LOVE the concept of this spot - no additional charge for plant-based milk, living-wage cafe. We ordered the strawberry matcha latte and a regular matcha latte. Both were delicious - the matcha latte with oat milk was extra creamy, and it was clear the matcha was high-quality. One of my favorite matcha drinks, ever! I also ordered a cowdog cookie, which I devoured before being able to take a photo of it - it was delicious and had great texture! Service was friendly, although the cafe is a bit small on the inside. I'd definitely come back the next time I'm in town!
3.5/5 A cute and cozy cafe in Vancouver! There's no tipping and no additional charge for changing your milk! We came here after my friend saw a Tiktok from the owner asking why there's a Yelp review saying "The oriental twink that runs this place is soo nice and cute!"; I died. I must come here to see this. I fear they were not there but the staff seemed very friendly! My friend and I got a hot Matcha with Milk and an iced Matcha with Oat Milk (12oz for $8.5). The matcha was smooth and lightly sweetened; I wish there was a stronger matcha taste and bigger size though.
Prob the most straight forward coffee/matcha shop I've been to. No whack ass last minute math, no awkward tips, just pay what you see. Matcha itself is or good but i would prefer the strawberry next time. Not too much of a grassy taste and free oat milk sub. Little bit of a wait but everything is made to order. Cut approved
I really like the aesthetics and concept of this cafe, but there are a few noticeable issues. The store itself is quite small, and considering its popularity, not well enough equipped to handle the amount of customers. It was extremely cramped inside and the line will always be outside the door if there's even more than 3-4 people. It's also in a bit of an odd location off of oak. The matcha was very expensive for a 12oz size (almost $9). And flavor wise, extremely milky and not very strong matcha, which was a big let down. For that price point, I'm expecting a lot better. While the service was friendly and the place looks very cool, I most likely won't return due to price & location.
I finally had a chance to pop into cowdog coffee. It's a small cozy space with a few tables and chairs. I would recommend stopping in for a quick catch up with a friend or a short solo break, as it gets busy and it's nice to rotate customers in and out. I had the hojicha, which was absolutely delicious. I had a sip of my friend's spiced cookie butter latte (less sweet) and I loved the warm spices and strong espresso flavour. I also appreciated the drinks being served in amber glasses. The services was lovely, and I'll definitely be going back.
Came at 9am and there was no line. Employees were so sweet and the store was incredibly cute. The cardamom bun was fun with the flaky salt, but it was very dense. Solid strawberry matcha, syrup had a nice tartness to it. I just wish the matcha flavor was a bit stronger.
I had been meaning to try this place after seeing the barista's reels all over my feed this summer! When their fall drink lineup launched, I knew it was time. There was a short lineup when I got there with a friend on Sat. afternoon but we got through it in around 5 minutes. The interior was small but cosy, there was room for about 4 tables and luckily we snagged one. The drink I had was the black cherry hojicha-- you can definitely taste the high quality roasted hojicha notes and the hint of cherry made it oh so decadent and fall without being too sweet!! I'd say it's worth it ($8) in terms of the delicious drink / quality and supporting a local business. Would love to come back again and try a cookie next time
Finally checked out the TikTok famous Cowdog Coffee and it totally lived up to the hype. The space had a super cozy vibe and I really appreciated their values. They don't ask for tips, pay their staff a livable wage, and don't charge extra for milk alternatives, which is a win cause oat milk is always a must for me. I ordered the iced strawberry matcha and it was delicious. Refreshing, not too sweet, and the flavors were well balanced. My only small gripe is that I wish the drink was a bit bigger for the price, but overall still worth the visit.
If there's one thing you get here, it's the White Chocolate Hojicha Walnut Cookie!!! Incredibly delicious and the flaky salt balances the flavors perfectly. And the texture... CHEF'S KISS! We also tried their Strawberry Matcha, which was just okay. The matcha was fragrant, but the strawberry puree was more sour than sweet. Lots of strawberry seeds, so you know they use real fruit at least! The "hojicha + milk" was pretty tasty! Nutty hojicha that was lightly sweetened. Very milky. I do wish it were sweeter, but if you like your drinks not too sweet, it's probably perfect for you. The hojicha quality was very high quality though, so I took home a tin to make the hojicha at home :)
Accidentally discovered my love for hojicha lattes here. I originally ordered a matcha oat milk latte but was given hojicha. After trying it I am a certified hojicha fan now. It tasted like a cross between milk tea and matcha latte. The people that work here are super friendly also. I told the worker about my mixed up order and he kindly provided my matcha milk. It just kinda sucks that there is no restrooms or wifi, making it not an ideal place to hang out. The inside is very tiny as well. Its more of a grab and go coffee shop.

They built a cult like following under the mantra "No tipping , no oat milk charge & living wage cafe." I didn't get food as I happened to stroll in at the end of the day... I ended up getting Strawberry matcha ($7.50) Orange pour over coffee ($8.00) The cafe itself is very tiny! The staff seemed pretty happy, they also sell merch (shirts, coffee accessories, and such) Expect to take your order to go as there is limited seating, waiting is around 7-10 minute during peak times.

The cup sizes are small, but cute. No extra charge for oat milk as well. There were 3 workers total and the cashier also makes drinks in between orders as well as serve the drinks. So, there is a bit of wait to order, but I would say it only took about 5-10 mins to get the drink. There was a line out the door when we went on a Sunday around noon. Seating was also full. We ordered our drinks for take out. They ask you to wait outside and bring it to you. Matcha milk, hojicha milk, and strawberry matcha. Personally out of the 3 choices the hojicha milk was the best. The hojicha was perfect amount of sweet and creamy. The matcha was not that sweet at all. The strawberry puree was quite sour and a bit too overpowering for me. Overall not bad! Would come back. :)
Sold out of cold brew when we got there-- no biggie. Shop is cute and has aesthetic decor, small and cozy space. There might not be enough space to wait inside so keep that in mind. The cups were disappointingly small but the hojicha was memorable for its delicious taste! The matcha latte was like any other shop's matcha. Service was fast and good, nothing special.
FINALLY got to try this place out on a recent trip to Vancouver. I got to try out their frozen matcha and the strawberry matcha latte. Frozen: 5/5 stars. Comes dairy free already? Heck yes. Was it the dreamiest, creamiest dessert I've had in awhile? Yes, yes and yes. The matcha flavor was strong, it was smooth, no complaints here. Will have dreams about this drink. Strawberry: 3/5 stars. I saw it was their most popular and eh honestly I've had better. It wasn't bad, but the matcha wasn't strong enough. It was more on the green milk side for flavor, but the strawberry was nice and not artificial tasting. Vibes: 6/5 stars. Super cute. Little mid-century modern vibe to it. The workers have cool vibes. The customers do too. All around fun and unique. Drinks also came out exceptionally fast even with a line! read more
This small coffee shop offers some unique and seasonal coffee options. The space is quite compact, with a few small tables available for dine-in. Parking can be a bit tricky -- if you're lucky, you might find street parking right out front. With limited space inside, expect a line outside if there are more than a few people ahead of you. We ordered the Earl Grey Matcha, Earl Grey Flat White, and a Pastéis de Nata. The drinks took about five minutes to prepare, and the staff worked efficiently. Their menu seems to rotate seasonally, so you might find limited-time or specialty flavors depending on when you visit. As for the drinks, they were just okay in my opinion. The flat white was quite strong, and while it included Earl Grey syrup, the flavor didn't come through as clearly as expected. The Pastéis de Nata was decent -- not too sweet, but a bit dense. Overall, prices are reasonable for what you get. Worth a visit if you're curious about their seasonal offerings. read more
The friendliest staff I've ever met. It's a very hipster bougie place with two locations. The owners are pretty instagram famous but what stands out is their commitment to providing a good workplace, they don't offer a tip option as they just make the price $9 and excellent matcha. My sister talked up their frozen matcha here and it delivered! I got the frozen matcha that they are known for and I added a little of the passion fruit syrup which is actual fruit. This was excellent. They also do the traditional strawberry as well. They also had the best cardamom bun I've ever had. Truly a must visit if you live here or you're visiting. The way they do the frozen matcha is amazing. Truly epic. read more

Pushing a 4star review, I'd have to come back for the rest of the drinks menu! I've had my eye on cow dog and the Dear Gus storefront well before the Instagram hype hit, from when they the occasional weekend pop up in other spaces. Beyond the cute pop-up situation (which the Vancouver crowd loves), the space is so darn aesthetic. I really have to say I came at a good time, I was looping for parking on a rainy Sunday and spotted no crowd out the door, another lap around the block and Bam I'm at the back of a five person line in the rain. Luckily the wait was only around 15 minutes. Once inside, you can see the small batch of specialty beans available for purchase, a very nice curated selection in my opinion, and a glimpse of the pastry stand of the days offerings. I see that they're using Luna coffee as their espresso base, which can totally justify the price of their drinks. Note - they offer oat milk at no cost up and are a tip free (built into the costs) type of cafe model. I'm a coffee fanatic, but wasn't feel like one that day, instead a craving for hojicha hit. I opted for a hojicha latte and it was delicious - I'm always iffy about the matcha and hojicha offerings that most shops offer because they don't meet my flavour-profile expectations I.e. most use these flavours so sparingly as a gimmick to justify a higher cost for their non-so-flavourful goodies. Cow dog's hojicha lived up to the hype. It was rich in flavour, very smooth and well blended but unfortunately my drink was served pretty lukewarm. Slightly disappointed, but again could've just been a one off thing. I'd have to come back for other drinks to justify the a solid review. The lineup easily doubled as we were leaving, we noticed the line hadn't moved at all for about a half hour and really thought we should leave the open up some seating space, turns out the espresso machine had a malfunction and the end of the line was not notified... from an operational perspective, they should've let the crowd know especially if the crowd has been waiting in the rain, people might have just left with higher hopes to come back another day. Anyways, small business pop up things, happy the group is thriving and serving up some good drinks. read more

Cute new cafe for the neighborhood. I got a strawberry matcha with oat, orange cardamom cold brew and a hojicha cookie. The strawberry matcha was very good. It was $8.50 so not the cheapest in town but not too bad. The strawberry was a jam and not a fresh berry compote, which some people may prefer. The matcha was delicious and the drink was well balanced with not too much ice. The orange cardamom cold brew was dream worthy. It had a good level of spice and gave fall vibes and had a balanced level of sweetness that wasn't overpowering. I would definitely get this again. The hojicha cookie was $6 and had a surprise white chocolate filling in the middle. The value of this cookie was good and I may get it again. The interior is cozy and cute and they have beautiful centerpieces. I can see this place getting busy during peak hours but there was no wait on a Saturday morning just before 9am. read more

Amazing new coffee shop that doesn't take tips or charge for milk alternatives!! My matcha was the MOST delicious I've ever tasted in Vancouver. HANDS DOWN. I got the strawberry matcha and it came to $9.45 after tax, little more expensive but WORTH it. The vibe in the shop was so cute and cozy, very intimate and warm. The staff was so friendly, can't wait to go back for more. They also have really cute Cowdog merch you can get. Honestly might have to get a T-shirt! Support small businesses that pay their workers a fair wage! Love you cowdog read more

This place became viral a while back for their strawberry matcha latte. There's always a long line during the weekend but since I live around the neighbourhood I managed to go on early Monday. Service was friendly and I really enjoyed the ambience. Matcha was really good as well, though I would suggest serving them with a mug versus glass ware as the drink was hot, making it rather difficult to drink. Price was pretty expensive at $9 per drink but makes sense because they don't accept tips. Also got a pistachio lemon canele for $6, which was pretty good but I think I would have preferred a classic traditional canele instead (not really a fan of spur dessert - but that's a personal preference thing) read more
Cute and quaint coffee shop! The inside of the shop is a bit small, and it was super busy when I went, so it was difficult to grab a seat. We waited outside as we were waiting for our drinks. They have a pretty solid menu, with fun seasonal drinks. Service was kind and very quick. Drinks were very solid! read more

cowdog is such a wonderful little cafe. I loved the ambiance, it was cozy and even though there wasn't much seating space due to the size of the cafe, it was well organized to accommodate as many seats as they could comfortably, and still have room for the staff to do their jobs well. All the staff were great and super friendly, not to mention impressive, seeing as there was a line at the door the whole time. They really care about their customers and their staff, with their prices being fair for the quality, no up-charges for milk swaps, fair wages for their staff, and no tips. It's the kind of small business I will always aim to support as much as I can! I got their hot Earl Grey Matcha in 16oz, and the flavours were amazing! The matcha is rich and earthy, without any bitter undertones, and it was expertly crafted into a latte with the earl grey syrup. It was bright green and so smooth. I will be back to try their espresso and their iced strawberry matcha for sure! cowdog is an absolute must visit, and a must return for me. read more
Great coffee shop with a line that moves quickly. You order then wait outside for your drink (no washroom). Make sure you check which days they're open bc different locations are open on different days! Beautiful interior with fresh flowers and we got pastel de nata with strawberry matcha and earl grey latte. read more
I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon with a few people and cowdog was busy & crowded! The interior is cute with very limited space with lines out the door. The cashier was multi tasking so it took a longer time to place our orders. We ordered an iced matcha, iced hojicha, iced strawberry matcha, iced vanilla latte, and the cowboy cookie. It came quickly. All of our drinks were lightly sweetened and I needed to add a pack of sugar to my iced matcha to make it easier to drink. The other drinks didn't need extra customization. The cowboy cookie was good but we wished it had less white chocolates and nuts in it. I'm not sure if I'd come back with so many different cafe options in the area, but it was definitely worth trying. read more

First time visitor to the cafe, came for the iced Matcha and it did not disappoint! The matcha was green, clean, delicious, and served in the cutest, branded to-go cups! The cafe was busy but they were quick to serve up my order. I am already looking forward to my next visit! read more
Quaint little cafe that serves some unique variety of coffee, espresso and matcha beverages. The place is particularly small squeezing in about 10 people inside and with a few outdoor seatings as well. The cafe was quite busy on a Sunday morning but service was very quick and we got our drinks within 10 mins. We tried the two popular signature drinks I kept hearing about - Passionfruit Matcha Tonic & Strawberry Matcha Latte. Both drinks has good flavour and not too sweet. If I were to order again it would be the Passionfruit Matcha Tonic. It was very refreshing and great to have that caffeine kick in the matcha. The Strawberry Matcha Latte was light and the strawberry puree was really enjoyable as it was smooth yet you taste the real strawberry flavour and bits unlike the artificial strawberry puree you get else where. Overall, good quality drinks but a little pricier for the size. read more

The prospect of waiting in a long line was intimidating, but when I arrived around 9 on a Monday there was no line at all! Maybe the hype has dissipated, or maybe that's just how it is on Mondays. Great atmosphere. The space is intimate and aesthetically pleasing, a cozy spot to spend a rainy morning. The baristas were very nice, bringing my order and a glass of water to my seat for me. I got the hojicha + milk and a lemon pistachio canele. The hojicha was wonderful, fragrant and creamy. It was my first time trying a canele, and I was delighted by the custardy centre hidden inside the honeycomb-like crust. I totally get the drink prices, considering the no-tipping practice and no oat milk charge, but I was surprised at the $7 price of the canele given that it's very small. I know they're supposed to be difficult to make and the moulds are expensive, but it was just so tiny! That being said, I greatly enjoyed the overall experience and I want to go back and try the matcha and the other flavour of canele and pay the $7 for the canele again, I'm just a little skeptical; I wouldn't want to pay that much for a pastry barely larger than bite-size if I didn't REALLY want it. As an aside, getting to the washroom is a bit of an adventure, but they have signs up at every turn so I was able to get there without feeling lost. read more

Some of the best matcha lattes I've had in a while. The matcha powder they used tasted almost sweet and strong. They do a 12 oz cup which is perfect. Of course it's a little pricey (I believe I paid $8?), but honestly if you want a GOOD quality matcha then I would suggest this cafe. Also got one of their pastries, almost looked like an egg tart. It was absolutely DELICIOUS. The service there was excellent. Overall experience 10/10 read more

Currently soft opening out of Gus's Snack Bar in the Olympic Village area, they are unfortunately only open during Sundays. We tried to go there last weekend but abandoned that idea as the lineup was quite long mid morning. This time around, we went quite early and didn't have to wait too long. The seating space inside is quite small so it will probably be easier to get your drinks to go. Caneles were sold out early and they cost about $7 for one. In general, food and drinks are on the more expensive side but the owners are extremely friendly and welcoming and I loved the atmosphere of this very cute cafe! read more
