Good diner in Emmett. Food is good for breakfast. Haven't ate here for lunch. Inside is classic diner and definitely smells like a diner. Portions are huge so if you just want something light or normal sized then you might want to split something. Always a staple for breakfast. Can't go wrong with the pancakes here. read more

Stopped into Kate's for breakfast while our dog was seeing the wonderful Dr Dan at Emmett Animal Medical Center for a teeth cleaning. Kate's was fabulous. Clean and tidy with the cutest country decor, friendly smiles greeted us from 3 waitresses on the way to our table. We ordered a breakfast burrito with egg, bacon, potato and cheddar cheese as well as a bacon cheddar omelet with hash browns and rye toast. It came out piping hot, very quick, and with a 5 min check back by our lovely waitress with a cute nose piercing. Kudos to the chef, the waitresses and the owner of Kate's. My wife and I recently moved from CA to Star. We decided to take a drive up to Emmett today to see what the town is like. We chose Kate's Country Kitchen based on the reviews. It is located on Washington, a main drag that takes you into the old downtown center. Kate's is in a small strip mall, somewhat plain but homey on the outside. Once inside, it definitely has the country vibe going, kind of a farmhouse decor. Tables are the norm and there was overflow space that was not being used when we were there, which was about 1 pm on Friday. They close at 2 pm. It took a while for our server to get to us. Perhaps because it was an hour before closing, she (Cindy) seemed very busy. She was all business and got our drinks and took our order pretty quickly. Once our food was delivered, we didn't see her again until we were almost finished. Luckily, we didn't need a refill on our waters. My wife got the Classic hamburger and I got the Club Chicken Wrap. We both got the fries. My wife thought the hamburger was good, not great. I liked the wrap. The texture was good, with a crunch that i enjoyed. There was a mix of honey dijon mustard and Ranch dressing inside. The chicken was not as plentiful as I would like, but still good. The fries were really good, crispy and piping hot. I had their Ranch dressing to dip my fries, and it seemed to have some dill in it, and was very good. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Kate's. Don't know the next time we'll be in Emmett, but we would come back. read more

The food at Kate's is undeniably delicious--flavorful, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care. If you're just after a great meal, this place won't disappoint. HOWEVER, there are some MAJOR drawbacks that are hard to ignore. Every time I've left, I've smelled strongly of oil, which makes me wonder if the ventilation isn't great or if the cooking oil isn't changed as often as it should be. It's not just a faint scent--it lingers on your clothes and hair--- which can be pretty off-putting. Additionally, the customer service, in particular by the owner, lacks the warmth and professionalism you'd expect in a customer-facing role. Two separate encounters have confirmed that service should be handled by a lead or someone else besides her. If they could improve the air quality & customer experience, this place would be a standout. Until then, it's great food with some unfortunate trade-offs! :/ read more

Our first time here since moving to Emmett overall pretty good. Got right in but waited about 30ish minutes for our food but the waitresses kept apologizing it really wasn't a big deal. Pancakes excellent but the gravy on the biscuits and chicken fried steak we did not like at all, tasted like cream of mushroom soup which is not something I want in my country gravy. Potatoes were my favorite we will definitely be back to try some other stuff! read more

We came here after church and knew nothing about it. Very pleasant experience, from having a great server named Cheryl, to having very fresh food. After hearing some good reviews, we decided to try Kate's out Saturday. Pretty busy, but we only had to wait 5-8 minutes for a table. Could have been quicker if the single person ahead of us had used an open counter seat; there were several available. But instead, took a table for 4. Waitress could have offered the counter, too. But that's just me. Anyway, my better half ordered biscuits and gravy, I ordered cornedbeef hash, 2 eggs over medium, and sourdough toast. Boy, it was like we called ahead for our order. It came out really fast! Awesome. The wife said her breakfast was good. Mine not good at all. The red diced potatoes (nice touch) were warm at best. My over medium eggs were closer to over easy. (can't hack runny whites). A lot of cafes have an issue these days, understanding what toast is, as this one also has. Toast is supposed to be toasted! Not some heated dry bread with a hint of browning on edges. But, again, that's just my opinion. Now for the worst part. I have no idea what that so-called cornedbeef hash was, or what was in it. I could tell there was by sight a finely diced red meat that might have been the corned beef. What else was in it I have no idea or tasted anything like it before. Had a texture like they used some sort of under cooked rice, maybe? And it was sour and disgusting. Had the wife try a tiny bite, and she said it's OK. Then I tried adding salt, kepsup, and hot sauce. Still unedible. So I asked her to try another small bite, and she agreed, there must be something wrong with it." It's disgusting, don't eat it." Now I know 95% of restaurants basically serve that Hormel type canned cornedbeef hash, I usually seldom order it, but when I see them advertise "their famous homemade." I almost always want to give it a try. We had already drank a pot of coffee at home, so we just ordered water. TWICE. The waitresses were very nice, but I think there was some confusion going on as there seemed to be a lack of area assignment. It was a waitress that took our order, another brought our orders, a young busboy that cleared our plates while still seated. Yet No one asked if everything was OK, including the server who brought our check, which we also had to ask for. So we left with my plate containing what was left of the runny eggs, 50% of the cold potatoes, 1/2 slice of untoasted toast, 80% of that horrendous thing they called cornedbeef hash and went home to fix a sandwich. We'll probably give them another try someday, but it won't be cbh. And to that reviewer who didn't like being talked nice to, you can always go back to the west coast to get your insults. read more

Everything I've tried there has been very good. Homemade food using good ingredients (ie NO Canola oil) serves real butter not margarine etc. The ambience is country cafe. Staff is very very friendly. Really do appreciate the staff as they're amazing. read more

I had eaten at Kate's once before and found it good. Today I wanted to share the place with my family. What an embarrassment! The food was horible. Granted we did order to go, so even allowing for takeout adjustments it was terrible. The omelet was burnt! The order was ready, except for the fact they didn,t include the pancakes. So, the order sat on the counter getting cold while they made them. All the french fries were cold and burnt. The child burger looked and tasted like a McDonald's kid burger nothing on it or included with it. Meat and bread only! My kid would not eat it. Burnt fries and meat patty and bun. They do not ever want to go there again. My husbands pancakes came with no butter or syrup, very dry! I tried call the order in and there is no phone number on the site. We put our order together only to find out they had a different menu than the online menu, so phone calls and texts were necessary to actually get our order together for the new shorter menu. What a waste of money and time. We should have ordered from Tom's Cabin or Elements, and will next time read more
