My husband and I made our way to Star today to run a couple errands. We were both starving so I suggested going to Star Country Cafe for Brunch. This joint has been on my to go list so today was the perfect day too try it out! It was about 1 when we made our way there and we were hoping that the breakfast/brunch rush had kind of slowed down. There was a table ahead of us. My husband and I decided to sit at the bar since therewere a couple spots open. We wanted to save the table for a family that needed more room. And we actually like sitting at the bar. We sat ourselves and kinda of waited for sone service. It was very busy still so it took a minute for someone to help us. No problem, my husband and I just chilled till someone got to us. We finally got coffee and juice started while we were looking over the menu. The gal that got my coffee was sweet. She got me fresh creamer and sweetner packets so I didn't have to use the communal packets. I appreciate how understanding she was about my requests and my want to protect my new kidney. The menu has a lot of options which was great! Everything sounded tasty since we were so hungry! My husband grabbed the 2 biscuits and gravy meal with 2 eggs. I got the Tomlet with some spinach added without the hashbrowns and toast. Our food came out fast and hot! It all looked so good. My omelet had hamburger, olives, onions, cheese, jalapenos and fresh spinach. It was just what I wanted! I added sour cream and salsa to that baby, it was so good! My husband's biscuits and gravy were massive! The best homemade biscuits and gravy we ever had came from a gas station in Athens, Ga. These biscuits and gravy were busy as good! They are the best we have had in town! The biscuits were fluffy and airy, not too dense. The gravy was savory and rich. I don't know what kind of sausage they used but it was really good! Sausage gravy is a 50/50 for us but this gravy was killer! Everything was so fantastic! We ate every bite of our food and didn't regret it one bit! I appreciate the small, hometown feel of this restaurant. Servers knowing their guests by their first names. The prices were reasonable. The coffee was hot and my cup was always filled. The food was killer good! Our service was great. This joint is a little further than our normal brunch joints but they are so worth the drive! I look foward to coming back and having another great meal! And having one of them massive cinnamon rolls will be a must as well! read more

Stopped in last weekend to bring a cinnamon roll home for my wife. I've done this several times in the past with no issues, meaning the cinnamon rolls are pretty damn good. This was one of the worst cinnamon rolls I've had. Pillsbury dill boy easily out did these by far... tasted like the cinnamon roll was a couple days old atleast. They really need to make sure these are fresh.. daily... I would have rather walked in and saw they were completely sold out, and walked out with nothing, then buy a couple day old cinnamon roll that tasted like shit. Really disappointing. read more

Star Cafe is a legend in Star. It is where locals grab their grub. It was recommended to us by people who live in town. We headed there for breakfast one weekday. It was crowded both in the parking lot and inside but we got a seat. There were counter stools and tables in two rooms. Our greeter, a young guy, got us seated and gave us menus. Our server Jessica B, came by. She has a beautiful smile. We ordered & in short order our food arrived. I asked for the small appetite "B" it came with one egg, bacon and 2 pieces French toast. The egg was good but the French toast was scrumptious. Cinnamon & powdered sugar sprinkled on, creamy butter and hot syrup served on the side in a squeeze bottle. The bacon was perfectly salty , slightly crisp and full of flavor. My perfect breakfast. A fellow diner had the haystack which was delicious and piled high with gravy , eggs, potatoes etc, a huge portion. Another patron had the Star skillet. It was very good. The eggs and cheese with potatoes and sausage were seasoned well and yummy. The potatoes are cubed big and pronounced in the dish. The scramble was served with toast. Service was overall good. Someone offered to help us get water then forgot about us. Not sure why they offered to get it for us and then not. Perhaps they thought we were their table then realized no. Oh well. They give you utensils in a paper sleeve so they are clean. Bathroom, however, could be cleaner. The wall decor in the restaurant is art by a local artist for purchase and knickknacks....down home cozy. Star's motto is "small town, big family" and this was written on their chalkboard. We came yesterday morning as a party of 6. We had about a 20 minute wait after checking in around 9:30am on a Saturday. Not bad! We all enjoyed our breakfast! Inside has a very cute, cozy, country diner design! Star in general has such a nostalgic small town front street feel, that this place emulates well! Service was more than exceptional! They almost came to our table a little too often, interrupting conversation a lot, but that's ok, it's an aspect that makes this place special. We love supporting our local Star businesses, this place is a real gem!! read more

I truly do love this place for its nostalgic, small town feel and friendly, personable service. That alone would give this place 10 stars! We were quickly seated in a booth but it's obvious the place runs on friendly and not exactly quick service. The wait staff promptly brought water and coffee but we had to wait a bit for service. We ordered a pancake short stack, Haystack and French toast. The Haystack half order is more than enough for 1 person (I dare to think what a full order looks like) but is incredibly wonderful - I ordered my egg over medium and the Lucious yolk poured over the biscuits with gravy, hashbrowns and sausage like a warm blanket. Every bite was amazing. Daughter purred at her French toast over its not-too-sweet but perfectly cooked texture and flavor. Downside is that the pancakes were rubbery and overcooked, a far cry from what we've experienced in the past and put quite a damper on my husband's mood. Rumor has it that this place has struggled to have consistent cooks which may have led to some inconsistency but overall I love this place. read more

I'm hesitant to post this because I went here 2-3 times prior and they were a nice family cafe. I'm sure in a lot of ways, they still are. However, my last experience was so disappointing and was enough to not waste my money again on such a poor experience. Me and my young family (husband and two kids under 5) entered the restaurant and were told to sit wherever we wanted, only 10-15 minutes later with our drinks on the table and kids occupied with crayons and coloring, to be told from across the room--to move to a different table in order to accommodate other guests. This wouldn't have bothered me so much if I wasn't given an attitude by the waitress afterwards and felt like she prioritized that table over ours. Everything went downhill from there. It felt like our business was a burden on the waitress. I think her name was Justine or Justice? Very rude, heavier set blonde girl. She took our order very late, I had to wait for the coffee creamer in order to drink my now cold cup of coffee because she seemingly refused to come to our table. When we received our food at the table, it was accompanied by the check..as if she just wanted us gone. I wasn't asked if I needed anything else and never got "Checked on" for coffee refills or condiments..almost as tho she was purposely dodging our table. When I would say "thank u" when my order was taken or given my food, it was responded with a very cold attitude, silence, and no hospitality. After feeling awkward and like she just didn't want us there, I finally got tired of waiting for her to acknowledgeable us. so I picked up my check and I took it to the front to cash out. After waiting at the front counter for maybe 5-7 min, I felt someone nudge my arm in passing..it was the rude waitress saying that my child left a toy at the table. There are some questionable social skills there, let alone professional skills. I love a good "hometown everyone knows eachother" feel, but she didn't have that. Afterwards she ran my check at the register, and it was a very awkward exchange as she was just very cold and rude. Overall, the food here is good, but the prices are a little high for it. And the staff is a hit or miss. Sadly won't be coming back. read more

My mom and dad have been telling us we had to try this place and we just figured out why. This place is absolutely perfect. It's got the old breakfast diner feel to the max inside, with great artwork and funny sayings everywhere. We had the pleasure of having Sheila take care of us. By the end of breakfast I wanted to tell her we should be best friends. She was fun, hilarious, and took beyond great care of us. The food was WONDERFUL. I had the corned beef hash and my husband had the haystack. Huge portions and it was all so fresh and tasted like it was made at home. Actually that's the best way to describe it, this place feels like home. I'm sorry it took us so long to get there but we will be regulars from here on out. We came back for our third time in less than a week, this time for lunch. Ashley was our server and she was excellent! My wife had the burger and I had the pastrami melt. Both were very good. Our fries and onion rings were piping hot. I would have preferred them well done, but they were still good. You can't go wrong here! My wife and I just moved to Star. We wanted to try a local restaurant so we came here for breakfast yesterday. Sheila was our server and she was absolutely wonderful! My wife had the Classic and I had the Veggie Omelette. They come with roasted potatoes and toast. The food was delicious. The coffee was pretty good, too. And the servings are ample and very reasonably priced. Sheila even gave us a hug as we were leaving. We liked it so much we came back today, Sunday. My wife had the same while I tried the meat lovers skillet. Again, delicious, though I personally am not a fan of the sausage gravy. Even on Saturday and Sunday, we were still able to get a table, though the restaurant was busy. my first time ever going to the Star, Country, Cafe was a great experience. I had biscuits and the gravy with sausage a couple pieces of bacon and a cinnamon roll. The food was great. Served hot. The spices were great. The gravy and the texture was all around. The biscuits were homemade. That was about 10 years ago. I love this place. I don't care what other people think or have nasty comments or anything like that. I don't think that they have ever had good home-cooked food like the Star, Country, Cafe. Another thing, the waitresses, the buses, the cooks the manager everyone that is in that place even the people have respect, loyalty and love for one another. I went there every single day for seven years straight. I was irregular. I no longer live in that area. I miss it every single day. I wish there was somebody else that made cinnamon rolls like they do.. Let me tell you if you have ever had a massive cinnamon roll enough for two people to eat, you gotta go here. The Star, Country, Cafe. I'm telling you it's worth the drive. Come on guys and gal!?., cinnamon are huge. If you have seen the white serving container that you usually take your food out with imagine that completely filled to the with one cinnamon roll, barely able to close the lid. Anyways, don't listen to other people. You only have to listen to me, but at least listen to me one time please try to make a trip out there and take that experience on your own hands and see what it's like being at a home town grandma's kitchen just like it was when you were just a kid. Homemade everything. . I'm not gonna lie. I miss my grandmother and I miss her cooking. This brings me back to being with her. Casey and the crew were amazing! We stopped in on a lil' roadtrip around the area. Our fam walked in this afternoon and sat at the countertop and we all had 5 meals that were delicious, hot, fresh and amazing! We started with the best biscuits and gravy! Gravy on point (hard to find these days), biscuits soft and delicious. I had pork chop breakfast with eggs and potatoes and toast, insanely delicious, well seasoned pork chops were the star! Other star was their fail special of beef tips in gravy over noodles with a side of corn and a roll. Brown gravy was delish with tender beef bites! Everyone was happy, the crew was insanely sweet, attentive and really went out of their way to make you feel welcomed and like a regular! Prices up, portions smaller, burnt toast, overdone eggs, sparse coffee refills, poor service. On the upside, friendly staff. We won't returning soon. I've defended the changes for too long now and I can't in clear conscience patronize a place as it dives into chaos and disarray. We used to go there everyday for breakfast spending about $40 per visit for two people. We used to go there because it was good. The quality of the food has absolutely gone downhill. One of the waitresses has left and the atmosphere and vibe is gone. The food has become mediocre at best. Half the time the order was incorrect and Casey would get it fixed, now the kitchen serves you what they think is okay. They used to be known for their biscuits and gravy, but now it's rock hard biscuits and the gravy very bland like what you would get out of package. The wait staff is atrocious and very RUDE. Bussers are at times looking like they just crawled out of bed and are in pajamas and slippers. The kitchen cook manager throws a fit when food is sent back and sometimes tells the waitress just serve it. You can hear a lot sitting at the counter. The corned beef. and hash is very very salty. The owners don't care and just are in it for themselves not the customers. Recently they have raised their prices. We have switched to a new breakfast lunch dinner place called Rare which is very nearby. read more

We came at a good time. It wasn't too busy, usually the parking lot is always full when we drive by. It's self seating and everyone, including other customers, were very welcoming.
