Since we were just stopping in for a little break on our walk back to the train station we decided to just grab a carrot baby cake to try. The original West Hastings location holds a special place -- when they first opened, their bars and cookies were genuinely memorable, little treats that lingered delightfully on the palate. The Whistler location has been consistently reliable; we always leave with a loaf of bread and a selection of bars. The Mount Pleasant location is newer to me. Parking can be a bit of a challenge during office hours, and on my most recent visit, I tried a loaf and two pastries. Sadly, none were particularly memorable. Their laminated pastries are less flaky than some might hope. The almond croissant with marzipan filling was decent but lacked the richness and sweetness I usually crave -- more of a pudding-like hybrid than the decadent treat I remember. Looking back, it seems many of the recipes have evolved over the years, and I can't say I have a true favourite to recommend at this point. I'm more of a soft and fluffy type of loaf and although some of them are like that on the inside, all of the loaves I've tried have too hard of an exterior for my taste. I really like their unique flavours and I tend to lean towards the cheddar jalapeño loaf more often than not. I don't have the biggest sweet tooth but for a nice small birthday celebration, their coconut passionfruit cake is pretty other worldly. They slice open the croissant to put their ham and cheese in. I doubt they make their own croissants in-house. Their butter croissant looked pale and unappetizing. The spinach ham brioche was mostly brioche and not even good brioche. The scone was ok but definitely would not get again. The ham and cheese twist tasted like they used puff pastry. The ham and cheese croissant tasted like a costco croissant. Americano was sour. Haven't tried any of the desserts I got, but I don't have high hopes. The neighborhood this Purebread location is in is a hidden gem far comfier than the waterfront false creek area (currently over populated). Purebread has blocked off a section along the bike route on Ontario for their covered patio / outdoor seating situation, they currently have 4 large picnic tables setup for patrons, do note: they are currently window service & credit card only. The rotation of goods are on display along the storefront windows, the only downside is not ever knowing what to get!!! Always a feast for the eyes. I was craving their class lemon meringue bar today, and unfortunately that particular item was not in rotation at that time. I opted for the last slice of a coconut buttermilk cake slice and newest in the 'pastry case', a blackberry lemon bar (close enough to satisfy cravings). The bar was delicious and generously portioned to the point I would/could have it as a light meal. I enjoyed the tanginess of the blackberry which was a nice change in palette to the heavier creamy base. Their coconut cake was likewise enjoyable, though I knew it'd be heavier as a buttermilk based cake, this slice was too much for one sitting because slightly dense for my liking. Flavour wise, the coconut was definitely there, the sweet aromas carried through each bite. The ganache coating was just sweet enough as a midday dessert. I highly recommend the trek to Purebread when in the false creek neighborhood. My suspicion is that management doesn't give a fig about customer service. Over $15 for two coffees and a rock hard, stale pastry that tasted strongly of baking soda or baking powder- this taste overpowered any other faint flavor that was present. They did not offer vanilla lattes, which is fine on its own, but there's no need to be rude or condescending about it when someone tries to order one. I have enjoyed Purebread in the past, but the quality and overall experience has declined dramatically and I will not return. read more

I'm so glad I don't live nearby otherwise I'd spend my entire paycheck here and would probably gain 20lbs a month. It's like a candy store for baked good lovers. There is a massive selection of baked goods in their display and they are also quite large pieces. The items are average Vancouver prices but definitely bigger and better. Great selection of vegan options too for our plant based friends. Today I went home with their bacon chives scone, mustache shortbread cookie, chocolate almond croissant and a lemon bar. I've only tried the scone so far but it is by far one of the best I've had. Scones tend to be quite dry but not this one! I even ate it cold on the drive home and loved every bite of the buttery flakey treat. Last time I was here I tried their chocolate chip cookie. It was crispy on the outside, a little cakey on the inside. I prefer a little more chew but it was still an "A". Lots of parking around with seats inside and outside. Purebread's treats are some of my favourite in the city. I've visited their Downtown location numerous times, but never been to their Mount Pleasant location. I was dining at Tacofino across the street earlier this week and since I was a bit early, I hopped on over to Purebread to pick up a box of goodies. One of my favorite things about Purebread is that there is a treat for everyone. They have plenty of options ranging from vegan, vegetarian, gluten sensitive, nut sensitive, fruity, savoury, sweet, and more. I've tried numerous things from Purebread now, with their lemon raspberry bar, chocolate bottomed banana bread, and brownie cheesecake being at the top of my favourites list. Thankfully, they had all of those left when I popped in so I grabbed all three of those, plus an additional lemon loaf and a veggie roll. As always, everything was fresh, rich in flavour and decadently delicious. For how large each treat is $3-$5 per treat is a steal, that I don't mind paying. During Covid times this particular location isn't open for dine in. All their goodies are displayed at the windows at the front of the store and you go to the door to place your order and they'll hand you your goodies. Staff are masked up and there is plexiglass in between you and the staff. This location is much easier to get to than Downtown given how much surrounding parking there is, so I will be frequenting this Purebread location often - much to the dismay of my bank account and much to the excitement of my belly. I've been here twice now, once for a snack and then back a few months later for lunch, and was super impressed both times. They have an impressive rotating selection of bakes, including whole cakes and loaves of bread in addition to single serving treats. They have lots of savoury baked goods and a small selection of sandwiches. Their savoury stuff is well-balanced between vegetarian and meat selections. Their current set-up is window service, with the food displayed in the window that you line up against as you wait. This gives you plenty of time to take in the options! They have four picnic tables set up in a patio area if you want to stay and eat. The service is friendly and quick. Between my two visits I tried their Pudgie Pie (hand pie filled with potato, caramelized onion, feta, and chevre), Pistachio Lime Zucchini Loaf, and Coconut Buttermilk Cake Slice, and also a latte. I really liked the textures of the cheeses in the Pudgie Pie and the caramelized onions added a deep rich flavour. The crust was also perfectly flaky. Both of the sweet bakes I tried really delivered on flavour and texture. I like the coarse but fluffy crumb of their cakes, and the frosting on both was indulgent and delicious, but I really liked the cream cheese frosting the pistachio loaf had going on. (I saw that they sometimes offer this loaf in cake form on my latest visit, and was tempted to get it, but decided to try something new and I'm glad I did because the coconut was also divine!) Even though they're not known for their coffee, the latte was amazing and if they taste like that consistently, it puts Purebread in my top two places to get a coffee in Vancouver. So happy they opened more branches in Vancouver since I'd always stop by their shop whenever I'm in Whistler. This location is definitely more spacious than their Whistler Village location but they offer the same delicious baked goods like their crack bar and brownies. Glad that it wasn't too full when we came here for coffee and dessert and we easily got a table by the window. Their display is so enticing and everything looks sooo good that it's definitely hard to choose which one to get. We finally settled on their salted caramel brownie sandwich and their raspberry cream brioche with an americano and an almond milk latte. The pastries were great! I love that their aren't cloyingly sweet and definitely well made. My husband loved the brownie sandwich so much that we came back the next day to buy more. The americano was ok but my almond latte had a bit of a burnt/overly steamed almond milk, coffee was too roasted and I think the proportions of the coffee and milk were a bit off -- it wasn't that bad but I just didn't enjoy it as much. It can get a bit confusing as to where the line starts for ordering, you can stand there for a while without anyone minding you. We wanted to get some quick brekkie before travelling up North for a hike. Purebread is the millennial's dream with its beautiful, open and bright aesthetic. It's also any human being's greatest baked goods fantasty because from the moment you walk in, all you'll notice is just piles and piles of sweet and savory goodness. It was so hard to decide what I wanted because my eyes went everywhere to the loaves of bread to the decadent brownies and savory scones. It was SO difficult! I decided to try their jalapeno cheddar scone in house (IT IS SO GOOD, definitely get it toasted)...and it was my most favorite item. I was merely curious about the lavender and rosemary scone (a bit too floral for me) and the chevre brownie (yup, you read that right...goat cheese). Both items wouldn't be what I'd order again, but I love that there are creative baked yums that those who dare to can try! They also have a little coffee/drinks area. I got some earl grey tea just to go with my scone, which was delightfully perfect. Their restroom is one stall and very clean. The wifi is also very strong, and there is a lot of seating for families, single diners and small kids. It's a bus-yourself-after-eating situation which is awesome! The location is central but hidden down a side street. It's the kind of place you notice walking or driving by. It's trendy and tasteful with a slight European design. This trendy pastry shop was quite busy. Employees seemed confused and distracted. I asked an employee what she recommended. She didn't have a clear knowledge of the products.Which means that it's unlikely that the employees have tried many of the pastries. When employees haven't tried the food they don't know how to describe it to customers. That's a mistake on the managers part. I bought two pastries and a drink and my bill was $20 Ouch! I got some kind of berry cheese cake and it was stale. My medium size drink came in a very small cup and wasn't even full to the top. It's cold so we wanted to sit inside. There wasn't much room for sitting inside. So what do I think over all... Atmosphere: Nicely designed trendy space with charm and potential. Food: Over priced food and drinks in small portions. $$$ Pastries look delicious but tasted several days old. Service: Polite but disorganized staff that need more training. No clear method of where to line up or who your paying. Disorganized system. Prices: everything was over priced. The food several dollars more than the normal bakery. The drinks were ridiculously priced and came in very small cups. About $7 an item. When the server poured my drink from a for-here-cup into it to-go-cup it only filled just over half way. Not good. You can still see their baked goods on display in the window as you queue to place your order at their entrance. We picked a little bit of everything: Avalanche Bar, Raspberry Cheesecake Brownie, Krack Bar, Chocolate Almond Croissant, Bacon Sour Cream Chive Scone, Lemon Lavender Scone, and Raspberry White Chocolate Scone. I've been to Purebread before and I love most of their items, but I've never been to this location prior to today. I only got two items since I was pretty full from eating at Tacofino across the street. I've seen these items at other locations before, but I've never gotten around to trying them. Peanut Butter Shorties (5/5) This was so good. The layer of shortbread with the layer of peanut butter on top coated in a layer of chocolate and peanuts was the perfect combination. The treat itself wasn't overly sweet, and the presentation was great as well. Flourless Brownie (4.5/5) This was very good as well. It was a tad too sweet, but the chocolate flavour was rich and the crunch at the top was something that I had been looking for in a long time. The texture was fudge-like, and combined with the crackle on top was fantastic. It's quite similar to their outrageous brownies, but I've never tried them side by side so if anyone does, let me know if there is actually any discernible difference between the two (aside from the fact that one is flourless, obviously). My rating is based off of what I bought at Purebread today; this was my first time going. I ordered a lemon chevre brownie, a butter tart, and a passionfruit coconut bar. The brownie was too sweet for my taste. I was hoping it wouldn't be overly sweet because of the lemon chevre filling, but unfortunately I could not detect either of those flavours. The chocolate overpowered them. However, the texture of the brownie was spot on. The butter tart's crust checked all the right boxes - flaky, tender, and buttery. The filling had raisins in it, which weren't my favourite but that's more of a personal preference. Compared to other places I've tried butter tarts from, Purebread's was quite good. Finally, the passionfruit coconut bar; my absolute favourite of the three. Visually, I could instantly tell what the flavours were. The passionfruit packed a punch in every bite, the coconut flakes added a nice texture and allowed coconut flavour to shine alongside passionfruit, and the crust on the bottom melted in my mouth. There were so many desserts on display at Purebread that making a decision on what to get is next to impossible. You'll want to grab one of everything! Even when I asked for a recommendation, the server couldn't list just one item (not even when I asked what the bestseller was). Simply put, there's always a reason to go to Purebread! I just realized this location is just around the corner from the tattoo studio I go to, a perfect treat after hours of ink. The space is very open and bright. There's plenty of different seating space from bar stools, tables, bench seating and a communal table. It's pretty buzzing on a weekend but people come and go pretty quickly. Lots to choose from whether it be coffee, tea or hot chocolate - or maybe even a seasonal drink but... The hardest part about this place is choosing what you want to eat! It truly is a feast for your eyes - the table is packed with all types of carb-tastic treats! From savoury to sweet to healthy to downright sinful! Some of my favourites are their Chocolate Croissants (flakey, buttery layers with rich chocolate); Bacon, Sour Cream & Chives Scone (moist, dense scone with salty, savoury flavours) and their Toffee, Apple Tart (like apple pie's naughty sister, sweet sticky toffee and tender apple slices). Purebread is dangerously good. Part of me wants to stop going for health reasons; the other part wants to keep going, because even after several trips, I've only sampled a tiny fraction of the absolutely dizzying array of goodies they have on display. And everything is good! Cookies are always my favourite baked treat, and the cookies here are very good; most have a nice chewy texture, and the flavours are nice without being too sweet. But they have a bunch of other stuff too, from things like cheddar cornbread (yum!) to random things like chocolate chip bars or brownies mushed together with caramel, from boozy cakes to mini tarts. It's a wonderland of delicious carbs. The drinks are perfectly good, with nice mochas and lattes that I've had and a reasonable selection of teas. I do wish they had tea lattes - in a town like Vancouver, it seems like a bit of an oversight that they don't have any at all. The location is very spacious with seating. They do not have outside seating but who needs it with such lovely decor. There scrumptious offerings are vast and is basically the same as their Hastings location. Lots of pastries, breads and of course cakes. They also serve coffee, cold drinks, sandwiches and hearty loaves of bread. They are open everyday from 8am to 6pm. The staff are friendly and are able to give you recommendations. Trust me it's all good. Everything I've ever had from Pure Bread has tickled my taste buds and left me with a warm fuzzies. This is my favourite place to get my sugar fix.
