Went in during lunch time but since we had a big breakfast we just went for some pastries and coffees, one thing we noticed is that they are a bit understaffed and the ones that was on duty had to take orders, make coffees, clean tables, and serve meals! I've always loved Paul in France. My favorite item there is a true French sandwich. A perfectly fresh baguette with a delicate crust served with ham, cheese, and butter. So of course that's what I ordered at this Paul, the first I've been to outside of France. I was not disappointed. It was an absolutely delicious and authentic sandwich. This Paul also has an assortment of pastries. You order the pastries or the sandwiches at the counter and then sit anywhere in the front of the restaurant to enjoy them along with your coffee drinks or what have you. There's a separate seating section in the back where a full menu is served, including brunch, traditional dishes such as steak frites, and an elaborate formal tea. Took my daughter for her 25th bday weekend and this place was delicious. Make sure you make a reservation for Sundays because it can get busy. Pretty aesthetic spot, they have a outdoor seating as well as indoor. We saw the new matcha drinks with cold foam and decided to give it a try. Service is ok, we just got drinks to go so not much comment on that. We got the cotton candy cold foam matcha and the raspberry cold foam matcha. The color of the matcha is like a murky light green. I think based on that on its own I can tell it's not good quality matcha. The matcha was also whisked in a tiny milk frothing pitcher. I tried the raspberry one and the colour of the cold foam was literally pale white/cream. It did not taste like raspberry at all and the drink was disgusting. It was about $9 and to me it was not worth it. The foam also dissipated so fast. Wouldn't recommend coming here for matcha. read more

Got the Paul's classic breakfast and the potato's were baked perfectly (crispy outside and fluffy inside), the bacon was crispy, and eggs were the most textbook sunny side up eggs I've ever gotten from a restaurant. Pizza Royal $20 Flat bread style, not greasy, clean tasting, gorgeous presentation, perfect for those who can be sensitive to smell. This would be a perfect pizza for lunch at the office. It hits the variety button and it's not offensive to others in close quarters. Millefeuille Nature $13.50 This was the highlight, flakey pastry and custard. Very nice. Tartelette Multifruit $13.40 Presentation is pretty, well executed crust- however lacking in flavour. The fruits are pretty- but it lacked a sweet glaze as the fruit has been drying out and out of season. The custard is gummy. Recipe needs to adapt to season. I went to Paul on Robson and got the Hot Chocolate Festival item called "The Show Stopper" to go. The woman who made it couldn't find the black cherry sauce until another employee came over and took it out of a fridge and gave it to her. She gave me a little cup with 2 mini croissants and a bunch of mini marshmallows that were NOT TOASTED. She was looking at her phone when I was asking her where was the DARK & RUBY chocolate sauce, and the black cherry sauce. She didn't seem to understand (or care) and reluctantly put some of the chocolate sauce and I had to ask again for the black cherry sauce. She didn't apologize and just seemed confused. I sent an email to Paul and didn't receive a reply. I was very disappointed. The price was $18 for this hot chocolate! NOT WORTH IT. read more

The Mille feuilles in particular was absolutely perfect, except the white glaze on the top, which I removed. Some of the pastries on display looked "tired", maybe from the day before? Really elegant French style coffe shop along the busy stretch of Robson. Parking here is pretty awful. Some metered spots at best. This is one seriously elegant looking coffee shop. Hipster meets modern and old school European design. The high ceilings give the place a very spacious feel. The front area feels like a modern European coffee shop, but the rear area is like an old style restaurant. Staff are friendly and professional. Service with a smile. Special mention. I had the boozy coffee hot chocolate, which is powereed by 1.5oz of Kahlua. The combo comes with a piece of tiramisu. The hot chocolate itself was definitely on the sweet side, but I was able to dilute it with a glass of water. Served with some nice fluffy cream on top. The tiramisu was also quite tasty. I'm not quite sure why there's such a poor review of this place--I thought it was amazing. I did dine in both the restaurant and cafe area on the same day, and I have different experiences for both. Restaurant: The restaurant is a different area than the cafe portion, and you have to walk through the cafe to get to the restaurant. While sitting here, I felt as if it was more spacious and there was more lighting. Similar to other restaurants, the staff comes to your table to wait for you. My friend and I came here for brunch and got two different dishes. While they took a while to come out, considering we were 1/2 tables they had at the end, service felt quite slow. However, the food was so filling and delicious in the end. Cafe: The cafe is definitely more cramped than the restaurant portion and a lot busier. Like any other cafe, you order your drinks and food at the front then sit down at a table. Be ready as there may not be seating when you come so you may have the wait. I would recommend a soft dessert like a cake or muffin as I ordered the berry tart and it was HARD. The crust was so hard that I could barely cut through it without crumbling and it made the eating process so difficult. The drinks were also okay. Overall, the inside of the restaurant and cafe were both so pretty. Food presentation was beautiful and it was a great place for brunch. However, if I had to recommend one or the other, I would recommend trying the restaurant here rather than the cafe as the ambiance and service was much better. read more

This is an absolutely gorgeous space with excellent French food and service. Between us we tried and enjoyed many things. Specifically I really enjoyed the crepe with spinach and mushrooms. I also had an excellent mocha, which was a nice way to get a taste for their fine very thick hot chocolate without it being too overwhelming for me. My husband loved the matcha tea, my niece preferred the matcha latte. I didn't realize when we booked, but there was a promotion that sent us home with a dozen free macarons with a minimum spend of $50. I can understand why some reviews are 3 stars. My friend and I wanted to check out Paul so we went here last Wednesday. There are 2 separate dining sections the fancier area and one by the entrance. Reso is required to book fancy area. I ordered Le Paul salad while my friend had a salmon croissant with coffee. Food was nothing special. Salmon croissant was expensive and small. My salad was fresh it tasted okay. Atmosphere was clean and beautiful, food could've been better. My friend didn't like her coffee and the sandwich. Food was pre-made in expensive price. We enjoyed chatting in the afternoon without being interrupted by staff. I personally find Paul's Bakery to be overrated there can be a better option. read more

I'm surprised that this place has such a low rating. I thought Paul Bakery was cute, very Parisian, pastries and sandwiches were good and the coffee was delicious. We went there early on a weekday, so there wasn't much of a wait. My girlfriends and I ordered a variety of stuff, including their pizza, ham and cheese sandwich and their chocolate croissant. I had a mocha. It was very chocolate-y, and totally hit the spot. I'd recommend this place for casual breakfast for sure. I'd come back if I ever stay in the area! read more

My sister and I came here for the Hot Chocolate Festival. It was hard to choose between the 3 hot chocolates, but I'm glad we went with the strawberry. Absolutely amazing & elegant place! I had my birthday brunch here. I liked it so much that we end up making reservation for following day while we are in Vancouver. Our choices were salmon egg beny, cappuccino, english breakfast tea and freshly squeezed juice, raspberry tart. I loved everything! Service is unnecessarily slow. 2 cappuccinos and tea should not take 10 minutes start to finish. The cafe vs restaurant is confusing and seems to change based on the whim of the staff. If it wants to be a restaurant then be a restaurant and if it wants to be a cafe then be a cafe. The space is too small for both. The way they operate they should have a window for "the cafe" and use the whole place as a restaurant. The food is good and the staff is nice. But the way they operate is a complete turn off and reeks of arrogance of the owners. read more

Ideally I'd give 3.5 stars. PAUL is a posh French-style cafe with a split business model: counter-service cafe in the front with coffee, pastries, and light meals, and full-service restaurant in the back with bigger meals The interior is clean and very nicely designed and they even have a door person. I don't think I've ever been to a cafe with a door person and it felt over the top but was admittedly helpful when I had to bus my table outside. I was there for lunch and got a tomato and mozzarella sandwich, triple chocolate mousse cake, and an iced americano. The sandwich and cake were both really good. The sandwich had small cubes of marinated mozzarella which made it more flavourful than the usual caprese sandwich. The mousse cake had a great creamy texture and rich chocolate flavour. It was topped with a mini macaron so it was sort of two desserts in one. Kind of over the top but fun - the macaron was also very good. The iced americano tasted like over-roasted beans, which could have something to do with the fact that I got decaf. I don't remember the exact price breakdown on everything I got, but I remember my total was $32 which I wasn't exactly surprised by given the setting, but still is expensive for what you get. I think the sandwich in particular was overpriced. It's good, just not mind-blowing. It was fun to try the place but I'm not sure if it's somewhere I'd want to splurge again. read more

It is a busy place, even late at night. I guess there are not that many cafes which are opened till late in Robson area now. So this is a good place to rest if you have spent the whole day or afternoon walking around downtown area. We managed to get a table. It was self service. The cappuccino was good but the cake or pastry was terrible. It was hard and difficult to cut through. Another customer at the next table had her pastry flew off her plate when she tried to slice it. In the end, she gave up on eating it. There is another dining area further and that looks like it is meant for proper meals, not just drinks and desserts. I would say just have the coffee here and forget about getting any of the cakes or pastries. read more

This place is overhyped and living off the popularity from France. The pastries were good though, if a bit expensive with everything else considered. They have the music turned up so loud that the girl behind the cases couldn't hear us and we had to repeat our order 4 times to her. Eventually she just gave up. Then the cashier was rude when we corrected our order with him. They also have an open section where there's sandwiches and other things. They had uncovered macarons sitting in there and because of how loud the music was, people were leaning over the open food display to shout their orders. I saw someone's saliva falling in there, directly onto uncovered/packaged food. Luckily I didn't get anything from that case. Consider turning down the music. The person behind the cashier was rude and standoffish. He cut us off twice when we were trying to correct our order. And the service is astonishingly slow overall. Would not come back. Decided to stop by here and grab some desserts as we had just wrapped up lunch. Grabbed a chocolate eclair and a chocolate tart both were outstanding. The reason for the 3 star review is their service. Woman at the door acted like the place was super busy when it was empty and did not allow us to enter. Made us wait around for a few minutes for nothing. Terrible attitude and service. The desserts were phenomenal to say the least the chocolate eclair was decadent and the inside was not too sweet it was an amazing take on the eclair great for chocolate lovers. An impressive place with an unassuming name, Paul is where you go if you want to get a taste of France and the French ways of working together butter and dough while in Vancouver. And well...yeah, it's expensive. Having said that, I think its most memorable feature for me was the decor. It's a beautiful cafe with ample seating and floor to ceiling glass. A really nice place to enjoy a latte and croissant or gather some friends to share a whole tart. As for the pastries itself, we shared a strawberry mille-feuille and fruit tart. Both were fine. I didn't think they were too memorable, but they were tasty and cost $9. Even just before closing time, there was a huge line of people and the person before me ordered like 10 things to go. Seems like their eclairs are quite popular as one of the types was sold out. Maybe I wasn't trying their signature pastry. PAUL is a French chain of bakery or patisserie café restaurants. It was established in 1889 in France. We ordered hot beverages and pastries from them when we were in France especially when waiting for the train departure. We feel like that we are in Europe when we walked into their café restaurant in Vancouver. They serve daily fresh bakery and Parisian hot chocolate pretty similar to the ones in Europe. Our favourites were their chocolate croissant, plain millefeuille, palmier, canelé, chocolate drinks, and etc. You can even personalize your drink. I would not say that they have the best pastries in town, but I have a wonderful experience every time we dine there. The European atmosphere and style give us a good reason for returning. I feel like this place was overhyped. I thought it was going to have the same quality of food i once had in paris but i was disappointed. I had a cappuccino and the french toast. i felt the bread used for the french toast was inconsistent- some pieces were really tough and hurt the top of my mouth and others were super soft due to the syrup. all three of us had the same thing and a similar reaction - it was okay but not great. i will say the inside is beautifully decorated and very instagram worth. read more

Finally had the chance to visit this famed bakery from the land of croissants. Mind you, in paris, there are several paul branches all around the city. Yes, they do make amazing pastries so when they decided to open shop in yvr, i just had to try them to find out if they could replicate the goodness here. So one fine good weathered day, we decided to fall in-line and visit this bakery in robson. Let me just say it is very similar, but not same level as the one in paris. The chocolate croissants were spot on. Flaky and not dry. Made with outstanding european butter. we also tried the eclair, chocolate tart, and the Mille-feuille. All were very good. My only negative comment is that...there were all overly sweet. Too much sugar compared to the ones in Paris. And of course, the price is quite steep. Its not like you will be blown away or anything....there are equally as good bakeries in yvr with much affordable prices. Its just the name and hype. Would i go back? Perfect Awesome Unique Legend = PAUL. Brand spanking new French (founded 1889) bakery with that special 'je ne sais quoi' - I do say! Opening on Robson Street is a massively huge risk! Rents are astronomically high & many shops have died here after being wounded by the up & down economy & now the worldwide pandemic! Would I personally have opened up a shop here - no! But that's truly a decision that's above my pay grade & beyond my grade 5 education! This bakery is going to need to sell dozens & dozens of croissants daily to just make the rent payments! Yikes! Back in 2017 right here on Robson St a French bakery specializing in orgasmic tasting Eclairs, opened up & then shut down all of a sudden! Just like that ... poof it was gone! I wrote a review & was excited to go back but alas it disappeared without a trace - a case for Unsolved Mysteries perhaps!? So sad cause those Eclairs were the bomb!!! PAUL is a very stylistic funky cool bakery that will eventually offer indoor dining to go with their plans for more menu items. Currently operating on a 'tasting' session basis however, this has not kept the curious foodies away! I wish PAUL all the best of luck & success! Apparently this bakery is all the rave overseas so now Vancouver gets to have a taste! I had an excellent mocha with the best whipping cream I've had in awhile yet! Visiting Vancouver and decided to try this new French Bakery on Robson Street. The interior is absolutely beautiful with an elegant sit-down feel divided into two sections.....one of which is the coffee shop and the other the restaurant section in which I'd recommend reservations made if you're looking to brunch. Their pastries and sandwiches are top-noch and their Americano is one of the best I've had. Everything we tried that day was super fresh. I love that they are open until late and also serve wine. Their baguette sandwiches are wonderfully seasoned and very tasty. I tried the ham and swiss and the chicken pesto and loved both. Their croissants are literally melt in your mouth, but usually sell out after the morning rush, and their pecan tarts are crispy and gooey in all the right places. I don't have much of a sweet-tooth but what I loved about this pastry was that it was just the right amount of sweet and considering it was mid day...it was incredibly fresh, which means only one thing!.......they bake every morning or it tastes like it anyway. If you've ever read any of my other reviews..you'll know that I'm a bit of a coffee snob....yeah..their Americano....I wish I had gotten a large, because I could not get enough.
