JJ Bean coffee is pretty good. Selection is somewhat limited. Friendly staff. Been here multiple times and every time we are here, the experience has been positive. We once had an ice mocha here and another time a vanilla macchiato. There are plenty of seating inside the cafe. I used to have a friend who comes here asking for the coffee ground left over for his composter and I am not sure if they still give that away. So when I think about JJ Beans, I think of this one friend whom I don't talk to anymore. Overall pretty good drinks. Food options is basically what you see in the case. First of all, probably without a doubt one of my most favorite coffeeshops in the lower mainland as I have been coming here for years as a chef and usually it's the powerhouse team that creates that experience. Yesterday, unfortunately happened to be one of those rare occasions where I had received some mediocre service on Tuesday evening by a staff member who I knew was simply not in the mood being rather annoyed or irritated to serve customers which came off as being rude (we've all been there with the bad days, I get it). The usual strong team vibe just wasn't there for my visit (also no soap in washroom) & I hope the team notices to correct this while maintaining a good, fun loving spirit for their operations this year because it's a really nice cafe. Keep the veteran pros there who have been with JJ Bean a long time if you can because they are the best! read more

This place is big and has plenty of big windows that let lots of lights in. Music is tolerable, not too loud that one can gave a decent conversation. A lot of people with their laptops. Plenty of outlets for electronics. They even have a nice patio outside to hangout in. I like coming here people watching on a nice day like this. They have nice selections of pastries, sandwiches and drinks. Price is decent. Coffee is fresh, medium body. Service is fast and friendly. There's street parking around. Along Main St. there are lots of restaurants to choose from. I recommend visiting! read more

14th and Main Street location of JJ Bean offers plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, JJ Bean baking and a homey interior. Our first time at this location, we were able to find street parking a few steps away. There are a lot of dining and coffee places close by, this area is popular with locals and tourists alike. We shared our standard Americano plus a savoury cheese and chive scone and very berry muffin. Nice touch, they have wooden cutlery and butter on the condiment area. They also have stevia and a good supply of napkins. Staff was friendly, order came up quickly and the coffee was very good. Establishment was clean and tables were cleared. Overall 4.5 out of 5 IMO. read more

I made my order for pickup in the evening and scored with having no line when I walked in. The staff member behind the counter was really friendly and had my order ready to go which was great because I was in and out in 2min. I picked up an Apple fritter cruffin, a chocolate zucchini muffin, a cranberry orange muffin, a cheddar and chive scone, and a rhubarb pastry. Normally with chains I have low expectations for pastries but these were all really good! The muffins were super moist and the scone had a great flavour but the two winners were definitely the cruffin and the danish! There's ample seating here but whenever I pass by it seems to be a popular spot for people on their laptops so it might be hard getting a table since the turnover is quite slow. I plan on coming back to see how it is sitting in the cafe as well! read more

I bought a package roasted chicken sandwich for $11. Photos below and what a surprise that it had nothing in it except hard discolored chicken with no lettuce or tomato and Soggy bread. The staff ridicules the clients, they make fun of the patrons and it is not an enjoyable experience. They think they are witty and clever, but it is rude behaviour and shows how they need to belittle and pick on others in order to feel good about themselves. I try not to step foot in there every time I do, I notice the same thing, they are making underhanded jokes to the patrons and about them. The worst was when they were making fun of a disabled person. That's when I decided to write this up. It's all fun and games until people are laughing at the vulnerable and handicapped. read more

This review will be short, but perhaps not sweet. I've been here before and wasn't a fan, and years later I'm still not a fan. I ordered a vegan parfait and honestly it could have been so much better than it was. I particularly didn't like the granola. It was literally all pumpkin seeds. The parfait also wasn't sweet enough. It was one of the most unpleasant desserts I've had in awhile. Just because it's vegan doesn't mean it shouldn't be appetizing. I could have a designed a better one, honestly. The ambiance is ok, nothing great. I doubt I'll give this place a third chance. read more

Came here for some coffee. Parking is available on the side streets. This location is quite different in that there is a really nice large patio that extends onto the street. Definitely makes the outdoor experience way more enjoyable. Special mention. Not sure if this is only during the summer months though. As for the coffee, it's pretty decent. read more

The mochas and their Krispy Oatmeal Raisin Cookie are a must try!! (or just try ANY cookie - I swear they never disappoint!) I've tried my fair share of mochas across Vancouver, and nothing beats the mochas made here! I love the strong chocolatey taste, and it honeslty feels like a warm and awakening cup of hug. This JJ Bean is in a very lovely and friendly neighbourhood. As a bonus, only at this location, there are always a few pigeons who somehow sneak in the store, and it's so entertaining watching the pigeons pick up the crumbs off the floor and eventually find their way out of the store! read more

This venue at Main and 15th is no exception, conforming to the middle class residents and creating a large and luxurious living-room type space that makes you want to go to college and raise 1.5 children. There are cushioned stools, chairs with armrests, and even some foot rests for the weary coffee drinker, all centered around the piece de resistance, a large roaring fireplace that can be seen and enjoyed from both sides. Everything else is standard corporate protocol, from the harmless art to the run of the mill prices and flavors. Also I like a bit of chocolate. There's another 50 cent ding. You're 50centing me outa here man! WAIT. How come you have soy for free on the condiments table but charge extra for it in a drink? But, the bigger question is how come you charge me 50 cents to have it in an 8 oz cup but the same 50 cents to have it in a 20 oz cup?? Maybe I should ask for the 20oz amount of Soy in an 8oz cup. This is my absolute favourite coffee place - especially the Main St. location. I love the fireplace! Unlike the other JJ Bean locations, the coffee at the Main St. shop is always consistent: never too strong, always hot. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is for one specific reason: lack of cleanliness. I understand it is a high volume location, but the floors are always sooooooo dirty and covered in crumps and filth. I wish I could take a bucket of clean hot water with Mr. Clean and go to town on it! Please, take the extra time and effort and keep your cafe clean. Just got back from JJ Bean Main St. The best coffee shop hands down in Vancouver. The staff are happy they have agency and I love the music they play. I will always go here over any other coffee shop. Fantastic baked goods. They always exceed my expectations. Not to boast for JJ Bean but I've had a lot of coffee for the last 20 years in Vancouver and this has to be hands down the best location for quality of coffee, food and service all around. Need I say more? 5 stars for JJ bean and their team of coffee Baristas. If you're not used to Vancouver East Side this is the nice area of Vancouver and there's lots of cool things to do around there like shopping, dining and just checking out the local scene which is becoming more popular. And one more thing, if you get in there early and I mean early before 11 a.m. you may have a chance at trying one of their cheese and jalapeno muffins. If you like baking you've gotta check this out. This place is decent. Because its now become more popular, at times you will not be able to get a seat. There are a bunch of small two-person tables but pretty much all of them are taken up by one person, with their bag on the other chair, laptop on the table and then sits for 3+ hrs. I was lucky enough to find someone to share a table as all I needed was a seat to read/study. It would be good if they had another long bar so that all the lone ppl can sit. That way the two-seater tables are free for couples. They do have a small curved bar but that only fits 6 ppl. The americano was good, not as bitter as Starbucks. I had a pumpkin coffee cake which was good too. Very moist but due to the pumpkin icing, a little sweet. It was my fault for ordering it but I just wanted to try it, rather than getting the normal banana bread or muffins. The WiFi is a hit and miss. I sat just outside by the window and my phone and tablet barely had a signal. Last time I came with a friend, her iPad barely had a signal inside by the fireplace. Maybe its due to having so many ppl on their WiFi. If they added a WiFi extender by the window, it would probably help a lot. All in all, a decent place to grab a bite, drink and relax. read more

The coffee at this location is great. HOWEVER, I come here semi regularly to work, as they're open late, but recently have stop coming because the staff have free reign over the stereo. They will normally play whatever the staff would like to hear, with no consideration for the ambiance people come for that JJ Bean is trying to maintain, or that their shop is full of students desperately trying to get work done late at night. I decided to give JJ Bean one more try last night, but am sorry to say last nights visit will be my last. The staff were playing Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani throwback playlists very loudly over the stereo and singing along to it, on top of the employees yelling over top of each other and being overall super obnoxious with seemingly no care that they were at work, or representing the JJ Bean brand. This was the final straw for me and unfortunately I will not be coming back for this reason. read more

Dirty walls and furniture... which very odd - why just why wouldn't you clean where you work?! The staff, from this experience, were typical to a lot of main street coffee shops: indifferent. One of the very first coffee shops I frequented when I moved to this fine city, this particular JJ will always hold a special place in my twee 'eart. But, you know, it's a typical JJ -- the coffee is all the same, and the clientele are all pretty much the same (with slight variations in age, income levels, and duration of a typical visit). There are a couple of big differences about this guy: 1. It just so happens to be THE busiest JJ in all of Vancouver. Good luck getting a seat. 2. BUT there's a little something special that more than likely accounts for this: the no wifi zone that JJ Bean is so (in)famous for has been overturned! Well, sort of. There happens to be a Starbucks across the street with a mighty strong signal. SO, if you happen to be so lucky to snag a seat, this is one of the best work spaces on Main. read more

Today was my very first experience with Mr JJ Bean..and I have to tell ya it was pretty darn tasty. I enjoyed the low fat Turkey and Cranberry Sandwich, tres festive, and my good friend Cathy had a White Chocolate Chip Cookie...also tres delicious. The coffee too was pretty good. I had a Americano was really good...light...fluffy you might say..as fluffy as an Ameriacno can be??....and Cathy had a Latte which was apparently very filling..not sure why but it wasn't a negative thing. JJ Bean is a great little coffee shop perfect for a Sunday stop in with a friend while shopping Main..I thinks it may become a Sunday morning ritual... read more

Good espresso...not a fan of their drip. Massive house made muffins make up for any shortcomings though, as does the Yaletown location's patio during summer. At Davie & Homer, it's 100% the best people watching spot. At this Main Street location, don't expect a seat right away...there's practically a lineup out the door every morning. read more

I love JJ Bean. The lattes are smooth and they used to make my favourite London Fogs in the city (just this past Christmas I got a London Fog and it tasted completely different, I think they changed their Earl Grey?). When I left Vancouver to go to school, there were only 4 locations in Vancouver... Granville Island, North Van, Commercial, and Main Street. You could almost find me everyday at JJ on Main, once in the morning before work, and then in the afternoon after work. Sure they don't have wifi, but I didn't care, I was there for the coffee, and if I really wanted to work on a paper or something, I would rather not be bothered and distracted by the internet. Anyway, don't the majority of people have 3g/4g on their phones now? This is probably my favourite location because of the fireplace, it's always pretty awesome to sit there on a rainy or cold day. I've always found the staff to be friendly and patient. It was to the point that they had memorized my name and had my drink ready for me before I reached the till. Good times! Even if I don't live in Vancouver anymore, I frequently go back in the summer and Christmas, and I stock up on bags of beans and coffee to bring back with me and sustain me while I am away. I always prefer JJ over Blenz, Waves or Starbucks for coffee. If I want tea, I might hop over to Blenz. read more

One JJ Bean is different from the other JJ Bean. I've even heard no two Starbucks in Vancouver are alike. It is this difference that makes this Main street JJ Bean less attractive. A Chalet feel within and even a bigger space wasn't enough for the vast amount of customers. I even noticed a customer sit at the Fireplace but she had a slight bend in her back so not to hit her head from the structure. I wasn't ready to sit uncomfortably just to get my Beverage in a Mug. I felt slightly Environmentally Wasteful at that very moment... The ONLY option I saw at that moment was get my Cappuccino to-go. While my Beverage is still enjoyable, this place felt more rushed and distracting than other Cafes. Slightly disappointing. : ( read more

This weekend I decided I would try somewhere new for a coffee. Every morning I hit up a Starbucks before I go to the sky train and to be honest, I'm sick of it. As someone who likes change and gets sick of the daily grind, I need new scenery and new experience to keep myself going. So, instead of going to Starbucks this Saturday to read my book, i took a walk up main street and landed on JJ Bean. I was very impressed with JJ Bean. I had the Railway blend. I think. Don't quote me on that. Something like that anyway. It was very good coffee. I always add soy milk to my coffee and I often find that if i have a bad coffee soy milk only makes it worse. But, luckily this coffee was really good even paired with soy milk. I was disappointed that I had just eaten lunch and I was not hungry! I badly wanted to try the peach and oatmeal muffin, it looked full of calories and divine. Also, I have never seen a cinnamon bun that appetizing. I'm drooling now thinking about it. I think that will be my stop tomorrow morning. One downside to JJ Bean was that they disturb people every 2 minutes to call out the food order and person's name. I'm not big on this. I was there to read. I don't expect quiet but this is weird. Just give them a number and move on. read more
