A nice quiet coffee shop out near West Point Grey. Parking is pretty easy to find around here, on the street. The inside is cozy, with a couple of couches and a cute-looking fireplace as well. They also sell sandwiches and other pastries here, though I didn't try today. However, I did have their vanilla latte, and it was actually quite decent as it wasn't too sweet. It tasted like they used sweetener (instead of real sugar) though. It would've been nice if they'd let you choose. They have some sockets here too. There are lots of tables, single seats, double seats, community style long table and a more comfy wall couch. A seat for your every need! Lots of plug-in! Location is close to UBC so you'll get a lot of students and it makes sense cause its a really great place to study/work! Occasionally there would be light acoustic pop playing but the owner sensing that most of the customers were here to study, turned off the music! Super thoughtful of him! They use 49 Parallel coffee. It was very reasonability priced and there were some really good deals combos for coffee and food. If you love Matcha, you gotta try their matcha latte! It's AMAZING! Favourite cafe in the neighbourhood. Caffe W is currently on its third owner. The first owner was excellent, but had to sell it to move away. The second owner really ruined things (bad coffee, atmosphere, etc). However, the current owner has had it for the last 1.5 years and has managed to bring it back close to what it once was. Food tastes great, WiFi is fast. Servers gave everyone studying a free sample of the cheesecake, which was really nice. Tea comes out in a cute pot, and tastes great. Sandwiches are far tastier and cheaper than Starbucks' equivalents. The space is too small to study in groups, and really tight in general. Lots of people passing by and not ordering because the cafe is so full. Updated: I keep coming back to this place just for the London Fog cheesecake and the sandwiches. This place has everything I would want, coffee, sandwiches, wifi, CHEESE CAKE AND BELLA GELATERIO GELATO!!!!! What more can one ask in a caffe! The place is small but very well renovated and cozy! It show that a lot of thought has been put into the store with interior and equipment that are always updating, and ever expanding selection of foods and drinks. The espresso selection is very wide, and are the ones you get to enjoy at 49th parallel. There are also cold brew coffee available for hot days. The cheesecake is a real surprise, as it come in a mason jar and is simply garnished with whipped cream. Don't be fooled by the look, it is one of the best Asian style cheese cake, very light and airy without too much sweetness, the London fog comes with very good Earl Grey tea aroma. I enjoyed both the regular latte and the decaffeinated latte here, I typically do not enjoy the way decaffeinated coffee is made in many places, but with one shot it was not too bitter and full of the sweetness of steam milk. The gelato is a must try, I've been a fan of Bella Gelateria before so I'm very happy that I can get the gelato outside of downtown. Came here with my bf and friend. This cafe was a far commute for us since we all lived in the East side of Vancouver but since it got such high reviews on Yelp, it was on my list to try. Place was busy when we got there but the cashier was so friendly that she kindly asked a group of people at this big table to share part of the table with us. We didn't mind. My bf ordered an americano with their espresso beans called Blue Sky which had hints of caramel and some other flavor notes. I can't believe I didn't try his drink! Our friend had an almond milk latte. I ordered a regular drip coffee with a yogurt cherry danish which I shared with my bf. The danish was so delicious! The pastry was so flaky and fresh. The yogurt part was nice and creamy while the cherry filling was slightly sweet and tangy. Such a wonderful combination! I did, however, wished it was combined together or mixed thoroughly because the yogurt and cherry was divided in half inside, so you would need to take a huge bite to consume equal parts of the yogurt and cherry which to me, is very inconvenient and unpleasant when you are trying to enjoy a pastry. Let me tell you about Coffee Break. Coffee Break is the promise that I make to myself on Monday mornings. The thought of a hot, panini-pressed breakfast sandwich with fluffy scrambled eggs, real cheddar cheese, and thick cut smoked bacon has lured me to many a work day. The cafe's owner is always meticulous when she prepares it: the filling is taken out of the sandwich and microwaved until it just steams, perfectly timed so that the egg and bacon are hot, but not overcooked. She grills the English muffin and cheese in the panini-press, creating cheese crisps along the golden brown crust. Then she puts it back together, and serves it in a paper bag with a napkin. The fact that I can buy one of these sandwiches for under four dollars means that I make the Coffee Break promise to myself a lot. Sometimes, when I'm feeling really indulgent I buy the special coffee of the week, an Almond Mocha or a Chai Latte, and it's good, I enjoy it. Sweet, but still good. Over the years I've also sampled the club sandwich, the tuna melt, the blt and the sausage roll, and everything was equally as fantastic. But let's be honest: after the first time I had a breakfast sandwich, I have never gone to Coffee Break without the intention of buying one. I love Caffe W. I think they did a fantastic job with the renovations. The decor is the perfect combination of modern and rustic. The staff are so friendly! They smile when you come in and ask you questions about your day. They proudly bring your choice hot beverage to your table, complete with leaf design! Their coffee is GOOD, too! It's strong enough. That's hard to find in Vancouver. My only suggestions for improvement are: 1.) More organic tea selections. 2.) More healthy snack offerings. 3.) LONGER HOURS! I live a block away and would be here all the time in the late evening studying. I can see that the hours were extended to 7:00pm, but it would be amazing if doors were open until 10pm, especially on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (prime study slots). IM SO SAD! This place was my all time favourite! Since I moved away from the area, I have not been there in a while. I visited today hoping to reminisce on my favourite latte and cozy atmosphere....but boy was I wrong about that! As soon as I walked in I knew that there was something off. I gave it the benefit of the doubt since I saw they were using the same beans and ordered a latte. After my first sip I was positive that caffe w was no longer owned by the same person. The coffee is fantastic. The drink menu itself is simple and it works well for those who have respect and appreciation for good coffee. They offer a variety of choices in beans when ordering espresso based beverages and their drip coffee is brewed fresh all day long. They offer a fair selection in light meal options, snacks, and gelato too. I'm personally a huge fan of the yogurt cherry danish and their breakfast wraps which they serve with a side of salsa that hits the spot in the morning. The staff are incredibly friendly and don't miss a beat. I've never been to a shop where the staff greet you within seconds of setting foot in the store no matter how busy they are and they all say goodbye as soon as you're getting up to go. This to me is far more important then anything else and will keep me coming back. The shop itself is small but still quite generous when it comes to seating and table space. It sits right on the eastbound #99 B-line stop at Broadway and Alma making it a perfect place to stop in and grab a cup before you set out for the day or even to grab a seat and hunker down so you can get some work done. The interior of the shop has a very rustic yet posh feel to it and it features edison style light bulbs which give off just enough light for one to comfortable work with but not so much that you feel like you're a product on a show room floor. read more
