I'm new in Davis and have tried almost all the coffee shops in town. Today I finally had Mishka's coffee and ordered Almond Milk Latte (my go to when trying something new). Happy to report that the latte did not disappoint. This will now be on my top 5 coffee shops in Davis. I would be remiss if I didn't explain my 4 star rating... Service was great, great coffee and tea selections, Indoor/ Outdoor seating definitely a plus, Good vibe. Despite all the great things, the one observation I had was the cleanliness, they could use a slight improvement. 1. Sanitize pump - didn't look so good and should at least be wiped 2. As a decaf drinker I appreciate a place that keeps decaf coffee chilled and ready to go for an iced coffee so you don't have to get an Americano that melts the ice too quickly. Probably my favorite coffee in davis. Super tasty and really cool vibe inside. Love their tumeric tea latte and rose latte! Expect a wait they're very busy but it's worth it - for this reason I think they definitely cater more towards people who have time to sit and hang out, not worry about how long it's going to take! On that note They also don't have carriers for larger to go orders so leaving here with 4 hot cups to bring home is quite a struggle - especially with how hard it is to find nearby parking The ability to order pay ahead here would be amazing for those of us on the run and people who are still covid conscious re standing in a crowded cafe! I've been here twice over the past couple of months, and both times had friendly, helpful baristas assist me in selecting my tea. I had a last minute change from an herbal tea to a young pu erh, and they were very flexible and said it was no problem. The teas I had both times were great. Loved this cafe!!! I was searching for a cafe that had matcha and stumbled across this one. My sister and I walked in and we were like, " wooow." It was beautiful. It felt like you were in a cool library, apothecary, coffee, tea world. The drinks were really yummy and the service was great! I was interested in some of the mugs and the employee went out of her way to answer questions, help me figure out the prices and to check inventory. Overall, awesome experience. read more

I've been meaning to try Mishka's since I've been in Davis, and I finally got to today! There's always so many people sitting outside, so you know it's always consistently good. I got an iced mocha with oat milk (my go to drink when trying a new place), and it wasn't too sweet and perfectly balanced. There's plenty of seating inside and outside, which is great. The WiFi didn't really work, which is a bummer. The food selection looked impressive so I will definitely have to try next time I come. REAL CAFE! I did not have much time here, but just fell head over heels in love. Felt like I was transported to Paris or somewhere in Eastern Europe, or Montreal, or the 1960's,....something like that. Something about the high ceiling and all these little wooden tables filled with serious students studying, and friends leaning in, having intimate talks...the news paper just laying around. Oh, and they were open at night. That's what got me too. Excellent Organic coffee. I got an in-house-made gluten free snickerdoodle cookie to-go, and did not have till the next day, long gone on the freeway. But I would turn around for other one. And Davis, you are not that easy to get to, but I will go back for this cafe. read more

For a study space, abysmal. The outlets and seating suggest that this is something of a coworking space, but I can't recommend that. The wifi is extraordinarily slow, the lighting is dim, and the clientele are noisy as all hell. Every time I come here it smells like burnt coffee beans and sounds as raucous as an Asian supermarket. Annoyances aside, I do appreciate their cozy interior. Plenty of seating (albeit crowded), ambient lighting, & just the friendliest workers who are more than happy to give suggestions! Tables are bussed frequently so there aren't dozens of coffee cups strewn everywhere despite the high traffic. I had a pretty standard latte here. Nothing especially groundbreaking. As someone who isn't a big fan of coffee, I really loved this place! The staff was so nice and helped me pick out a drink that I loved: the seasonal Tiramisu Iced Latte :) It wasn't on the menu but the wonderful staff said they could make it for me, and it was delicious! The cafe had a great cozy vibe, and the menu was just the right size. I didn't get any of their pastries but they looked delicious as well. My sister got the Jolted Thai, one of her go to's here. Wonderful little cafe! Such a Davis classic and has amazing coffee. The indoor environment is cozy but lively. You aren't supposed to use electronic devices inside but people do it anyways. So if you need a break from stuff, you can grab a book or grab a friend to hangout. They have a large variety of pastries, cookies, and other snacks. I carpooled with a friend to this quaint boho style Davis coffee house. Davis, the busy university town it is, was as crowded as ever and finding a parking parking spot took a while. Nonetheless after circling the block 3 times we got lucky and found a spot a couple blocks away. First off I'd like to start with a few positives: 1. The order line is pretty quick, 2. the baristas are quite pleasant, 3. And they serve only organically grown fair trade beans. Point number three was added for kicks and giggles since I really have no idea what benefit fairly traded beans have for a consumer like me. Needless to say, it sounded good to bring up in this review, so why the heck not. The decor at Mishka's is a mash up of Davis hipster meets new bohemian edgy artisan who doesn't study. I had found a cozy little table, flanked by a bench seat and two simple bistro chairs for my friends and I to sit and sip our delicious hot caffeinated elixir. I was astounded to discover the placards attached to the tops of each table with the following rules, "No Laptops, No School Work, and No Studying." Hmmmmmm. (Minus 1.5 stars.) Yes indeed... Stopped here for quick a coffee with a friend and was so happy with what I got. I ordered a Patagonian Latte with Oatmilk served hot because the Barista said getting it iced would negatively impact the flavor. I really appreciate that they ask what milk you'd prefer rather than just heading regular. The latte was on the specials menu meaning it may not always be there so If I were you I would go soon to try it because it was really delicious. It definitely had a more earthy aroma with hints of citrus. It paired so well with the Wheat-free Ginger Snap cookie which was surprisingly soft and not crumbly which is common with gluten free baked goods. If I lived in Davis, I know I would be here a lot. The students clearly feel the same way; almost every table and chair was full on a long weekend with busy, busy bees. I noticed the chairs weren't particularly comfortable and the space feels a tiny bit beat up, but that's certainly part of the charm. I loved reading all the great-sounding coffee options. It was so hard to pick what to get! I'm a sucker for lavender and excited when a place can use it well, and Mishka's definitely fits that bill. The lavender latte was nice and earthy without tasting like a big flower. I also got a lemon poppyseed muffin, and I was thankful to see that their muffins are of a snacking size. Love the tall ceilings and big windows. I can definitely see why the students work here. It feels like a long-time Davis establishment. read more

Came here to study for a bit last semester. Although it was busy, I was able to find seating indoors. There are plenty of outlets around the tables, which makes it ideal for charging your phone or laptop. Even with the busy crowd, it wasn't overly loud and I was able to focus with earphones in. I ordered an iced mocha. I forgot to mention that I'm lactose intolerant when I ordered, and the barista made my mocha with regular milk. When I apologized and told her I needed it remade with almond milk, she was very understanding and helpful. She said that it was no problem and made me another mocha free of charge. The service here is prompt and attentive. The baristas know their stuff. I appreciated the added touch of awesome customer service. Mishka's has a chill environment with good coffee, but I wouldn't come here to study just because it's so crowded in the study area. The tables are arranged in a grid, which puts you very close to all the other people studying. During the school year, it also gets super busy and is pretty hard to find a seat. However, I love the area next to the door that is reserved for "no laptops, no school work, and no studying". It's usually easy for me to find a seat there, and I think it's a great spot for reading a book or hanging out with a friend. You also only get 2 hours of wifi (need to ask for a username and passcode that comes with your purchase). Prices are pretty average for a hipster coffee shop (around $3-5 for a drink). I've tried their plain iced coffee and tea lattes, and both were very good. read more

A well-loved spot for gatherings or study sessions (4/5 green stars also). Mishka's has a nice atmosphere, lots of indoor and outdoor seating, and opens quite late (esp. by Davis standards). I had an Americano and a small piece of Earl Grey shortbread ($1). The Americano was made from medium roast beans (soured from Guatemala, Ethiopia, Peru, and one other place that I've forgotten because my brain was coffee-deprived when the information was communicated). Overall I liked the coffee - good flavor and not over-roasted. The shortbread was good too. A solid 4/5 for everything. I'm also giving Mishka's 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: * A sign in the store indicates that their coffee is fair trade and organic. Beans are roasted on site. * More info on their relationship with growers would be helpful - there's none to be found on their website or packaging. * Plenty of vegan pastries available and plant-based milks too. * Cold cups, hot cup lids, etc., are not compostable. * Would be nice if they didn't give lids on cups as default (i.e., like Peets) to save plastic. * Packaging for beans is not compostable. * They upgraded to LED lights to save energy - the California Lighting Technology Center at UCD calculated that they save over 10,000 kWh per year. * Provides a community gathering place and gets involved in community events. This place looked like a great place to study! It was packed with people either reading, writing or on their computers. My boyfriend and I ordered the iced caramel latte. It hit the spot! It didn't have too much of a caramel taste to it though, which I was hoping that there would be more of in our drinks. Definitely a smaller, more local coffee shop with a nice vibe to it. read more

Ambience 4/5 Starting with hot, there are sensitive places to try to find parking in this town however, most of it is two hour parking. I am reviewing in the standpoint of studying so this is not exactly ideal. However, as I need a location this would be great. The interior of the coffee shop is very unique and very individualized. The tables and decor were carried over from the old location and I have been told that Mishka is a staple in the Davis community. Plenty of seating. But it has to be made known that the seating near the door is strictly enforced to be sit and chat/enjoy food and drinks, no studying. The seating further in is open for studying and using your laptop. Several locations for outlets along the wall which makes it very nice. Drink 4/5 $5 got a lavender latte 16oz. Im not even sure if there was really espresso in it, but it tasted almost like lavender tea in soy milk. Pretty tasty but light on the caffeine I believe. The drinks come in either 8/10oz?, 16oz, or 20oz. The mid is a great between :). Overall 3.5-4/5 Tasty drinks (heads the teas are better) but not a great place to study for too long. Especially since for WiFi you have to purchase something, get a special code that gives you WiFi for two hours only. Might be back to try something in the future! read more
