Oat milk latte
Beverly A.

Small cafe but meets your coffee and pastry needs! Friendly staff. Good variety of coffee options (cold and hot), as well as pastries, sandwiches, and even soup! Lots of people came and went through this cafe while my friend and I sat inside. Lots of free parking as well. Can't go wrong here!

On vacation in Vancouver and looked up a few local cafes near where we were staying in Surrey. I thought the reviews looked good, and so glad we stopped. What a cute spot to grab a morning coffee. Small on the inside by there was some seating for those that want to stay. Don't let the size of the place fool you. They have a large menu and both pastries or sweet treats along with breakfast sandwiches. I ordered the Bombon latte and an apple danish. Both were super tasty. The danish was nice an flakey and the apple center was full of flavor. My boyfriend grabbed a vanilla iced latte and a carrot cake. Whoa that carrot cake was moist and just the right level of sweetness. The person greeted us was also greeting someone else by name which is very cool. It's craft coffee so expect to wait a couple minutes as they make the master piece but I would definitely recommend and go back!

Hot chocolate with whip cream. Perfect for a rainy day!

It's one cloudy saturday and was looking for a nice place to read while having coffee. I read good reviews about this place so I decided to try it purposely. It's located in a plaza, a little hidden, on the side facing Save On Food International. It's a small place but they have outside tables. It's clean. They have a policy of not letting anyone bring outside food even on their outside tables. The staff greeted me right away with a smile. They are friendly. I tried their hot chocolate with whip cream and white chocolate cranberry scone heated. I'm never a fan of those wide-rimmed coffee mugs. They look great presentation wise but cools down hot beverage fast cuz of it's wide rim. They have breakfast sandwiches which are not that expensive but the size might be small. How fresh they are I'm not sure as they are wrapped. Overall it's a good experience. What's missing perhaps could be some cozy seats in a corner. Nice atmosphere, friendly people.

Vanilla Caramel Latte, and Carrot Cake

Impressive & delicious latte, and a memorable carrot cake. I had heard their baked goods were very good - and I agree!

During the recent heat wave (before we buckled and got an air conditioning unit), I decided to beat the heat by trying this coffee location. I was there in the mid afternoon, and suspected I had arrived after the lunch rush. The place is almost tucked into a corner of the local strip mall, so there was plenty of parking. A giant counter with display cases for food items took over one corner, resulting in a bit of an L-shape for the remaining tables and chairs. I knew I would be staying longer than usual, so I ordered a hot coffee, cheese scone and a large table probably meant for six people (in my defense, all the two person tables were taken). Thankfully I was not given the stink eye very many times, there was a small trickle of people ordering and leaving, and some (like myself) were there to find temporary refuge from the heat. Not a bad place to relax mid-week or if you find yourself spent after doing a lot of grocery shopping!

Carrot cake

Cute n' cozy cafe, with delicious carrot cake! Am super picky about my pastries and also have a nut allergy...such a sweet surprise they had something that catered to my tastebuds: )

My spanish latte/bombon latte destination

I come here at least 3-4 times a month even then i missed writing the review of this little cafe in the corner of this plaza on 152nd street and 90th ave. So when next time you are shopping at save on food, stop by here to get caffeinated All coffees are freshly prepared with hand pressed coffee espresso machine. My special and favourite is bombon which is more or less spanish latte. Lighter n sweeter then cappuccino which is my all time go to coffee( those days when u desperately need a cup n in my case thats everyday. ) They survived covid with less hours and just take out/ to go coffee. I tried vegetarian panini which is just so good. Little seating to sit with some outdoor chairs these days.

Cuatro Coffee This has been a wonderful café for the past 10+ years. Right by Fraser highway and 152nd street. Everything is made in house, it's a very relaxed atmosphere, and the staff is always very kind. English Toffee Latte - 8/10 - well made and not very sweet. A very delicious latte that was very coffee forward with a hint of Toffee flavour. Lemon & Blueberry Muffin Top - 7/10 - very tasty and a unique twist on a muffin. Reminded me of the Seinfeld episode about muffin tops. I tend to shy away from blueberry muffins as I find they're often quite flavourless and cake-like. Vanilla and Cranberry Scone - 7/10 - very tasty. Maybe over worked slightly, as Scones can be very delicate if made a certain way, with very little gluten formation. Cappuccino - 9/10 - a classic and for a reason. The coffee was great. My only criticism is that I found the frothed milk a bit too large in terms of the size of bubbles. Overall though, fantastic. Taste: 7.8/10 Apperance: 9/10 Decor and Atmosphere: 7.5/10 Overall: 8/10 A great spot to go on a free afternoon. And I don't know about any currently, but they used to have live music, which is a big plus!

Dropped by this coffee shop when I was in Surrey and got some work done. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and it wasn't super busy. Small groups were seated inside. They also have a few tables outside. They do not allow any outside food or drinks. I mistakenly ordered a non-caffeinated drink but I enjoyed it. It was a dark mocha iced. It gets pretty cold inside so bring a sweater if you plan to stay a while. This place is clean and they had an outlet I was able to use too. Lots of parking around as it's located in a shopping complex. They had pastries and sandwiches as well which I think I'll try next time!

Flat white but not really.
Carolyn L.

There is construction going on in this strip mall, making it quite hard to find this place. Look for Save-On-Foods, and you will see it. Decor is hipster cafe. It is quite comfortable and quiet. I see more regular people here of all ages rather than hipsters. The owners/staff seemed friendly and know their regulars. The coffee is good, though they still do not make a good flat white. Maybe all baristas need to know what a good and proper flat white tastes like. I am tired of trying my luck with Vancouver coffee joints on getting a decent flat white. If I see them make it, I can tell in an instant when it is wrong the minute I see them pour the milk into the cup. I do not know if they baked their own cookies and scones etc, but the English toffee cookie I had was really good. Not overly sweet and had a nice crunch to it.

Drinks!

Cute cafe alert! Located in a little strip mall by Guildford Mall in Surrey. Warning, they have construction going on in the mall but you can still access the cafe. Stopped by as I needed to kill some time before seeing a movie and Cuatro came up on Yelp. The cafe is a lot smaller than I thought. It has enough seats for approx 20-25 people. They have free wifi and comfy seats, which makes it perfect for chilling and studying. I can see this place getting busy quickly when the weather is bad. My drink (London fog) and customer service was good. I wouldn't go out of my way to come again but I would pop by if I'm ever in the area.

The cultural lineage of this place is certainly interesting, since from what I understand, this is…read morethe only Canadian location of an Indian restaurant from Japan. The restaurant is beautiful with both Indian and Japanese design sensibilities. They have a table service restaurant with both high tea and an extensive a la carte menu, and it looks like you can also buy mithai in bulk. The food isn't really Japanese-Indian fusion as you might expect, but more like Japanese impression of Indian food, if that makes sense? There's a few hints of Japanese and Asian influence, but the menu is mostly modern Indian. All vegetarian. There's no vegan or gluten free options for afternoon tea, but the a la carte menu includes many clearly labeled vegan and GF dishes. I wanted to try the afternoon tea set to get a wide sampling of their offerings. The set included: corn spinach puff, paneer tikka slider, cream cheese cucumber sandwich, samosa, chutneys for dipping, manchurian skewers, orange cranberry scone with whipped cream, rose rasmalai cake, dodha crunch, motichoor cheesecake parfait, and the choice between masala chai, coffee, or hot/iced caffe latte. It's $32/person for the set, which is a great price. I also appreciated that it was possible to order the set for just one person since it seems like many teahouses will only do it for 2+ people. I thought all of the items in the set were pretty good, and there was a balance between the sweet and savoury items. The only things that really left anything to be desired were that the scone was a bit dry and crumbly, and I thought the tandoori paneer could have been more flavourful. In general the flavours of the savoury items were a bit more subtle than in typical authentic Indian food, but for the most part it didn't come across as bland to me, just a different take on it. The standouts in the set were: the paneer slider - even if the paneer itself didn't impress, I loved the almost flaky texture of the pav - the manchurian, and the rose rasmalai cake. Also, the cream cheese cucumber sandwich had cilantro or chutney or something in the cream cheese which made it much more interesting than the plain version of this sandwich. The masala chai (my chosen drink) was also very good. It was served in a pot that contained 2 small servings. My waiter was very friendly and stopped by a few times to check in. When I was done eating and wanted my bill, it was easy to get his attention. I visited at what seemed like a quiet time so I didn't have much competition for attention. One thing that I thought was odd was when he gave me the machine to pay, there was no tip option - it would be cool if they had a no-tip policy, but I never saw any mention of it, so I wonder if he accidentally bypassed the tip when putting in my charge. It was an interesting and very pleasant experience. I was so curious about this place that I made a trip out from Vancouver just to try it (and couldn't get anyone willing to go to Surrey for afternoon tea with me, hence the afternoon tea order for one), and it was worth the trip!

If you're someone who loves afternoon tea but doesn't love spending $70 + per person for afternoon…read moretea then Tokyo Mithaiwala has an afternoon tea set that might interest you. For only $32 per person you can experience a Christmas Afternoon Tea set that won't break the bank and will leave you with more money in your pocket to go do some Christmas shopping after you've had your tea! I really enjoyed the Red Pepper Hummus & Vegetable Sandwich, and the Vegetable Skewer turned out to be surprisingly delicious! There are sweets too of course, and for your drink you can choose from standard beverages such as Chai Latte and Earl Grey tea, or opt for something a bit more exotic like the Rose Elaichi Latte which is an interesting mix of rose and cardamom flavors. The food that is served here is heavily influenced by Indian cuisine. I came here last year for the regular afternoon tea and while I enjoyed it overall back then, there was at least one item back then that didn't agree with me as it had cilantro in it and I happen to have a huge aversion to cilantro. This time, nothing had cilantro in it. The vegetable skewer was garnished with cilantro but for my particular skewer, it was very easy for the kitchen to simply leave out the garnish. In all honesty, the food here isn't exactly 5 star quality. If you're someone with very refined taste buds, this place may not be for you. The matcha scone for example didn't quite have the right texture for us, and was served with a sweet whipping cream as opposed to the clotted cream that is served in more traditional style afternoon teas. I think everyone at our table would have preferred clotted cream. However, I think that this place is an excellent option for anyone who is on a budget and perhaps, less picky with their food. It is beautifully presented and in this day and age, when so many other places are charging an arm and a leg for afternoon tea, (especially the holiday themed ones) $32 is an incredible deal. There is also a regular menu to order from if you're in the mood for something other than afternoon tea. NB: The entire menu is Vegetarian. Nemesis Coffee - Christmas tree croissant

Nemesis Coffee

My friend has always raved about Nemesis coffee and brought me back a box of their beautifully…read morepackaged Allan & Senel Campos La Toboba Jocotes beans for me to try. I was HOOKED. During my last trip to Surrey, I made sure to stop by and fill up on caffeine and pastries. This location looks like an Apple Store from the outside with a modern glass exterior and minimalistic interior. From what my friends have told me, this location is much larger than their Downtown Vancouver location. Upon entering, the first thing I saw was Nemesis' vibrant colored boxes nicely lined up on a table next to the window for purchase in addition to merch (shirts, mugs, etc.) featuring their simplistic upside down blue heart logo. They switch out the coffee varieties on a regular basis, and so make sure to check their site first if you are looking for a certain bean! After perusing the merch, I made my way to the line and was captivated by the fancy high-end pastries in the glass counter. The company that makes the pastries is called Dope and they had everything from cookies to croissants to cakes and crullers. Prices were reasonable and I paid under $20 USD for four pastries. They had unique flavors including: strawberry & pistachio danish, tiramisu croissant, churro cruller, iced cap cruller, apple hojicha fritter, ube donut, and more. Like the Nemesis packaging, the Dope pastry boxes were art pieces on their own and probably the prettiest to-go boxes I've ever seen; they are a bright vibrant blue with their signature smile and tongue character logo and metallic writing. They literally look like designer shoe boxes. Nemesis features two seasonal drinks at a time, but they don't offer any flavored drinks otherwise and so if you're looking for a basic vanilla latte, this is not the place. The two seasonal drinks they were featuring in February were the Beet Root Latte and the Black Sesame Corn Latte (no coffee in this one though). Personally, neither quite appealed to me and so I just ordered a basic OAT MILK LATTE sweetened with simple syrup (you could alternatively get it sweetened with honey). The espresso was smooth and the oat milk was nice and creamy. To share with my family, I also ordered the... - APPLE HOJICHA FRITTER ($4.75 CAN) - as someone who doesn't normally like donuts, this fritter was the best fritter I've ever had and definitely on the not-to-sweet side. It was crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and full of apple pieces, apple spiced compote, and cinnamon. The hojicha dusting was subtle but added a nice slight earthiness to the pastry. I liked this pastry so much, I ended up ordering another one later on! - The ICED CAP CRULLER ($4.75 CAN) - this cruller was also fantastic and full of espresso flavor. The espresso cream filling and the condensed milk glaze were delicious and tasted like I was eating a Vietnamese coffee. 10/10 would get this again! - BROWN BUTTER BANANA CAKE ($5.75 CAN) - this cake was super moist and had a beautiful piping of cinnamon espresso buttercream on top. I'd say this one was the least unique of the pastries I ordered, but was a solid slice of banana bread and the buttercream was smooth and light. - CHOCOLATE ORANGE SUISSE ($7.50 CAN) - this pastry was the most interesting texture-wise as it has a crispy exterior that reminded me of chowmein noodles, wrapped around a croissant. The candied orange was very distinct and could be tasted in both the chocolate orange filling and the outside. While the most expensive of the pastries (probably because of the extra labor it takes for this one), I thoroughly enjoyed every bite and would order this one again too. The seating areas and bathrooms are clean. Service is excellent- we got our orders within 10 minutes after ordering and they come by to give you water and silverware as needed. TLDR, Nemesis is 1000% worth the stop and I can't wait to be back whenever I am in Surrey next. Overall, 5/5 for coffee and pastries, 5/5 for service, 5/5 for atmosphere

There were quite a few empty tables and the place felt pretty relaxed. I was doing a bit of work and ended up staying a little longer than the 90-minute table limit. One of the staff members came up to us and said, "Hey, you guys have been here longer than 90 minutes. You'll have to leave soon." I told him that was fine and asked if I could just finish my coffee. He said okay, but then about a minute later he came back with a to-go cup and said, "Here you go, you guys can leave now." Honestly, that caught me off guard. Especially since it wasn't busy and there were still plenty of open tables. During my first visit, Jimmy went above and beyond to make sure everything was great, and I don't think he would have handled it that way. The coffee is still great and I really like the space, but this experience definitely made me think twice about coming back.
