I popped in to pick up some treats today and met Glenn. What a fun person to talk to about chocolate. I ended up with a variety of goodies along with a scoop of their Sour Cherry Gelato. It was phenomenal. This is chocolate art at the next level. Aside from being beautiful, they also use natural and organic, fair trade-certified chocolate as well as couverture made with some single country of origin cacao, such as Dominican Republic, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, and Tanzania. If you are a chocolate connoisseur, this place will make you very happy! Hand-made, high quality chocolate is the way to go.

Gem Chocolate is located on 41st Ave at Kerrisdale area. It's real gem! They got 4th consecutive year award for The Best Chocolatiers and Confectioners in America 2015 again! Congratulations to GEM! I really like French designed chocolate and handmade natural ingredients chocolate! If you like the Lavender chocolate, I would say they make the best lavender chocolate in town! I bought a small box of chocolate, Dots D'orange, Irish, Lavender Love and Dark Chocolate! They're all delicious! Besides handcrafted chocolate, the fair trade organic chocolate bar is an option too! Matcha Black Sesame chocolate bar - It's very creamy and sweet. Sea salt - It's mediocre. French lavender -It's smooth with light lavender flavour. However, the staff/owner need to be more friendly!

A tiny store that has some quality artisan chocolates. A lot of flavours are award winners. They also have chocolate bars and gelato.

Hot chocolate festival is back again! GEM serves up a different hot chocolate each week till the end of festival. The week I went they were serving hot chocolate that's made with the world's rarest cacao: Fortunato No. 4. They also sell these by the bars. Not sure if they are limited in stock though. I did get a piece along with my hot chocolate. The lady told I wouldn't taste any bitterness in this chocolate and bitterness was not found. It was very enjoyable as it did not leave a dryness in your mouth. The hot chocolate itself was not too sweet but it was too rich for me. It was a very small cup for $7 but I really wish I had someone to share this with.

What a beautiful shop!

OH MY GOD! you need to come try Glenn's Blueberry Milk Chocolate Ganache & Caramel Sea Salt chocolate. the price is affordable if you are looking for premium/ high end chocolates. I would definitely suggest to everyone to come here over Thomas Haas as you get to speak with the chocolatier personally. At GEM's, there's a wide selection from Gelato, Coffees & Teas, milk, white & dark chocolate and also chocolate covered nuts. Advice: even if you don't live in Vancouver, Glenn also does shipping, both nationally and internationally.

We stopped by on our first day exploring Vancouver, and Breka being open 24/7 is already a win. We grabbed a mix of drinks and pastries to share. - Chocolate-Dipped Almond Croissant -- thin chocolate shell that added a unique texture - Cheddar & Chive Scone -- moist, not dry like most scones; loved the cheesy top and chives baked into the dough - Mango Coconut Mousse -- refreshing and clean-tasting, though a bit sweet for an Asian palate - Apple Strudel -- classic and simple; powdered sugar + big apple chunks - Almond Croissant -- super flaky with plenty of marzipan filling - Cretzel Ham & Cheese Melt -- croissant-meets-pretzel fusion; panini-pressed perfectly with melty cheese and ham - Steak & Cheese Panini -- solid; chipotle mayo and green peppers gave it a nice kick - Chai Latte -- light and well-balanced - Hot Latte -- creamy with the perfect coffee punch - Bienenstich (Honorable Mention) -- I wanted this so badly! It's a German classic with a crunchy honey-almond top and creamy vanilla filling sandwiched between two yeast cake layers. They only sell it whole, but an entire cake is just $16.50 CAD ($11.70 USD!) -- an unreal steal Breka bakes everything fresh daily, and you can taste it. This location was popping on a Saturday morning. Plenty of seating, though we snagged one of the last tables for four. There was a bit of a line, but it moved quickly. If I lived in downtown Vancouver, Breka would have my money every weekend.

Tried the pistachio donut which was amazing and fluffy. We also got the steak and cheese panini and a French toast sandwich. Personally, due to the cheese and ham being very limited in the French toast sandwich; the sweetness was overpowering. The steak and cheese panini was delicious but I would prefer that it was warmer on inside.

I ordered the regular 70% hot chocolate with cow's milk and a bit of whip cream. Maybe i should have gone for the drinking chocolate but my drink simply was not nearly chocolates enough. I had such high hopes when i walked in since the place has a wonderful chocolate aroma but my drink was very average. I would put it on par with the hot cocoa at Starbucks. It's right beside the Performance Works building. I don't know how long this shop has been here, but in all my life I've never noticed this place until now. I happened to have just come out of an afternoon show at Performance Works and as I was walking away from the Performance Works building, I happened to turn my head and see this shop, so decided to check it out. They're a small shop/ workshop that does tours which teach how chocolate is made. When you walk in, you can smell chocolate in the air. The lady in the shop offered some samples of their chocolate. I tried their Tanduay Rum chocolate and their Earl Grey Tea chocolate. According to their website their chocolate is award winning. To be honest though, I wasn't blown away by what I tasted. It wasn't bad but it also didn't taste to me like it was award winning chocolate. I noticed a sign though that said they had a drink which was part of the Koolfest. This is a new festival that started this year and is a celebration of cold drink creations from vendors of the annual Hot Chocolate Festival. Kasama's creation was a Filipino Cacao Husk & Kape Cold Brew with Vanilla Cinnamon Syrup and Ube Cold Foam. I hadn't had any Koolfest drinks yet, this one sounded appealing and to be honest...I'm the kind of person who tends to feel guilty about taking free samples and then not buying anything! So...having sampled the Tanduay Rum and Early Grey Tea chocolates, I decided to buy a Koolfest drink. Not much of a coffee person usually. This might be only the second time I've ever ordered a cold brew drink. I very much enjoyed this drink! For me to enjoy a coffee beverage, it has to be sweet and this one was sweet...but not excessively sweet. I loved the Vanilla Cinnamon flavor in it. It really hit the spot.

Food and Drinks: The food and service are consistently good, and compared to many other cafés and patisseries, it offers excellent value for money. The hot chocolate and coffee are standout. The lady behind the machine clearly knows what they're doing, because every cup is spot on. The sandwiches can be a bit hit or miss, but our recent visits have been great. The smoked salmon croissant is served cold (they always check if that's okay), and even so, it's one of my favorites. The portobello sandwich, served warm, is also rich and full of flavor.
