I had an incredibly frustrating and frankly disappointing experience this morning that completely changed how I view this location. It started with a very simple request: an ice water and a cup of ice. I was fully prepared to pay whatever small charge was required--this wasn't about getting something for free, it was about basic service and common courtesy. Instead, I was flatly refused unless I ordered something off the menu. I was told, without any flexibility or effort to help, that it was she was "sorry" and there was "nothing I could do" leading me to believe this is a new policy. What made this even more unacceptable is the context. This location sits near a professional and medical center in a fairly isolated area, where options are extremely limited. It's hard not to feel like that convenience--and near-monopoly on access--is being taken advantage of. Denying something as basic as water or ice, especially when a customer is willing to pay, feels less like policy and more like profit over people. To make matters worse, there was zero attempt at customer care. Effort to help me navigate the situation was lacking--she could have recommend the cheapest possible item so I could still get what I needed. Just a rigid refusal. For a global company that prides itself on customer experience and community, this interaction felt cold, dismissive, and completely out of touch. Refusing such a basic request sends a very clear message: customer needs come second to squeezing every possible dollar--even in situations where a little humanity would go a long way. I try to come here when I'm on this side of town. The store has always been immaculate. I really appreciate that. Service is fantastic. They greet you when you walk in the door. That means a lot to me. Drinks come out quickly. What more can you ask for? Well, let me tell you. These guys have the most amazing mobile order pick up set-up ever. As in anywhere! One thing that is a constant frustration at the Mace store is being able to get someone's attention to pick up your mobile order. Here, they are all in easy view, right within reach, and you can just pick up your order and leave. But you know what? They still greet you. And that is flippin amazing. Five star management! When Jesse at the DRIVE THRU sees you driving up to the ordering window, he kindly greets you by name and lets you know your order status. DONT USE THEIR DRIVE THROUGH WHEN BUSY!!! This Starbucks drive through is the worst when busy. They get rushed and cannot seem to be able to make a coffee right. Today I used their drive through and ordered two mochas and that part went well. You would think if you lay $12.50 down for two drinks you would at least get it right. Not the case here, the girl hands me my change hinting for a tip then hands me two drinks. I put them down and start to drive off and when I took my first sip something did not seem right. I ordered a venti (large) and the coffee was at the two thirds full and no whip on it at all. I look at the other one and the same. By that time I was on the freeway. This particular location has consistently friendly employees, both in the store and the drive thru (yes, there is a drive thru!). For that, they deserve all the stars. They're friendly and chipper! I love being served by employees who have great camaraderie and love what they're doing. There is limited parking in the lot, and it's technically forbidden to park next door at Burger King or in the parking lot of the medical offices across the street. Lots of seating! Tall tables, short tables, a comfy bench with tables and some plush chairs. If it's not finals week, seating is even more plentiful. There is a gated patio out front with umbrellas. Now that it's summer, I highly recommend one of their cold brew coffees with cold foam. The salted caramel cold foam is delicious! The foam itself is sweet, creamy, and surprisingly fluffy-looking. It melts slightly into the smooth brew below, and it's very picturesque. It's a great ice-cold drink to beat the summer heat! If you're looking for a pastry, I recommend the lemon loaf. It's moist, thick, and the sweet tang of the icing is a lovely pairing with the lemony flavor of the cake. It seems like you get great quantity and quality with this pastry. It is only appropriate that my 100th review is on a Starbucks location...and my favorite one at that! I was first introduced to this location during my freshman year at UCD. My friends and I came often since it is spacious and quiet. They have ample outlets, privacy, and comfortable seating. Their drinks and service are also consistently good here. They have a private lot for parking, and even a drive thru if you're in a hurry! My favorite drinks are the Peach Green Tea Lemonade and the Caramel Brulee Latte. Too bad both are seasonal drinks! I'm a bit sad I didn't frequent this location much after freshman year, since it is a bit out-of-the-way. Will definitely miss it! My wife and I have had it with this location and the baristas it seems to me that they can't follow simple directions when it comes to making a drink. We like the iced London fog tea latte but for some reason it's too much trouble or it takes too long to make so they decide to cut corners by using the wrong tea bags. We can taste the difference. When I bring it to their attention they give me excuses and aren't apologetic. It's one thing to forget the butter or cream cheese for your bagel but to mess a drink that is costing me $5 is not acceptable. It clearly states on the menu that it's made with earl gray tea but because they are too lazy to make it they use black tea that they have ready. We tried ordering this drink at other places and they also do the same thing too. If they have trouble making a drink that's on the menu then they should be retrained or take it off the menu. I just reloaded my Starbucks card too I wish I could refund it back to my debit card because I'm going to have to buy the ingredients to make my own at home. I'm sorry, but this place needs to pick up the pace. I ordered a tall flat white on mobile and the Starbucks app said it would be a 3-7 minute wait. I showed up nearly 10 minutes after the time I ordered it and then still waited 15 minutes. That's 25 minutes! For a mobile order! There were so many people waiting around for their order and thankfully not very many people standing in line (which would have greatly added to the already impacted service). They need to seriously update the wait time on the mobile app so it better reflects what that wait time truly is. And yes, also hire more people if it is that busy in the mornings. Oh yes and don't even get me started on the parking lot. O-M-G. Talk about an epic fail. So few spaces, so hard to turn around. This place always has friendly baristas and a cool vibe for relaxing and studying. My only complaint is that 80% of the time, my drip coffee has floating crusties and/or coffee grounds, I assume from the air pots and brewers not being cleaned thoroughly enough. I have asked for replacement coffee a few times because of this, and it usually comes out the same way again. Once, the barista didn't even seem concerned or apologetic about it. This Starbucks is definitely not as pack as the one in downtown and Russell. I came here for the second time and surprisingly there are plenty of tables available. There are also plenty of parking spaces available. The barista are pretty friendly. The restrooms is always clean and I do appreciate they clean them pretty frequently :-). I ordered Salted Caramel Mocha. The drink taste generally the same as any other Starbucks store. In case, you do not want to stay in the store, they have a drive-thru. I worked for Starbucks for years. It amazes me that you can't get a decaf cup of coffee because the employees are too lazy to make it. When I worked for Starbucks we always offered to make a pour over of anything we didn't have brewed. The employees here physically and verbally complain if you ask for a pour over, and literally try to lie and say they can "only do an Americano." I especially love this Starbucks because it has the biggest seating area of all the Starbucks in Davis. Finally! a Starbucks where there's actually seats for me to sit down and enjoy my coffee. I freaking love this Starbucks in town. I'm a little bit disappointed because this used to feel like a hidden gem of Davis and I think the secret got out because it's been a lot busier recently but I'm not even mad about it. The drinks here are always on point (even when I order super annoying customized drinks), the service is super friendly, and the wait is never too long. I generally try and avoid the drive thru because it can be super busy at times (but I don't blame them for that) but when I order ahead it's usually ready in the 3 minutes it takes for me to drive here. And whenever I choose to order inside, the service is also super quick even if they're pretty busy. It can be a little out of the way, but that's what I love about it, that it's tucked away from the main action of Davis. It also is super conveniently located next to the freeway so easy to stop by at your way in or out of town! The outdoor seating is really lovely, and plentiful, and the indoor seating has tons of room for studying or just sitting and chatting. This is my favorite Starbucks in Davis. Okay, to be honest, I have only been this one and the one in downtown, but I like this one way more! And the parking lot allotted to the Starbucks is definitely not big enough for all the people that come here. I've been to every Starbucks in Davis, including the ones inside Target and Safeway, and This is the only place I have issues with. I get it, you're busy dealing with the drive-through orders, but so are the other locations. At least say hi or acknowledge that I'm standing there in front of the cashier. This location is the only place in Davis that will completely ignore you for a few minutes even if you're the only one standing in line. Edit: came back to give this place another shot. I ordered a hot Venti mocha without modifications which should be $4.75, instead I get charged $5.25. Not a huge difference, but the lack of discipline is astounding at this location. Don't come here if you like the blonde roast. It wasn't even 11am and they told me they don't have it, meaning they didn't want to brew it. First they told me they usually stop brewing it between 10:45 and 11am, and at the time it was 10:43 so technically they still should have brewed it. Then the rude af manager took over and said that they stop brewing it at 10am. This is inconsistent with that they told me a previous time here.
