I love this café! I first discovered it during COVID, when there was no table service - they operated strictly through online orders and scheduled pickups. And then, Flourist quickly became one of my favourite places for breakfast or lunch. I love the warm and welcoming ambience. The food is consistently excellent - some of my favourites include their daily sandwich, cardamom bun (SO GOOD), quiche and fresh salad. I also love their homemade branola, which pairs perfectly with my yogurt. Their coffee is also very good. The food isn't cheap but you get absolutely what you pay for. They also sell bread, prepared food, baking ingredients like their specialty flour. Service is always warm and friendly. They also have a great loyalty program, so be sure to sign up. I come here at least once a month - which means I really like it a lot.

After having this cafe on my wish list for years, I finally made it to Flourist. Being a sourdough fan, I had to bring a loaf home (sadly, they don't have a slicer, so I ended up with some pretty uneven slices ). The loaf was great, with a pretty strong sour taste. I also tried their cardamom bun, but after eating so many during my time in Scandinavia, this one unfortunately fell short of the ones across the continent. I appreciate that their baked goods seem to be sourdough-based as well; however, I didn't think it meshed well with the cardamom flavor profile. The coffee was good, but not necessarily memorable. I'm curious to try their ricotta toast next time! The ambiance was quite nice, with a clean wood palette. I noticed a diverse mix of customers on a weekday afternoon, ranging from people working in the cafe to small families enjoying a coffee break.

Honey cakes and Strawberry Lemon Sugar Cookies

For dessert today, we ordered the honey cake and strawberry lemon sugar cookies. The pastries were rich, not too sweet but light as well. What a nice treat for tea time.

I happened to be staying about a mile away from this bakery while visiting Vancouver and luckily I had heard of the brand! So of course had to check it out while in town. I stopped in for lunch one day and tried the sandwich of the day. They had a delicious vegetarian special sandwich on fresh focaccia bread. It was the best! Roasted veggies and feta cheese mixed together for the tastiest bite, yum! I also picked up one of their famous choc chip cookies for the road. It also lived up to the expectations. The inside of the bakery is really cute and I love that they sell their own baking and cooking ingredients so you can pick something up instead of going to the grocery store for specialty items.

Left - Vanilla Latte Right- London Fog

We came to this bakery after a morning at the farmers market and had a vanilla latte and London fog. Both drinks were smooth, served at the right temperature and delicious. I order the chocolate chip cookie, which they claim to be the best ever :) it was good, but not the best ever. The cashier was very kind and the atmosphere had a hipster vibe. Definitely recommend this bakery/cafe if you're in the area.

    Pizza night: Squash kale pizza

Been a big fan of the Flourist for years. Branding is on point. They support local farmers; they know how to balance flavour and texture in their offerings from the bakery. So happy they are running Pizza nights now. Im usually in this area at night and often miss the business hours. Pizza offers the perfect solution to continue their services into dinner hours. Pizza nights are currently Thursdays and Fridays. The staff is always so lovely and accommodating. This evening we ordered the squash and kale pizza. Squash sauce topped with mozzarella, shaved parmesan and crispy AF kale :P We added red pepper flakes and chilli oil, as it needed just a tiny bit more flavour. Here some thinly sliced apples would have also been great, to put it over the top....it just needed one more thing for it to be a 10/10. As per usual their cinnamon bun for dessert was flawless. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for a chill date night, casual family meal, or any friend date.

I picked some baked goods, Best ever chocolate chip cookie and Seasonal bar(summer berry pie bar). Unfortunately, because of the heat wave, chocolate was melted and it turned mess but delicious indeed. They use 70% valrhona dark chocolate, but the salt on the top emphasizes sweetness. Well made cookies. The cafe is very interesting. It's like a mix of mill, cafe and gift shop. Outside patio looked cozy because of some trees around there and not so busy street attached. Perfect atmosphere for chill.

I was super excited to try this place while visiting Vancouver, so I went early before 9am on a Saturday in case items began selling out. To my disappointment, there were only cookies and a couple of pastries ready on the display case by then. I would almost want to give them one star less because of that but the staff explained that they only have one oven and suggested to come around 10am next time. Aside from that, I really liked the interior, the pastries and drinks we had were yummy, and the staff were friendly. I would recommend checking it out, but make sure not to come too early!

    Americanos and chocolate chip cookie

Today was the first time I've sat in/walked in the store. All the other times were delivery or at their front window during covid. It is very warm and pretty in decorum. I'm a brew/americano simpleton. The Americano was average. Picked up a few things along with four loaves of bread. I'm not kidding, I should've asked.... the following of slicing 4 loaves of bread with a good knife took me 25 minutes with a tumbler of water and a glass of wine. I'm exhausted because I had to sharpen the knife 5 times for those 4 loaves. The bread is dense. They really should offer to slice the bread. Pan Loaf $8 Not my favourite. Sesame Miso Loaf $10 Not my favourite. I understand why they choose miso for the umami complex. It was so mild it could've been dark soy sauce as the agent. Postive, although the flavour is not my favourite. Having a small amount is very filling and feels nutritious with how the grain is grown and processed. It's a healthy bread.

The Flourist pride themselves in milled flour. The whole concept of from farm to table trend of eateries with being traceable origin is their big selling point. This concept is rooted from the age old Canadian protectionism defending Canadian business/economics from anything foreign. Had a Americano a chocolate cookie and a kale scone. Realistically speaking this is where their theory falls short of the practice. This noble concept to protect Canadiana did not actually produce better coffee or pastries. You gotta wonder was this all a gimmick?!? None of the items were particularly outstanding. Pastries portions were small and tasteless, the coffee sour. Yet you will be paying for a pretty penny. The all peachy pastel interior exuded a very bold periodic statement of fashion, you will either love it or hate it. Meh for me. EOD, there's really not much in the hood for anything of outstanding quality, so this becomes the default "hot joint". So so. It's a maybe try.

Location location location ... Flourist why'd you have to be so far away!?! I need you to open up more stores ASAP! Those of you familiar with the Croatian Cultural Centre (shows, dances & events) will have no issue finding this spot. You will be coming here for a quick bite or to pick up your order (place online orders the day before) & go. There is literally nothing around here to stay for! Now to the good stuff - the baked goods & menu items totally rock! Try the Best Ever Choc Chip Cookie (literally what it's called) & the Cinnamon Buns made of sourdough which rival the ones at Grounds for Coffee. However, Flourist why don't you sell extra icing cause the only way to truly eat Cinnamon buns is when you can't see them!?!! Your taste buds will flip back to a time when foods were ... naturally organic in taste via the Epic Salad!!! However, to be honest I found it to be way too healthy for me! Yikes don't hate me cause I'm sexy! Remember to pick up a loaf of sourdough bread as well! Thank you for all the tips fellow Yelper - Arleen! Newsflash Hot Tip alert - highly recommend you call ahead or place your on-line orders the day before pickup by - 3pm as required, then head down here the next day. That way you won't be disappointed by just showing up & finding they've sold out of what you really wanted to try! You're welcome! More good news - Flourist caters to all you yoga loving, grass eating, health conscious fanatics - veganism is served for you right here! Yuck! In all seriousness please have a look at Flourists webpage in the 'about' section for an interesting read on where the grains used for baking here are sourced! Flourist is my new hot bakery! If you live in this area - consider yourself lucky!

Places like this always somehow manage to show up on my radar and I will typically make a trek from my security guarded private gated trailer park community to this part of town to get my fixings. Clean bright and modern interior design is Flourist. A play on the word florist. See my pics. Give it a try. Sourdough pan load $6 ea.

It feels like 2019 will be the year of bread in my life, and another one just invaded my wallet, ever creeping with its doughy hands always making money magically disappear, well here is the new place and it is one that once you arrive you are welcomed by the soft light colors of their storefront and once you enter you see a wall filled with house-brand baking ingredients. I can tell you the first time I came here was the second day, around 4 PM and they were totally sold out of bread, so I made a revenge return on Labour Day (yes.. they were open) and after the person also told us you can try out toast it stuck in my mind, and after looking at their Instagram feed of their opening 2 days it was on our agenda. We came back the next day at 10:30 AM and there was a lineup, and yes, you could smell the freshness of bread coming out of the oven. We lined up, took in the newness of this storefront and had to decide what we wanted to order. Everything really looks so good here and you really do want to try it all and we started out with a pressed yogurt toast and an Americano with a seeded pan loaf to take home (a little about that later). They provide you a number to put at your table and bring it to you when ready. They have a great place, with many baking cookbooks along the front near the counter (elevated bar-type seating) with some real good ones... like Tartine (if you know.. you know). There is different types of seating that is great, whether you are by yourself, with someone else, or with more than one other person but the substance is what you are taking from this place, is it good..... When you tell me, hey try our toast you really are not selling it to me with enough emphasis, so when we ordered this we really had no expectations except for the bread it was being served on. Something so simple in title was just so good, the pressed yogurt was a version that was so thick and dense it was like cream cheese, also on top was hazelnuts and honey. So simple, yet so good, believe the hype, believe the pictures their toast from the bread up to the toppings is amazing. The bread they are using is dense, not your quick fix and run to work type toast, this is how it is meant to be when you want to enjoy something so pure and I do have to mention the coffee they are serving is real smooth, a perfect pairing to whatever you are having here. We also had the chance to try their cheese dream and cinnamon toast and they were just as delicious, I do not think you can go wrong. Eventually we took our new loaf of bread home, and this was after a good hour and it was amazingly still warm. The bread we bought was very hearty, and very clean with the ingredients they are using, as it is their OWN FLOUR!!! It makes a huge difference and this place has become a go to whenever I am thinking of bread... I am thinking of their sourdough, that will be a next time purchase. So whether you want to buy what they make, or buy what they are using to make bread (even their house made sourdough starter) you can. Looking forward to the next time they "Take my $$$!"

I was meeting a friend here yesterday who's visiting from California, and when deciding on a meeting place, we realized a bunch of the Gastown coffee roaster places were closed on Sunday, so I mentioned Breka , knowing it was opened 24/7. (LOVE this!). Plus, this site is close to Waterfront Station, and my friend had a busy day planned, taking the Seabus to N.Van and doing a lot of sightseeing. So this Breka was perfect. I was there early at 10 am-ish, and from the outset, I was impressed: exposed brick wall, long counter and display case, fully stocked with the most beautiful pastries and tarts and cakes, and lovely looking sandwiches, too....Just lovely. I ordered a tea from the guy taking the orders. At the check-out, the woman working the cashier was the most unfriendly, aloof person I have ever encountered at a Breka. She was downright dour. Never looked up, never smiled, said I owed X for the tea I ordered, gave me a receipt and said I was "number 3", no "thank you" (despite my saying thanks!), nothing. She looked really unhappy and bothered to be there. (I sat at a nearby table, waiting for my number to be called. I saw her interactions with all the people behind me - and there were quite a few, as it got suddenly busy in the cafe. She was cold and unfriendly to everyone in line as she rang them all up. These are mostly tourists! Why have a dour, borderline-hostile woman at the check-out counter of a busy cafe in a touristy part of our city? I just don't get it). Anyhow, I waited 10 minutes to hear my number called, but I never heard it. I walked up to the take-out area and there was my tea, on a receipt that said "number 3". Did they call out my number? I honestly don't know. I was seated at a table a few feet from the area and listening for my number and I didn't hear it called. I was not impressed with this set-up. Not at all. My friend arrived and got a chocolate concoction which looked amazing, and he loved it, so there's that. I still love Brekas but I probably won't return to this site. Between the cold experience at the cash and the prolonged waiting for my order (a cup of tea!), and not being sure if my order number was ever called, it just all left me with a bitter taste in my mouth.

The cake is definitely prettier than the other fresh mango cakes on the market, has a lot more mangos that are perfectly ripe and sweet, there is less wipped cream, and the sponge cake is softer. The family agreed that Gary's has the best fresh mango cake but at $69 for a 6 inch cake, versus $43 for a 6 inch mango cake from Saint Germaine, a cake from Gary's is definitely a treat and for special occasions.
