Popped in for a treat last week to partake in Vancouver's ice cream festival on a solo adventure. Came in and had the triple chocolate gelato and every bite of this ice cream was decadent and jam packed with chocolate - which I have been seriously craving. The piece of chocolate served with it was also stunning, beautiful, super clean in it's taste and crunch. I like that they have lots of seating and some great gifts to purchase folks. Iced hot chocolate? Yes, that is a thing - and at Koko Monk Chocolates it will be refreshing, have a depth of flavour, and not be too sweet. Most of their hot chocolates can be made iced. There is not a lot of room to sit, but it's bright and clean, and the service is helpful and friendly. Anyways, back to the chocolate. Lovely spot and lovely owner to chat with! We see him making hot chocolates most of the time we're there. This place makes amazing hot chocolates. On Saturdays, they do hot chocolate flights. Every year they also participate in the hot chocolate festival and they come up with a very unique, mystery flavour. The store also sell chocolate bonbons and gelato. All which are superb. The ambiance is quaint. It's a small shop with limited seating. It is very cozy and would be a cute spot for a date or a catch up. read more

I love Koko Monk for their unique hot chocolate offerings beyond the typical dark and milk at most places. I got the lyric and dagger white hot chocolate and it was delicious and not too sweet. It reminds me of being at the hot chocolate festival but all year round. Special but not too "out there" and weird. Highly recommend this place if you love hot chocolate and I even got some hot chocolate mix to take home and make for myself. read more

I visited Koko Monk at the other location but this one on West Broadway was new to me and I was happy that I visited it and tried their hot chocolate flight last Saturday. Originally I was thirty and wanted to drink something but my husband told me their menu showed a "hot chocolate flight" and it would be served on Saturday only. Of course I would try it! We ordered at the cashier and got a table. A lot of customers ordered chocolates, sweets and hot chocolate from the store. Indeed the store was short staff for the weekend (that's what I felt). Only one server at a cashier and one made hot chocolate or served at the back. One more person worked inside the kitchen who did not even serve customers at all. On a weekend.... Customers just waited in line to order, pay and pick up the food. The pace was quite slow. I hope they would add more staff at least for weekends. The hot chocolate flight (minimum 2 orders) had three small glasses but after drinking all three, I felt I drank one big cup of hot chocolate. They were quite filling but they were not too sweet. One had ginger flavour in it. One was a special hot chocolate. One had a bit of wine or vodka in it but after mixing the alcohol with hot chocolate, It tasted very unique. I was very satisfied to taste three different flavours all at once. I also had a small butter tart. It went well with the hot chocolate. Hot chocolate festival was still running last weekend when I was at Koko Monk. I saw people ordered the special hot chocolate from the hot chocolate festival. I would love to try them but February 14 was the last day. I would recommend others to have hot chocolate here other than visiting Thomas Haas. read more

I love milk and white chocolates. I'm such a chocolate fan! I love Koko Monks! They have lots of options and percentage of darkness of the chocolates. I like that the staffer is very knowledgeable about their products and let me try pieces of some chocolates I was interested in. I am normally not a fan of dark chocolate, but I had a piece of 83% dark choco and it tasted amazing. It wasn't as bitter as dark would normally taste. It also didn't leave a slight gross feeling in my stomach shortly after eating it. So I bought one white and one dark chocolate. I'll come back again for their friendly customer service and great products! read more

No denying it, this is by far the best place to get hot chocolate and tasty hand crafted chocolates. Everything about this place is fresh ingredients, Hand crafted chocolates with flavours that you would never think to combine, but they do and it's magic for your taste buds. I'm a believer? I'm generally not a chocolate fan, and definitely not a hot chocolate fan, but Koko Monk's changed my perspective on chocolate - I didn't even know chocolate could taste this complex! Koko Monk has amazing drinking chocolate, which is thick, rich, spicy even and yet not overwhelming nor too sweet. They definitely take pride in their chocolatiering and it really shows in their products. The authentic hot chocolate is a good starting point imo as it will blow your socks off compared to the packaged stuff in the grocery stores - think of it as adult hot chocolate with dark chocolate complexity and bitterness. If you're a white chocolate fan, they have an equivalent that is surprisingly not that sweet (which I was floored by since white chocolate is always sickeningly sweet). Both are fantastic. Brunette bangle is also interesting - it has curry in the drink, which makes a lot of sense when you drink it. Curry and chocolate have a natural affinity together when I make curry so why not make it a drink? Cold testament plays on the sweet and spicy notes, if you're into that. Beyond the drinkable chocolate, I think the actual chocolate themselves also speaks volumes. The flavors tingle your palette and will bring your mouth on a roller coast. They describe the chocolate in flavor profiles which have valleys and crescendos, which you find hard to believe until you actually try it. Just follow their directions when consuming the chocolate (i.e. crunch it in your mouth and let it melt) and then you'll go through the rhythm of flavors. Personally I really liked the coco colada (guava) but all the individual pieces are great. The bars are also amazing and unique, particularly the jasmine tea choco bar. It's tea, it's chocolate and somehow neither overwhelms the other. Koko Monk is great and should definitely stop by. read more

I ordered the Raw 75% Dominican Rizek cause I am on a restricted diet for health reasons and the ingredients list looked very healthy. I was pleasantly surprised at the balance of dark and sweet in the bar. Truly beautiful and satisfying! I love that they mention the zinc which is great for your immune system. Yesterday was my third time visiting Koko Monk hot chocolate lounge-it had been a whole year since I went and I honestly have to say it was the best hot chocolate I ever had. I love that it's all sweetened naturally without refined sugar, and the man working there was very knowledgeable about the products. You can get your hot cocoa with a variety of nondairy milks or cow's milk. They presentation is amazing as well. The flavour I got was called "Shoulder Kiss", which is a white hot chocolate with a beautiful lavender flavour. I also had an apple tart, which wasn't something I would usually choose (I'm a chocoholic!), but was so impressed by its delicious-ness! Neat cafe with a large variety of hot chocolates, including a selection of white hot chocolate. I came here for the hot chocolate fest and tried their black Peugeot which I think may be a hot chocolate fest exclusive. It came with a vegan hazelnut agianduja praline. The hot chocolate was a dark nutty hot chocolate, slightly spiked with whiskey, but it was so slight I couldn't taste it. I liked that it was not sweet and the nuttiness. The nuts were grounded, so the hot chocolate wasn't smooth so to speak. I didn't have high hopes for the praline, but it was delicious! Wouldn't have been able to tell it was vegan. A neat thing about this place is they have chocolate flights (only on saturdays) which looks adorable and definitely something I would love to try. What we tried: + Strange Gravity / oregano & melon dark chocolate with dash of anise / $7.85 (M) + A Nonconformist's Plea for an Imaginary Summer / tomato and raspberry white hot chocolate with rose / $7.85 (M) + Brunette Bangle / curry dark chocolate with coconut / $7.85 (M) We were planning to come here for the hot chocolate flight last Sunday, but it is only served on Saturdays. So instead, we created our own flight. These three hot chocolate are served in the flight, and each has its unique flavor! I personally love the "Brunette Bangle", when curry meets chocolate. The whipped cream is sprinkled with curry powder, and the first sip was weird with a strong curry flavor. Then it got more subtle, and it blended well with the dark chocolate. My least favorite was the white chocolate, because it is too sweet to my liking. The tomato flavor was strong, and I barely tasted the raspberry flavour. Koko Monk Chocolates has been calling my name since I moved in the nieghbourhood. As a lover of all things chocolate, I had to check this place out. Right off the bat, the place is clean, but not very well designed. I couldn't quite pin point why, but I did not feel charmed. The menu looked amazing though. You can tell the owners know a thing or two about chocolate. I loved that they had some classic hot chocolates, mixed with a few surprises. I finally make a decision, and swipe my card for $10. My eyes widen a little bit as I realize I just paid $10 for a hot chocolate. He asked if I wanted whipped cream, and I notice they used Kirkland whipped cream, so I opted out. Overall, the flavour of my chai hot chocolate was good, but not worth $10. I did like how they drizzled the cups with a chocolate syrup, that actually tasted like high quality syrup, not hersheys syrup. In all, the hot chocolate was good, but the design, cost and use of Kirkland whipped cream were a little bit of a turn off. read more

The best chocolatier in town! It always brings me so much joy to come here and enjoy a nice cup of unique hot chocolates. My favourite is the chamomile and fig hot chocolate. Paul is also very passionate about what he does. He offered my friends and I tasters of the truffle filling and explained the chemistry of which flavour would hit your tongue first. It was such a treat. The joy doesn't end there cause you can bring those delicious chocolates home with you. Koko Monk is a gem. read more

It has quickly became an annual tradition to head Koko Monk for their hot chocolate flights the hot chocolate fest. It's always a bonus when you have 3 in 1 in your hot chocolate order! This year includes the from left to right 1."Brunette Bangle" (a neat flavour of curry and coconut liquor that actually works!), 2. "The Shape of a Particular Bliss" (watermelon white hot chocolate with parsley - something very new and interesting), and 3. "Cosmic Rose"(thick hot chocolate with very light hint of rose and cardamum) for the Saturday I visited - they change up the flavours every week. I wasn't too much a fan of this week's flavours unfortunately. The watermelon flavoured one had a very strange bitterness from the spice and melon that just didn't really meld well with the chocolate taste. And the cosmic rose was just too thick. The Brunette Bangle was my favourite of the 3 and I wished I saved that last to savour! The flights this year didn't include any treats either which was a bit of a bummer too. Hopefully it is just one of the years where they were just a little off. Will definitely come again to try their other menu items as their service is always very friendly. And it is great they open a bit later than most desserts shops! read more

This is Koko Monks newest location, and just happens to be extremely close to my home. How convenient! I wandered in today as I've never been to their original shop, and wanted to see what types of chocolate they had. The guy working there was so friendly and helpful, and let me sample a couple flavors. You can definitely taste the quality of the ingredients, and all the flavor combinations are really unique and work well together. I bought a couple chocolates to take home, the Passion fruit Caramel and the Mango Tequila Chili. Both tasted amazing. I will definitely be back! read more

The new Koko Monk Lounge is much more spacious than its original location! The hot chocolate is also just as delicious with special flavours only available in this location. We tried a flight with the Cosmic Rose, Brunette Bangle, and The Shape of Particular Bliss. (Hot chocolate flights are available Saturdays and you have to purchase 2 flights at once) The Shape of Particular Bliss was a special drink for the hot chocolate festival, but the other 2 are part of the regular menu. The Brunette Bangle has curry in it and is my favourite out of the three. It smells of curry spices and the taste is a perfect mix of chocolate and spice. read more
