We usually go to the Thierry in downtown but this time we went to their Mount Pleasant location which is surprisingly spacious! They have a lot of places to sit indoors but also had a couple of outdoor seating options. We just quickly stopped by for a drink but then got intrigued by their chocolate hazelnut croissant. It was sooo good and decadent! Wish it was bigger. We also got their strawberry matcha, honestly, I had high expectations considering it was Thierry but the matcha was a bit too strong and didn't blend with the strawberry at the bottom till I was half way done with the drink. Their mocha was amazing but there were no surprises there! The staff were nice and pretty fast, the cafe was pretty crowded when we went but they still got us everything in just a few minutes after placing the order. Visited the mount peasant location, it had plenty of seating inside and was very spacious. They had a large selection of cakes and dessert. The earl grey bergamot cake was delicious. The earl grey was subtle and the bergamot taste was not over powering the flavours. The cake was not too sweet and light. Came for one treat, got two. Will be back for a third. Friendly staff, lots of seating. A well-designed space that doesn't feel crowded, even when busy. You're greeted by a sweeping counter full of gorgeous-looking cakes and confections - a feast for the eyes, which may be too big for the stomach. The treats: - Mango Tart. Colourful but disappointing. The coconut crust/base was rock solid and hard to cut into. The swirl of mango pieces rested in a lime sabayon. Loved the zesty freshness of the lime, but it overpowered the mango flavour. In a dark room, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was a lime tart - Black Forest. One of the popular Thierry choices. A small mound of light cream on top of a meringue core with a bed of sponge/cake nestled in chocolate mousse and a hard chocolate shell. There's a lot going on here. Maybe too much. Tricky to get each layer on the fork for that perfect bite. The brandy-soaked cherries helped cut through the richness, but do dominate the flavour. On that point, it IS quite rich so might be one to share (though admittedly I eat it solo immediately after the Mango Tart which may have been a rogue decision...but choose your own journey). Both my selections were a bit disappointing for the price, but I may just have been unlucky. Will return to try out the pastries and chocolates. I decided to go to Thierry to get a couple of items to go. Their pastries are delicious but can be a little pricey. They're quite cute, and the flavors are usually well-balanced. The pain au chocolat was so flakey and buttery. I've had their drinking chocolate in the past and it's very rich and decadent. The display case was pretty empty when I went. Interior is pretty sleek, and there's a good amount of seating available. There's not a lot of other options in the area so they sort of win by default. To go orders are pretty well-packed. -1 star because the employees were too busy chatting with each other to help me. I expected better for a café with their prices. Super classy Parisian patisserie and cafe. The sprawling display of pastries on the backdrop of dark wood panelling is very impressive. Even the bathroom is beautiful and high tech. The acoustic inside is pretty boomy and it can be hard to hear anything when it's busy, which seems to be often. I've mostly tried the pastries here, but my one foray into the savoury menu with the butternut squash soup did not disappoint. The soup was silky smooth with a delicious herby crumble to top it. For pastries, the most memorable so far are the caramel hazelnut tart and the lemon tart, but I have so much left to try that I may have yet to find my absolute favourite. You will need a sweet tooth to really enjoy their pastries. They have good teas too. It seems like they're often slow getting the Viennoiseries (croissants, etc) out in the morning when they open, which is annoying because these are the things I want to eat at 8 am, not the cakes! I've showed up a few times hoping for a quick morning snack and had to walk out because they only had desserts ready and I don't like to take this gamble because if I'm going out in the morning I'm usually on a schedule. However I like that they're open late and still have many options available in the evening. Also they lost my tea order once... they made a new pot for me right away when they realized, which didn't take too long, but I had to stand around for a while. For example, check out the photo of the water dispenser available to customers, someone has anticipated customer needs. Everything is spotless, service staff keep an eye on tables - they pop up and clean them as patrons leave. We had Americano, apple turnover and apricot danish, all very good. The Americano was strong without being bitter, absolute perfection. Condiment area was fully stocked with everything you need to customize your beverages. This location is absolutely gorgeous and quite large with lots of seating. However, I've been twice now and noticed that it's always been quite full and hard to get a seat because half of the tables are occupied by a single person on their laptop - I wish they would introduce a "no laptop" policy for some of the tables so that it's easier to find a table if you're meeting up with a friend as these tables would have quicker turnover as well. As for food/drinks I've tried the hot chocolate, various macarons, the chocolate marquis cake, the chocolate trio cake, the custard tart, their chai latte, and special hot chocolate fest drink. Personally I find their cakes a bit too rich for my liking but if that's your jam you'll love them. Their macaroons are absolutely divine and I really enjoyed the custard tart and chai latte as well - I'd skip on the hot chocolates since they're quite milky in taste and not chocolatey enough. As for service, this is probably where it falls a bit short. The staff aren't very friendly and I find that they're quite disorganized as well - typically one person will grab any pastries you want, another will ring you up, and a barista will make your drinks. However, both times that I've gone there's been miscommunication between them with the order and it's been quite slow. Overall, gorgeous cafe with some really great pastries as well - just be prepared to not be able to find a seat easily and spend on the higher end of price point for cafes! read more

I came here during the hot chocolate festival earlier this year. It was relatively quiet on a weekday morning so I decided to dine in then. Service was excellent and the staff was very helpful in making recommendations on the chocolate truffles. I bought 6 pieces to try and they were all delicious. The hot chocolate and mendiant created for the festival were equally delicious. I loved the dark chocolate taste. The simple cheese and ham croissant was yummy. Light buttery croissant filled with ham and Emmental. I also like the cakes I bought. Everything I had was great. This location is definitely much easier for me to get to than the downtown location. This second branch of Thierry is quite new in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. I always wanted to visit during the day time but due to work I finally could be able to come tonight. I came here as I wanted to see how their shop is like other than looking at people's photos on Google. It was very grand, beautiful and elegant! Love their interior design! Even the washroom was very nice! Secondly I would like to try their hot chocolate (from their 2021 hot chocolate festival menu). It was quite good! But be expected that it would be very sweet. Ask for dark chocolate if you cannot handle the sweetness of milk chocolate. I also bought a couple of small cakes (passion fruit cake and tiramisu). They were good. However, I personally still like the ones from Thomas Haas more The customer service was excellent here. Different types of food is served by different staff. They were quite professional. I started with the cake section. They would ask for my name and enter it into their system. Their computer would remember my order. I kept moving forward and finally got to the cashier. I ordered the hot chocolate and told the cashier my name and she could be able to pull out my order and charge me on all the items that I would like to pay for. The cashier was very polite and friendly. She explained to me and answered my questions about their beverages and food. Due to Covid-19, the shop has built some plexi-glass between tables. But there were still a lot of customers around 8pm. In terms of doing business during the pandemic, it's pretty good! I hope the covid-19 will be gone sooner than later, so everything will get back to normal and customers can go to the shop and enjoy the drinks and food normally. There is some street parking outside the shop. However, sometimes this neighbourhood is quite busy during day time. Thats why I would prefer to go in the evening which has a bit more street parking. Thierry Chestnut Tart Season edition! A huge piece, and it is too sweet for me. Lots of dark chocolate shreds, falling off assembles tree barks ahha. I like the candied pecan on top. Tiramisu I like it! Definitely not on the sweet side, mascarpone is very light and balance well with the chocolate. Nice presentation is a bonus. Lemon Tart Not bad, sweet with acid quite refreshing when I eat it with the tiramisu. The filling texture is like a mousse. Correct me if I am wrong. Danish 10/10 for their puff pastries. Main Street is a really good place for foodies as there are many restaurants of different cuisines in different price levels nearby. As a French pastry lover I bookmarked this place for a while and eventually I could try it. Thierry has a classy deco with a very spacious interior. The counter exhibits many choices of pastry and you can tell they are made with good quality. I ordered Roasted Cauliflower Sandwiches, Millefeuille and Strawberry Pistachio Choux to share with my beloved one. We also ordered the coffee. The foods was served nicely on a wooden tray. At the first glance I can tell I have no doubt with the taste and quality as I had been to many cafe and restaurants in Paris. It is the instinct to tell by the appearance and smell. We tasted the sandwiches first. The Roasted Cauliflower sandwiches tasted surprisingly good with the other ingredients (as seen in the pics). I thought I could finish the whole without sharing. The Millefeuille and Choux were great and authentic. Just like those I had in Paris. They made me feel missing Paris. Beautiful! I can definitely feel that you are paying for the luxury at Thierry! The prices at this cafe are definitely charging a premium, but it should be expected from a place like this! When I went, it was a weekday at 1PM, and I was shocked to find that the inside and the patio were completely packed! But thankfully there was still a couple tables for my party to sit outside. For such a small space, there are a lot of options for seating, depending on the amount of people inside. At times it felt very cramped in the store. The service was similar in a way to a Breka's, where there is one person to serve you for pastries, and one to take your drink order, so it really feels like you are getting treated well. I ordered a Pistachio Latte and a couple macarons, and I paid around $17. The portions are pretty dainty for their lattes, but the flavour was definetly there! Sadly, my friends did not have the same experience with their pastries, as they tasted a bit odd in their ingredient choices. If I had the choice to come back, I personally wouldn't as there are tons of cafes with better pricing and taste, but I see why someone would want to patron such a place like Thierry! read more

I've ordered the Canele Bordelais a few times before because it's not commonly found and is delicious. Perhaps it's due to the cold weather and the cake wasn't warm from the oven, but the one I had today was harder than I would have liked. I would definitely recommend it if still warm from the oven. In the last few times that I have been to Thierry, they seem to have ran out of dessert variety. It is mainly chocolate desserts. Yesterday, I had macaroons and tiramisu. -Macaroons were excellent. Right textures and I like the two layer flavourful filling. 5/5 stars. -Tiramisu was okay. Presentation was nice but the entire dessert seems like mainly cream and the taste was very subtle. A new location close to home means wet ave to try any place that sells cakes! We tried their tiramisu, black forest, yuzu grapefruit and passionfruit. The tiramisu and black forest were only okay (hence the 3 stars) while the passion fruit was delicious and the yuzu also tasty although a tad sour for my tastes. I find that the prices are too high for the food that is served as it wasnt anything too special and the service was actually quite slow. I also had their pear danish which was again, nothing special as the pastry wasnt really flaky and the pears on top were too sweet. It won't be likely I will be visiting again soon but perhaps someday to try other desserts? read more

This was my first visit to this Thierry location, I've been to the Alberni one quite a few times and have loved it in the past. Today unfortunately I wasn't balled over by the new locations special hot coco for hot chocolate fest - it needed a touch more steamed milk or something to offset how rich it was. If you absolutely love decadent melted chocolate in a cup, this is def for you but it was too much for me. When we got home, we ended up steaming our own milk to add and put some Cointreau in it. I gotta say for $10 a cup, this wasn't worth it for me. Our bill came to $32 with tip for two very small hot chocolates, and two croissants take-away. It's really expensive for what it is so I'd say the value isn't there for the quality I got today unfortunately. We also got walnut financiers with our hot chocolates which was really tasty! Best part of the order. We also got croissants and sadly my croissant didn't have that lovely flakey texture and lacked a buttery taste. My partner got a pain au chocolate and his was better so I think my batch of regular croissant just wasn't their best bake, it had big air pockets like bread and not many layers. Also, if you're not a fan of crowds during Covid, I'm not sure I'd come here during busy hours to sit in as the restaurant is really busy. They have all the tables separated with dividers but it was alittle too busy for my comfortability. Overall will probably stick to my local Small Victory! read more

Luxe expansive marble and glass interior with ambient lighting showcasing spectacular French pastries, desserts, chocolates and coffee. Full espresso bar with all drink variations are available. The desserts are beautiful and taste delicious. You can taste the fresh ingredients. I wanted to try all the pastries but alas it is impossible in one sitting. The Pear danish was nicely done crispy butter pastry with poached pear and custard in the middle. Filling a little sweet for me. The Savourin was spectacular. Rum soaked brioche cake with freshly whipped cream and berries on top. If you like rum cake this is the dessert for you. Very comfortable ambience and wonderful French music.
