I popped in to pick up some treats today and met Glenn. What a fun person to talk to about chocolate. I ended up with a variety of goodies along with a scoop of their Sour Cherry Gelato. It was phenomenal. This is chocolate art at the next level. Aside from being beautiful, they also use natural and organic, fair trade-certified chocolate as well as couverture made with some single country of origin cacao, such as Dominican Republic, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, and Tanzania. If you are a chocolate connoisseur, this place will make you very happy! Hand-made, high quality chocolate is the way to go. read more

used to love this place when the original owner ran it. new owners and it looks a mess inside. what does the back look like where they make the chocolate? i can't support a business that is cluttered or ugly when the aesthetic is part of a luxury choc experience. Go elsewhere. read more

Good chocolates with interesting flavour combinations. The fillings are silky smooth and delicious. Eye-catching designs and good service.

First off, I would never call myself a fan of chocolates even though I worked by Purdy's before; you don't have to love what you sell. But anyways, I was in the area for a dinner and decided to drop by really quickly with the family since my mom had some chocolates from this place earlier in the week and had been raving about it nonstop. (My mom does not eat sweets at all, period. No ice cream, no candy; my mom dislikes them all). So after hearing her talk about this place's chocolates, naturally we had to drop by and check it out for ourselves. It's a small shop but they have a good variety of chocolate pieces in the case and the designs are out of this world. Each flavour has it's own unique flavour and design! They don't do samplers so I bought a piece and tried it on the spot. The Matcha chocolate piece even has a green tea ganache center. The piece was very well balanced between the chocolate and green tea ratio that you can still taste both distinct flavours. I shared the piece with my aunt (who loves chocolates and green tea) and she got a couple of pieces to-go as well. A lot of their chocolates have won awards in all sorts of competitions over the years so would say it's a place to check out if you like chocolate or are in need of a gift for someone. Overall, pretty surprised at how good the chocolate piece I had was not only in terms of flavour but the designs and details that they put into each piece is amazing. read more

Gem Chocolate is located on 41st Ave at Kerrisdale area. It's real gem! They got 4th consecutive year award for The Best Chocolatiers and Confectioners in America 2015 again! Congratulations to GEM! I really like French designed chocolate and handmade natural ingredients chocolate! If you like the Lavender chocolate, I would say they make the best lavender chocolate in town! I bought a small box of chocolate, Dots D'orange, Irish, Lavender Love and Dark Chocolate! They're all delicious! Besides handcrafted chocolate, the fair trade organic chocolate bar is an option too! Matcha Black Sesame chocolate bar - It's very creamy and sweet. Sea salt - It's mediocre. French lavender -It's smooth with light lavender flavour. However, the staff/owner need to be more friendly! read more

Gem Chocolates - Q - Chocolatiers & Shops Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

Hot chocolate festival is back again! GEM serves up a different hot chocolate each week till the end of festival. The week I went they were serving hot chocolate that's made with the world's rarest cacao: Fortunato No. 4. They also sell these by the bars. Not sure if they are limited in stock though. I did get a piece along with my hot chocolate. The lady told I wouldn't taste any bitterness in this chocolate and bitterness was not found. It was very enjoyable as it did not leave a dryness in your mouth. The hot chocolate itself was not too sweet but it was too rich for me. It was a very small cup for $7 but I really wish I had someone to share this with. read more

The name of this place is right on point. Each peace is indeed like a chocolate gem. Unique flavors, really nice appearance. Flavors are updated regularly. Also Glenn is extremely friendly person. He is very passionate about chocolate and can tell you a lot about it. Packaging is also nice. I'd say that Glenn's creations are worth every penny. If you are in Vancouver - do stop by and get some. read more

I tried this for the first time a few days ago. The taste and texture of their gelato was amazing and I'll be coming back. I was expecting higher price for a so-so experience but was delightfully surprised. Also liked the fact that no tip was demanded upon payment. This is a trend I'd like to see expand to other stores where you're not waited on by staff. read more

OH MY GOD! you need to come try Glenn's Blueberry Milk Chocolate Ganache & Caramel Sea Salt chocolate. the price is affordable if you are looking for premium/ high end chocolates. This is my favourite chocoletier in Vancouver. I've been trying to find good chocolates in Vancouver for quite some time now and this is it. All their chocolates are made in house by the chef who you will see in store. I love that their chocolates are all sugar free, without preservatives, organic and fair trade. What more could you ask for as a Vancouverite? I order the chocolates to go in a bag and pick flavours that interest me. They all taste amazing but here are some of my favourites: - Matcha - Maple and Caramel - Jasmine - Basil and lemon - Blueberry - Earl grey The prices do add up from $1.69-$1.75 a piece so I usually can't afford too many... But I do splurge here once in a while just to show my support! Keep up the good work Gem Chocolates and please don't ever leave Kerrisdale! read more

You will, undoubtedly, be "Blown Away" with the high quality of the meticulously selected ingredients, and the mastery of the award-winning GEM Chocolatiers. As always, a truly regal treat! MW read more

Their chocolates have good quality in taste and design, but the staff put the pieces of chocolates together with the brochure inside the small plastic bag in which they touch each other. Even though the staff was friendly and she tied the plastic bag nicely with a ribbon, the chocolates and the brochure should kept separate due to hygiene reason and due to the pure quality of chocolates. They should have known this in regards to the price that they charge. This factor makes me hesitate to return. read more

Driving through Kerrisdale on the way to a meeting, my co-meeter (a new word I've just invented) and I dropped into Gem Chocolates on a whim for a quick pick-me-up hot beverage. "CHOCOLATE! WHAT'S THAT PLACE!" I shouted, as the storefront caught my eye from the window of the vehicle. They advertise themselves as offering handmade, artisan chocolates made from organic, fair trade and Rainforest Alliance certified Belgian chocolate blended with natural ingredients, with new and seasonal offerings regularly added. The chocolates on display were stunning, and they also offer gelato. They serve a range of Mighty Leaf teas as well as espresso-based coffee beverages. I'm didn't inquire as to what beans they use since I was grabbing a tea, but the coffee was proclaimed to be satisfactory. Service was not outstanding; granted, it was the end of the day and I was pretty tired and awkward myself. As for ambiance, there's a couple of stools available at the shop, but it's not really a place you'd want to stay and make yourself comfortable. Their chocolates are available in a wide variety of flavours, and I selected two to sample, the Praline and the Berry Blue, which is described as "a rooibos blueberry tea infusion in milk chocolate ganache". Of the two, I preferred the Berry Blue, and I'm tempted to say (from my extremely limited sampling) that the more exotic flavours are probably better bets here, since the unit cost is higher than one is probably used to paying for chocolates and the "ordinary" flavours, like Praline, are not really mind-blowing. The texture of the chocolates was not as smooth as other chocolates I've sampled, most recently the ones from Beta 5. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to pick up chocolates from here, but it's nice to know that I have options when it comes to artfully decorated and imaginatively flavoured chocolate delights. Prices are high, then again, it's probably worth it for the occasional gift for that special someone in your life, because nothing says "you're awesome" quite like "I just spent $20 on a small box of beautiful edible art pieces for you to devour" (protip: my special someone is myself). read more

The friendly and knowledge owner recommended several flavors from his treasure chest of sweet treats. I chose the caramel cream, basil, and blueberry ones. Each was exquisite. Gem Chocloates were labelled top ten in Vancouver by the Vancouver Sun during its Easter edition. Well done, you were right. Each chocolate is made with such care and attention to detail. Every flavour is delicious, subtle, perfectly balanced and simply lovely. Nothing shocks the taste buds only delights them. Although every flavour is wonderful, the perfectly made caramel, the lemon and passionfruit are my personal favourites.
