We tried a variety of chocolates from ChocolaTas after walking by this location on a whim! Leaning towards the dark chocolate pieces, we were able to try the raspberry, cherry, grapefruit caramel, O Canada (hazelnut), vanilla and original. While they were all pretty good, the favorites were definitely the grapefruit caramel and cherry. Not only is the chocolate itself good, but so is the presentation. I have ogled and drooled over the scrumptious and beautiful chocolates at this chocolatier in Granville Island many a time (their island in the public market is located just a bit beyond the bagel purveyor, in the center of the market, FYI). They've always had gorgeous chocolates, and gorgeous packaging, too: beautiful tins, small and medium and large, with stunning artwork on them (definitely keepsake tins), many with Vancouver or Canadian themes, or artwork by local artists. Some already have a selection of chocolates or caramels in them, but you can customize what treats you want to put in the tins. And the chocolates themselves are often adorned with edible art (colors or pictures) or are sculpted in artsy shapes. Really beautiful. If one needs a thoughtful gift for anyone who appreciates high quality, beautiful chocolates, I don't think you can go wrong here. And just the tins themselves are lovely gifts. They have a huge selection of truffles in a gazillion flavors. Also, when I was there, they had these chocolate bear "sculptures", in either milk or dark or white chocolate, depicting the bear standing up holding a Canadian flag. OMG it was so adorable. These cost $14.99 each. Really unique and so darn cute. The woman working at the counter was super friendly and gave me a sample of a chocolate-covered caramel. How did she know I LOVE caramels? One of life's great mysteries. It was bloody delicious, and the texture, just perfect. Recently I visited some friends in TO who brought me to Niagara-on-the-Lake. There were dined in a restaurant where, for dessert, they served us ice wine in a shooter glass made entirely of dark chocolate. It was one of the most delicious things we had ever had, and I was determined to serve this dish when I got home to Vancouver, at my next dinner party. Anyhow, I got the bottle of that ice wine and started researching, where can I find those chocolate shooter cups. And Mr. Google lead me here, to Chocolatas. So I called them and ordered them (a bag of 12 chocolate shooter cups cost $12 and the "best before" date on the bag shows it's good for a year. I got two bags of them and was advised to keep them in the fridge). The woman said she's served these chocolate cups at her parties and they're always a big hit, and she gave me some ideas of liquors to put in them (Bailey's may be my next spirit I try in these cups!). We stumbled upon ChocolaTas at the Granville Public Market. I'm always looking for fine chocolate and the presentation is what drew me in. They're located toward the middle of the market and not too hard to find. Everything was neatly packaged and perfectly designed. You could get chocolates prepackaged or select your own assortments. I decided to get a few small boxes and decided not to leave a review until I actually tried the chocolate. While I was sold on appearance, they by far surpassed any chocolates looks wise on my trip, I still needed to taste them. So obviously I gave them five stars! So amazing, and high quality chocolates in every way. They had the cutest little tins all ready for Christmas and all sorts of other Christmas chocolates. A specialty chocolate store located in Granville Island, their bright chocolates caught our eye so we got a few singles to go. Unfortunately like macarons, they were finished in a single bite but an absolute delicious mix of flavors in every bite. This shop caught my eye when I was browsing through Granville Public Market! They offer a variety of really interesting flavors here. Some of their chocolates are dome shaped, some have contemporary designs on them, and some even have cute animals on top! Since these chocolates were pretty expensive, I just bought a small box that I was able to customize. I chose the dark salted caramel, the ladybug (hazelnut cream), pepper and mango, and a dome-shaped one. The lady behind the counter put it in a pretty teal box with a white bow that reminds me of a Tiffany box! These chocolates make great gifts- too bad I didn't share LOL. read more

The Chocolate has pretty good flavor to them. Had the Mojito Mint & Rum and that was not bad. I could taste the rum more than the minty mojito flavor. I like the color of the chocolate. Next one up was the Earl Grey Tea, the earl grey flavor was not that strong. maybe its probably because I had it right after the Mojito. Next was the Green Tea. the green tea is a lighter taste. Would be good refreshing. But I can't really taste too much of the green tea. Maybe I should have ate the chocolate in a different order. Last one I had was the Dark Ganache. I like that dark chocolate bold taste. Overall the chocolate were not bad. But I have had better and smoother chocolate. Tastewise it was interesting. With the beautiful and diverse selection of chocolates, it's hard to walk by chocolatas without at least trying a few pieces. Although a little pricy, the flavours are delicious and so interesting, and the quality is clearly great! My fave was the whisky pear, but my family loved all the ones we tried. Probably one of the cutest shops to visit inside the Granville Public Market. Order chocolates individually, pick up an elaborately wrapped gift box, or build-your-own box. I chose a box of 4 which enabled me to choose two circle-shaped and two rectangle-shaped chocolates. I also was able to choose the tin box to take them home with. I went for the 'Granville Island' imprinted one. The selection is quite vast, making it extremely hard to choose. They are also very decorative and adorable. I did go for a catchy lady bug and bumble bee shaped one individually in addition to the ones I selected for my box. Almost too cute to eat and expensive at $2 a pop. One of the great things about my visit to Canada this weekend. Friendly, charming, and very engaging staff, along with a very interesting mix of choices in the case. I've said it before and I'll say it again here--I can kinda tell which chocolates are the good stuff, but, really, I am shopping for gifts at a place like this. It doesn't have much chance of making it to my mouth, especially if it turns out to be really, really good. Half the chocolate I bought this morning is already gone, and, if this tells you much about the quality on offer here, I didn't get to try any (not that I insisted or anything). I focused on the truffle case at one end. They have about three dozen different options, ranging from simple milk chocolate, maybe with some almonds, caramel, or fruit flavor added, up to choices with sea salt, rosemary, ginger, cinnamon, pepper, and other infusions. That deep end where the oddball flavors are is where I focused, because I know what will make me look good when I get home. The lady behind the counter sized me up right away and threw in a couple of additional recommendations to round out the little bag I was filling, and they will probably turn out to be the stars of the trip. The chocolates here are made well with high-quality ingredients, well-modulated recipes, and attractive decoration on the outside. Whether you're the one presenting the chocolates or you're the one unwrapping the chocolates, it looks like this place is an absolutely indispensable resource. Are you lured in by artfully designed sweets sporting names like "whisky" and descriptions like "stem, pits and liquor"? Well, for years, the closest I have come to tempting my tongue has been leering at Chocolatas while ordering up some Oyama across the hall. But that changed today. I said "Just one" but really, with that many choices, it was impossible to stop there. Cherries, whisky, sea salt and the "Granville Island" in hand, I went from a leer to a gorge. And I don't regret it. These little truffles are perfect for a indulgence while browsing the stalls or for a gift. Yes, if I were a tourist, I would buy one of the Vancouver inspired tins and fill it with Vancouver named chocolates. You can't resist. It's more fitting than a keychain with a beaver on it, right? I wouldn't go so far as to say they're the tops in the city, but they're a-ok for a splurge. Not only does the chocolate taste good, but it visually stimulating. It might be a little pricey for these chocolates, but with all the designs, is not it worth it? $18.00 for the Vancouver Time Tin. The salesman was very nice and congenial. He told us how this place won the local chocolate contest this year and the competition was pretty close to their competitor, who surprisingly uses their chocolate. o_O He gave us each a sample of the chocolate since the ones we bought were souvenirs. This place is still a secret in Vancouver. It is located inside of the Granville Island Market, but once found you will be met by lots of choices. They offer so many unique and creative variations that it is difficult to choose, but whatever you end up with, it's seem always to be an awesome choice. Wim Tas, who came from Belgia (that is where they make one of the best chocolates in the world) has created this beautiful shop. If you meet him in his shop, he can give you terrific recommendations on milk and dark chocolate types. And if you happen to speak some German he understands that as well, since he studied there. I can recommend Horse Head, Diamant, Zenzero and Four Spices. If you enjoy Chocolate and also like the Granville Island Market, you have to give this place a try. Amazing. I stopped by ChocolaTas on a trip to Granville Island and was mesmerized by their display (OK, if I'm being honest, it doesn't take much when there's chocolate involved). After speaking to the most helpful clerk EVER, I decided on the 20-piece box and set about the task of picking 20 different flavors. The service that I received was excellent - the clerk was patient and made several suggestions based on my personal preferences. I didn't feel rushed at all. I wish I had asked her name so that I could call her out in this review. In terms of the chocolate - it's delicious. There's not much else I can say to top that. They have a variety of really interesting flavors such as vanilla + star Anise, sea salt + Rosemary, pepper + lime etc. There are favors that I normally wouldn't go for that I absolutely loved (the vanilla + Anise being one of them). Their chocolate is fresh and will definitely provide a foodgasm. Try the chocolate-dipped strawberries - they are to die for! In terms of price, it's a little expensive (i.e. a 10-piece box will cost you $18.50) but definitely worth it. I'm pretty sure you pay more at other chocolate shops for lesser quality chocolate. The only down side is that I'm going to have to eat the entire box myself. Such a shame ;-) read more

They emblazon their website with "vegan chocolates" advertising, have signs about it in their counter window, but don't actually sell vegan chocolate. They don't add any dairy but can't guarantee that their suppliers don't. Strikes me as very lame - as vastly expensive as they are, they should have a good command of the production from bean to bar, or else they should stop claiming that they sell vegan chocolate. read more

Chocolates were $1.50 a piece and Chocolatas also does beautiful and unique gift boxes and provides chocolate fountain rentals for small and large parties. Mmmmmmm - good! We first discovered Choclatas at Granville Island, but were soon at their Abbotsford factory outlet store to learn more about their chocolate magic. There, the staff have more time to not only tell you about their fine chocolates, but go over anything you want to learn about chocolate and its history .... all the staff, and owners are incredibly informative people and a real pleasure to meet. The 4-Spices, Java, and ZenZero have got to the tastiest chocolates known to man; and the good thing there is no preservatives in them ... all the more reason to eat them quickly. read more

Love the chocolate! One of the best chocolate shops in Vancouver. We always go to Granville Island Market when visit Vancouver, and ChocolaTAs is a "must" to stop by. Just one suggestion to the owners: having members of the family with food allergies, we were happy to see some chocolates of a vegan variety. We happily pointed at some and asked a seller to keep and to pack them separately. To our amazement she added some non-vegan chocolates to the pile of vegan ones, and packed them together, even though we tried to tell her that they were not vegan. You know, for people with dairy allergy it could be quite a serious contamination. We couldn't risk giving the vegan chocolates to our dairy intolerant family member. Just a question- why to create vegan chocolates if you contaminate them later anyway. Quite disappointing. I wish, your personnel would be trained better. Please, improve. read more
