What I got: Sakura Flight A board featuring Matcha Tiramisu Ball, Sakura Latte, a cup of Mascarpone Chantilly, and a side sweet.(Short bread cookies) Matcha Tiramisu ball was very interesting. It had more chewy mochi like texture, and filling was dense. I could taste light chocolate type flavor from filling. And I really liked having it with Mascarpone Chantilly. It made texture more smooth and tasty. Shortbread cookies were decent, standard cookie. I liked them. Sakura latte needs more refinement. It was more like cappuccino than latte, with a lot of form. Went shopping and wanted to have a coffee so decided to stop by faubourg. I ordered one of their cherry blossom special. It definitely looked very pretty and appealing. However i found that the cherry blossom filling togethet with the sweet decorations on top made the eclair a bit too sweet to my preference. Service was average and appropriate. I also ordered an espresso macchiato which is my usual go to. However the size of the cup caught me by surprised because there was so much milk in it and i thought they mistakenly gave me a cappuccino. This cafe is right opposite the Yaletown roundhouse train station so very transit friendly. They don't have a lot of seats inside so it's more of a takeout spot but luckily when we went there, they had empty seats! We tried there lavender and vanialla/seaseme macroons - I liked the vanilla one more because the taste of lavender was very faint. Also tried their mocha and matcha iced tea, both were 4/5. The matcha taste was barely there. I also got their lavender soda which was AMAZING! I even asked the barista what syrup they used and I'm planning on getting it. Faubourg was the second dessert/pastry store we went to on our last trip to Vancouver. The place had a smaller selection of sweets than some other places, e.g. Thierry but also more focus on sandwiches and savory items. The lemon yuzu tart was good, but overall, I would say Thierry has the edge. Faubourg does also have some nice mini versions and they also have a tea set at a reasonable price. Overall, a decent place for dessert or a light bite in a convenient location. read more

Oh. My. Gosh. SO GOOD! I've never really been to a real patisserie such as Faubourg, and my first experience surely set the bar high. We ended up coming around lunch time, so we got sandwiches as well as a tiramisu. The sandwiches did take a while to come out, however understandable since they probably had a lunch rush. Thankfully, my brie and prosciutto on multigrain bread was so worth the wait. Afterwards (and admittedly, a little before) our sandwiches, we had the best tiramisu I've ever tasted! We came during the Eras Tour weekend, so the bakery was decked out in pretty flowers. The inside was crowded, but weather was nice so we sat outside. I'm glad we did, because I feel like our experience was all the more better because of it! If I go to Vancouver again, I'd love to try more pastries because they looked so good. I like this coffee shop. It is cozy and emulates French vibes. I had brunch in the summer with a friend once and have frequently visited the davie location. Today, I really needed a pick-me-up, so I ordered their tiramisu mocha. It was delightful. There was a line-up, but I definitely got my coffee shortly after my order, and I didn't have to wait long. They have both breakfast pastries and cakes and such for a sweet tooth treat later. The brownies to go looked amazing. The selection here is really extensive for a coffee shop: sandwiches and crepes all made to order, soups, various sweet and savoury baked goods, plus coffee and tea and more drinks. Nondairy milks are available but it looks like none of the food is vegan. There are plenty of vegetarian choices though. Very hard to make a choice since everything looked delightful. I had a tomato and bocconcini sandwich, a hazelnut mousse dacquoise w/ pear compote (the pastry of the month), and a lavender Italian soda. Was going to order a crepe but the barista told me it would be 15-20 minutes when I was hoping for a quicker lunch, but maybe next time. I really liked my sandwich, anyway. I had it on the multiseed bread which was hearty and fresh. I loved biting into the balls of fresh bocconini too. Sometimes sandwiches with pesto come out too oily for me, but that was not the case here. The pastry was also fantastic! I loved the contrasting textures and richness of the hazelnut cream, and the tart, juicy chunks of pear inside were a nice little surprise when I had been expecting something more jelly-like. The soda was good too. It was hard to mix the lavender syrup in, but once it got mixed it was very floral, and they didn't use too much syrup to make the drink too sweet. They have the clean, elegant Parisian aesthetic down inside, but I most enjoy sitting on the patio which is covered and elevated away from the sidewalk level, so you can relax away from the weather and crowds. Very welcoming and thorough service from the staff member in training who took my order. Drinks are called out from the bar, but food is brought to your table when you eat in. FYI they have mugs for coffee and plates and silverware, but my cold drink came in a plastic cup. Nice lunch spot! I had a lavender latte and a mozzarella/tomato/pesto sandwich on a baguette. It all tasted very fresh. For those two things, I spent about $25, so it's one of the more expensive spots downtown. If you're looking for a spot to settle down after visiting the art gallery, or some good coffee as a pick-me-up, I recommend checking this place out. I asked about their accommodations for my peanut allergy, and the staff were kind and helpful. They were able to point out which things would be suitable for me to eat, and took care and concern that I had a serious allergy. 4.5 - A cozy little French Cafe with a great selection of fresh and creatively made pastries and sandwiches. We come here quite a bit. Our usuals are the double chocolate pistachio croissant and the vegetarian spinach and feta croissant and we love them both. Their Americanos could be slightly better, but that's because I tend to like my coffee quite strong, so usually I get my Americano with an extra shot of espresso, I find the single to be a little watery for me. The atmosphere and environment is really lovely and tastefully decorated and all the windows gives you a cozy place to sit, observe and just Be. I find the staff varies, as sometimes when we walk in there's a warm and attentive friendly greeting and sometimes there isn't. Viennoiserie downtown! So where can I get a breakfast to go (or eat in - or out, too)? It was an easy walk from our hotel to the Faubourg in the light cold winter rain. Here I was greeted by a wide range of croissants, etc. The double baked hazelnut chocolate croissant was sublime. The extra crisp and chocolatey hazelnut flavor - wow. It was a bit messy on the hands, so watch out to not smear on your threads. The pain au chocolat was classic and the almond croissant rounded out our selection. Coffee was good and service on point. Takeout was great for me, but not sure if I'd be inclined to come back to sit a spell. Perhaps it's downtown but I didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling there. Recently visited @faubourgbakery for the first time and was very underwhelmed. This bustling cafe downtown has been a spot that I've been wanting to try for a while now. They always seemed to be super busy so I had pretty high expectations. Which is why it almost saddens me to report that everything I tried was...lacklustre. First off, I feel like the ordering process was poorly designed (downtown location). You walk past the pick-up counter and the display case to order at the cashier. After you place your order, you're asked to return to the pick-up area by the door to wait for your food and drinks. I can see this becoming an issue during a rush because everyone will be crowding by the door and customers waiting to order will be cut off or confused. The line-up area has the display case on the left, and a wall on the right; you're literally funnelled into a makeshift lane towards the cashier, and then spit backwards to get your order. It would be much more efficient if it was a one-way process ie. walk past display case, order at cashier, wait at an area on the same side (think Thierry). The cutlery return area was also right next to the pick-up counter which caused further foot traffic jams. Placing the macarons beside the pick-up counter didn't help either. You select the flavours in the pick-up area; which, again, means you will most likely be awkwardly blocking someone's way as you're pointing to which brightly coloured calorie bomb you'd like to take home. It wasn't even that busy when we dropped by and we still found ourselves having to do awkward maneuvers in the tight pick-up area. New customers were trying to get past us to line up, and people who ordered ahead of us were trying to grab their drinks and food. One wrong move and you might end up with someone's hot drink spilt all over. They really need to reconfigure this layout to make it more efficient. I came here after visiting the art gallery across the street. It was still early so I decided to try a bunch of stuff. I do love a good french pastry with coffee in the morning. I had the ham and cheese croissant, canele, a chocolate cake and some macarons with coffee. I felt they could be better. While the food was a notch higher than the usual cafes here, they paled in comparison to the other patisseries specializing in French pastries (eg Thierry and Thomas Haas). The canele was disappointing. The croissant was ok. The chocolate cake was not too bad as were the macarons. Still, they did not impress me much to make me want to go back again for the food or to even think about them. If you are a snob about French pastries, I will suggest to skip this place. read more

I just bit into a macaron and it melted in my mouth. That's kind of all you need to know. It was absolutely lovely and wonderful in every way that it could be. Worst coffee I've had since 2018 when living in Germany (Germans can't make coffee to save their lives). This place makes German coffee places look like Michelin starred coffee houses. I walk by this cute bistro every day to work and get a butter waft of goodness and somehow I manage to make it passed without splurging on a croissant. Was here for a light lunch with my girl friend and it was the perfect break to grab a light lunch. I'm a huge fan of Parisian themes so this has my name written all over it. I had a smoked salmon quiche and green salad for a $9 special. I thought the salmon was a bit overcooked so I think I may try the mushroom leek one next time. The green salad was nice complete with dried cranberries and sliced almonds. I got a vinegrette to go with it and it was yummy. The salad nicely balanced out the quiche My friend ordered a fruit tart (can't remember the actual name) she loved every crumb! They also had smoothies on sale for $3, regular is $5.50 I think. We both got the green smoothie. It was unexpected with the ginger and peach. But I did enjoy that it wasn't sweet at all. I think it's definitely an acquired taste. We stopped by this coffee shop right after Revolver because we were attracted by the colorful macarons. It's located near Robson Street in downtown Vancouver, so my friend and I thought it was convenient to have our vehicle parked there while grabbing a bite of light breakfast before shopping spree. Macarons were ordered along with a veggie croissant. We thought the macarons were a bit too sweet, but then again, I don't really eat sweet stuff a lot. So we may be off, but we didn't think the macarons tasted very bad. Good news is the macarons are very small, so you can even throw one entire macaron in your mouth and swallow it down. We walked by Faubourg on Hornby Street and saw all the delicious pastries with beautiful presentations. We were very excited to try some and order a beverage. We ordered a dish of afternoon tea trio. They were matcha black sesame, caramel rooibos torte and chai cake. We also ordered an iced chocolate milk. When we drank the iced chocolate milk, it tasted like the Dairyland chocolate milk or worse. We felt this iced chocolate milk was just bland that it was not strong enough like the one I had at Thomas Haas. We were not sure if the ice made the chocolate milk bland or worse, but the flavour was not strong enough. It definitely lost some marks on the flavour. We tried all three pieces of cakes. All of them had great presentation and looked beautiful, but we only tasted the sweet flavour but nothing else. Comparing these cakes or pastries from Faubourg with ones I had at Ganache Patisserie, Ganache's were definitely a winner! I personally feel that both the beverage and pastries that I tried could have a lot of improvements; and it would be a good idea to go to the competitors and try their beverages and pastries in order to stay competitive in the market. read more

Faubourg is a French bakery chain in Vancouver. This location is in downtown Vancouver on Hornby Street and about a half block off of Robson Street, the main shopping street in the city. This bakery has the feel of an upscale classy patisserie that is bordering on frou-frou. I stopped in on a Sunday morning several months back when I was visiting Vancouver to pick up some pastries to go. The bakery has an array of offerings including bread, cakes, coffee, pastries and macarons which is perhaps their most popular specialty here. In fact, you actually pay for your macarons first before stepping into another line to choose and pickup your selection. There was an outside placard indicating that they have a croissant and coffee special in the morning, but I decided to choose from their larger assortment of offerings. I got the pistachio croissant ($3.80) as I haven't seen that item before at other French bakeries. Usually you see almond, but not pistachio. The croissants here are relatively quite compact and small compared to the selection at other French bakeries which are relatively large. Though it was small, the flavors of the pistachio croissant were good. It was buttery and the croissant has the crunch and flakiness that I look for. Also got three of their macarons which cost $2 each. The macarons are also petite compared to ones I have tried previously elsewhere. I got the salted caramel, lavender earl grey and litchi rose, which was the special macaron of the month. The texture of the macarons tasted as expected, though the flavors of the macarons weren't very pronounced except in the lavender earl grey which was my favorite for that reason. The lavender being particularly evident. The offerings here are a little on the small side and a bit pricey, but the USD-CAD exchange rate makes it more palatable. When you factor that in, it is actually cheaper than the French bakeries in Seattle and I found that the quality is as good or better here. First time here is was bit of a surprise, I was coming out of Cafe Artigiano and I noticed this beautiful cafe right beside it, the name looked familiar, my memory reminded me of the location in Kerrisdale and how I loved their pastry. I soon found out that they have only been open for several months. So with already a coffee in hand from Cafe Artigiano I walked in with my friend. Hmmm options fresh breads, French Macarons, croissants, sweet and savory pastry. They had a sampler of mini desserts for 16$ so we decided to go for that. It was delightful, I had a blueberry tart flaky crust and fresh filling also had a layered cake with white and chocolate cake. I had to share with others so I couldn't tell you what theirs tasted like but it looked yummy. My second visit a week later, I wanted to try their latte and almond croissants. Latte was average and croissants was ok Ive had better. The desserts last time was way better. The girl at the bar was really friendly and talked to me while I waited for my latte. Which I really enjoyed, I love people who love their job! My girlfriend and I sat outside on a sunny Vancity morning to people watch. I really like this place. The decor inside is really fancy but why stay inside, when you can be outside. I debated on giving this place a 3 stars if I could give 3.5 I would due to the taste of the croissant and latte had higher expectation but over all I really don't have much to complain. Taking on the success of Thierry, might as well start lining these type of pastry coffee shops to flood up the downtown core, and lo and behold Faubourg finds an even better spot of real-estate to lure sweet tongues in. If you have been to their other locations, it is the trend of this city lately, then you know the offerings. Located right across from the art gallery, and a stone's throw away from the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, it's prime real estate, and the business in here shows that. If you hate crowds, waiting around, noise, practically all of the above, well, turn the heck around and leave, cause this place is busy, and it's the same variation of crowd that you will get at Thierry, everyone enjoying their coffee's, macaron's, croissants, light flaky fruity pastries, maybe a soup and some designer sandwich.... that and taking up a spot with their big purse, big jacket hanging, and chatting up a storm while people watching. So why was I here you ask, one... I needed lunch... two... my mother needed lunch.... and three... well the places we wanted to go to... were all packed and we needed something light to eat... as lunch. This place has a cafeteria style lineup, as you go past the beautiful display cases making the most unsuspecting take a glance.. and then.. buy their pretty items, like walking into a boutique.. only this one serves up pretty looking food. So while we were lining up, we didn't know what we were even going to have.. but we were determined to order something light. Saw one of their flatbread sandwichs which was a beef and wasabi, and paired it up with the soup of the day, which was a yam soup. We put our order at the cashier, paid, and was given a number as they advised the food would come to us, cool, now time to find a seat in this packed place. Luckily, timing wise, we found a person just leaving, and one of the servers just cleaning the table, and we sat outside on the covered patio portion under some heat lamps. As I said, it's a great place to people watch, whether you are sitting inside, or outside, just a different view.. this place does feel like a bustling French coffee shop, in the heart of downtown. Our food eventually came, and we went ahead and ate. I was a real fan of the yam soup, not too thick, and definitely not thin like water, sure it was in one bowl, but the amount was a good portion to share. The flatbread sandwich wasn't bad either, I couldn't really taste the wasabi like sauce, but the flatbread was nice and thin, and toasted to perfection. If you are looking for a place that is convenient, a place that has this type of chic Euro flare, a place where you can get a coffee and a nibble, not having much time.. but realizing you have sat here for over an hour, it can happen, and probably will if you do not 'grab & go'... just hope you find a seat.
