Whenever I visit a Starbucks with my dog, I ask for a pup cup. If I happen to forget to order one for her, she gives me a look as if to ask, "Where is my treat?" I had a really disappointing experience here today. I ordered my drink, sat down. A woman working there was cleaning and as she walked by I noticed her and politely acknowledged her with a smile. She gave me a dirty look and walked off. Moments later, she comes back to me to tell me I couldn't be in the store unless I ordered something. I explained that I had already ordered. Not even a minute later, a man walked in from off the street asking only for the bathroom code. He hadn't ordered anything, yet the same employee gave him the code without hesitation. When I politely asked why I was confronted but he wasn't, her exact response was "Because I did." No explanation, no apology, just open inconsistency and acceptance of that customers are treated differently in this store. The employee was visibly hostile and completely unapologetic about giving different customers different treatment. The issue isn't the bathroom code; it's the double standard. I came in here while I was waiting for my car to be repaired when it acted up unexpectedly this morning. After sitting for a few minutes I was told by an employee that I had to make a purchase if I wanted to stay. A new policy put in this year, "I'm sorry," they said. I've been a loyal starbucks gold card customer for decades and I have never been harassed like this at a starbucks for simply sitting there. We stop by here when driving up to Lake Arrowhead from time to time. It has no drive thru but there is lots of parking. Customer service was ok here. I ordered a cappuccino and honestly it tasted like water. No taste of coffee whatsoever. Just water and milk. I would have gone back to ask for another but we had already driven off when I took my first sip. Starbucks used to be good but not anymore. Since we couldn't find any place to park, we were forced to go through the drive thru to pick up. I came here to study for my college exams with the intentions of ordering a beverage off the mobile app later throughout the day. Particularly, relative to when I felt ready to intake caffeine. However, I was told to leave, for not purchasing a beverage immediately. Additionally, it is important to note, that I was told I cannot use the bathroom unless I purchase something upon entry into the store. From where, I told said worker (a heavier woman for the sake of accuracy) my intentions to purchase something on the app. She reluctantly gave me the code and I used the bathroom. Although from here, she began to stare at me from outside the store. Moreover, I was only sitting outside for approximately 15 mins - reading for school. Again, waiting, for when I needed to intake caffeine. In that, I was still able to study without caffeine. This is where another worker came outside, telling me I need to purchase something right away to use said space. Albeit, it is important to note, it probably wasn't her fault. She was most likely sent out by the heavier worker to kick me out. Overall, I am writing this, to warn college students and people in general that the establishment is not a safe area to study or work in. It puts barriers on peoples ability to use public space which is a human rights violation. And, is most likely, ran by a person that, does not care for the well-being of people. Instead, they value, material property. Such as a store, more than the people who look to attend as guests. Separately, I have been reading other reviews, where other innocent people are kicked out the store, for not purchasing an item. Given the premise of, "New Company Policy". However, it is important to recognize, that these policies involve individual store discretion. As in, it is up to the store manager to dictate whether the policy is enforced or not. Which is why, most Starbucks Locations do the opposite. Instead having a "open door policy" that allows people to sit freely and use the bathroom without an imminent purchase. Because of the information above, the assertion of "new company policy" is not fully true. Rather, it is whoever that is in charge of this individual store (the manager) that is constituting this human rights violation. Again given that, most stores within Los Angeles Country do not enforce it. Furthermore, if you are the manager or someone in a position of authority reading this from the store, I hope you reflect on your actions. I am not upset just disappointed. People have bodily functions they can't control. Like, a person who has to pee or a woman on her period. Yet, you barrier the entry from your bathroom. Only to then, privatize outdoor space. Shown by you, kicking people out for not immediately buying a cup of coffee. I hope whoever reads this as well, is safe if they plan to attend the store. These people should not be allowed to bully us. We are all people. And given class dynamics, it is discriminatory to allow entry into public necessities off the basis of a purchase of a coffee. Specifically since, some people simply can't afford to conveniently buy a cup of coffee. Precisely, those from Marginalized communities. Customer service was not good at all. The staff was not accommodating. When I was at the counter, I asked to order a decaf lavender oat milk latte since I cannot have caffeinated beverages while pregnant. The staff member -- whose name I forgot to get -- said they couldn't make it decaf. However, I know that the espresso shot can be replaced with a decaffeinated one, which I usually request when ordering from other Starbucks branches. She insisted that they could not make the beverage I wanted. Since I didn't want to argue with her, especially with people waiting behind me, I decided to order what I usually get. My order was just left at the counter and did not even call out my name nor the beverage that was ready. I was not happy with this Starbucks. My coffee tasted great. But the restroom was closed. My hubby was at Kaiser getting treatment and I couldn't be there with him. I got something to eat and coffee at Starbucks. I was expecting to eat it at the store. So I wanted to wash my hands. I couldn't because the restroom was closed. I even let the associate know that I needed to wash my hands in order to eat my sandwich. I was told that I could not go to the restroom and at least wash my hands. I was disappointed. It feels as though they took some kind of storage utility closet, that runs the length of the building, and created a Starbucks in it as a dare. However, there is a certain convenience to this particular Starbucks, so long as you do not plan to park anywhere near it. Many otherwise ambulatory people seem to camp out for the six closest spots, and downright harass anyone that tries to enter their queue. Remember the angry ghost on the subway in the movie of the same name who teaches Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) how to break stuff? And only because he really really really needed a drag off a cigarette? Yeah? They're kinda like that. The good news is, it's a big lot. And, if you park over near Best Buy, it's usually wide open. Just be advised: you know those XXXXL Philadelphia eagles jerseys they sell at Ross Dress for Less next door? Well, the guy who buys those goes to the Starbucks. And do you know that guy who wears so much Drakkar Noir from 1994 that you can smell him two decades later? He buys Venti red eyes here. Not that I'm judging you or anything... Oh wow! Monica, the barista/supervisor has the worst customer service! She not only speaks to customers with an attitude but power trips so much that she takes into her hands to change corporate policy. I just had to make a point to her so I called Starbucks corporate to make sure I wasn't wrong. My husband bought a drink the day before, it was made with soy in their error (have an allergy to soy), couldn't come back the same day to have it remade so, I stopped in the day after. She persisted that I should have been back that same day and wouldn't make me the drink, but rather she criminalized and depicted a picture of me as someone that is lying to get a free drink because it's "impossible" my husband bought at that Starbucks. Btw: I had proof that it was purchased the day before on his Apple Pay transaction thread. Her request was so bizarre and strange that the people standing next to me encouraged me to call corporate and file a report against her. So.....The policy is that whichever Starbucks I've purchased it or whenever, if for any reason it was made in error, they cannot refuse remaking it at any Starbucks. Corporate was awesome and their customer arrived was spot on in winning my heart back again :-) but please, take disciplinary action against Monica, because i don't want individuals like that to treat others this way and ruin the name and reputation of a location! This store is tucked away in a corner next to Ross, but also near a major street if that makes any sense. I get a as sense that I'm the mornings this is a place to go for mature audiences. And at night it's a Pokémon catching zone. Juan was super friendly and helpful. I don't usually go to Starbucks often. So when I'm given an order I'm trying to understand. The staff looks like they genuinely enjoy working here. They did an exceptional job in decorating and dressing up during Halloween. I hope that they're all getting paid adequately for their respective positions. This Starbucks in particular made us feel very welcomed and had excellent customer service, especially the cashier we encountered today (forgot to get her name, but was dressed as the king for halloween) to make the experience worth it! After I ordered my drink , I waited to have it made. there wa at least 3 employees and the there was no one manning the station , and there was no other customer around . I would've expected a lot more from a Starbucks in Hastings Village. But if you want your coffee with a side of attitude, this is the place for you. I witnessed a barista roll her eyes a few times when having to be "troubled" to repeat the restroom code to an elderly wheelchair-bound gentleman a few times because he couldn't hear her. And the worst part was the barista was the one speaking super softly and unhearable so it's not even the elderly man's fault! Same attitude when I ordered...she was very short and also just annoyingly pointed to the scanner when I tried to pay with my Starbucks app, which is usually fine, but in this case the scanner was behind some display crap so I had to sort of reach around to scan it.
