation and I left with the store! I'm a big dark chocolate fan in general. Mink's makes small batches of dark chocolate. Outside of drinks, there is a huge selection of chocolate. I went with the traditional dark chocolate bar and the award winning hot chocolate bar. I wanted to taste the dark chocolate with nothing added. So smooth! The sipping chocolate comes in 70% or 36% cacao. 70% was my jam + espresso. Divine! Located down the street from the convention center. Easy to find! Nice break from work! read more

Anyways, my most recent visit was motivated by this year's Hot Chocolate Festival and Mink was showcasing The Kinda Hot Hot Chocolate (Pure ganache layered with sweet cream and ancho & chipotle peppers) and The Not Hot Hot Chocolate (A Parisian style drinking chocolate over french vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate shavings). Each drink was $8.50. Their drinks are true works of art, offering a perfect blend of sweetness and richness. I was in love with the Kinda Hot version, it was thick and rich. Their regular menu does boast the option of milk or dark chocolate and they even offer fondue. My husband and I came here for the hot chocolate from the hot chocolate festival. We were very excited to try it at the beginning because Mink is such a popular chocolate shop that offers chocolates, hot chocolate, and chocolate beverages in Greater Vancouver. We ordered the flight of four drinking chocolate from the hot chocolate festival. One was a caramel flavour; one was dark chocolate; one was white chocolate and one was the orange one. The dark chocolate was a bit bitter, which was great; however the other three were extremely extremely sweet that I felt sick after drinking them unfortunately. The level of sweetness was exceeding the standard level. I urged whoever has health issues or who has diabetes should not try this flight of four drinking chocolates. In a medical term, I suddenly had the Hyperglycemia. The extreme sweetness from the super sweet hot chocolate created high blood glucose (blood sugar) in my body that I felt very uncomfortable. I had to drink water to dilute the sugar in my body. I always have chocolates and hot chocolates from Beta5, Thomas Haas, Chez Christophe, and Koko Monk. I was totally fine with their chocolates or hot chocolates. But after I had the four super sweet flight of hot chocolate from Mink, I felt very sick. I am not joking. If I will go to this chocolate shop again in the future, I would only order their regular hot chocolate or dark chocolate. I just could not handle the flight of four drinking chocolate that had super sweet flavour. Sorry... However, I would say their customer service was good. They were welcoming, friendly, and caring to customers. The space was comfortable with outdoor seating. read more

The place gets busy, and it normally has a line. 20 minutes before closing, they also stop making food, although you can still choose a pastry from the case. Really good decaf mocha here. I try not to come here often because it is somewhat addictive. The chocolate drink mixes that you can take home to make hot chocolate are the best I've tried. The personal fondue is a fun little treat at a reasonable price. Sometimes the service can be really slow but I'm not usually in a rush. read more

It's a great place with lots of options. Was a sweet choice for a rainy cold afternoon. The staff was friendly and helped us choose what to order! The place was packed on a Thursday afternoon and lucky for us, we got to sit down. We were curious to try the fondue, but they said it would be back in 2 weeks. I was here yesterday for a hot chocolate (small $4.95) and I thought it wasn't worth the price. It tasted similar to the ones I've had from Blenz, but it was a bit pricy than Blenz for sure. I actually liked the small wrapped dark chocolate that came with it. Because it's located next to Canada Place I think tourists can stop here for a coffee / desserts. Interior and washroom were clean. Like I said, hot chocolate seemed overrated for the price and I didn't find it too special in my personal opinion. Walking on foot in downtown Van gives you the chance to see things you would not normally see driving. This is one of those places, tucked in a little bit. Lots of seating, out and in. Loved this place on the inside. Lots of choice. Friendly counter service and staff did not mind giving recommendations. Some award winning bars here! We bought 2 of the top winners. You will pay... $6.50 for a small bar. $$$ The focus is mainly on dark chocolate but there were 2-3 milk chocolate options. Then many other kinds of singles, truffles. I can only imagine the drinks. Absolutely loved this space! Nice little café with both indoor and outside seating for when you want to enjoy the weather. All of the staff here were very patient and kind in answering questions and helping when our fondue flame went out. I am not a big fan of their products for a couple reasons. Well I recall the first time when they first opened like 10 years ago, I had their cold milk chocolate (yes in the winter time). It was thick that I remembered. So thick that because I drank it very slow it quickly hardens. Yes the staff melted it couple times for me. After that I had bad memories of it. When I left my first office job, the partner bought mea box of chocolate from here as a thank-you for service gift. I have to say that time, their chocolate was high end and not a lot of chocolate stores around. I like their design. Nothing really changed in their small square shaped chocolate design. Small box is over $20 with very few pieces. Not sure if its worth it. I did noticed that business for them did pick up compared to when they first opened. Recently I got some chocolate from them. Its nice to get as gift but I don't find them like wow. Also their prices are prices for the amount of chocolate you get and if you were to compare to their competitors. I was really looking forward to trying their drinking chocolate as I've heard if you really like hot chocolate (and I do), this was the place to go. Unfortunately, they were sold out when we came so I settled for the dark hot chocolate, which they had just enough dark chocolate to make my friend and my drinks. The drink was OK but nothing memorable. I also picked up a 9pc artist bonbon set of chocolates to try. At $19/box, it wasn't cheap but when I tried the chocolates, they were not that great... definitely had better in this price range. Surprisingly, the Grapefruit Caramel one, which I was wary of the combo, turned out to be the best tasting one. The atmosphere was nice and spacious though and would make a nice date spot. Surprisingly saw a lot of strollers & kids here the day we went too so looks like a kid-friendly place. Maybe their drinking chocolate is really that good as others say, but I will have to try on another visit. read more

I saw ppl got both the fondue and the s'mores, I think that's probably way too much. Just the s'mores and maybe buy some fruit on the side. I also bought their chocolate to take home and WOW. #175 Twelve visits and still in love. Mink is a chocolate café that specializes is 38% and 70% cocoa (dark) chocolate. They have many candies of many flavours (see pictures). My favourite is the 16oz hot cocoa (70% dark of course) with a side chocolate bar. Today, I had to really check out the menu. I never much paid attention but they have drinking chocolate, waffles, espresso, fondue, and more. Still I stuck to my usual and safe 70% 16oz hot cocoa to stay. This location is across from the Trade Centre area of downtown Vancouver and if you sit outside, you have a great view of the mountains. Take note it is very busy with local business traffic as well as tour groups so your wait may be long (though some things are worth waiting for and this definitely is and you do not want to rush this). They apparently will ship product allegedly almost anywhere so this is nice (just not the same experience as visiting the store). Oh my first sip warms my heart and takes the chill out of this cold and rainy Vancouver day. Welcome home, I have been expecting you. We arrived at 3:50pm and the staff said they close their kitchen at 4pm and no longer serves it... to me it's just the staff being lazy and not doing their job. They had 4 girls working and you're telling me it takes all 4 to close the kitchen while all they're doing is chatting with each other? Wouldn't come here again later in the day. Enjoyable! We had the s'mores fondue and it was adorable (I'm attaching a photo here). Toasting the marshmallows was fun, especially as it was pouring rain outside. We also shared a peppermint hot chocolate. Both items were dark chocolate, of course. A little expensive, but would definitely return for a tasty treat in the future. read more

This place is seriously the best!!! Every time I come here, I always get the iced blended chocolate drink and request for their darkest chocolate. It is seriously the best chocolate drink ever! It's quite pricey (Around $6?) but seriously so worth it considering the high quality chocolate that they use. Their chocolate fondues are actually quite good too and my favourite food item here would be the s'mores set. Now, I don't go camping that often so I don't usually get the opportunity to make legit smores, so I just come to mink! Their waffles are good as well and they decorate them all fancy with different fruits, chocolate, and cream. The location is superb and the service here is excellent. All their drinks come with their signature chocolate "peeler", which is just a small thin bar of (high quality!) chocolate. This was probably the best hot chocolate I ever had. You can taste the finest Belgian cacao. I opted for the 38% one. Although it was on the pricy side ($5.20 for a small size), it was very rich and filling but at the same time not too sweet. I've always passed by West Hastings and Hornby and never realized that Mink was right there until a friend mentioned this to me. Definitely in a super convenient spot downtown, I have no doubts it would make a great summer hangout. The cafe is decorated quite nicely and staff are pleasant enough as well, although seating is a bit limited. Obviously, chocolate is their specialty, but because of this everything is definitely a little bit more on the pricey side. However, the good thing is that you will get a nice sample piece to try when you order something from them. I ordered a small chocolate mocha over ice, 50% dark chocolate and 50% milk chocolate. Total came to $5.78. Just by tasting the drink you could tell that they definitely used the good chocolate to make this, but it was probably a tad too sweet for my liking. Therefore, I think the small size is perfect because anything more would've just been way to heavy to drink otherwise. However, the sample piece of 72% Cacao extra dark chocolate was just right. Overall, 3.5 stars. If you have a sweet tooth then this is where you want to be. Otherwise, see if you can customize and figure out how sweet your drink is, and try to get something a tad lighter than what I tried. read more
