Mishka's Cafe in Davis is a solid choice for a cup of coffee and breakfast. This is especially true if you're a student and want a place to read or study while enjoying your food. There is a lot of table space in the cafe and when UC Davis is in session, I've found many of the tables to be occupied by students doing just that. Mishka's Cafe has been around since 1995 and is a beloved place in Davis. It's a traditional cafe that has a welcoming atmosphere. When you first walk into the cafe you'll see the food case just to your left. It is filled with cafe items such as croissants, muffins, and cookies. There are savory items as well as sweet. I found the quality of the food here to be quite good and unique. Sometimes cafe food just feels like it came from somewhere else, but even if these did, they have a uniqueness about them. For example, the chocolate croissant is very flakey with a good amount of chocolate in the interior. It really surprised me! I also found the ham and cheese croissant to be very rich in flavor. My only gripe about either or these items was the heating method. I'm not sure how they are heated up, but they feel as though they used one of those quick heaters to quickly get them ready rather than a good toaster to get the items nice and crisp. As good as they are they were a bit limp due to the heating method. In terms of coffee, it's perfectly adequate. They have special offerings as well as their traditional menu. I've never had a good experience with my coffee orders from here. Each time I order an iced latte, it comes out watery, flavorless, or just sour. I really am unsure what the hype is with this place. However, I do appreciate that they sell pastries. I have always enjoyed their lemon bars. I also like that they have plenty of seating. As for coffee, I'd rather go elsewhere. read more

Pete's closed downtown, so I've been in search of a regular coffee joint, Mishka's Coffee have a dessert case, where you can be tempted by pastries, where you can pickup a pastry to go along with your beverage. Mint latte was pretty good ($7 after tax and tip). Cafe stays super busy but the seats are rotating in availability if you are willing to wait. I like how they play jazz music instead of songs with lyrics (makes it easier to do work). WiFi connects but it doesn't work so I had to use a hotspot. There's outlets to charge along the wall or at the booth seats. 2 hour parking right outside if you're lucky! read more

Young blonde female staff either having a bad day or just super passive-aggressive. Informed my companion there's no milk substitute (only the cow version - in 2026!) so...too bad?! Then she rung me up for lemonade instead of rooibos tea after I said I don't do sweet drinks. Blueberry crumb cake just ok - of course she gave us the smallest piece. I stupidly tipped because I believe in helping out service people, but not again to the likes of her. My companion didn't want to challenge her - once we realized all the mistakes. What we got: Drinks -Snickerdoodle latte 3.5/5. Creamy and not too sweet, but would've preferred the flavor of snickerdoodle spices to come through a bit more (somewhat muted). Decent price. Aesthetic/Design 4/5 -Larger space though tables are pretty close together and when we went it was pretty packed so expect not a lot of room to maneuver if busy. Tables outside available for seating which is nice (assuming weather is good). Warm colors with decor & design that evokes a rustic, old school cafe vibe. Service 3.5/5 Probably because they're crowded often, more about getting the order down and out! Not rude though which is saying a lot for how many customers they get! Ordered 2 lattes of the same flavor that did take a while but again, wasn't too much of an excessive wait considering the high load of people they have to cater to. read more

Stopped by for coffee and it was pretty busy already by 8:30 on a Saturday morning! They have a great location in the middle of downtown Davis. I wanted to try one of their seasonal drinks so I chose the pumpkin latte since I saw on their Instagram that they make their pumpkin syrup in house. Unfortunately the drink was not pumpkin enough. The top of the drink is covered in cinnamon and it was all I could taste despite trying to mix the drink as much as possible. As a result it just tasted like a cinnamon latte. My husband's drink was much better, love that they had a dirty Thai Tea here (it's called Jolted Thai). They also have an impressive pastry case so lots of things to choose from for you to enjoy with your coffee! The service is truly hit or miss. The guy was super nice but the girl could not crack a smile or say thank you. You could barely even hear her behind the protective screen at the cashier, and she looked so annoyed that I bothered to even ask about our blueberry muffin even though she was the one who never gave it to us... I'll consider coming back to try other drinks in the future since they have a good selection of seasonal options, and I'd love to upgrade my rating, but for now today's first experience was so-so. read more

This place was super cute and the service was amazing!! They accidentally made one of our drinks cold instead of hot and were so kind about fixing up a new drink quickly. After arriving in Davis for an event scheduled for three hours away, I fortuitously got parking right in front of Mishka's and decided to knock out a little work and drink some tea. The place is pretty packed, but I could easily see why: I had a number of solid tea choices, and the chocolate chip cookie I got didn't taste like it had come from a giant vat of cookie dough. My Assam iced tea was brewed perfectly and came from good leaves, not something a lot of other places can say. The service was friendly and easy. Lots of areas to work in, and I appreciated that Mishka's makes it clear that you can work inside at a seat-for-one or on the couches up front, or outside, at one of their many tables. read more

Mishka's is exactly what comes to mind when you think of a locally owned, community coffee shop, whose house made drinks and pastries have become a downtown staple. They are often busy, but that goes to show how popular and well-loved their food and drinks are. It's also super fun to follow their instagram stories to see the new flavors of scones and muffins they serve, which can get super creative! The inside is warm and cozy, with locally-sourced art, and plenty of seating, and the outdoor seating is just as lovely, with a view of the surrounding downtown area. On this visit we ordered a pumpkin latte and a peanut butter mocha, which were artfully made. Their drinks do not tend to be on the sweet side at all- something I really appreciate since I am not much of a sugary drink person. But if you are looking for more Starbucks-like flavor, definitely ask for additional syrup and/or sweetener. We also ordered the peach scone with passion fruit icing, and all I can say is you need to go order one for yourself to truly experience the soft, fruity masterpiece. It can be really easy to make scones wrong, but Mishka's has it down to a science, with perfect balance of moisture with a crumbly texture, tasty fruit pieces dispersed throughout, and a sweet, tangy icing to tie it all together. The food and drinks do tend to be on the pricier side - you are definitely paying for the quality you receive - but they are a perfect every-once-in-a-while treat, or weekly splurge. Mishka's will forever be a top contender among some of Davis's already impressive coffee shops, and I highly recommend stopping by, for the wonderful food and drink, and the comforting community feel. read more

A cafe with a rustic interior and cozy vibe. It appears to be an extremely popular study spot for students and teachers alike because it was super packed when my friend and I went, but luckily we were able to secure a seat. Finding parking might be an issue, but luckily downtown Davis has lots of parking options. It'll require a bit of walking but it shouldn't take very long. I was very fortunate to have found parking right in front of the shop. As for the drink, I ordered the Rose Latte and it tasted okay. There wasn't much taste to it unfortunately, just a very subtle hint of coffee. But I guess it is a latte after all. A local took us here for an afternoon pick me up and right when we walked in, I really liked the coziness and atmosphere of this shop. I like that they separated areas for casual sitters and people who are there to study/work. You are greeted by the smell of coffee and you can see delicious-looking pastries from the get-go. The menu has your typical espresso drinks, but I noticed they have a good variety of flavored lattes. I got the Mishka's latte, which is just a vanilla latte, but it seem to be popular. This is not your standard vanilla latte; the vanilla flavor is more pronounced, but not entirely artificial. Don't worry about being basic because it's worth trying. I was a big fan of the maple latte as well. It doesn't taste strongly of maple, but there's a smell and aftertaste. Service was curt but no big deal. This cafe is very cute and had a lot of seating available, both outdoors and indoors. It seems like a good place to work remotely or get some studying done! Their lattes have a good strong coffee flavor, not overpowered by the milk. The maple latte is sweet, but the maple flavor isn't too strong. I would also recommend getting their croissant sandwiches, especially if you ask for them warmed! The croissant is nice and flaky, and the sausage/egg or ham/cheese are both delicious options. Very filling and great to pair with coffee. The cinnamon roll was a bit dry, but having it warmed definitely helped as it slightly melted the frosting on top and softened the inner layers. read more

Each visit to Downtown, Mishka's is always busy. Today, we walked in just to see what it was all about. Entering the cafe, there is an unspoken understanding that it is a place to simultaneously study and unwind. The baristas are pleasant and the seating inside is ample, but set very close together. Nonetheless, the vibe is very chill. We ordered a hot medium roast coffee (large) just to get a feel for the place. Then we sat outside where there were more tables and chairs and a bench to absorb the atmosphere. Many conversations surround you, while enjoying your sips of coffee, but it is not overwhelming. The natural shade of the trees and occasional breeze makes for a pleasant experience. The coffee itself was okay, although it's nice to enjoy knowing the establishment prides itself in both social and environmental justice. I think I might try something else next time just to have another experience. read more

Great cozy coffee and tea shop locally own and run. A friend that lives near by walked me over here today to get a drink and chat. The interior has that unique personally that is comfortable, welcoming. Love that they have a ton of different tea options to pick from. I only drink iced teas and ice water. Most places have ice tea options of black, green, or white. This place has a whole menu of options for each type of tea. WAHOO! Got a butter croissant which was large, fresh, and as tasty as it should be. The music is jazz all today (my only visit so far). Fits the place perfectly. It plays so one can hear it, but from what I see in the room, no one has a problem also focusing on computer work as well or chat. It is pleasant but not overpowering. Seating inside is plenty for small tables and chairs or benches. Many tables outside in the front and side patio. Trees and umbrellas, even the building depending on the time of the day offer plenty of shade most of the time. read more
