I have often walked past Dose and made a promise to go in and buy a coffee in the mornings. As of writing this review, the establishment has COVID reduced hours (8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays, didn't pay attention to the weekend hours.) Dose is a very cute little boutique looking coffee shop, one where you can easily imagine the owners/employees making all the drinks and baked goods themselves. Thanks to the pandemic, the coffee shop has simplified into an order counter where you can order and go. It is located steps away from a busy bus stop; I would imagine it still gets a lot of foot traffic. I didn't get any pictures as I ordered my coffee to-go, and I feel ill equipped to give a foodie-type critique on a small drip coffee. From what I saw in my short visit, there was a decent small selection of unique baked goods (cheese and spinach waffles anyone?) and an impressively long list of drinks. The coffee hot and delicious and is a good contender against some of the chain establishments just up the street. What made me smile this morning, was the gentlemen working behind the counter. He was upbeat and (probably) smiling underneath his mask and I didn't feel like I was judged by just ordering a small drip coffee. Honestly, his positivity was definitely infectious and it makes me want to visit this place again. The best little coffee shop in town by far. Great service that's always with a smile & super friendly. Some nice selection of baked goodies. But I go there for the super smooth flat white coffee. Always consistently good. It's a completely different experience from the high brow, all knowledgeable, snobbishness of the usual 'artisanal' coffee shops that has popped up everywhere & usually staffed by cold impersonal coffee snobs. Here you get good coffee, great atmosphere, awesome service and nobody judging you if you want a basic cappuccino after lunch (heaven forbid!) with some sugar in it. In a city full of cookie-cutter coffee shops with no soul and service, this joint really stands out. They have a really small space but definitely good customer service and friendly staff keeps me coming back. The decor is very minimalistic with clean furniture and a rather west coast rustic feel. How did I not notice that they're serving up the locally roasted (and my favourite bean) Origins from Granville Island? For shame on me. Heed the take-away advice of other yelpers. There's really only one table and a couple of stools. You're much better off grabbing it to go and if you're on a social/meeting like calling (and it's sunny) hit up the benches in the Vancouver School Board's courtyard on Fir and 10th. Grabbed a 1% latte and butter croissant to go (how I generally evaluate a new coffee shop). The latte was fantastic - well-rounded espresso with perfectly steamed milk. I actually asked for extra-hot and the milk was in no way scalded. Butter croissant is a little dense, though. Tastes like the butter slightly melted during the dough folding process. They advertise their baked goods to be home made and they do appear hearty and honest. You can tell the owners care about their work as everything was delicately presented. An oasis in a desert of terrible chain coffee dumps. It's not my favourite spot in the city, but I live in the area, and, in a coffee emergency, I'll take this place over Starbucks or Blenz any day. Smooth espresso with a nutty finish, perfectly stretched milk, very friendly and talented staff. Coffee is always consistent, which is where the staff's talent comes in. This place would be overrated if it were rated crappy. The coffee is absolutely terrible. I paid the usual $2-$3 for a double, 8oz Americano and received a cup of dilute piss that I would feel guilty serving at Denny's. Instead of sucking back the swill at this dump, I recommend either heading south to Bean Around the World at 14th and Granville, or hitting up the JJ Bean on Granville Island. I've been going here on daily basis for some time. The whole experience is second to none. I suspect Kyle J is running a competing coffee shop based on his negative review. As an espresso fanatic I can attest to Tony's extremely consistent technique resulting in a wonderful espresso each and every time. He uses Hines' Origins beans which may not be my favorite beans but that is just personal taste. Dose is among my top 3 espresso cafe's in town. It's hands down number 1 in terms of consistent results in the cup. Elysian and 49th will occasionally make a more flavorful, nuanced espresso but depending on who's manning the bar that day it's just a crap shoot. Dose gets it right every time. I don't drink latte's much anymore but if you're into that Tony has some crazy skills. Rosetta's? Apples? Hearts? Forget that. On Chinese new year Tony was pouring DRAGONS! read more

My friend and I were shopping in the area, and she suggested we grab a coffee at her regular coffee shop. When we got to the door, a sign read closed, but there were people inside. The owner happily opened the door and made us drinks. We ordered the burnt caramel latte. The temperature was perfect, eye pleasing latte art, aromatic caramel that was nicely burnt and not too sweet. The espresso wasn't over roasted and had a full bodied flavour. Perfect coffee, served expertly, quickly, courteously every single time. The couple that runs this place clearly loves what they do, and they care about the people they're making things for. They make their own food as well. Limited selection, but beautiful. The apple turnover has perfectly light and flaky pastry, buttery, crispy, an absolute pleasure to bite. All their puff pastry is on the money. Unlike most places that serve proper coffee (like Elysian, 49th Parallel, Prado and the like, notably excepting Bows & Arrows, Revolver, and Timbertrain who are very good as well but not quite as good as Dose), these guys are fast, completely free of negative attitude, and very good at what they do. read more

I opted for a nutella mocha. The coffee they use was good and they crafted my drink with care, which was much appreciated. But I think I am personally not a fan of the nutella mocha because it didn't taste very mocha-y, but rather it tasted like a regular mocha, so maybe not worth the extra $$. But nonetheless, I would try this place again for one of their other drinks. read more

For their opening week, they have a little bingo-like game you can play to get free drinks/snacks or money off your purchase. They still have a little ways to go before they're fully operational -- they don't have a debit/credit machine yet, and they only had half and half out on their milk bar. I had to ask for a different kind of milk to put in my coffee. They had an issue of Lapham's Quarterly sitting on their coffee table -- I'll have to come back sometime for a leisurely coffee break by the window and read it. read more

Open until 4:30 pm and then only 9 - 1 pm on Saturday....makes it odd to actually get out here which is a shame unless you want to wake up at 7:00 am on a weekday. Considering that it is always a busy intersection this is business suicide with their hours of operation. For starters the place is very small. There is a area to sit down, however, not to work as you would be leaning with a sore back. There is a small selection of pastries. This is more of a grab and go situation. I had the Nutella mocha which is basically mocha with a bit of hazelnut syrup. I didn't taste Nutella really, however, the flavor combination was decent. A small 8 oz ended up being around $5.15 cents which is the most I've spent for a mocha. Customer service was good. The only downfall is that it's so small that I've missed it so many times while waiting for the B-line throughout the year. Perhaps a sandwich board to direct customers would been helpful to increase future traffic. So why the 4 and not 5.....the price margin needs to be a bit better, especially since they were using syrups and not actual Nutella which I understand is $$$. read more

I had high hopes for this place based on the reviews, but I found the Nutella Mocha to be underwhelming. It tasted like syrup and costs 5.75 for a large. The place is very small and the seating is such that it is comfortable for only one group of people. Just as I sat down a group of 7-8 people came in for coffee, and I decided to pack up and leave since I was sitting on the only bench with the group all around me. My idea of a good coffee shop is based on strong coffee and comfortable seating where one can relax and recharge. Unfortunately, this place is more like a takeout joint and not my type at all. The servers are friendly and the location is good, as it is right next to the B-Line spot so if you like the taste of their coffee you could savour it on the go. One day last week I specifically decided to avoid the coffee chains in the one block radius of this small shop and I was very disappointed. The espresso shot was acrid and burnt. I could smell that before I drank it. The Nutella coffee on their sign outside had got my attention quite a few times even though it sounded like it belonged in a Japanese cafe selling only pink food. I don't know if I will return to try another type of coffee. I will allow that the little pyrex pitcher in which the espresso was served was appealing. I had a latte and almond chocolate croissant. Unfortunately, the latte tasted like warm milk, and really lacked espresso. Even worse still was that the croissant had almonds ON it, instead of IN it. For 3.75$ with tax, it is hands down the greatest latte in town! On top of the the staff is always friendly and will always make pretty latte art for you. Their baked goods are also amazing. I had a lemon blueberry scone that had fresh grated lemon rind on top and was not flaky at all and still light and moist in the center. Definitely check it out if you haven't yet. read more
