I visited Chez Nous bakery for hot chocolate festival limited item. #065 Paris Brest - A rich dark hot chocolate blended with homemade hazelnut praline. Served with classis paris brest pastry. Paris brest was so delicious...!! Choux Dough was fluffy on inside and crispy on outside with firm butter cream filling which paired with hot chocolate so well. Hot chocolate itself wasn't really too sweet, and hazelnut flavor elevated to another level. , sooo good! I wish this item would be a permanent menu. Chez Nous is a cute bakery situated on the quiet side of Yaletown, offering truly authentic French pastries and tarts. The staff here are very knowledgeable and professional. They have the classic pain au chocolat and pain suisse, but also unique items such as the coconut chocolate croissant! Their whole tarts are also amazing for birthday celebrations, as they're lighter alternative to the traditional birthday cake. I have mixed emotions about this place. Here's why. I've been there a total of 3 times. Took me a while to gage what I think of the place to give it truly an honest review. Here it goes...... A sit down go to chill place. No. A coffee place. No. A warm n friendly morning vibe. No. Great Pastries. Yes. Their pastry is very tasty. Their Americano I got to go and received it served in a cheap generic paper cup with an awkward lid not designed to sip or drink out of slightly burnt my mouth. The coffee itself tasted awful to be honest and had to chuck it in the bin. The interior is tastefully set up but don't expect to find a table. The staff. Well....not sure if it's just their choice of branding .....the whole French nonchalant demeanor. Just comes across rather frigid and distant. Not warm and friendly. Just a slight grayish vibe through the service front. For a coffee pastry shop you'd want upbeat, awake, excited and happy, no? As much as I love my bread and pastries. Every time I walk by Chez Nouz I choose not to go back, and truthfully it's not because of anything tangibly specific. Well, aside from the terrible coffee that burnt my mouth. Stopped by Chez Nous and everything was amazing! The sausage pastry and pan chocolate were absolutely delicious, and the matcha latte and biscoff latte were perfectly made--smooth, flavorful, and comforting. The service was quick and easy, and the cafe has such a cozy, welcoming vibe. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to for both the pastries and the drinks! read more

I thought this place was great (albeit high priced but you are in Yaletown so.... ). Comfy inside; a few tables for couples. Well lit - not overly bright, nicely decorated. We finally paid a visit this morning to this recently opened patisserie in our neighbourhood. It was fairly busy when we walked in around 0915 but there were still a few tables inside and outside available. My husband and I had an almond croissant, a pan au chocolat, an Americano and a cortado. He loved his almond croissant and americano. There are only few places in town that pass his americano / long black test and Chez Nous has now been added to his list. My pan au chocolat was buttery but yet flaky and light. It was better than many croissants we had on a recent trip to Paris! I also enjoyed my cup of rich and creamy cortado. The interior was fresh, modern and inviting. The seatings are comfortable, too. I love that the thoughts the owner(s) put into the vignettes like the back wall and the entryway to the washroom. I'm so glad that Chez Nous is only a 10-minute walk from us! read more

I am always on a hunt for good matchas and cute cafes and chez nous ticks both the boxes. Their apricot matcha is a must try. They have great cookies too but go in the morning if you want to try them as sometimes they are sold out by early evening. I came here probably too close to closing so they didn't have very many selection of baked goods left. I was hoping to try a croissant but I felt like $5 for a plain croissant wasn't worth it and would preferred to have paid more for a specialty croissant. I ended up getting an iced raspberry matcha and thought that the drink was a bit watered down and that there wasn't enough matcha flavour. It was quite refreshing given it was such a hot day though. read more

i stumbled upon this new little neighbourhood gem of a bakery and café on homer street, and it was such a pleasant surprise. turns out they've just opened about a month ago. you can actually smell the buttery goodness from a few doors down, that warm, comforting scent that pulls you right in. such a super cute, cozy spot. there's a few tables for dine in. there's a behind the scenes action at chez nous, in this day, there were rows and rows of beautifully twisted dough laid out. the space has such a warm, welcoming vibe, with fresh flowers, soft lighting, and that kind of lived in charm that makes you want to stay awhile. the drink menu is simple and to the point. i can already tell i'm gonna need to come back. i grabbed a matcha latte with oat milk, raspberry and strawberry puree and omg. easily one of the best matcha lattes i've had. smooth, creamy, and the berries added just the right amount of sweet and tartness. hours of operation: tuesday to sunday, from 8 am to 6 pm. definitely coming back, there's way too many treats here i still need to try. pretty sure this place is gonna become a regular stop. read more

Came here on a Sunday morning. There was a line, but it moved relatively quickly. We chose several things and ended up getting in line for a second round after our first. I definitely recommend their delicious coconut chocolate croissant with almonds. This was the pastry we bought at the end of brunch, so we could have it later in the day again. Flavorful, balanced, not too sweet, with some great crunch. The pistachio babka kind of fell flat. It was both too sweet (where the filling was) and too bland overall, without much actual flavor. The pistachio raspberry tart was good, but not remarkable. The matcha raspberry drink was delicious. No artificial flavors, just delicious matcha with tangy and sweet raspberry puree. It wasn't too hard for someone in our party of two adults (and one child) to grab a table with enough chairs. The bathroom is clean. read more

A new hyped up bakery in Yaletown, place was pretty busy when we arrived around 9am during the weekend but we were able to get seating immediately. Love the interior decoration from the different paintings (available for sale), cute little china and flower pots, and the warm ambiance. Pastries are a bit of hit and miss from my experience, but they have pretty unique options that would make it worthwhile to go back. We decided to get a few items to share: 1. Pistachio Babka ($7): There's a nice pistachio spread in the middle but I'd hoped it's more evenly distributed since the spread inside the swirl was pretty bland. It was okay but I was expecting more since this seems to be one of their signature item versus other bakery. 2. Coconut Au Pain Chocolate ($8): Really nice double baked crunchy texture with generous butter flavour and plenty of chocolate inside. With that said, somehow I could not taste the coconut but almond instead. Makes me wonder how the almond croissant will taste though, it looked really nice on the display. 3. Marble Cake ($6): Texture was pretty moist without being too sweet. I would have preferred stronger chocolate taste and felt like it could do with more butter. 4. Quiche Bacon and Cheese ($10) served with a salad: I am not a quiche person in general so this was so-so for me. It is nice that they have a few savoury options, but the reheat seems to be uneven as the middle part is still room temperature. I also got Raspberry Matcha Latte ($8.5) since it looked super aesthetic, but I have to say it's pretty disappointing as somebody who regularly drink ceremonial grade matcha. The drink tasted like it used poor quality powder and even the raspberry felt artificial (was so sweet it felt like they used a commercial jam). Save your money to buy matcha from places like Paragon Tea Room instead. read more

It's busy here. Popular. The coffee was good...I had a flat white. Inside there are 8 or 9 tables that seat 2 people so if it's busy either try to find a seat outside or take out because seating is hard to find. Not a place I'd come to do work on my tablet/laptop though...there is a sign requesting please limit seating to 1 hour read more

The Brioche Suisse was really bad. I don't know what happened but the vanilla cream seemed overcooked and almost curdled. The rhubarb pastry was really nice though. The macchiato was just ok. The bakery itself is really cute inside. Perhaps we would return to try a few different items. read more
