They did an alright job on my nails. But my cheif complain is the disrespectful behavior. I felt so bad for the lady doing my toes. Other employees were walking by the chair I was in and throwing their trash in the bowl. Granted I was done with the bowl at this point, having my toes painted. But literally throwing garbage. Lollipops half eaten, used gloves from other patrons etc... this is disgusting for me and not ok to do at all! I've been to this place many times. I've spent a lot of money here. For the last year I've not gone because I was ill. Finally my daughter and I went for some pampering and to get out of heat. I'm not only disappointed, I'm angry. I feel like I just spent 136$ to get lousy service and lousy attitude. They wouldn't even wait for my pedicure to be finished before they asked me to pay. Wow...I was there to relax. I'm also disappointed in my nails. When I tried to let the girl know they were not matching lengths and I kept saying no to her upselling was when the attitude started. They were a big waste of time. As a widowed single mother, I finally had someone to watch the baby for a little pampering time before running some errands. They told me it would be a 30 minute wait. 55 minutes later I started to a walk out and they stopped me and promised it would be 5 more minutes. 15 minutes later I left without getting any of my coveted pampering. They wasted very precious time for me today. It's OK if a place is busy, but don't just keep saying things to keep someone there. An accurate wait time would have been nice. Had been to 2 other salons in the last 2 months and was very disappointed. Decided to try Star Nail at Trolley Center and I'm so glad I did. The technician, Sophie did an amazing job. I have been going to Star Nails for approx. 7 years ~ I have always gone to Cindy at this location; she makes appointments for me and does my nails, toes, eyebrows and eyelashes! A few weeks ago, I noticed some changes in the place....a little more open and cleaner! I found out New Owners came in and they have really taken this place above and beyond. One of the new Owner's greeted me as I walked in and checked with my gal to see where she wanted me. I was offered water while I waited for my gal to get done ( I was a little early). I truly like the personal approach at Star Nails. I have gone to other places and did not receive the same service. It is centrally located for East County for easy access. I must have got lucky looking at some of the reviews on here because my pedicure I got was awesome! She did try to upgrade me and I fell for it but it was worth it! I got the $30 service for my pedicure. There was a heel treatment and scrub and I left there walking on a cloud! I work in the same shopping center so I think I just found my new place! I live in AZ and came to San Diego for a family event at the nd of April 2016 that was also my birthday. Our motel was nearby and I stopped in for a facial wax and splurged on a new full set. They try to upsell for the wax and normally I'd just say "no thanks, just the brows and lips today..." But it was a mini-vacation and birthday, so what the hell! They did a great job. If you don't like being attempted at an up-sale, just be prepared to politely decline. They still do a great job. read more

I've come here twice to get a pedicure, the first time was amazing, honestly the best pedi I've ever had. We came first thing in the morning and it was empty, clean and had really good ventilation - great experience. The second time we came in the afternoon; it was packed, they had a really sad variety of colors there were five of us and they didn't make any attempt to seat us together. They tried to upsell every one of us and argued when we said no. Within a week every pedi was chipping or otherwise messed up. Some had chipped off by the day after the pedi. Terrible experience. I don't think I'll be coming back which is disappointing because after the first time I thought I had found my new pedi spot. read more

Never going there again. Wanted to move quickly to get people done, not taking the time to do a good job. Didn't put nails under a dryer or even offer too. The one exception is the lady who did my daughters nails was very sweet and caring. If I was to go back I would only ask for her. The rest of the staff had terrible customer service. read more

Spider webs all in the corners and when I asked the tech to cut my natural nails flush with my finger she said she would file down and I left with much longer nails then I wanted. Went here today for a pedicure and left very disappointed. At the start of the pedi the girl was nice, talking, smiling and happy. Then she handed me the paper and tells me to pick what service I want. i told her the basic pedicure was fine and she told me no, I needed the more expensive one. Why? She proceeded to argue with me insisting I needed the most expensive pedicure. I said please just give me a "basic" which did not set well with her. She started talking to the other workers in her language and they all laughed. She never said another word to me for the remainder of the time. I'm sure they thought I was cheap but why do they have to up-sell everything! Just give me what I am asking for. I've been a regular here for quite a while and I'm always happy with my mani/pedis. They are very friendly and have an amazing selection of polishes, and gels sometimes making the decision on color difficult to choose!. The salon is clean, has a pleasant decor and they are very conscientious about the customer needs. I've noticed a steady increase in clientele since I've been coming here so I know I'm not the only one happy with the service! I can highly recommend this salon! read more

My sister and I usually come here for pedicures and they do a nice job. Although this last time I came into star nails I got my nails done with gel. A lady said hello when I walked in, and then told me where to sit and wait for someone to do my nails. This man took my hand and started working. He didn't say two words to me. Then this other lady was next to him. And they were like trading off. I didn't understand what they were doing. When I left I did not like my nails at all, they were so bumpy. I had then redo one of them bc it was so bad. But they didn't even care, they just wanted to be done. It totally rushed, and they were not very polite.
