Went here after a hot yoga class nearby. Cafe seems cool and I like the pink exterior and all the plants inside. Unfortunately, neither the coffee nor cleanliness impressed me. This coffee shop is located about 2 blocks from the Holiday Inn on Broadway. There's currently no street parking due to construction so if you can walk that's the best option. The inside is cozy and filled with plants. The service was good and our coffee was ready pretty quickly. My only complaint is that they don't have any flavoring for your drink except honey. I've been meaning to come here because I love the coffee at places that use their beans, but when I saw they had a rooibos chai and ended up getting that instead of anything bean. Pretty good chai latte, unsweetened (which is my preference) but very smooth. I also had the Rosemary Egg Muffin and a Friand. Egg muffin was really nice with the layer of melted cheese on top and made a light but surprisingly satisfying lunch. It was my first time seeing a friand and it sounded neat so I wanted to try, and really liked it! It's kind of like a cross between a poundcake and almond cookie - very dense, but soft and moist. They have a small assortment of other baked goods and 3 sandwiches (two meat sandwiches that I can't remember the details of and a grilled cheese). The food is priced pretty reasonably. They apparently have complimentary sparkling water but the friend I went with and I weren't offered any and I didn't see it mentioned anywhere, I only gathered this from watching other customers get it from the barista when they ordered. Very cool that they have it and I wish I'd known about it to take advantage when I ordered. The front facade of the building is really pretty. The interior is basically a run-of-the-mill Vancouver coffee shop: clean and bright, lots of plants, lots of natural light. It's on the smaller side, but laid-out well so that it doesn't feel cramped or get congested. Baristas were nice and approachable. From my perspective, it's a good place to try if you're in the area often, but it's not somewhere I'd go out of my way for. Even though it was my first time there I feel like I've basically been to this same shop dozens of times... There's a lot of café competition in Vancouver. So if the atmosphere is not warm and inviting I would just go across the street. It cost too much $$ for drinks and food options are few. Visited this coffee shop near my work and I'm happy I dropped by to get some work done. They don't have wifi but I had access to the Shaw Wi-Fi in there. Many customers are in and out around 8am when I visited during the weekday. They have signs on the table to let you know a table is clean and they limit you to stay 30 minutes. However, it wasn't busy so they didn't push for anyone to leave after 30 minutes. Lots of seating inside. I know they also have seating outside on the side and front when the weather is decent. I ordered their iced latte which was fine. Didn't think it was anything special. I'll be back to try more of their coffee options and pastries. read more

I have been meaning to try this place for a long time and have bookmarked it over a year. Finally, I got a chance to go there on my day off. I went there on Friday morning and found it's so busy!! Long line up at the cashier, no seat available and even no space to stand! I didn't understand why the people rated them so high and I really disappointed with the coffee that I got. My hubby's latte wasn't impressive and my mocha wasn't great. The baristas was not friendly at all either. Between Main and Cambie Street, there are a lot of coffee shops a way better than Elysian. I came here for a coffee and scone for breakfast this morning. It has one of the best lattes in Vancouver. Their latte is smooth, thick and fragrant and it has its personality in it. I drank the latte with their scone. Best combo especially their bakery goods were fresh and warm. I bought a German wood coffee grinder from them several years ago. They had unique coffee machines, grinders, accessories and etc. They are quite specialized in the coffee industry. Their pricing and service were average. Before 10am: quiet study area with good ambience. After 10:30am: crowded, noisy, people rudely dragging chairs from different tables. I give it 3/5 because the baristas were nice and helpful, coffee was ok (moderately priced), store decor was beautiful. There was no wifi however, which made this place unsuitable for studying. So usually I go to the Starbucks when I need coffee, anytime I have a doctors appointment. I've seen Elysian an mentally put it on my coffee bucket list lol. The Starbucks closed down, as the property seems as though a new condo building is going up. It's very pretty, clean and small. I ordered a latte, which was fine, but I'm a sweetner user, *gasp*! and they don't carry any. This is a major bummer for me, but perhaps not for yourself. AMAZING COFFEE and amazing walnut chocolate cookie but... I unfortunately have to give 4 stars for not having wifi! Studying at coffee shops is something I do on a regular basis and unfortunately I always end up at Starbucks or parallel because of the 'no wifi' issue. My favourites: -oat-milk latte (they use the brand Oatly which you can only find in the states. It's creamy and rich! SO delicious. Any place that can create coffee art in the perfect foam and then bring over a refreshing glass of club soda as soon as you sit down is an A+ in my book. The intelligensia black cat beans are so perfectly roasted and add such a warm, richness in my cappuccino. You also can't go wrong with a straight americano. The shortbread is classic, buttery, and melts in your mouth. The ham and cheese croissant is sliced then stuffed then warmed to order. The bar is my favorite. Just bought a take out coffee. 3$ for prepared medium size, they kept the coffee warm in a vacuum bottle. This is not a make after order kind of coffee that you would expect for what they are charging .Bad value if you put money into the equation. The coffee itself is mild, acidic and watery. There is no body. It has some buttery favor. The experience is very lacking. It is like when i made my own cup of coffee but using too much water. I'm a yelping coffee snob. As I entered the little quaint cafe surrounded by newly built concrete buildings, I was greeted by a friendly smile from an Elysian staff. I ordered a cappuccino and watched the barista make the espresso; it's like an art form as he trys to make perfection. I let it cool for a few minutes on the counter; letting the air permeate with the strong smell of espresso seeping through the steamed milk and foam layers. I take a small sip to minimize any burning to my delicate taste buds. I savour a second sip and I'm in java nirvana and well on my way to a life of coffee snobbery. The cappuccino had perfect consistency with no hint of bitterness or burnt taste. From humble beginnings in Tim's and Bucks, I have come a long way to the zenith of the coffee world. I started my coffee drinking back in University when it was just about the caffeine and not about the culture of coffee. What was I thinking? Then came the trip to Italy, when I sipped my first espresso without any sugar, cream or other fillers that disguise the true taste of the perfectly roasted coffee beans. It was like I got kicked in the mouth and I realize there was more to coffee then just caffeine, what an epiphany. My palate was going through a java baptism. But seriously, coffee snobbery doesn't have to be something negative. It means one have the appreciation of the finer points of coffee; the different roasts, varietals and brewing methods that impact on the final taste. It means one is educated and passionate about our beloved bean. Coffee snobbery is the pursuit of the perfect brew of java or espresso with the ideal crema. Had a latte. Foam was velvety micro good, as one should be. The house roast, smooth and medium. It was good. Not THE best I've had. The best puts you around the vicinity of Tacoma and Olympia Washington and thereabouts. ;-) The place was cute. Wood, glass, leather, metal...Clean, plain, modern and had large booths with squishy seating next to soaring glass windows. Very nice and atypical as far as coffee shops go. My faves usually border on grunge, but this place had external class. I perused their displayed coffee extracting machines/tools. Some I hadn't seen before. I want them. Upon heading for the door with my tincture, I narrowly avoided a collision due to a sudden and strange high five between the barista and a male guest who appeared to be interested in something she had to offer, other than coffee...Thought it was a quick high-five, but it morphed into a hand hold, high in the sky, with their eyes softening toward one another..! London bridge didn't fall down on me and my latte, but it sure was awkward brushing past their outstretched arms. I'll go back...tomorrow, and grab a coffee...I'm going to be brave, and go for a croissant or some other such dainty as they offer, and get a cappucino this time, and shakily hand them my "Canadian money" I feel strange about using, like I'm going to mess up and humiliate myself. My go to coffee house on Broadway. They make a decent cappuccino. I would prefer a bit stronger espresso, but it's pretty good. They also carry a variety of baked goods, all made in house. If you are there at the right time when their scones are just out of the oven, it is a must try. The chocolate chip cookies are quite possibly the best in the city. Great service and goodies. Not the kind of place where you can readily relax and get some reading or work done, but a good place if you want to do a little people watching, either inside or out. I spent many, many unrushed afternoons at Elysian sipping their clover brewed coffee during the last year I lived in Vancouver. My preference is always black filter coffee, but occasionally I had an iced americano & once a mocha, both were equally delicious. They have a selection of tempting baked goods made on site, their banana bread is deliciously moist & was always hard for me to pass up. Service was consistently friendly & they offer carbonated water on tap, which I liked a lot while drinking their coffee. I love coffee shops. Elysian is an interesting, hip cafe in the Fairview area. It reminds me a lot of Portland with all the prices in increments of 25 cents and the laidback, relaxed feeling with attention to detail taken when it comes to coffee brewing. Despite being full from lunch, I was tempted by the delicious looking double chocolate cookie in the bakery window and it did not disappoint. It was moist, sweet, and crisp on the edges. My drink of choice, a cafe mocha, was quite good and one of the better ones I've had in the city (and I've had a lot of them from everywhere). It had a nice balance of coffee and chocolate. Elysian is a cool coffee shop for a brewed beverage and I can see why it gets packed with students studying in the afternoon. I mentioned to the barrista that this is my first time in the cafe and she was willing to make suggestions based on how I take my coffee. I like my coffee with milk no sugar so we went for a latte. The latte is foamy just as it should be. It's not as strong as I'm used to. Since it was almost noontime I decided to order Turkey Croissant. The croissant is buttery and comes with a 2-yr old cheddar cheese. I must say I would come back just for the Turkey Croissant. The people who work here seems to enjoy what they're doing.
