One of my friends talked to me about a Mint Mojito coffee and I just had to try it! I was in Davis so I thought I'd swing by and check it out. The store was pretty busy. People were sitting at almost all the tables working away on laptops or chatting. It seemed to be a super chill vibe. I noticed they had one register and one cashier and she went to help with the service line a bit. This left the register unmanned and a long-ish wait line. I wasn't in a rush so it didn't affect me, but I could see how it could have impacted others more in a hurry. I ordered my drink with oat milk. I liked the variety of milk and add-ins, though it was a little overwhelming. I waited about 20 minutes from start to finish with my order to when I had the drink in my hand. I'm not a super coffee aficionado, but j thought it tasted great. I love that it had real mint in it, too! I recently went to try the new strawberry mint matcha and it was pretty okay! I got mine with oat milk and less sugar but i would definitely recommend no sugar (for those who enjoy less sweet drinks) since there's a lot of sweetness coming from the strawberry. However, I didn't get much of the mint in my drink which was unfortunate because I love a mint strawberry combo. Because it was still pretty sweet, I would definitely say this is a heavier matcha drink. I will always stay tried and true with my mint mojito at Philz though! read more

1 Star -- Hurried Customer Service and Ridiculous Policy We stopped at Philz Coffee in Davis on our way home from a trip, hoping to grab a quick cup of coffee and use the restroom before getting back on the road. It was about 4:45 PM, and the shop closed at 5:00 PM. First surprise: $5.80 for a cup of coffee. Fine--prices are prices. I even tipped the cashier $1.80, bringing a simple cup of coffee to $7.60. Then I asked to use the restroom. I was told no, because they were cleaning it for closing. Seriously? You're still open for another 15 minutes, you're happy to sell me a $5.80 coffee and accept a tip, but a paying customer can't use the restroom because you've decided to clean it before the store actually closes? Yes, I was frustrated and raised my voice a bit. I don't pretend otherwise. But what made the experience even more bizarre was that while I was expressing my complaint to the cashier, another customer--apparently a friend of the cashier--decided to step into the conversation and tell me to "be nice to them" and go use the restroom next door at Chipotle. That pretty much summed up the experience: take the customer's money, close down the restroom early, and then have someone else tell the customer to go use another business's facilities. If the shop is open until 5:00, customers arriving at 4:45 should still receive basic courtesy. If services are shutting down early, the posted closing time should reflect that. Coffee: overpriced. Customer service: 1 star. Restroom policy: 1 star. Overall experience: 1 star. For $7.60 including tip, I expected a cup of coffee and basic courtesy--not directions to Chipotle's restroom. Lots of good coffee shops in Davis but Philz is still in my top 3. Love all the unique drink options and how you can customize them to your preferred sweet and creamy level. This time I got the large iced tiramisu (regular creamy and medium sweet with regular milk) and the large hot butterscotch latte (regular creamy medium sweet with oat milk). Both were absolutely delicious and the perfect level of sweetness. The tiramisu latte is the best tiramisu latte I've had from a coffee shop, and the butterscotch latte was the a great balance of sweet and salty. This is one of the biggest Philz I've ever been in. I've been in four different locations, and this one could be my favorite. Although I was visiting from out of town, I would definitely make this a regular stop for my caffeine addiction. If you have the app, I would suggest ordering ahead then just go in and have a seat and wait till your order is called. They have a small amount of cups for sale, I was hoping they would have some shirts. They did have one dad hat, but it wasn't my style. I love the consistency in the quality of drinks that philz always puts out. The staff are friendly and this looks like a great place to study. although it is a little busy, it is not stuffy which makes the place feel comfortable . They have a great selection of pastries. I want to start off this review by saying I love Philz Coffee but I was so disappointed with my visit at the Davis location. I stopped by Saturday afternoon and the wait was just ridiculous. I placed a mobile order and it wasn't ready at the pick up time which was okay but it took over 10 minutes to get my order. Service was okay, not great. I ordered a medium mint mojito and small pistachio spice. I should have tried the drinks there but I've never had any issues before. Both of the drinks were not good at all. The mint mojito didn't taste like how it normally does and the pistachio spice straight up just tasted like cardamom. Let me start by saying I prefer black coffee, no sweetener. Stopped in Philz on the way to San Francisco because it was recommended by someone when I told them I was a fan of good coffee. Should have done my research before I went. What I expected to be a 10 minute coffee detour turned in to 30. There was pretty heavy traffic getting off the freeway and parking was a pain! The lot closest to the establishment was full, so I had to drive around until I found a spot on the street. As I walked in to Philz, I couldn't believe how long the line was. Probably 20-30 people waiting to order. I pulled out my phone and ordered online so I didn't need to wait in line. Went to the restroom while I waited. After I finished using the facilities, I instantly panicked... no sink! I looked around and thought maybe I was losing it. Nope, no sink! So I left the restroom. As I exited, I was pleasantly surprised to find a communal sink to wash my hands at. Once I finished washing my hands, I realized there were no paper towels, so I wiped my hands on my shorts. Stopped and notified one of the cashiers that there were no paper towels in either of the dispensers... not a big deal, they were BUSY. Based off of their crowd (mostly, if not all, college aged patrons), it's not surprising no one said anything to the staff about the paper towels being out. Maybe they should have a "text the staff" option to let them know when the restrooms/sink need supplies or cleaning. I sat down to wait for my coffee and it came right up. I ordered online via Uber Eats, so they had it in a nice to-go carrier. I took it and left. Even though it was a cold coffee, it came in a paper cup with a compostable lid. Nice that they reduce plastic (this is a city of Davis ordinance, I believe). The coffee I ordered was called "Honey Haze". It's their own hazelnut cold brew with oat milk and honey. I ordered it "creamy" and "medium" honey instead of "sweet". I took a sip and it was SUPER sweet!!! I can't imagine how sweet it would be had I ordered it "sweet". I would say the place is like a Dutch Bros and specializes in overly sweet coffee. Just not my thing, but the coffee had good flavor. It was almost chocolatey. If I didn't know what I ordered and you told me it was a mocha, I'd believe you. Overall, a decent place to try if you like sweet coffee and are a fan of Dutch Bros. I'll probably go back at some point and try one of their light roast black coffees. Definitely NOT the place for a coffee snob like me. Looks like all their roasts are blends and no single origin roasts available. And, as far as I can tell, they don't offer any options to change how your coffee is prepared. I really prefer a pour over if it's offered. I'm sure their cold brew is pretty good by itself. A couple tips... visit when you have plenty of time for traffic and parking. I been wanting to try Philz coffee and the first time I stopped by here they closed early randomly. And then the next time I came there was no close parking at all!! They only have street parking. It's difficult for me to walk so with no handicap parking close by or already occupied is hard for me. But I was in the area so I made way and went even though I parked across the street. 4 business stores down. I would have made less stars but the drink was actually really good so all my stars are due to the drink! The off stars is because of my first sayings and because the worker didn't care at all that I walk with 2 canes so I have no hands to hold a drink. Yet didn't offer at all a bag or to bring it to a table for me so I just find that rude.
